I couldn't have said it better
I was watching the CNN debate last night and couldn't believe what I witnessed from stage as I caught up late last night. Is this what the GOP has to offer America? Richelieu agrees...
So, a good night for for the lowest denominator, a bad night for the GOP. America got to see a vaguely threatening parade of gun fetishists, flat worlders, Mars Explorers, Confederate flag lovers and zombie-eyed-Bible-wavers as well as various one issue activists hammering their pet cause...
He forgot that Rudy wants to replace all retiring federal employees with 10 years left of service with Robots., And as for the ladies, when they try to outlaw abortion you don't have anything to fear. In their eyes---you're incapable of making a rational decision on what you can do with your own bodies, you won't be prosecuted by the law.

Frist!
So, a good night for for the lowest denominator, a bad night for the GOP. America got to see a vaguely threatening parade of gun fetishists, flat worlders, Mars Explorers, Confederate flag lovers and zombie-eyed-Bible-wavers as well as various one issue activists hammering their pet cause…
lol! nailed it!
Richelieu forgot to add paranoid zealots, angry hateful warmongers, and classless lowlifes.
Aw don’t be too hard on republicans. Obviously these are not the real republican candidates. These are just the losers they suckered into running this election. Any republican with brains (just because they’re evil doesn’t mean they’re dumb) is waiting for the next go round.
Think about it, any republican who can look around and say “Now is my chance!” is obviously not a serious candidate.
I think these candidates are like the dates in one of those frat boy contests where they try to find the ugliest dates. The GOP knew they needed to field some candidates but didn’t want to risk anyone serious so they got these guys. Giuliani is pro-gun control, pro life, pro immigration. Romney is a Mormon from the NE who has also been pro everything before flip flopping for the race. And those are the top two contenders! Ron Paul is insane. Huckabee wants to fight for Israel so the apocalypse can happen!
And then there's the CBS reporter who mimicked Suzanne Malveaux's line. "The real show-stealer was the American people."
It's also ironic that Huckabee answered the death penalty question with, "Jesus was too smart to run for public office."
Unintentional humor coming from a bunch of guys trying to convince us they have God's endorsement, or that we're fighting a war of religious ideologies against the evil hordes of people-not-as-white-as-we-are.
We know that there's slim pickings on the GOP/ReThug side of the aisle. No one wants to run for an office where the leader of their party has FUBAR'ed and his successor is going to need two terms just to clean up the mess being left.
OTOH, I wouldn't shout for joy on the Democrats' side of the aisle, either. It's almost too much to hope that Hillary and Obama cancel each other out and clear the way for Edwards, Kucinich or Dodd. While I'd like to see history made, the problems facing this country are far too serious to entrust to someone making history being the first Black man/female/fill in the blank, becoming President and proceeds to pick up where the predecessor left off.
CNN is shown all around the globe. The non debate only reinforces the world's view that Americans are truly stupid hicks.
Who chose which questions to use?
Couldn't have done a better job of representing the thug party as it is. The idea that questions from the people are better than those from the media is a moot point when the media is screening the questions.
The strangle-hold on the true issues couldn't be more effectively throttled by the MSM.
Whatever it once was, the MSM has lost its effing mind.
Filthy Harry @ 4:
Why is Ron Paul insane ?
anti war
anti empire building
anti interventionist
pro constitution/bill of rights
anti torture
pro habeas corpus
anti IRS
anti big government
etc
He's more open about his foreign policy than any democrat bar Mike Gravel, none of those will even rule out military action against Iran, they're the crazies imo.
Like Mr. Rogers said, the United States is going to be a frightening place to live in during the next decade. And you don’t hear anyone disagreeing .
McCain: speaking of taxes....Ron Paul is a NAZI sympathizer.
i don't know what kind of moderator let's him get away with that....
oh yeah...the complacent compliant cowards at CNN

AKA: The "Base" (al Qaeda).
Your quote makes Richelieu look smarter and more disillusioned with the Republicans than he actually is. A reading of his entire 3-paragraph post reveals what he really thinks:
- CNN (not the GOP and its pathetic candidates) is to blame for the "lowest denominator" tone of the debate.
- the debate proves the wisdom of the founding fathers, who "knew that the secret to government is to protect it from the daily mob" [?!?].
- Fred Thompson, though "listless", is his man.

What about "nice guy" Mick Huckaloogie's comment about sending Hillary to Mars?
My favorite part was the YouTube Question from the Fetus.
When Rove reviews the CNN debate, you can bet your ass that Bush's next signing statement is going to provide that:
'No Republican presidential candidate shall appear in public, under penalty of assassination by this office'.
ysbaddaden @ 14:
She's already there, ysbaddaden. She's already there.
Will Oprah Winfrey, when she comes on stage into the battle ground of debate have an open mind to address some issues about Barack Obama? Like, he was originally named “Baraka.” It is not an African name. It's an Arabic word meaning “blessed” and comes directly from the Koran.
Or that Obama stretched the truth, or some would say Obama lied about his father's religious denomination during the DNC Convention in 2004. He said his father was a non-practicing Christian. His grandfather was named 'Hussein.' That is an Arabic-Muslim, not African, name. Hussein was a devout Muslim and named his son, Barack Senior, 'Baraka.' Baraka is an Arabic word meaning 'blessed.' Baraka comes out of the Koran and Arabic, not Africa. Actually, Obama is a Muslim who has concealed his religion.
I am a strong supporter of the Muslim community, and I believe Muslims have been scapegoated. Obama has a great opportunity to be forthright. Instead, he has treated his Muslim heritage as a dark secret. His grandfather was named 'Hussein.' That is an Arabic-Muslim, not African.
Barack Senior was also a devoted Muslim, and also chose a Muslim name for his son, our own Barack Obama, Junior. Again, his name was an Arabic and Koranic. Some say it does not mean anything but other do. In fact much of Obama Sr. was part of one of the most corrupt and violent organizations in Africa: the Kenyatta regime. Obama's father ran back to Kenya soon after the British left. Others call it likely Obama's father had Mau Mau sympathies or connections, or he would not have been welcomed into the murderous inner circle of rapists, murderers, and arsonists. All controversial, but highlighted in well document areas in the Internet.
And we think we have problems with a Mormon, It is time for Barack Obama to stop presenting a fantasy to the American people. We are forgiving and many would still support him. It may well be that his concealment is meant to endanger Israel. His Muslim religion would obviously raise serious questions in many Jewish circles where Obama now enjoys support.
A Muslim claiming to be a Christian is not unheard of. The pertinent question is, Is Obama actually a Muslim practicing the well-known art of taqqiyah (lying to infidels) in order to infiltrate the halls of American power? It's a relevant question not because of the "sins of the father" as several liberal posters have claimed, but because of Obama's own lies (anybody remember any other Democrats who lied?) about his past. And it's a question that needs to be taken seriously if Americans are seriously thinking about handing this man a key to the Oval Office. As usual, Mainstream Media will bury their heads in the sand because it's politically incorrect to impugn black Muslim orphans, but the question must be answered.
Obviously all this controversy is do to a failed Mainstream Media. Actually and ideally Barrack Hussein Obama can probably have his back ground totally surppressed just as the Bush family has had its close family ties to the Bin Laden family, where they are Al Qaeda, the very enemy America is fighting. Both all completely and deliberately taken out of mainstream media discussions.
For all intents and purposes, we can see how eminently intelligent your republican hero “george 'silver spoon' bush” is. probably the only president in american history to absolutely destroy another country, and yet be absolutely clueless as to what to do next. America will be in uncharted waters if Barack Hussein Obama keeps dodging his close business and political friends too.

What a ghostly, disturbing, group of losers. Watching these fools make me think I was in a time capsule to back when minorities did not exist on television. These men truly want to turn back the clock to 1951.

Anyone who thinks the free market is going to fix anything is insane. I understand the lure of being anti-big government, but people forget we're a society. And arrayed against the best interests of the individuals who make up that society are multi-national corporations with trillions of dollars at their disposal to use to get what they want. we NEED government to keep these business from laying us and everything else around them to waste as they pursue their next financial goal. And while I'm by nature anti-big govt. the fact is the larger the corporations, the larger the protection we need.
Not to mention is blatantly racist views that black children should be tried as adults for crimes that white children would be tried as children for because black kids are athletically superior. That is insane.

Very well put. I think Huckabee is a real possibility for the Rethug nomination because of all the things you said above.
What do you want to bet that the poor AD, who advised the candidates, just before the debate started, 'Be yourselves, the public will love it', gets his (her) ass canned?
I don't know
"President Huckabee" just has too much of a Hooter-ville ring to it.
But the deal is, that the GOP has the electronic voting machines and they also are famous for "dirty tricks" right before elections (swiftboating).
Also, the most important story, in California, GOP operatives are trying to get on the ballot a vote to cut up Ca.'s electoral votes by district, no more "winner take all", which is always Democratic.
The dirty trick? They are duping people into signing this petition on the pretense that it's something else. That is illegal.

Shouldn't that say I couldn’t have said it gooder?
curtilingus @ 20:
Great thanks. If fetuses did get the vote, it would be interesting to see politicians spending more time in the womb than in Iowa. And I guess amniotic fluid would replace ethanol as everyone's pet fuel.
Filthy Harry @ 4:
I agree.
A Dem will win in 2008, then Republicans will retake the White House in 2012.
Bush will bomb Iran and let the Dems take the heat for the war.
Say Hillary is elected. She'll gain office as the body count rises. She'll have to bring back the draft. If she gets us out of Iraq, then she'll start out labeled by the media as the President that lost the war. She won't do this, so she'll end up expanding the war.
Under her watch, casualties will increase to the point that Bush's tenure will seem like the good old days. Protests will build and many protesters will be killed.
This isn't because of what Hillary will decide to do, but because of the steaming pile of crap Bush will leave her with. But the media will be busy painting Bush as the Greatest American President, while Hillary struggles with a ground war in Iran that he began as he was leaving office.
I've published a possible outline of how things will play out on my blog.
http://weaseldog.blogspot.com/
And one more thing GOP. If you really think that your all white male throwback representation is a symbol of this nation's inevitable direction, dream on bigots! And don't sprinkle the christmas tree with pathetic tokens (Rice,Powell,Gonzales,etc.). You assholes are EXCLUSIVE plain and simple and you can't hide it.
Re: #18
Why do you presume that because Obama has a name with Arabic roots that he must 'come clean' about anything?
The rest of your tirade is nothing but cognitive dissonance - you're a supporter of the Muslim community but then go on to accuse Barack's father of supporting a criminal regime, and Obama himself of being a liar who is hiding/denying his heritage - which you then assert is reason to NOT elect him to office.
And George W. Bush ain't nobody's hero 'round these parts, stranger. You'd best just get back on your horse and ride on a-ways ...
Well I'm pretty glad that I was only able to stomach watching the debate for about thirty seconds. As for exploring Mars, NASA already has plans made, and personally I think it sounds pretty cool (perhaps because I'm reading a sci-fi book on the first expedition to Mars and NASA's plan sounds quite familiar). There's no chance I'm wading through the transcripts, so I have to ask: did Huckabee really say that thing about Jesus being too smart to run for public office? I really don't want to believe he said that because it makes my brain hurt too much.
Bud @ 33:
Maybe he wouldn't have to huckabee if he didn't keep doing this:

CALL FOR A FIFTH DEBATE IN NEW ORLEANS!
The presidential debate site selection commission's rejection of New Orleans must not be allowed to stand in light of how Katrina and its lingering after-effects are continuing to affect this country. We need a New Orleans debate so that this will be discussed. Her rejection as a debate site is morally indefensible, un-American, and a politically-motivated sham. And to compound this, commission members have been telling various lies about New Orleans to CYA. Here is contact info for the group members:
Co-Chair Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr. (President, CEO of American Gaming Association) [Ha!] [Ed. Fahrenkopf was head of the RNC in the 80's]
202-552-2675
Co-Chair Paul G. Kirk Jr. (Retired Partner of some law firm) [Ed. - Kirk was the head of the DNC in the 80's]

hswygert@howard.edu
Now, what we need to do is, whether we call or e-mail these commission members, let them know they need to accede to the following demands to make things right for New Orleans and Louisiana:
WHAT THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE SITE SELECTION COMMISSION NEEDS TO DO FOR NEW ORLEANS AND LOUISIANA
1.) Publicly apologize to the people and city of New Orleans and the state and people of Louisiana. Add that rejecting New Orleans as one of the four original debate sites was in error.
2.) Tell the truth about New Orleans--that she has beautifully hosted all sorts of events after Katrina and would be the perfect site for a presidential debate.
And the following is the most important because it is the only satisfactory way this issue will be resolved. It is non-negotiable--nothing less will be acceptable:
3.) Plan, schedule, and announce a FIFTH presidential debate to be held in New Orleans.
COPY THIS, PASTE IT, AND PASS IT ON!
What I want to know is how with 5,000+ questions, they have time for a song at the beginning, and several questions on gun control and abortion, but there was no time for a health care question.
Do Republican voters not have any issues with health care?
Well I searched the transcript. Huckabee really did say it and dodged the actual question. I'm thinking he wouldn't like the answer he'd have to give if he really answered it. I need to go numb my brain somehow now.
When I saw the transcripts on Kos, i thought it was meant as satire.

Undecided Republicans were underwhelmed by the Republican field. One Republican said SHE would consider voting for for JRE if he is the Democratic Party´s nominee. Watch this; it´s priceless.
too true!
In last night's Republican CNN/YouTube debate, Rudy Giuliani provided Americans with a rare moment of candor about the Bible and himself. Asked if every word of the Bible was literally true, Giuliani replied that much of it was "allegorical." Given his repeated distortions, exaggerations and outright falsehoods, Giuliani could have been describing his own campaign. In the Gospel According to Rudy, the tale of the 9/11 hero fighting terrorist evil isn't literally true, either.
For the details, see:
"The Gospel According to Rudy."
According to The Weekly Standard and reiterated on this site as if it was the truth:
“America got to see a vaguely threatening parade of gun fetishists, flat worlders, Mars Explorers, Confederate flag lovers…”
So, let me get this straight, we are all now ok with outright lying in order to smear our enemies? That sounds exactly what every one of you all hates the Republicans for doing.
In case you missed it, most of the candidates were surprisingly very reasonable on the issue of the Confederate flag. They called it offensive, a symbol of racism, and something that they don’t support. But, that’s inconvenient to the story we want to tell about how backwards and racist they are, so we’ll just pretend that they were a bunch of “Confederate flag lovers”.
Wake up people! It’s not written that only conservatives are capable of this Orwellian type of misinformation. Above we have an example from the left.
Cardinal Richelieu?
I wouldn't know, I'm not into baseball.
Chachi (#58) - I suspect that what Mr. Richelieu was referring to was not just the candidates, but also the questioners.
the repubs are always ready to party like it's 1999 BCE
jr Says@61 You mean the repubs party like it's 1899.
It was downright depressing. I fear for our country.

+1 f@#king insanity rules, they cannot even be considered mediocre, they have gotten that high on the totem pole yet.
You know, to set the republican candidates at ease, reduce the tension and the stage fright of appearing in public, they should do the intelligent thing, and hold all future republican debates in airport sh*t-houses, where republicans feel more 'at home'.
L.A. Confidential @ 22:
Insanity, and then more insanity, and then more insanity. My eyeballs hurt from rolling around in my head so will someone inject some semblance of reason, wisdom, compassion, humility, sorry I forgot, people who run for president don't need these qualities, just a big motherfucking pocket book filled with the obscenity money has become.
And Huckabee, change your fucking name, it sounds like a con some schill at the circus is trying to pull on the rubes.
Nez Pa?
None of the Republican -- and for that matter, Hillary and Obama's support of the war has made any sense to me. Until I realized, that IF this country is more than less an Oligarchy (run by corporations) like many of us suspect, then these debates are about a job interview for the REAL boss. Now, if you are one of the business elites, and you are looking for a "soft landing" with the economy -- you know, in the typical fashion of pumping up the GDP by doing things that don't add to prosperity, like building weapons and making war, then, which one of these candidates looks the best for the Status Quo?
NOW, does it make sense that they all look like so many flavors of Bush? And on the Liberal side, which is where the smart money thinks the election is going to go -- doesn't it look like the front-runners are bending over backwards to say; "Hey, we are going to be nicer, and look like we care a lot more, but we are going to change as little as possible from current policy as we can."
The really sad thing is that if they are interviewing for the job, rather than the voting public, it seems that THEY know that elections are rigged even more than we do.
Chachi @ 58:
Last time I checked, Chachi, concerns about the Confederate flag and it's "meaning" was not a high priority national issue for virtually anyone. Why don't you boneheads focus on things that are relevant and meaningful instead of letting some drooling gun nut drone on about his supposed "heritage?" Or is discussing Dixie pride a high priority for the Repubs now? Small wonder you people are in the tank.
bmw 528 @ 68:

I don't get why everyone is so anti Ron Paul. I don't believe he is the right guy for the job but compared to all the Republican canidates he is a saint. He is the only straight talker up there.
The only mention that I heard on health care was during the debate on immigration where Huckabee was attacked because he pushed to have health care given to the children of illegal immigrants.
It was given a negative connotation that needed to be explained.
Guiliani was also attacked because he said medical care had to be given to illegal aliens, but explained it away as he had to because it was Federally mandated.
Other than that... the 47 million Americans with out health care and the 18,000 who die every year because of a lack of access to health care don't exist.
But ask them about the Bible... "this book"... and they all sign-up faster than a hoard of fleas jumping on a junk yard dog!
Bobby @ 70:
I totally agree but the real reason so many Dems are against Ron Paul is because he is the one Republican candidate that can attract votes from Democrats.
There is no way this country will vote republican, unless ...they.....hold ....a gun...on...us....nevermind.

Just because the people didn't vote repuke, doesn't mean they won't win.

Christ, don't you wish all the republican primaries ended in ties, and all these ass*oles had to show up for the general 'debates'?
The Dems could nominate Lisa Simpson and win the election in a rout.
For women the Reslugs are toast.
The thing that really amazes me is that there are some people in this country that are honestly going to waste their votes on these GOP morons.
Meanwhile, keep an eye on the ballot boxes, folks!!!!
