Open Thread - Call for "Open Thread" Submissions

from Manila Ryce at The Largest Minority, full version here.

If you have a YouTube/Google Video/etc. that advocates your own personal opinion on an issue of the day, feel free to email the link to bluegalsblog@gmail.com, subject line "open thread submission." Keep your video to less than three and a half minutes.

I don't have to agree with your video to post it, and videos are not necessarily the opinion of anyone here at Crooks and Liars. We're looking for clever, well-argued points of view with video talent thrown in. The video must be your creation, and nothing more than three and a half minutes will be considered. And if it's a pro-Tom Tancredo video, I won't run it no matter how short it is.

Videos not posted on an open thread may be used at a blog round up or I may steal them with attribution for my own blog...my point is, if you're good, I'll try to get you noticed.

Much thanks BG for posting my vid. I've got more at my YouTube channel, so please subscribe if you dig 'em.

As I'm sure most people here are probably aware, our threatening stance towards Iran is mirroring our lead up to war with Iraq, and the seriousness of this situation is not being recognized. A great degree of passivity and powerlessness is prevailing amongst the American people. What we need to do is voice our support for the small minority who ARE doing something. We can’t let Congress get away with this again.

Great video. Are you tired of not being represented? Want to shock the hell out of the Dems? Want to show them that WE do have power? Listen to the video again. THEY are telling you not to vote for the one person who represents what WE the people want. They are telling you that he is not electable. PROVE THEM WRONG!!! Vote for Dennis Kucinich.

I hope my vote will count!

I WILL NOT vote for another Clinton! We need someone who will get us medical insurance!

My family has none. All we get is bills and my pay check has been taken by the local hospital and Doctors. How much more can my family take! I work 2 jobs, and I will NEVER pay my wifes medical bills! Never!

Please elect someone who will get us health care insurance! PLEASE!!!!

I've been considering that too for a while now. Still not sure if that would do any good for the situation though. I'll have to at least go and vote for a new Congressperson. My last new one doesn't seem to understand the urgency.

Isn't Pillsbury one of those ultra-evil corporations? Just sayin'. Maybe it was a freebie, or he likes the dough boy. I used to, and troll dolls, and desperately desperately wanted an Easy-Bake oven-- oh yeah!! Boys weren't allowed that back in the 60's. That's when I dropped out of cub scouts, sensing it was a para-military, brainwashing organization, after only 6 weeks. I was 7.

I liked how we could be politically incorrect back then. There was less outrage. We just did things without having to worry about our government all the time. I wonder how many man-hours, productive hours (in a nation that keeps track of such) are wasted in this political bickering. It wasn't good for everyone, granted. Blacks in the South had a raw deal. I sometimes wonder if it's better for a lot of people now though. No health care, dropping wages, WAR, erosion of civil liberties, and we have new groups to disparge with renewed zeal. Gays and "Latinos" come to mind. Have we progressed at all? Maybe we've regressed?

Think of all the good that could be done with the money spent, and the time spent, on political fighting. How much time do we spend here every day? How much of America's energy is wasted on inane crap?

Sometimes, you know, I could care less if these corporations take all the money. Leave me my freedom!!!!!! Money is the root of evil. North Americans/Europeans have far too much of it already. I don't need much; we all need to pay for the basics. I'm NOT greedy!!

There's a whole beautiful universe we live in, but we destroy it, and don't even look anymore, because we're fighting each other. Is that god's plan (if you're a believer)? Is that/this what we shoud be doing?

Yup. The only reason I'm staying registered as a Dem is to vote for Kuch in the primaries:

Five years ago - October 3, 2002 - the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, by large and vocal majorities, were championing and stampeding to approve George W. Bush's "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq." In speech after speech, familiar names - Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd - parroted and rallied around the Bush Administration's warnings of imminent threat, weapons of mass destruction, terrorist collaboration, and national security risk.

That day five years ago, one Congressman, un-swayed by the "intelligence" and unmoved by the growing clamor and pressure from his colleagues, took to the floor of the U.S. House to say - emphatically and without hesitation - "No."

NO credible evidence of weapons of mass destruction. NO connection to 9/11. NO imminent threat to nations in the region or to the United States. NO reason to go to war.

On that day, it took courage for Dennis Kucinich to stand before the Congress, the nation, and the world against a tidal wave of political support for an impending war he knew to be wrong. It took keen insight to see through the flaws of a policy destined to failure and ruination. And it took leadership to rally more than 120 of his House colleagues to join him in voting NO five days later.

The Corporations love the way the game is slanted so far in their favor, but it wouldn't take but a handful of brave Americans to lead the fight against them.

Unfortunatly you will not find enough of those people in the Democratic party and you won't find ANY in the Republican party. I believe DennisK is the man, but he can't do it on his own. go look for a cartoon penguin and here's what you end up with: "That part of the ruling will surely be contested before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition, there is another case flatly disagreeing with Aiken's -- a mysterious decision titled In re Sealed Case, issued in 2002 by the highly secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review (called "the FISCR"). This court meets at an undisclosed location, and only the government is a party to its cases. When the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court itself turns down a government request for a warrant, the government (but no one else) may appeal to the FISCR, and if it loses in the FISCR, the government (but no one else) may appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court."

I'm late getting up to speed, but these C-SPAN Blackwater hearings today were amazing.

Waxman swings the bat, and he has some of our finest Representatives on that committee.

For one thing, Waxman grilled the State Dept. (Griffin) over the reasons for the State Dept. to help a fugitive BW employee to leave Iraq after commiting murder.

Seems they don't have a very good explanation. Also, young Prince looked like he didn't know whether to cry or wet his pants.

Waxman is proof that Archimedes was right.

Daily Kos: CIA Engineered Controlled Opposition?
The News - Latest News
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 27 September 2007
KirtNimmo.com - Is it possible Markos Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga, leader of the “Kossaks,” that is to say followers and fawners of the Daily Kos, is a CIA operative? Francis Holland, posting on the My Left Wing messageboard, details Moulitsas’ relationship with the CIA:

“Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, owner of the DailyKos website, now admits that he spent six months in the employ of the US Central Intelligence Agency in 2001,” writes Holland. “In a one-hour interview on June 2, 2006 at the Commonwealth Club, Moulitsas, also known as ‘Kos,’ admitted that he was a CIA employee and would have ‘no problem working for them’ in the present.”

“I applied to the CIA and I went all the way to the end, I mean it was to the point where I was going to sign papers to become Clandestine Services,” Moulitsas admits in the interview. “And it was at that point that the Howard Dean campaign took off and I had to make a decision whether I was gonna kinda join the Howard Dean campaign, that whole process, or was I was going to become a spy. (Laughter in the audience.) It was going to be a tough decision at first, but then the CIA insisted that if, if I joined that, they’d want me to do the first duty assignment in Washington, DC, and I hate Washington, DC. Six years in Washington, DC [inaudible] that makes the decision a lot easier.”

In keeping with her agenda of bashing the Dems at any chance:

"AMY GOODMAN: And Obama and Edwards?"

Obama didn't vote on it, and Edwards is no longer in the Congress. The fact that H. Clinton represents New York, which includes a powerful pro-Israel lobby, is what they were talking about.

Leave it to the propagandizing Goodman to sneer at Obama and Edwards with a wink and a nod, without actually demonstrating anything. It's their Earth Tones, donchaknow.

Paul in LA's picture

So what, Markos was a CIA agent for a month or two. You have to have an EXTREMELY paranoid mind to think that means anything in particular. Find the ways in which Markos has done ANYTHING that would serve the CIA's foreign or domestic operations.

He's often wrong politically, but he doesn't seem to be advancing any kind of CIA agenda, so it's just BULLSHIT to attack him without evidence of something.

And now the site is down, so probably someone crashed it to punish the CIA -- gad, Jesus wept.

Great Video! Too many people today don't understand that to hold onto our democracy, and at this point it is a very fragile democracy, it takes participation by the people. We send these people to Washington and give them a blank check, far more perks than those they are supposed to represent have and then turn them loose with no supervision or demands on them. I'm all for building barracks living quarters for them that they must reside in, a mess hall they must eat in, give them no more than the average American workers make and take away that wonderful insurance they have and make them carry their own like most of us have to do. We might get true public servants who would actually give a damn about the people they represent instead of these self-absorbed miscreants we have now.

Thanks for posting video work by us little guys! I created a little tune for Ms. Pelosi which she can view at http://choppedliverproductions.com.

Charles Manson is a "compelling interview" too and more coherent.

Cool vid, I like the message. If he had only lit himself a little better it would've upped the quality by 100%.

There are too many to respond to individually, but I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind comments. This is a warmer reception than I expected from a large blog like C&L, where readers are bound to subscribe to a varying array of political beliefs. These responses tell me that there is a larger reservoir of frustration and disenchantment amongst the public than anyone really knows. The corporate media and mainstream blogosphere do such a good job at cheerleading for the top tier candidates that we often feel we are alone in stating the obvious. As I said at the end, we need to unite towards this common goal so others know there is a strong alternative. I truly respect C&L for taking chances like this. We now need to make our voices heard across the blogosphere and all forms of media. This however is a good start.

Peace
