It is with great sadness that we extend our condolences to the family and friends of Lynn Allen, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer. Lynn was a member of the North West Progressive Advocates and a giant in the Northwest blogging community.
Words that come to mind when I think of Lynn include considerate, compassionate, caring, helpful, hospitable, unselfish, and trustworthy.
Lynn represented the best of us. She was passionate about improving the human condition, as we all are. Particularly late in her life, she chose to focus on outreach to rural communities, and spent many long hours on the road driving between farms and gathering places in Eastern Washington.
She was deeply interested in helping netroots activists learn offline organizing techniques, and helping veteran grassroots activists master new technologies. Building stronger ties between the grassroots and the netroots was a favorite topic that we touched on in our many conversations.
So we dedicate this open thread to the memory and spirit of Lynn Allen and we ask that in her honor, you make some small gesture towards improving the human condition. To that end, may we suggest standing up for American workers at one of the solidarity events held this weekend in all 50 states through MoveOn or USuncut?

Planned Parenthood story and who called women who have unplanned pregnancies weak-minded:
Ugh. Absolutely disgusting and despicable. People like you do everything in their power to STOP women from preventing their pregnancies, and then people like you turn around and call these poor women "weak minded" and blame them for YOUR treachery. I mean hello, what the fuck, Planned Parenthood gives women access to contraception so that they never get pregnant to begin with! And your asshats in Congress want to defund Planned Parenthood so that women will have even less chance of not getting pregnant and the likely probability that they will have many more abortions!
Seriously, the sanctimony is nauseating, enough already. No one here believes you give a shit about living, breathing babies at all. The misogyny though is breathtaking.

and the Libyans want to get rid of Gaddafi too so they're protesting, but he is literally threatening the slaughter of his people so he can stay in power. The Thais and Cambodians are fighting over a sacred temple, I think, and ironically they've destroyed parts of the temple with the shooting. The Wisconsin folks are protesting their governor's attempt to abolish their rights to collective bargaining with their unions.

Here's the best recounting I've seen of the "social network revolution" that is sweeping the Middle East. Careful planning on Facebook and Twitter brought out the crowds, coordinated events. And when the governments of Tunisia and then Egypt shut down cellular service and the internet for the people, international hack-tivists named Anonymous shut down the websites of the governments of Tunisia and Egypt, which then relented and re-opened the net and cell phone service. There were endless heroics on the streets of course but without the social networking tools of Facebook and Twitter, and the hack-tivist work of Anonymous, none of the uprisings would have happened.

Iluminati. The only mention I know of in history traces it back to Adam Weishaupt and the story line is that it was disbanded.
The general consensus of opinion is that it is still alive and is THE ruling power over the world. So whatever evil is going on, plots against the people, things like that, it is blamed on the Illuminati. It is a handy handle that everyone uses. And it is sufficient for today's work.
It is difficult for me to believe that suddenly out of nowhere up pops this small group of German plotters who somehow manage to obtain enormous, even controlling, power over the world. After being discovered and disbanded.
I think that this Illuminati is a manifestation of a hidden, darker, power. This is the self-identity they use now. The name changes to fit the zeitgeist, I suppose. The force, the Dark Force that created the group of plotters, was already in existence for decades, perhaps millenia, before those days in Germany.
I have been convinced for a number of years that the top of the Illuminati pyramid is off world. In other writings at other times I have made what I think is a good case for that. An historical overview that covers all of recorded history reveals that there has always been a struggle for power, and the struggle is basically between the good guys and the bad guys. Good guys have been losing.
Earth is contested territory. The off-worlders desire to have total control of this planet and its resources. Its people are part of its resources. World control is described as a New World Order and we all know who are the major players in that game; CFR, Bilderbergers, etc. They are not the top of the pyramid, though. They are the ones who are tasked with the job of executing orders from higher up.
Peel away all the distractions of factions and politics and race and other things that unite and divide and define people and you will see that the drama being played out here is Star Wars, writ large.
It is a struggle between the Forces of Light and the Forces of Darkness.
Expressed another way, it is a struggle between STO vs. STS. Service to Others as opposed to Service to Self.
STS would be guys like Cheney and Bush, and organizations such as the CFR and Bilderbergers, to name only two.
The STS group would love to have us all self-identify with distracting labels of race, region, ethnicity, political ideologies, religion and other organizations or belief systems that compete for our allegiance.
The way to sort them out is to determine which side of that equation does this or that group belong? Ask yourself whether a political or social or religious group is STS or STO? That should not be difficult. Once you know that a person or a group or an idea is STS, then the thing to do is walk away from it and look for the STO person or group or idea.
We are living in a Star Wars drama. If you feel that you have a bit of Luke Skywalker in you and want to do something for the cause, write to me and I'll get you started. Or think of some way on your own.

investigate Police brutality at the G20. One guy, in his 50s with a prosthetic leg got dragged all over hell for not getting up off the ground at a moment's notice, and one of the asshole cops pulled his leg off and he got arrested. He ended up being in a wheelchair because his leg went missing. A paralysed guy got arrested for just going from point A to point B in his motorised wheelchair.
They injured people badly and made no move to get them medical help.
They arrested about 200 who were just out, not demonstrating and got corralled in a gauntlet.
People got the shit beat out of them for just being there. The cops big problem--they lied like rugs about it and there's so much video on it from cell phones and flipcams, their being shown as big fucking overreacting liars.

and it just gets worse. The cops went around certain parts of Toronto, and lines of them would go down streets, nowhere near the G20, pushing people into groups. What would happen, is they would meet up w/ other lines of cops that had done the same on other streets that met in their intersection, and arrest all people.
They were arresting people on a breach of peace, which allows them to hold people they think will cause a problem for 24 hours whether charges are laid or not. They strip searched the women, didn't feed people or give them water, used tear gas and rubber bullets on people who protested the detentions.
Officers removed their identity tags. Overcrowded cells. Told them they had no rights, they were under marshal law.
One guy, whose arm they broke and shoulder they dislocated and had cuffed behind his back for hours had charges laid (he was just walking by) obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest. The one legged guy got only his leg and driver's license back. He was told to take a bus home. "Where's my wallet? Where's my glasses. Where's my walking sticks?" "The driver should let you on the bus for free" "Where's my glasses? I can't see the bus." The dick relented and got him a cruiser to take him home. This was after over 24 hours detention.

these people are damaged forever. The guy with the broken arm will only get about 80% range back. He WAS a waiter. The one-legged guy is still unable to work. He can't see a cop without getting sick to his stomach, wondering if it's one of the creeps that laid a beating on him.

the vandals were 3 blocks away. Reporters were telling the cops and showing them playbacks of what was going on, but the Seattle cops wanted to shoot fish in a barrel. They blew off the reporters who were reporting crimes in progress and they tear gassed and pepper sprayed the peaceful sit down protesters. They instigated the riots in Seattle, and G20 looks the same to me. Same tactics. You have your fake free speech zones, your fake anarchists, your jacked up cops all pumped up because they're in riot drag and the pep talks they've been getting for month leading up to the event, and the peaceful protesters, residents, workers and lookie loos are the scapegoats and targets for the cops, for the big arrest numbers.

The vast majority of the officers did behave responsibly. Some did not. That could easily have be said of the protesters as well. Should the police have just left those who wished to engage in vandalism and riot free reign? Obviously not. The officers who stepped over the line are being called to account by public pressure and that is as it should be. The main problems were the result of poor command decisions and individual officers. The biggest problems were because they failed to follow their own guidelines. If you think it appropriate to damn the entire force go to it. If you think all police officers are stormtroopers go tell it to the police officers in Wisconsin who are supporting the union movement there. Maybe you think they're like coal miners, noble hard working men when they die underground and evil reactionaries when outsiders want to shut down their coal mine and they object. What's the memo say this week? Everything is so simple for you isn't it?
Hasa Diga Eebowai
Did you see the vast majority? Or is that just an assumption that we are required to make of police officers?
I'm thinking that a "responsible" police officer has an obligation to arrest those he sees assaulting people. Did any of these "responsible" police officers arrest any of the thugs?

Not to mention it's very apparent the orders for their behaviour came from ABOVE.
"If you think it appropriate to damn the entire force go to it." I'll happily condemn Toronto cops. Ezpz. This didn't happen because of a few bad cops and it didn't happen on it's own, in isolation. The good cops are as guilty as the bad cops and also deserve to be punished: they can't just turn a blind eye to other cops breaking the law. Their job is to uphold the law, not make it up as they go along. The police violence was probably planned out for weeks in advance!! To sum up-- fuck Toronto cops.

Many many police misbehaved. GROUPS of police, mobs, gangs of cops terrorised people that were doing nothing. They beat them, told them they had no rights and made concentration camp jokes at them. Strip searched women 20 hours after their arrest. They went after peaceful protesters because some vandals had caused a ruck. Same thing happened in Seattle's WTO. The fake anarchists were kicking it over on 2nd and 3rd avenues, so the cops went up to 6th avenue and started beating on the sitting down people. In both places, downtown residents and people who worked in town were arrested for being there. In both places cops covered up their identities.
