Since reducing taxes for the folks who own businesses, and/or own lots of stock, and/or are entrepreneurs, and/or are very rich, stimulates the economy, creates jobs, and makes it possible for the rest of us to survive, the only intelligent tax policy is to not tax the rich.

Since we'll still need some money to run the country, and the Chinese are getting a little touchy about us always touching them up for loans, we'll just have to get the money we need by taxing the non-rich.

It's a small price to pay, after all, 'They' do it all 'Just for Us'.

The winds of change are sweeping wild and free across the US. The Kennedy family has even come out saying Obama is reminiscent of JFK. Ted Kennedy, the liberal lion we all love, will be appearing with Caroline and Obama across the west and up through the northeast. This is a crushing blow to the Clinton camp who have played their campaign on fears and division.

I guess the race-baiting, divisive, angry, hateful, Mark Penn controlled, cold and calculating Clinton campaign has been exposed for what they are. This is a great time for hope and change. We ain't seen nothing this exiting in years. I urge you all to do what you can to insure Barack Obama is the next President.

kind of eerie how similar rfk's last speech, in california, is to the one obama gave last night. i know it's kinda unhip for those of us on the left to say it, but holy christ i pray obama's secret service do a better job than bobby's did.

2) Then shift the tax burden to the poor and middle class.

3) Then use the increased tax burden on the poor and middle class to pay for wars to protect the interests of the super rich and the corporations.

4) Then cut the domestic programs we can no longer afford that benefit the poor and middle class due to the resulting deficit caused by these upper class tax cuts and wars.

What the right-wing faction of Israel have in store for the USA, courtesy of McCain, Lieberman, and Hillary (see my post at #2 above and follow the links for corroboration):

We must coordinate independent strike with US, prepare for Iranian response - Brigadier General Oded Tira.

President Bush lacks the political power to attack Iran. As an American strike in Iran is essential for our existence, we must help him pave the way by lobbying the Democratic Party (which is conducting itself foolishly) and US newspaper editors. We need to do this in order to turn the Iranian issue to a bipartisan one and unrelated to the Iraq failure.

We must turn to Hillary Clinton and other potential presidential candidates in the Democratic Party so that they publicly support immediate action by Bush against Iran. We should also approach European countries so that they support American actions in Iran, so that Bush will not be isolated in the international arena again.

Hillary is a tool of Israel. I know some Israeli supporters were mad at Obama last year for not being forceful enough in his support - that makes me like him even more. I wish Israel would just go away and in that Washington, DC wouldn't be Israeli occupied territory anymore. Israel is using South African apartied and it's about time we had an American government that told Israel what to do with their lobby money.

I've thought about it a great deal. I remember my father telling stories about how much hope he felt in JFK only to have that dashed. Then when Bobby came up he was filled with joy. Here was a man that could bring real change only to have him shot down - in California - at a hotel. We are now going into California. Obama will be in the middle of two Kennedy's on stage (caroline and ted). He will be at a debate their and presumably staying at a hotel.

Yea, wow - let's hope he makes it through. When you challenge the establishment things end badly.

Don't worry, you have choices. For $500,000, KBR will build a 'Satellite Defense Shield' over your home; for $25,000/day, Blackwater will station Thugs with nuclear-armed Stingers around your home to shoot down any falling satellites; or in return for buying a 'love gift' of a 'collectible 'Elect Huckabee' campaign button' for $25, Mike will pray for you.

. . .

i wouldn't doubt the clinton team IS spreading that "obama's a muslim" crap. we already know they play dirty. they've been caught planting questions in audiences more than once and bill's jesse jackson comments were as blatantly race-baiting as it gets.

obama's a christian, has been going to the same church, where he was married, for over twenty years. and we can certainly judge by his actions he's more a true christian than any neocon warmonger, and hillary clinton, for that matter.

so, here are some things to keep team clintonista busy for a while:

why won't the mena, arkansas rumors go away? and what's with "the clinton chronicles"?

why does bubba think torture's okay?

what will you do if the right convinces large numbers of americans the huma abedin rumors are true, as they are already working hard to do?

why are the clintons so secretive about their library?

what's the deal with all of clinton's pardons?

why do the clintons run with lowlifes like norman hsu?

why is bill keeping hillary's white house papers under wraps, if she believes in transparency in government?

If you give tax cuts to businesses they use that money to grow and expand there business which leads to more jobs which leads to more consumer spending which helps the economy.
There was an article on Fox Sports that Shaq O'Neill paid 15.4 million dollars in taxes last year, that more than anyone on this site pays combine there whole life. So why doesn't he get a tax break since he's the one thats pay the most taxes? Rich people pay taxes, poor people don't ! Certain rich people pay taxes. Sports' stars' salaries are easy enough for the IRA to check, so of course they pay taxes. Contrast that with an American born CEO of an international company whose income is generated partially from stock incentive schemes that allow him to make a killing in shares of wholly owned subsidiaries in other markets. Even more difficult is the indivual, wealthy private investor who invests in the international marketplace through a network of private corporations, many of which are incorporated in foreign jurisdictions (like ... say ... the Caymans).

I agree that taxing the rich is not the answer (on its own). However, increasing taxes on everyone and reducing spending so that we can begin to pay of the national debt would be a good place to start. Of course, reducing spending really means leaving Iraq as soon as reasonably possible, since we cannot afford to stay.

NO, you are! Just because Shaq O’Neill doesn't know the loopholes that would decrease his taxes to zero, that is not a good example. But anyway here is the link to wikipedia that pretty much shows each of you who pays the taxes in this country, the individual who said the rich get a tax break and shift the burden to the middle class and poor just knows know what he/she is talking about.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxation_in_the_United_States

PS. You don't think Shaq has a high priced account that tried to find him every loop whole in the book but still pays $15.4 mil?? think again..

I have always been successful and self educated but today the younger genneration doesn't have the same opportunties thay I had. Update yourself to the 21st century. Many can't even afford the education that I have gotten from life experience.

Moreover, if you extend unemployment benefits it takes away the incentive for people to get a job, seen it happen a few times!!

As much as i like Shaq what he makes for playing a game is obscene. Poor people don't pay taxes? Do you walk with that brain?

mike's picture

To whom it may concern,

I would like to know how a predominantly Christian nation and a democratic nation can punish a movie star for a DWI, an NFL quarterback for dog fighting and a president for a sexual indiscretion but it can't hold an administration accountable for going to war under false pretenses.

The war has resulted in more than 3,800 American soldiers deaths and more than 60,000 wounded. In addition, it has destroyed the infrastructure of Iraq. The healthcare system is on the verge of collapse, the education system is running at about a third of what it was before the war. There is less power than before the war and the list goes on.

We have created about 4 million refugees in Iraq, anywhere for 150,000 to about 1 million Iraqis have died due to our war there (depending on which study you look at- mostly innocent civilians) and more than 1 million wounded Iraqis (many of whom will die due to the destroyed healthcare system- about 1/3 of the dead and wounded are children.)

How can we as a democratic nation and a Christian nation say we are pro-family and destroy millions of families in Iraq and how we can say we are pro-life but kill 100,000s of thousands Iraqis and destroy any resemblance of a normal life for millions.

We have spent more than $500 billion as a nation on the war in Iraq and it will be in the trillions of dollars before it is over. We have created more terrorists and Afghanistan is worse now than it was 4 years ago. The dreaded Osama Bin Laden also is still on the loose.

We have shelved the Geneva Convention, spied on our own people without going to the FISA courts, created secret prisons and allowed torture. This as a predoninantly christian nation and democratic nation. What kind of bright and shinning light are we to the world?

How can it be that we have not held those responsible for this accountable? No large scale investigations in the conduct of the war and no articles of impeachment. Our leaders (some) have committed crimes against peace. Truly Supreme Court Judge Robert Jackson who helped come up with the Principals of Nuremberg is turning is his grave. We as a country have allowed our leaders to do this..

How is it that we as a nation have squandered or vast resources and wealth on a politics of fear and war? That are only options are war to spread democracy or do it down the barrel of a gun.

If you look at the statistics we as a nation have killed more innocent civilians in going to war in Iraq (collateral damage and inadequate administration of the country post invasion) than the terrorists have worldwide for the last 10 years. Who should the world be more afraid of?

I have served in war and I am not proud to be an American in the climate we have created in the world. If we let those off who did this what will prevent others from bringing our country down the same path. What kind of legacy are we leaving our children and grandchildren?

What kind of Christian and democratic nation allows this and doesn't hold those responsible who do this? Can you tell me? I really want to know! I want to know especially every day when I see the news and see an American die or an American is wounded or Iraqis die especially the children. Can you tell me?

If the government lowers the corporate tax more jobs will be generated, thus more taxes collected. The consumer will be screwed because corporations will still seek out overseas workers and continue to give themselves huge salaries, bonuses and perks.

If the government raises corporate tax it will be passed to the consumer.

#10 Drew 'Hey who here is against REAL ID???'

Seems like most everybody is against a national ID card, so what do they do? They take a document that certifies that the bearer is qualified to drive a motor vehicle (class as indicated) on the nation's highways, and promote it to the status of a national ID card, to be used for almost anything and everything. To buy cigarettes and liquor, to get into x-rated movies, to apply for Social Security, to board airplanes. You name it, they'll use the DL.

So why don't they then issue two types of IDs besides the DL and ID (for non-drivers in CA) they do now? A blue one to those who proved citizenship at application time, and a red one for those who didn't? A red ID can subsequently be reissued in blue upon proof of citizenship for a nominal fee.

All this fighting over ID cards is just simply ridiculous

So why doesn't he get a tax break since he's the one thats pay the most taxes? Rich people pay taxes, poor people don't ! Moreover, if you extend unemployment benefits it takes away the incentive for people to get a job, seen it happen a few times!!

Yeah, If Shaquille had to pay another $5 million in taxes, I'm sure it would drain all his incentive away to want to continue to earn a huge paycheck, and he would just take a job flipping burgers at Mickey D's. As far as tax cuts for the multinational corporations, so they can re-invest in the economy, they're going to take that tax cut and go where they get the best return on their investment. And its not in the U. S.

don't be naive senator obama -and always maintain a sober and physically fit team.

No, you're not the only one this has occured to.

When you challenge the establishment things end badly.

after watching "bobby" last night, i went to wikipedia to see what the entry was like for rfk's assassination. if you've seen the movie, you know it doesn't delve into the conspiratorial aspects at all, but, boy, was i a bit surprised to see how much evidence of a broader conspiracy has come out in the last 9 months. i recommend anyone interested in this sort of stuff check out the wiki link i posted above.

and, no, i'm not intending to open up a flame war, although it's always seemed a bit strange to me that a site calling itself "crooks and liars" would be occasionally squeamish about allowing discussion of conspiracy theory, since 1) a conspiracy is defined as two or more people scheming to hatch a plot and 2) anyone trying to solve a crime, be it an f.b.i. agent or your local private detective literally HAS to be a conspiracy theorist to solve a crime.

budda, I was born in Israel and I feel the same way you do. Right-wing pro-war Israelis are still pissed at Obama. They are also the ones that support the war crime of Israeli apartheid. I just luuuuv the progressive left here. Screech, yell, scream about Bush, then lick his ass and more when it comes to the barbarism that Israel visits upon Palestinians.

thank you for bringing your perspective, as a citizen by birth, i wish more people could see the vile israeli government for what they are

I wish budda and others could see the vile Palestinian terrorists who blow up busloads of Israeli citizens for what they are.
I wish budda and others could see the vile anti Israeli and anti-Semitic Arab schools for what they are.
I wish budda and others could see the vile Egyptian police who will not allow Palestinians into their country for what they are.

i wish oncall would read "the star-bellied sneetches" by dr. seuss.

And when the politicians' corporate owners, who underwrite campaigns, start whining, politicians develop "stimulus" schemes using the fear of layoffs, foreclosures and wage cuts to justify tax cuts for those doing the laying off, foreclosing and wage cutting.

Only to those invested in America's shining new era of Corporatism does that make any flipping sense.

Pertinent question:
Do we really need to give a bailout to companies that just awarded $39 billion in bonuses?

Juxtaposed with Saint McCain saying:
We do not need to expand unemployment benefits and food stamps to help workers.

Priceless

And take note of the fact that this is not just a case of Republicans hating poor people and that in fact it's been one of the more shining examples of "bipartisanship" that we've seen so far. Not only do the Republicans hate you, apparently the Democrats don't like your ass much either.

amen, orangutan. after obama's s.c. victory speech, i browsed some rightwing sites, like freerepublic, and i can tell you, they're far more concerned about facing obama than clinton. heck, to my amazement, some freepers even begrudgingly acknowledge they respect obama and find him inspiring, even if they don't agree with him on policy.

no more bushes, no more clintons, no more divisive damn dynasties. this is america, we can do a LOT better.

If the current percentage is let's say 60 - 40% and new votes come in at the same rate 60 - 40% the percentage remains the same. The more votes that have already been cast the more difference in new votes is needed to affect a change of the total percentage

Don't do that. You're ruining someone's cherished Diebold fantasy by introducing the concept of math.
