Happy Halloween, everybody. Tonight we've got some early works of Frank Zappa's that poke fun at a lot of classic horror tropes and characters. The music is mainly based on an ostinato rock vamp coupled with some sound effects that are commonly associated with horror films, like howling wolves and rattling chains. Taking the lead over the music is a spoken-word performance by Bob Guy, playing a ghoul named "Jeepers". In the lyrics, Jeepers reads a letter from Count Dracula thanking Jeepers for attending a party of his, to which Jeepers responds in "Letter from Jeepers". The lyrics, while intentionally cheesy and strange, are also comedic, much like many of Zappa's works throughout his career. The humorous wordplay paired with Guy's enthusiastic performance makes for a fun listen this Halloween.
