We love Shakespeare's Sister because she writes posts like this:
Sometimes I just close my eyes and pretend that the media still plays a useful role in the republic, the Democrats are a genuine and effective opposite party, our government isn't being sold piecemeal to corporations, our elections are fair, we've got universal healthcare, and Al Gore is really our president.
And sometimes I just close my eyes and pretend I'm making out with Al Gore.
But mostly the president thing.
Open Thread below....

Well he's not actually my type as far as sexual fantasy goes but the President dream was nice.
.
Bill Clinton also has a dream -- ‘Affirmative Action’ for Campaign: ‘Amend It, Don’t End It’
Damn you, Peter G. - you're in my box!
Frist @ 4:
It is the sort of playground I prefer.
Mmm, not much of a sex symbol as far as I'm concerned, but would have made a damned good president. *sigh*
Half our children are left behind. Oil dealers claim they need to price-gouge Americans to stay in business. Bush is willing to destroy the environment to appease anti-immigrant Republicans. Global warming might have killed the mammoth.
I hate to be a downer about this, but no matter how many keynote presentations he goes around giving, Al Gore can not erase the fact that:
a) He is a founding member of the DLC.
b) During his tenure as a VP, the US of A was the only major industrialized Western Power which did not ratify the Kyoto Protocol.
c) He ran a weak ass campaign against a certified retard like Bush, with an asshole like Lieberman in his ticket.
I did not care much for him in 2000, and I don't care much for him now... sorry.
Lord of the flys!
I really don't want to have sex with Al Gore. Or Tipper.
al's a good guy.
but he wouldn't stand and fight when it mattered most.
remember "fahrenheit 9/11", where he's banging the gavel, not letting any of those representatives object to the count?
like i said, al's a good guy (and a terrific environmentalist) but a political fighter he ain't.
at least he wasn't when america really needed him to be.
Tyler: You forgot to add that his wife started the "Let's appeal to conservatives by rallying against entertainment with 'questionable content'" movement continued by Lieberman and Hillary.
The primary reason we have NAFTA - and a destroyed industrial base - is the salesmanship of Al Gore.

I missed that night but I read the whole thread and frankly laughed parts of my anatomy off. As long as we're a little more oblique and give an occasional blast of Febreze (political commentary scent) to clear the air of eau de locker room I'm sure we'll escape exile. P2B took his sitemonitor spanking with his usual good humor. Of course this only takes place on the late night open thread so I'm sure the SM will cut us a little slack.
hey everybody...
dems to gore: S.O.S.!!
we're too scared to get behind obama, draw a line in the sand re: iraq, and challenge mr. magoo!
help, southern white wiseman, help, help, help!!
Too late now but Gore should have insisted on a complete revote for the state of Florida and maybe, just maybe, we would not have gotten the last 8 years of whatever history is going to name this horrible Bush tenure. The media will back McCain no matter what since he represents their corporate interests and the people be damned. And if the dems were truly serious, they would have called for impeachment right after the 2006 election instead of playing nice with the Bushies. The whole group needs to go particularly Pelosi, Reid, Schumer (who along with Feinstein shoved Mukasey down our throats) and all those Repugs who lined up like true soldiers and gave Bush whatever he demanded. This congress has let the entire nation down for political purposes and considering what we are facing this is a wholesale crime. And as much as I liked Gore, he let us down too.

I don't think exclusion is appropriate, maybe a suspension?
The future of the U.S looks gloomy with Hillary and Obama. I have stopped watching news. I suppose Al Gore and Edwards would create a sensation during 2008 election.

I think that will be for the sitemonitors to determine. It would be regrettable if any poster of however long standing could force other posters off site when the offending poster, in this case P2B, suitably modifies their behavior. I would miss his wicked sense of humor and depth of cultural knowledge. There's been many a light hearted thread that's been criticized by concern trolls for not providing sufficient outrage. I, for one, cannot live on a perpetual diet of outrage. If we need to alter the sometimes outrageous tone in deference to popular sensibilities then we do so. If that is not sufficient then I too would leave.

You've got to be kidding me! Gore is another DNC-Pelosi sellout. You know, the kind Teddy warned us about--you remember, we don't need two Republican parties. Don't be fooled by his pseudo-Populist global warming schtick. The same media that sold you Iraq War #'s 1 &2 is going to be bought to be used to sell you Global Baloney Warming starring Al Gore. Don't fall for it. Gore is a LOSER. He gave us the past seven years+ of the Bush Kleptocracy and now in true fascist fashion, he presents himself as the problem solver of the problem he mostly created.

What a joke!!
So rumour has it that the emperor of the Man Made Global Warming myth is going to parachute into the Dems and save them, with a 10 million person Green Army in tow and a $300 million pre-presidential
propagandaadvertising campaign to launch it all. The man, who promotes carbon credits -- can you say invented by Enron? -- is going to not only be the best president America ever had, but is going to give all his democrat sycophants wet dreams, male or female, after all these days anything goes, right? (Hope I don't fall foul to the impeding hate laws. Who needs the first amendment anyway, right?)We are now moving into a period of global cooling -- hence the shift to climate change terminology -- which even the IPCC acknowledges. The MMGW myth would be totally destroyed if there was a free and fair press in this country, but the reality is that it goes against the social engineering agenda being advanced in North America now, so all we hear is the chicken little shills. But the truth has a way of rising to the surface and the ability to set us free and more and more people are waking up to this fraud. You have to want to see the truth, though, or the elusive obvious will be invisible to you.
This country with its torture prisons, police state, illegal wars and fanatical party liners is starting to look more and more like Communist China every day. Sorry, that's not quite true, China hasn't engaged in any illegal wars lately. Yes, some of you will bring up Tibet, true enough, but the silence coming from the US government for the most part indicates to me that the US government realizes they don't have a moral leg to stand on.
All I have to say to the likes of you is wake the hell up. I too used to be under the illusion that Al Gore was a regular guy, but he is as much a globalist shill as any of the rest of them. Now that the war on terror has fallen out of fashion, the war against everyone to save the planet that has to be used to justify the unfolding fascist nanny state. He's as full of his own ego and hubris as the rest of the pseudo presidential candidates and he is playing the useful idiots like you with a vengeance. The globalists are looking to transform this country so profoundly that you won't even recognize it. And you with your mindless fanaticism and blind allegiance are aiding and abetting them.
First verse of a little song I wrote:
Well you know the world is in trouble
And you said you'd do your part
And though the task ahead of us is daunting
There's one place we can start
I know this comes as a bit of a shock
And I'm sorry sir it's true
In order to save the Polar Bear
We're gonna have to kill you....

Ron @ 77:
Obviously someone is, quite a few people actually. Just google Senior Democrats mull Al Gore's nomination and you will run into dozens of hits, and this article was only released a few days ago.
And $300 million spent on publicity while professing to have no interest in the nomination is a great deal of press. Would position him nicely if the nomination process drags on too long. Saving the party and all that.
In the words of Franklin Roosevelt, in politics, there are no accidents. Methinks perspectives floated here and elsewhere touting Al Gore's presidentialness are trial balloons.
And God help us all if they are.
Annie @ 80:
Annie, it was Kerry that was swiftboated. Gore just had the election stolen from by the SCOTUSA.
Children of the future will be reading about Al Gore as a great American in our nation's history. It makes me sick to think about what could have (should have) been with him as our president.
Annie's right Ron.Al Gore ran an awful campaign, and he did pick Lieberman(for what reason I don't know and never will) but it was Kerry and the Swifties.
Ron @ 84:
I stand corrected - Thank you.
It can be so hard to tell the difference between the middle of the road 'centrist' candidates.
And the Lieberman thing...
Shows good judgement?
Let me say again, I like Gore.
He would probably have been better than this criminal bush - But hell who wouldn't be?
Not smart enough to win I guess? Or did he end up realizing he didn't really want it? He capitulated Sooooooo fast.
Imagine someone who respects me stopping by for a moment and seeing this:
"7 xoites hussein depends the constitution Says:
Greetings, Peter G. A bunch of us are talking about voting 2b off the island for dragging down the quality of discourse here. What’s your opinion?"
and then leaving never to read the rest of this thread.
I am so angry right now.
An April Fools' joke does not include dragging someone else into it or damaging their reputation. That is not a joke, that is somethong beyond reason. If i have a problem with a poster (with this exception) i keep my comments directed at them. I do not try to form a committe to go on a witch hunt.
2b is young and immature, most of the time he can be a lot of fun, but he has to understand the limits of behavior here. There are certain things we have to respect here and the highest of all these is each other.
I only want the most obnoxious of people to be banned from this site. These would include people who advocate racism and murder.

I mean the most 'traction the Dems get is by complaing from the right - Like they don't have enough body armour - Instead of, they don't have a legal, moral, humanitarian reason TO BE THERE. So don't stop the war, complain that NOT ENOUGH MONEY is being used...
It is sad that the Dems don't seem to have an agenda.
They have become so centrist as to be irrelivent. They hardly slow or hinder our decline.
How quick will we get a single payer heath care program is either Obama or Clinton is elected?
Bush has left everything in ruins - I think they will be busy.

I would reckon a guess that the CPA was run along the lines of the 60s British Metropolitan Police Obscene Publications Squad,
theres no wikipedia article on this sorry chapter in London's policing but it smells the same.
Fall of the Dirty Squad
Basically EVERY police officer (detective) that went through the Met's OPS was corrupted either directly or indirectly by turning a blind eye.
They were in the pockets of the London gangsters and turned blind eyes and protected the favourites for cash, eliminating competition etc.
That house of cards came crashing down in 1972.
It would be interesting if the financial records of the CPA staff and connected people was tabulated and traced.
The style of corruption, the scale of the missing money and the extent of the possible spiders web is the same.

I have a problem with what the federal government wants to do to revamp the way it oversees the banking industry namely give more power of oversight to the federal reserve and get rid of state oversight I seem to recall that it was californis that pursued major credit card charges for late fees generated by shady practices ( ok down right criminial) where the federal was looking the other way and only AFTER california did all the leg work did the fed take over and crow about what a fine job it ( the fed) did to look out for the consumer. Also putting all that power in one place would be a disaster especially if we get another regime like we have now where no wrong is to grave to be overlooked by the cronies that will be put in place.
We need strong stae oversight not some appointee that got his job by kissing up.
The FEd reserve isn't even part of the government just bankers who are the problem

Whether you are a hard core Old energy buffoon or a Denier...the clock is ticking not only on the biosphere of Earth...but on your finite, polluting, disgusting old energy source....
And don't bring up the Artic...if we stay on Oil...the planet is doomed...so before you go nuts for the '400 billion possible barrels'...remember you can't make more air or another planet....

House Panel Launches Probe: Did FBI Ignore Threats To Jail Black Voters? - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/art-levine/house-panel-launches-prob_b_942...
At recent hearings before a House Judiciary subcommittee, new revelations emerged about how the DoJ failed to investigate illegal mailers sent to African-Americans threatening criminal punishment if they registered to vote through a community reform group called ACORN. The House Judiciary Committee is launching a preliminary inquiry into the questionable way that the FBI office in Dallas, after consulting with the Justice Dept, decided not to investigate the intimidating flier targeting Democratic-leaning blacks in a 2006 legislative race.

Bill Earls: Joe Lieberman's Hypocrisy and the Hartford Courant's Irony - http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/contributors/1590
Lieberman's as independent as a tumor. And about as useful. The war itself is the cancer. In five long years, it has drained our treasury, battered our economy, worsened our reputation, seriously damaged our military -- equipment destroyed, recruit quality slipping badly, losing valuable men and women every day -- and people such as Lieberman, maybe especially Lieberman, are its enablers.

*****Could the Republicans Pick the Democratic Nominee? — The Untold Story of How the GOP Rigged Florida and Michigan - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/wayne-barrett/could-the-republicans-pic_b_...
Complex article: What started out years ago as Howard Dean’s 50-state organizing strategy for the national party now looks like a 48-state electoral one. Michigan and Florida could become the Ralph Nader of 2000, the great regret that delivers the country once again to four years of darkness.

Embarrassed U.S. Starts to Disown Basra Operation - http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=41804
The Bush administrations suggestions that it was al-Maliki who miscalculated in Basra are clearly false. No significant Iraqi military action can be planned without a range of military support functions being undertaken by the U.S. command.

Mrs. Toes tells me to get over what happened in 2000 in Florida and how our democracy was stolen out from under us.
Never. I will never forget.
Toes @ 134:
Good, because it looks like Clinton is gonna try to do the same thing with the nomination. People should not let it happen again.....
chris @ 44:
I had a dream that Chris got educated and stopped parroting tired GOP talking points...but alas...twas only a dream.
Did Clinton/Gore sign Kyoto? And why did Gore pick Lieberman as a VP?
(go bama)
I'm so old, I remember when liberals HATED Al Gore.
Life is truly perverse.
Hieronymus Braintree @ 138:
I'm so old, I fart dust...
Hieronymus Braintree @ 138:
some still do :-)
though for me, hate is a bit strong..... but i find him more appropriately compared to angelina joline than say, a statesman like russ feingold..... it sometimes baffles me that the media treats him more like a statesman than a celebrity....
What liberal hates Al Gore? Name these nameless people, or do they not exist?
And are statesmen not celebrities in our circle?
I muchly enjoyed Rachel Maddow slamming Scarborough yesterday on Gregory's Race98. Scarborough was visibly annoyed. I don't think they like each other. EG Robinson finished him off

seele @ 142:
yeah, my only point was that gore, britney spears and angelina joline, is a more homogenous grouping than gore, feingold and reid...
whatever happened, but gore somehow jumped the shark from the one group into the other.....sometimes his adulating fans seem to forget that....
myself i say screw gore! he won the 2000 election and pounded it away with his gavel, as for kerry the bastard looked so relieved that diebold stoled 2004 he nearly crapped his shorts throwing in the towel , im tired of the democrats running fricking winners who are to god damnd lazy to stand up and fight , tired of raising my hopes up only to take it in the hump by repigs thru crooked means, its time to unsheath the bayonets and stick the repigs in the guts, if we have to kickem in the nuts ,i say git to it, and when will we get candidates who arent more concerned with israels exsistence then our own? when ever i hear a politician spouting that crap i know thier owned by the corporations, israels done nothing for america to deserve 50 billions of our tax dollars every year, im afraid the democratic partys become so infiltraited by the republicans that thiers only a small difference between them , words in speaches dont mean dick if thats all they are going to deliver for us!!!!!
Gore is a coward, and his fear of supporting either clinton or obama in the primary underscores why he will always only be a VP....
superdelegates should be leading people to their candidate....
those that refuse to choose now are just afraid, or have no faith in the party or the process...
ohio progressive (typical non-typical white person) @ 147:

And now, just today, Obama is saying that he will definately consider Al Gore for a place in his cabinet. Oh my goodness, Al must just be beside himself with gratitude to the arrogant neophyte for even being considered worthy to serve with the great Obama. Certainly an Oscar and Nobel Peace Prize can't hold a candle to that.
Bluesage @ 155:
yeah, gore gave up on meaningful contribution to the party long ago....i agree w/you that gore is likely too arrogant and detached to accept such an honorable position in Obama's admin., but frankly, if he has any selfless good-of-the-people spirit in his soul remaining, i think he ought to....
but he won't...
too much fun hobnobbing with britney spears and angelina joline, and doing the whole hollywood thing...
who could blame him...
he's getting rich without having to pretend it's all for the people and the country....
