Well, this probably won't help dispel the conspiracy theories.
If the Bush administration wanted to fuel conspiracy theories about its classified plan for maintaining governmental control in the wake of an apocalyptic terror attack, it could not have come up with a better strategy than refusing to let Congressman Peter DeFazio examine it.
The Oregon Democrat recently requested permission to enter a secure "bubbleroom" in the Capitol and examine the secret White House plan. As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, DeFazio has the requisite security clearance - and a compelling rationale for reviewing the documents.
Last Wednesday, DeFazio received word that his request had been denied. Through Homeland Security Committee staffers, he learned the White House had initially granted his request, but that it later was rejected. There was no explanation of why - and no word about who made the final decision.
There is no more certain way to feed conspiracy theorists than this kind of secrecy. As DeFazio put it: "Maybe the people who think there's a conspiracy out there are right."

As DeFazio put it: “Maybe the people who think there’s a conspiracy out there are right.”
Gee...ya think.
Oh...and FRIST. ;)
There will be no 2008 lelections. Mark my words...

We might be right about impending Martial Law too?
Hey, how about we get on this, Congress? If you have the clearance and compelling reason, then yell and shout about this. They play for keeps and so should we. We've got the advantage because the LAW is on our side.
This was outrageous. Does anybody know what further action Rep. DeFazio is going to take?

Sit back and watch like the spectators we are.
I dont understand. The democrats took over the senate and the house. How can the administration do all they want. Bush comes out with new laws everyday. The democrats are not undoing alot of the damage the repubs did. What the hell is it going to take to get the democrats to stand up to the president.
How bout show some guts and and get Harriet Myers and show they have some strength. They still let NET NEUTRALITY go by. Why havent they undone that huge media merger with the FCC back when Colon Powell's kid was running the FCC. Why hasnt the democrats undone any of this? I thought when they took over alot of these BS's laws would be changed back. Right now to me it seems democrats are not doing much more then the republicans.

Possible scenario; major American city is attacked, possibly by suicide bombers or worse. Executive Branch disbands Congress and sends what's left of the national guard into the streets. All elections are postponed, president sites 'Executive Authority' to arrerst whomever he chooses. Protesters are rounded up and jailed and a complicit national media gives him all the cover he wants.

Where is the link for THAT?!?!
I was just on an open thread over at DKos and someone brought up some scary shit. I was already anticipating no elections next year with all that is going on, but with an upcoming "recess" of Congress, Gonzales resigns to show the White House is getting behind changes in the admin (again), then there is an attack while Congress is on recess so there is an emergency appointment of someone new to AG.

From the looks of it, many of you are starting to come to the same realization to which I did about two-and-a-half years ago.
Why would they collect so MUCH power just to hand them to a Dem?
If there is a power grab, we should all have a national strike. If no one goes to work, or few people anyway, the economy will come to a halt, and they get no $$$. The people are the power, and we need to remember it if things go bad and Un-American. You have to wonder if there is a standing order in the secret-service to stop any would-be power grab. I guess that is all we can hope for at this point.
DEAR CROOKS AND LIARS.COM, This story is a week old and has been noted here as well as many other blogs. Do a damn follow-up, do something, just don't repeat the same thing in a different way. Quit slipping, you guys.

What's the problem. George Bush rehashes all his old material ever day. Let's see..."we gotta fight em there so we don't have to fight em here", "the Iranians are funding the insurgency", "they hate us for our freedoms", "--insert Middle East Country we want to overthrow here-- have nuclear weapons", etc etc.
It's not a conspiracy when every action Bushco takes is layered in secrecy. We are not paranoid when this organization's every action has been governed over their own personal book of laws. We are beyond impeachment time. Anyone see Bruce Fein on Bill Moyer's show? He put it so eloquently on impeachment - the best I've seen to date - I'm paraphrasing... 'Don't mistake the medicine for the disease. People think that impeachment means there's a constitutional crisis.. In reality it's quite the opposite. Impeachment is the ANTIDOTE to a Constitutional crisis!' If we do not act now, we set a ridiculously dangerous precedent that DOES NOT GO AWAY if Bush leaves office. But even worse - before we get to "election" time again, Bush is ALREADY ENABLED to enact Martial Law on us all. Given history's penchant for dictators to hang onto power without relinquishing, what is to stop him from carrying this out? Congress? Ha!
Rainbowdonkey @ 29:
Because they've all become fabulously wealthy in what will be 8 years. Then it cycles back to dems for a while. THe dems screw up per usual and the neocons get to make themselves richer again. Last time was with reagan. They got away with a lot. This time they went farther. Next time will be worse. I'm not buying into the no 2008 elections thing. I seriously doubt that will happen.

I'm just hoping that there are enough top generals in the Pentagon pissed off over Iraq that some of them attempt a coup if Bush tries to dispatch whatever is left of the domestic military. I'd rather be stuck with a random general as President, instead of Bush-for-life.

I knew it would come to this, I just didn't think it would happen now. I figured it would happen as part of a national "emergency".
All bets are off. This government is NOT leaving next year. They simply aren't. Whether or not GWB is President is irrelevant. Remember, the Soviet Union's President's were all "elected" and all had direct ties to the KGB. You can have ALLL the elections you want, doesn't mean they were honest or accurate. The sheeple will accept any result, so long as it's spun right.

If any of this comes to pass, we will know who the true patriots are. To think something of this magnitude couldn't happen in the USA is naive at best and ingnorant in the extreme, the reason the Constitution says what it says is because in a period of lucidity many intelligent men thought together and came up with a system of unparalleled balance. One that if the tools provided by by the constitution are used in the manner in which they were intended, you don't have one guy making all the decisions. ANY one guy. We are about to go the way of Rome, history does repeat itself. If true Patriots don't do something now we are about to become that which our founding fathers worked so hard to avoid.
Bush is right, history will decide how to view his Presidency, but remember history is written by the victorious.
I think the smaller percentage of people who agree with the Bush Administration are hoping their loyalty will give them a place in the new regime.
Ignorant was intentionally misspelled for irony.
I don't think it was inside in the context that the administration planned it and executed it. But I definitely think they knew it was coming and didn't stop it. Why else wouldn't they have immediately shuffled Bush away from the school to a safe undisclosed location when the country was under attack if they didn't already know where the planes were going and that no other attacks were planned?

A Democrat will be elected President
Congress will gain a small Democratic boost

I loathe the Shrub administration as much as the next sane guy, but what does CheneyBush hope to accomplish by imposing martial law, beyond the obvious desire to stay in power? Martial law might be good for some companies like Blackwater or Wackenslut, but many industries would be severely impacted by this action. In fact, it would probably wreak havoc on the national economy. Corporate America wouldn't stand for that, would they?
Sorry, but I'm just trying to understand their motivations.
If Bush does this and gets away with it, we WILL see a civil war again in un-USA
I fear the slow crawl to understanding I see and read in the news and hear on the radio. So many people have bought the "conspiracy theory" propaganda we are being fed that most Americans, including pundits and reporters, do not see what has been bothering many of us for years now. Why is it that intelligent people do not see the maneuvers of this Bush regime for what it is, illegal and aimed at dismantling our system of laws. So many folks with their heads up their a$$es or in a hole,,,,I am near to pulling out the hair from my balding head. All you pundits are so damn smart yet you cannot see the writing on the wall or are too afraid to call it what it is. Pray this regime does not get the opportunity they are attempting to create and pray that we Americans can rise and retake this country. These fellas are no good and do not care about you and me. Impeachment is necessary to say to every no-good thug who comes along "You will not do this to this country!!! We do not stand for this!!!" If Paris Hilton has to serve time for repeated DUIs Bush and his friends should be held to the same high standard of law. You are not president so you can be king or a dictator, that is never the intent of the executive branch!
They didn't cancel elections during World War II or the Civil War. How would they justify doing it now? Not saying it couldn't happen -- just saying it would be tougher to sell than the invasion of a third-world country, which is pretty much SOP for the U.S.
Congress has to start criminal hearings.
That is the only way.
It cant get to the supreme Court. We know what will happen...
Which reminds me... Any Administration that is under investigation for treason
(outing a CIA agent) Should NEVER get to appoint Supreme Court Justices.
But Impeaching a Supreme Court Justice can be done.
Congress tried to impeach a sitting Justice, Samuel Chase. This impeachment was one piece of the power struggle between the Jeffersonians and the --> Federalists after the election of 1800.

OK, and we can stop with the impeachment nonsense too. Bush creates laws on the fly that are necessary to protect our country from dirty, evil terrorist scum. He hasn't done it yet, but sometime this week or next he will create an executive order that says he can't be impeached.
Congress will obviously grow the nuts they're lacking, stand up to him, stare him straight in the eye and say, "OK."

Sorry ej doyle, I do not accept that. Dems are for the people, Republicans are not. That's why on rights, the Supreme court is split. That is why congress is split, and that is why the senate is evenly divided on most issues. If Dems were the same as the Repugs, we would have no rights at all. Zero. Zip.
True, there is something about the keeping the status quo, but them being the same is a nice right wing talking point.
Star-Wars-esque perhaps, but the idea didn't originate from Lucas. He just took a few pages from the history books of real coups. Do I think it will happen? Can't say for 100%. Do I think it could happen? Absolutely.
As far as "easier said than done", that is true. But it is meaningless. Every coup in human history was easier said than done. Hell, everything you do in your life is easier said than done. That doesn't stop things from getting done. It's not like these people decided last year to try anything. These people have been planning and implementing this for decades.
I can appreciate the rage of folks like Jack Damage and others.
There are times that I can barely contain my rage also. Day after day I watch in utter amazement as this Administration makes a mockery of our laws, makes a mockery of our Constitution and makes a mockery of our great country.
And the real irony of it is that I know for myself that I can't express my true feelings at times, because I feel that we can no longer define "where the line is drawn" in terms of our capacity for free speech. There are days I wonder if this is the day that my door gets broken in. We already know that we're being monitored. We already know that our phones are tapped. To the folks that say the corporations wouldnt allow bushco to declare martial law because it will screw up their earnings,, the dollar is a fiat dollar,,it is not backed by gold,, the dollar is worthless now, the only reason that its held its value as long as it has is because OPEC has demanded that member nations only accept the U.S. dollar as payment for oil,, so in other words, china has to purchase U.S. dollars to then buy oil.
Saddam had started accepting the euro as payment,, thats why we went in,, we couldnt allow people to buy oil with anything but the dollar. thats why the first thing we did when we toppled saddam was to revert back to dollar only oil purchases. hmmn,, now iran is talking of accepting the euro and yen for oil,, last i heard, we had to spread democracy there also,,lol.
now,, venezuela has a huge (larger than iraq) reserve of oil,, bushco has already backed a failed coup attempt of a democratically elected official there, we dont have the military to wage a war on iraq ,iran, and venezuela simultaneously, and still keep our bases in every other nation manned.
the dollar is about to fail,, the corporations dont care,, they want to be able to use us as cheap labor so they can continue to get rich on the euro.

Don't listen to the talking heads like that bald headed bastard, Larry Kudlow. The market fell yesterday and has been trending downward because U.S. interest rates are TOO LOW. The quoted inflation rate is a bald faced lie, because it does not include energy or food prices. Inflation is RISING, and to combat it...the Fed MUST raise rates. Also, the dollar is collapsing because rates are too low, and it is tough to find buyers for our debt at these rates. AND we keep trashing the dollar more and more because we keep needing to raise the debt ceiling, floating more dollars, which are then worth LESS.
The shell game is collapsing...THAT is why we need war. We can no longer feed the military industrial complex while at peace, nor can the oil companies justify madly increasing fuel prices without ADMITTING that the Hubble Curve is fact, global warming is a FACT...so...we create wars to steal oil and use the unrest to justify shortages and price increases.
What industry did the Bush family make it's millions in?? Hmmm. Just askin'.

Combined with all of the other instances of Bushco's penchant for secrecy, the many actual instances of wrongdoing by this administaration, Bush's repeated on the record statements joking(?) about him being a dictator, and his shady family history, is it really so conspiratorial to even consider the worst case scenario as to what Bushco is up to? The Whitehouse Coup
Monday 23 July 2007
The coup was aimed at toppling President Franklin D Roosevelt with the help of half-a-million war veterans. The plotters, who were alleged to involve some of the most famous families in America, (owners of Heinz, Birds Eye, Goodtea, Maxwell Hse & George Bush’s Grandfather, Prescott) believed that their country should adopt the policies of Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression.

The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive
(National Security Presidential Directive NSPD-51/Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD-20), signed by United States President George W. Bush on May 4, 2007, is a Presidential Directive which specifies the procedures for continuity of the federal government in the event of a "catastrophic emergency." Such an emergency is construed as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions."
The unclassified portion of the directive was posted on the White House website on May 9, 2007, without any further announcement or press briefings [4], although Special Assistant to George W. Bush Gordon Johndroe answered several questions on the matter when asked about it by members of the press in early June 2007.[5]
The directive specifies that, following such an emergency, an "Enduring Constitutional Government," comprising "a cooperative effort among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Federal Government," coordinated by the President of the United States, will take the place of the nation's regular government, presumably without the oversight of Congress[1]. Conservative activist Jerome Corsi and Marjorie Cohn of the National Lawyers Guild have interpreted this as a break from Constitutional law in that the three branches of government are equal, with no single branch coordinating the others.[2][3]
The directive further stipulates that, in the case of such an emergency, the new position of "National Continuity Coordinator" would be filled by the assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism (this position is currently held by Frances Townsend). The directive also specifies that a "Continuity Policy Coordination Committee," to be chaired by a senior director of the Homeland Security Council staff, and selected by the National Continuity Coordinator, shall be "the main day-to-day forum for such policy coordination."
The signing of this Directive was generally not covered by the mainstream U.S. media or discussed by the U.S. Congress. While similar executive security directives have been issued by previous presidents, they have been kept secret; this is the first to be made public. It is unclear how the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive will reconcile with the National Emergencies Act, a U.S. federal law passed in 1976, which gives Congress oversight over presidential emergency powers during such emergencies. The National Emergencies Act is not mentioned in the text of the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive.

The reason the administration can still do all they want, and the reason that the democrats are currently helpless to perform the degree of oversight and correction of backass legislation, is because many of the procedural votes (cloture votes and the like) that would bring measures such as Inherent Contempt of Harriet Meyers and the like require a 2/3 majority vote in Congress. Much of the general public simply doesn't understand this. Unfortunately, this is the primary reason why the general public is almost as dissatisfied with the Democrats in Congress as they are with the Republicans. Come on, take a government class people!! If you really want a change in the way government is functioning, then you need to increase the Democratic majority in the next election (if there is one...), because these Rethugs will certainly continue this stonewalling until their voted out of office.

Not that I don't believe Bush is capable of shit like that but there's plenty of real stuff to hate about the current situation in the US without tin foil hattery.
Liberal AND Proud @ 82:
Oil and now guns.
Your question is one that everyone needs to be reminded of.
With the Bush Crime Family's ties to the Carlyle Group, they are making millions off the war.
Add that to the reduction in the estate tax, and Chimpy is going to make his money the old fashioned blue blood way, he's going to inherit it.
The conspiracies stop being theories when they are put into play. Then they become nightmarish realities.
Paul @ 94:
Like the theory of George Bush's presidency becoming a nightmarish reality.
justabill @ 83:
That's the same Prescott Bush who supported the Nazis. Surprised?
This correct and there is a lot more that BBC did not report. I found this out myself back in 2004.
"The door of the Ark is closing." A lot of you dismissed the "conspiracy theorist". We would not lie to you. We only warned you.
For you that do not have firearms, ammunition, water, food, gear. ect. and still think that the government loves you and the a booggy man in a cave orchestrated 9/11, and for those who did question all the coincidences about war games on 9/11.... and all that has happend since then spying, torture, Violation of posse comitatus, and the death of Heabus Corpus ect.
God help you.
The plan probably calls for martial law throughout the country, the abolishment of the Constitution, Congress and the Supreme Court and the establishment of a hereditary, absolute monarchy.
Seeing how great they were at planning for natural disasters like Katrina, and they're lack of planning for 9/11, I'd say that there is no conspiracy, because there is no plan!

THANK YOU!!!
If you look at all the questionable behavior, broken international treaties that had been in place for years and the outright disregard for the rule of law by the Bush Administration over the years with NOTHING being done about it, something has to be very wrong! What is going on on? Cheney/Bush would have been impeached a long time ago if the United States had not been changed into Bizarro Land. And why was Halliburton contracted to build all them detention camps across the country?
As Thomas Pynchon wrote in his book Gravity's Rainbow, "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you're not being followed."
It's not a conspiracy theory. It's a conspiracy fact. There is nothing to be afraid of when calling a conspiracy what it is, a group of people plotting together in secret to break the law. The Iraq war certainly is a conspiracy, so is the NSA wiretapping, etc... Who knows how many more there are out there. So, let's not fall for the old "ridiculing the tinfoil hats" routine; let's call it what it is, and be proud of it.
Mmm...beer...(drool).
Up until 6 months ago, if someone had said that I would have said that that was 'a bit much'.
Now I would be pleasantly surprised if there were elections in 2008.
I can hear it now 'An election would embolden our enemies.'
"Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories concerning the attacks of September the 11th"
-gwb
we wouldn't want to disobey Der Fuehrer now would we?
CafeenMan @ 37:
I was just saying something similar to my friends:
I finally figured out how we are going to get back all (most? some? any?) rights we lost during this admin.
Assuming the Repug's don't pull a false flag operation, cancel the elections and declare Chimpy king, the Democrats will win most everything and have all those lovely powers Georgie usurped. This will drive the Repug's nuts, so to counter they will get all libertarian on their asses, accuse the D's of violating the Constitution, become the "Party of Liberty" and get re-elected again to the WH (all while obstructing any progress by D's and claiming they're a Tax & Spend (TM) do-nothing Congress).
It's the Rovian way!
Now after proofreading the above, I realize I am wrong. We will be lucky to get any rights back. I still think the R's will do exactly as I say. However, like they always do, it will be all for show with wonderful Orwellian named bills that accomplish nothing but convince the sheep that the R's are looking out for our freedoms that the horrible D's want to take away. Then once back in the WH they will have all their powers as Smirk left them.
Again,
It's the Rovian way!
Conspiracy Theorists:
1. I do NOT think 9/11 was an inside job. I was devastated by the Loose Change video for a couple of weeks until I found this site www.internetdetectives.biz/case/loose-change . Thank God because Lord knows I do not need another reason, especially one as grave as this, to hate this repugnant administration.
2. I DO think this government is up to something. That "September the 11th changed everything" montra is loosing that new car smell, the religeous right are loosing that umpth they had after the Clinton impeachment, and now that the people are no longer taking these two Neocon baits they're not going to just fade into the sun set when there's much war to be had,
oilcountries to beconquereddemocratized, and money to be made.Joemomentum..This is the most fascist our coutry has ever been. Notice the leaders that are criticized in South America actually do something for their people with natural resources. Our idea of good govt. is a cruel dictator who will allow his country to be raped and pillaged by corporations. Like say, US. Very surprised John Edwards called Hugo Chavez an evil dictator when he received overwhelming voter support. Our pres. stole 2 elections. In a poll of happiness all over the world. WE were like 156...Cuba was happiest ..Castro is training doctors to go all over South America..even wanted to volunteer some for New Orleans. Bush wouldn't allow that.
Yes it will be just like that, in fact, it will happen before Sept. then the second civil war begins. Its going to happen can you smell it? Don't rush now to do anything thats agaisnt the law, but once the constitution has been destroyed, we as American have the right... no, the duty to take back the gov't.
BEHOLD A PALE HORSE

Rainbowdonkey @ 73:
If you don't understand that metaphor you may not understand what is really going on in our world...the similarity of intent and purpose in the enforced two-party system under which we live.
It is not about Democrats and Republicans, there is little difference in their greed, only their style of the transfer of wealth. It matters not what party is in power. We are a nation of sheep, scared of everything now from a grander agenda whose intent is to take our country into a 3rd world level of desparation and lack.
For decades we have been telling people about the Hidden Hand behind our government.
"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men’s views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."
Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom (1913)
You really need to rise above the useless political debates and see what is really going as more important:
Loss of habeus corpus and 7 other Bill of Rights amendments, the North American Union being formed, Executive Orders being illegally mandated by Bush, No-Knock home invasions, The Patriot Act, Chemtrails poisoning us (and the only Demo speaking up against it is Kucinich) and the only presidential candidate on our side is a Republican, Ron Paul. Now if that doesn't give one a headache from confusion, what will?
That's my nickle...
IN THE COLD @ 109:
behold a pale horse would have been MUCH more credible, IMHO, had cooper not gone into all of the alien and UFO nonsense... US govt collusion with alien overlords and the such. assertions like that have a way of weighing his credibility down.
i
I would like to find web outlets to get this published. It is by my retired attorney friend who goes by the handle "Winston Smith" as he does not want to get the harassment that some attract with these sorts of observations. Please feel free to post wherever you see fit.

Those who accept their position in the new regime might be allowed to continue working and consuming, but thinking itself will be a crime.
Let me save the Admin some time...

Martial Law is the method and the list of people to be "detained" is probably longer than your arm...
legalpad @ 113:
Yeah... and steel buildings burn...
The good news this morning is that the FBI is thinking of setting up a program with thousands of collaborator citizen snitches. Should be one way to keep off the list for the initial culling to the camps.
Bubbleroom = cone of silence?
Bush = Maxwell Smart?
Now I understand.
