I'm no oil painting myself. and I say that upfront, but Tim Kelly...well, he must have an outstanding personality, cos he looks like a nicely-tailored mole. God, can you imagine that face breathing wine fumes into yours as he snivels on about how welfare Mums have it too damned easy? (shudder)
Didn't look at the article you cite, but the bulk of violent crime in Chicago is taking place in really poor communities on the eastern edge of the south side and on the west side and is directly related to competition for the drug trade among certain capitalist organizations. Over the years, that's spread to some of the suburbs, which I won't name. This year, the south side community where I came up, which is mostly lower working class, has had exactly one homicide, related to a domestic dispute, despite being 93% black. Property crime tends to be indirectly related to the drug trade. People stealing things to support their own consumption.
Jesse Lee Peterson, and Fox 'News', are very clear, black live do not matter - at all.
Conservatives mostly live in an absolutist world where every thing that happens is filtered through their ideology. They see Obama as someone who has completely wrong ideas, everything he does is wrong, he hates America, and is trying to destroy America. They hate Obama. They are biased and bigoted and in any conflict between cops and blacks, they assume the black is wrong, is a criminal or baits the cop into shooting and killing him.
Unfortunately, there are people who call themselves liberals who are absolutists on the opposite extreme. They will jump to a conclusion that in a black vs cop conflict that the cop was wrong even before facts come out. The headline is enough. They also filter facts through their ideology. They are not liberals, but only the opposite of conservatives.
Real liberalism began in the 17th Century with the "Age of Reason". "The Age of Enlightenment or simply the Enlightenment or Age of Reason is an era from the 1620s to the 1780s in which cultural and intellectual forces in Western Europe emphasized reason, analysis, and individualism rather than traditional lines of authority." This from Wikipedia.
Just something to think about. We can all use a little introspection.
