If you're driving from Southern Ontario to the Canadian East Coast it's much nicer to go through New England on hwy #2. It's very winding and picturesque, and goes through all the small towns. I've been through there camping too. At Maine you can ferry over to the tip of Nova Scotia and drive up (past 'real_earl' at Peggy's Cove) to the other provinces (PEI, Nfld.) Very nice trip.
(More interesting, by far, than driving through Ontario and Quebec That's like crossing a wasteland, except for Quebec City.
