BWAHAHAHAHA!
The Turks continue to blackmail
the U.S. into denying the Armenian genocide, too. The Supreme Court advocates
rendition. The U.S. leaves Iraqi refugees behind. California might have to ration
water.

Where do you go every day on the Web?
I go to Talking Points Memo several times a day—the main site and its offshoots. That's the set of sites I go to by far the most. TPM feels like home; ideologically and politically it's a perfect fit for me. I can rely on it to draw my attention to anything that's of major interest to me in the world of public affairs. I go to two of the Atlantic blogs, namely Sullivan and Yglesias. Slightly less often I go to Romenesko and Crooks & Liars and Wolcott and Fallows; and Kevin Drum at the Washington Monthly. The American Prospect I go to almost daily. The Plank, the New Republic's group blog. Steve Clemons' Washington Note. Glenn Greenwald is someone I go to a lot. I check out Kos now and then to take the temperature of the teeming liberal masses.
Al Qaida has cable.

From today's IMDB: U.S. Army Returns Confiscated News Footage
Associated Press Television News reported today (Tuesday) that the U.S. military in Iraq has returned footage seized by American soldiers last week from one of APTN's cameramen. The cameraman, Ayad M. Abd Ali, had been filming the aftermath of an insurgent attack against the Polish ambassador that left him critically injured. A.P. said that after his video was grabbed, Ali was handcuffed, blindfolded, and taken away in a Humvee. After being detained by U.S. troops for some 40 minutes, he was released, but his video was not returned. Initially a U.S. Army spokesman had cited an Iraqi law against taking photographs at the scene of insurgent attacks. He later denied, however, that the Army was enforcing Iraqi laws. Then on Monday the Army returned the tapes. A.P. attorney Dave Tomlin told the wire service that he was glad the video had been returned, "but it should never have been seized in the first place. ... We plan to ask for assurances that soldiers aren't actually being told to harass journalists and interfere with newsgathering."
NBC Chief Thought Couric Too Liberal, Says Book
While Katie Couric was still co-hosting the Today show, former NBC President Robert Wright forwarded a note to her from a viewer who complained that Couric had been "too confrontational" during her interview with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Washington Post media writer Howard Kurtz has revealed in his new book, Reality Show: Inside the Last Great Television News War, out today (Tuesday). "Couric felt that Wright must be telling her to back off" on the war in Iraq, Kurtz writes. "She wanted to believe that her NBC colleagues were partners in the search for truth, and no longer felt that was the case. She knew that the corporate management viewed her as an out-and-out liberal. When she ran into Jack Welch, the General Electric chairman, he would sometimes say that they had never seen eye to eye politically. If you weren't rah rah rah for the Bush administration, and the war, you were considered unpatriotic, even treasonous."
Yeah, he's right. Who doesn't "support the troops" . I like that. along with the obligatory "thank you for your
service to our country". It's all bullshit. The truth is I feel sorry for troops. I know a lot of young guys who
signed up for service based on bullshit ideas. They don't have a clue when they go in. Then, they are
embarrased that they were so stupid. I am talking the the mutts here. The guys with shitty military jobs.
They are rightfully proud they did a solid for the USA..but they are disheartened and a little embarrased
that they were so stupid about it.
For me, I don't think these troops are actually 'protecting freedom' in Iraq. I am troubled by the crazy
rock inflamed missions they take (that I have seen). I am sick by the deaths we are involved in.

Democratic-Led Congress Breaks Record For Highest Number Of Roll Call Votes In History - 943. Despite this fact, former Republican House speaker Boehner states, “Congressional Democrats” have “failed to deliver on any of their promises and have almost no accomplishments of which to speak.” Interesting considering last year's Republican controlled Congress held only 543 votes. There is more about the Senate and Republicans' use of cloture votes on record pace. How's that for obstructionists?
Yes, most of us are pissed off because the Democratic members of Congress have not done more to end the occupation of Iraq. They at least deserve some credit for getting more legislation voted on than those "hard working" Republicans who just so happened to meet for the least amount of days in a year for Congress. (101 days) And as if this was not enough, Rep. Ray LaHood (R-IL), complained “that the Democrats’ new five-day workweek” is part of the reason he is not seeking re-election.

"I'm not a suspect"
- Dean Evans
No, you're not a suspect, because racist assholes like you forget who bombed the OKC federal building and abortion clinics. No, you're not a suspect.
Dean Evans is an ignorant asshole.
they have cable, virgins and toyotas, what more could anyone want ???
Sorry, but don't they have those things? that is what we have been told by the MSM...( and that crappy playground video we have seen a gazillions times..)
It's true. Dr. Magneto laughed too loud, lied about a bj, did not wear the mutant pride pin and gave a loud scream once, so now all the mutants won't follow him. Sources say. Did I mention "sources say"? That's the key. I'm a journalist, you see. I live in DC. That's Washington, DC to you hicks out there. Now go read my oped. Thanks! Where's that girl with my latte????
Perhaps Amero currency is a good thing. The US dollar has so fallen under the Bush administration. Canadian dollars are now at or above the US. Nice work, GWB. Tar & feathers, anyone?
Wow, some of the above posts are so bizarre. But I have to say, I didn't like that bit about "I'm not a suspect" either. Thank you to the earlier poster who mentioned Oklahoma City and abortion clinics. Why does no one call bombing an abortion clinic terrorism? We have "eco-terrorism." Shouldn't there be an equivalent word for right-wing kill-the-baby-killers terrorism?
Rachel, it's the exact same kind of terrorism that IslamoFaciest terrorism is. Terrorism by supposed religious fundamentalists (IMHO they're anything but religious, here or there.)
Global warming heats up American winters.
Rachel @ 17:
No need for an equivalent word. The word will do. We should just call them terrorists. They're not a special kind of terrorist ('cept maybe as domestic terrorists). They're just plain terrorists.
this isn't funny, unfortunately.
ace @ 16:
Boy would I love to see that pile of piss with tar and feathers all over his ass. If justice only had the capability of providing this in my lifetime. Or course I'd first want him to be convicted of his crimes and treason. And on his way to the penitentiary I'd want him to have to walk publicly for a long time complete with tar and feathers. What a dream. If society was only so cool and had such a sense of humor to make this happen.
His joke about the Costco/Wal-Mart receipt guys (5:30 of the clip) at the border kind of scared me. I know he thought it was funny, but it kind of reminded me of those old shows you see about Nazi Germany where they are always asking poor hungry people for their "papers". The joke was probably on the annoyance and effectiveness of those workers at Costco and Wal-Mart but it conjured up those images of assholes with guns asking powerless people for their papers.
Damn this whole situation. The government has really taken a downturn since George Bush Jr. took office. Their push for power really seems to be speeding up as well. Hope someone can save the dollar. protect the nation. and fix our foreign policy blunders. Other than that we should be fine.
It's too bad those people in Burma didn't win in their confrontation with their government. It doesn't get much sadder than that.
He has his moments, but he needs a little work. Then again I suck at stand up so what do I know.

i am so embarrassed to be an American. the most ignorant and dangerous president in our history, who appears more like hitler day by day. we have elected representatives in congress who would rather wholesale give away our constitutional rights and whose lips are so brown from their corporate ass-kissing. the non-entity corporations have more rights in this country than the actual citizens who are paying with blood and sweat.
our constitution came from a brave and intelligent group of diverse men to protect us from the very transgressions bush/cheney are illegally stealing from us every day, and that is our constitutionsl rights. bush/cheney and the religious reich need to be removed or deminished from further destroying this great country. bush/cheney need to be removed from office before they nonchanlantly nuke another country. they are both delusional and criminal in all they are doing.

I used to think I'd never feel that WAY. I was naive back then.

It is uncomfortable to have to deal with genocide or other facts and crimes that occur in foreign lands. It is uncomfortable to have to deal with molestation or other forms of suffering, sickness, abuse, and poverty that can occur right in your own neighborhood. It is uncomfortable to have to realize that your own government might be responsible for the very acts of terrorism or crimes you've been told need to be fought against. The cost of not dealing with these facts and things that are uncomfortable can be almost unbearable. Deal with as much of it as you can. Others depend on it, and you may too.

Glacial Acceleration - A Sea of Troubles - http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/10/08/4409/
It is hard to shock journalists and at the same time leave them in awe of the power of nature. A group returning from a helicopter trip flying over, then landing on, the Greenland ice cap at the time of maximum ice melt last month were shaken. One shrugged and said: ”It is too late already.”
Robert Correll, chairman of the Artic Climate Impact Assessment, from Washington told me:”We have seen a massive acceleration of the speed with which these glaciers are moving into the sea. The ice is moving at 2 metres an hour on a front five kilometres long and 1,500 metres deep.
“That means that this one glacier puts enough fresh water into the sea in one day to provide drinking water for a city the size New York or London for a year.”

Hedge fund tax loophole to stay intact - http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/13166.html
The president, congressional Republicans believe they deserve to keep a tax break that has no rational purpose. The point here is that hedge-fund managers should see their income treated just like our income. Right now, they pay capital-gains rates (15%), we pay income-tax rates (35%).
With this the government loses out on $6.3 billion of revenue each year....I wonder what will happen if those billionaires & millionaires are traveling on a bridge when it collapses...will their money save them???

Medford Oregon Teacher Wants to Take Deadly Concealed Handgun to School For Fear of Her Ex-Husband - http://www.gunguys.com/#post-2546
We have no idea whether Shirley Katz has been threatened or not -- and it's not for us to determine. But the fact that Katz said this is "primarily" about her "right" to carry a handgun in a school makes us wonder if there is more to this story than meets the eye. (ie, a NRA fundie lunatic plot...figures)
If Shirley Katz truly believes that her ex-husband is so violent that he might come into her school and shoot up the place and murder her, then she should request a temporary administrative leave or police protection at school. For Shirley Katz not to do so -- if she feels so threatened by her ex-husband -- is putting her students' lives at risk by inviting a potential tragedy on school grounds.
Finally, leave it to a young person to distill this issue into its most important point: "I totally understand she wants to protect herself," said Lauren Forderer, 16, a junior. "But I don't agree she should bring her problems around 2,000 other people."

Do the gun toting Americans, like NRA members, know that they would lose their right to carry guns (other than hunting rifles)? The Bushnazis would love this. Can't have an insurgency in the newly formed nation. The new nazi government will need to take away those semi-automatics and any other big gun and little gun so that the former Americans don't shoot at the private Blackwater army.

This would be an attempt of "let bygones be bygones" by president Bush IF Turkey was not STILL busy wiping the historical remains of the ancient Armenian kingdoms of the face of the earth. The sad truth of it is that they have been blowing up and bulldozing down Armenian cathedrals, castles, statues, inscriptions etc. since the genocide, in the hope of erasing any marks of that ancient civilization from their territories. This is in essence a crime against human civilisation, just as it would be to blow up the golden gate bridge and the capitol, in the hopes US culture would be forgotten.
The question IF it was a genocide is undisputable, the pledge by the Turkish commander sounded like "I shall kill every Christian man, woman, and" (pointing to his knee) "every child, up to here." and the order issued the 19th of April 1915 was "The Armenians must be exterminated. If any Muslim protect a Christian, first, his house shall be burnt; then the Christian killed before his eyes, then his [the Muslim's] family and himself." Just in the city of Van, the killings amounted to 55.000 people and only stopped when the Russians came to the rescue. The genocide continued however for the remainder of WW1, or until the last of the Ottoman sultans capitulated.
This all happened under the reign of the Ottomans and the Turks must, just as the Germans did after WW2, come to terms with its past. The US refusing to acknowledge this dark moment in history, only to keep Turkey as a forward base to attack Muslim states in the future is a scandal. And not only a scandal, but makes the US an accomplice in a vile, evil and ongoing crime.
So are Al-Qaeda bigger fans of South Park or Sponge Bob No Pants?
