Betty Bowers introduces us to the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, the Christian Nationalists behind the anti-abortion laws.

From the video description:

To those of you unfamiliar with them, the National Association of Christian Lawmakers (NACL) writes conservative laws (usually against LGBTQ and abortion rights) and gives these draft bills to conservatives in legislatures. Many of these NACL drafts wind up becoming laws. NACL was instrumental in getting Roe v. Wade overturned. It would write laws that it knew were unconstitutional (for violating Roe) to goad SCOTUS into accepting review on appeal, thereby giving the Court opportunities to overturn Roe. This strategy, of course, wound up working. But in spite of NACL’s significance, I don’t think many Americans even know about them. So we decided to do this video to help unveil them.

In the video, Devon Green, who plays Betty Bowers, points out that NACL is like the Christian Nationalist version of ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), writing bills for state legislatures to pass verbatim, which in turn allowed the states to sue and have Roe Vs Wade overturned. They are also working to undermine the separation of church and state, so that their right to dictate what people can and cannot do takes precedence over the person's own autonomy.

She also points out one of the things that make ALEC and NACL so successful is their ability to fly under most people's radar. If people are unaware of them, they can't be held to account for their misdeeds. They have members in the state legislatures of more than 30 states.

Once you're made aware of them, however, it's easy to pick them out and start putting their feet to the fire. Remember, like the roaches that they are, they don't like the light or the heat.
