Go Dennis K!
I suspect the only way their will be an urgent call to put and end to the Iraq debacle is when these start arriving in the mail to America's young people.

L.A. Confidential @ 2:
How many people would follow Dubya Bushes order to report for induction?
Guitardedkev @ 3:

I hope De Palma did a better job with this than he did with The Black Dahlia. He completely botched that one.
anon @ 5:

Watching that sh*t makes me feel sick...bad stuff happens when you invade a country. Bad stuff. For everyone.

Johnny2Bad @ 12:
War is ugly stuff. Really UGLY STUFF.
Well as long as we are in major economic decline there won't have to be a draft because the military will be the only option other then complete destitution for many people.
L.A. Confidential @ 14:
and the nice thing about the military is they really know how to tech you to hate races,

MSNBC On Kerik: "9/11 Hero Indicted"
The teevee is telling us today that Bernard Kerik, scheduled to be arraigned today on criminal charges, is a "9/11 Hero!"
[We have a thread devoted to that very subject MSNBC calls Bernard Kerik a 9/11 Hero! posted about 7 1/2 hours ago. This is not it-Sitemonitor]

reviews says wait for the dvd rental
Brian DePalma is not the greatest film maker of all time, but if the kids go see this flick maybe they will stay out of the military and live long enough to have sex.
ENOUGH.
(WAR)
tyree @ 34:
reviews say republican trolls are assholes...
you agree, don't you?
joe cantwell @ 38:
you wouldnt get an arguement from me there!
joe cantwell @ 38:
Tyree is not a Troll.
He is a grumpy man with a pissed off dispotition who fought in Korea. He also says what he thinks, often in a very interesting way.
I think you need a new Troll Identification Kit. See your provider for details.
Good on ya, Brian!!
joe cantwell @ 23:
Not at all, seems to be a US troop thing.
I'm eager to see this film. O'Reilly's going apeshit about it
i aint gonna see it, because there are docs that are 10x better
This must be a great film.
Cause the Right are ready to Kama Kazi over it.
(It is a simple movie about a true story).
Jezus. How bad a call was this war?
JerryM @ 42:
Where to start...
I am against the War in Iraq. I am against war. Period.
However, just as there is good and bad behavior on our nations highways, in our schools, our work life (and for the people who own us, their leisure life) there is good and bad behavior in the military. My scant understanding of this particular incident is that through lowering their standards the military recruited at least one really sick puppy who happened to be a member of this group. He certainly is not responsible for the actions of the others but it would seem he had a strong influence.
War brings out a lot in a person that can be very ugly. Often when this happens the results are devistating, especially to the soldier after returning home.
Do the right thing. Oppose war.
I give you "Body Double".
The guy makes great movies.
I give you "The Bill O'Reilly Factor".
The guy makes crap TV.
xoites defends Constitution @ 46:
something we can all agree on.
xoites defends Constitution @ 46:

The Dogs of War.
Let's cut to the chase.
The "Bush dog".
You are quite welcome, Tyree. :)

nobody wants to pay to see what they can see for free on the cable news channels
Kinda seems staged to me. At least they're playing for the camera. WTF do I know, though...

"Redacted".
A film about a true story.
DePalma will get the Oscar.
Flops get Oscars.
Hello?
ah with the price of going to theaters these days most movies make thier money off the rentals anyway!
whizkid @ 57:
Hard to flop before opening night.
Plus a tip o' the cap to Billo.
Great the way he made a film about the USA come above the water.
xoites defends Constitution Says: whizkid @ 57:

Hello?
Hard to flop before opening night.
"Ideed".
If anyone knows a soldier in need of some healing after this demoralizing war, WWII vet, John Irwin has a great book, Another River, Another Town. Given the stories that come out of Iraq, Irwin's account of leadership seems to be the difference. The NCO's in his unit took the high ground always and set the example of what a good American does. The soldiers saw first hand the prisoners in the concentration camps, and still, German POWs were treated humanely...even though some passionate soldiers wanted to take justice into their own hands. Irwin is honest, funny, and shrewd as he talks about his experience as a soldier, (a teenage tank gunner).
All this movie needs is an appearance by dreamy George Clooney for Oscar contention. On a more serious note, I too have read Another River, Another Town - amazing book. Marcus Luttrell's Lone Survivor is a great one if you're looking to pull genuine heroism out of this god-awful mess in Afghanistan and Iraq.
duncanidho @ 51:
you said it in a nutshell.....like kids playing a fucking video game...
joe cantwell @ 23 :
No, but how many americans really heard of that story.
Or the many others?
This is among the most important parts of this entire subject: The Truth.
No one wants to hear it. And that should be THE single thing that should drive the people to the streets in masses.
People should be pissed off if they have to find out the truth this way.
But what is happening?
People are totally ignorant.
And that is the way dictators and their ilk want them to be.
"Ra ra, go Amerika".. and then shut up and watch tv.
We need more people like this blasting the US people with the truth. More and more might wake up and think... hey, they lied to us about that Football player being shot.. who tells me anything they tell me is the truth.
Isn't it a sign of a banana republic that the government can get caught red handed and nothing happens?
Nothing besides the leakers getting nailed to the walls.
Sometimes, especially if you are imitating a documentary, bad acting works. People don't deliver lines like actors in real life. The Blair Witch Project had bad acting and I enjoyed it. It also made millions.
3 tours in that hell-hole and you'll turn into something you never thought you'd be I guarantee.
respecting the movie and all I had a problem with my suspension of disbelief.
(yeah..i'm that stupid motherfucker that should be the technical advisor for pointing out some "glaring" (ok Subtle to someone who's been in the situation)
The MSG seems a bit on the young side for a 3rd tour, 2ndly, why I would expect a young private on the perimeter alone like that on a first tour where nobody knows what to expect, that wouldn't occur with a 2nd or 3rd tour.
3rd, Joe didn't pay attention to the briefs about handing out his rations..as amatter of fact the exchange between him and the MSG seemed a little naive.
As far as the lingo, talking shit, ALi baba Mother fucker.. Spot on.
Ali Baba, as in Ali Baba and the 40 thieves is a local coloqualism right up there with Shoku Mock U
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ali+Baba note the entry from UAE
coleshack @ 66:
That is such a good point. It seems more real when it isn't polished. BTW, The Blair Witch project is the scariest movie I have ever seen in my life. It must have cost around ten cents. Scared the s%$t outta me.
Boring!
Another lame Hollywood movie about the failed Iraq war? How many of these bad movies is Hollywood going to make?
All these movies have bombed. Lions For Lambs, Rendition, now this one from the once great Brian De Palma. We're all sick of the war on terror. Why would I want to spend hard earned money on a movie about this already run into the ground subject?
Just cut all funding for the war and bring the troops home NOW! Screw Iraq. They've been fighting for centuries in the Middle East what makes anyone think America can fix those problems in a few short years?
Bush has failed and these Hollywood movies about the subject are failing. End it now, bring the troops home.
Sinto @ 70:
Wow, you're actually proving the point you're trying to criticize.
1. These movies are made to raise awareness and inform the American public about oh so many things they have limited knowledge about, especially foreign policy. If you don't want to be part of the political process, the decisions your government makes, and the consequences of its actions, then you are not worthy of living in a democracy, let alone being called a citizen. Good citizens are the watchdogs of their government. Your attitude is that of an apathetic populous. I guess as long as you get your Sunday football games, a plasma TV on Christmas and a nice gadget for your birthday, it's all Jim dandy. Am I right?
Keep in mind, that the "wars" you're talking about in the Middle East weren't exactly caused or started by the natives of that region. Colonialism and imperialism tore that region apart in the 20th century. British colonialism, French colonialism and now American Colonialism are at the heart of the vast majority of that region's problems. For example, when the British withdrew from the areas under their control in the M.E. they divided the region into several states, installing unpopular leaders and separating families and entire villages by drawing random borders throughout the land.
By the way, what makes this movie "lame"? Is reality offensive? Perhaps these movies aren't popular because they are being trolled by right wingers who hate "liberal elitist Hollywood types"? I mean you guys love throwing around these labels. Talk about the dumbing down of America. Whatever happened to critical thinking?
Also, no one's forcing you to watch this movie. Or spend your hard earned money on it. You can go back to your hiding place if the real world and it's problems bother you so much. Just remember not to whine in 15 or 20 years when the government's policies end up hurting you financially or otherwise. Nah, you'll probably find a scapegoat to blame it all on.
