Well, average American eat up when you can! The economy is tanking, food prices rising, and the bottom of our economy is shaking beneath our feet. We are facing a total oblivian. People losing homes, tent cities cropping up, no jobs, no social security(at least for people my age), no medical insurance. Our future is not looking good. And now look at the goodies we can eat. Well, I'll stick to growing my vegetables in my garden and stock up on food. I hope to ride out this Pres. and his enablers. Maybe I will be stronger for it. Who knows?

An America MUST rid herself of this group of NeoCons. They and their connection to the RR have destroyed the country by manipulating the president without a brain. (sounds like a SciFi movie.)

High food prices cause Haitians to riot. Hillary's aide engages in free trade with Colombia behind her back.

BangkokBob, I wish it was that easy. My daughter lost her job and a friend lost her house in the same week. People bitch at me for being pessimistic, but, Damn it, I am pessimistic. The Neo-cons truly screwed up this country. And we will pay a terrible price. By focusing on religious issues, the entire government slipped into oblivian. No oversight, deregulation, we are at the mercy of Big Business and our overseas creditors. Pray.

Bill Maher was right about zero tolerance equaling zero thought.

Workers Get the Shaft, Voters Get the Double Talk from the Clinton Campaign. Clinton Defends Mark Penn's Talks With Columbia About a Trade Agreement She Claims to Opposes: "Today, the Clinton campaign was asked about the meeting, and a spokesman, Mo Elleithee, said that Mr. Penn’s work had nothing to do with the campaign and that he did not see any conflict or perception problem." And It Was No Coincidence that the Leader of Columbia Denounced Obama After Meeting With Penn, Which Indicates that It Was Not a Meeting Unassociated with the Clinton Campaign. 4/5

Mark Penn, Hillary's NAFTA Lies to Working Men and Women, Republicrats, and Penn's Negotiations with the Colombian Government on Trade Agreements Clinton Claims to Oppose. There's a Whopper of Deception Here that Directly Affects the Dinner Plates of Displaced Workers Far More than Sen. Clinton's Fabulist Tale About Sniper Fire in Tuzla. Feminists Should Note That Patty Solis Doyle Advised Hillary to Fire Penn, But Clinton Fired Doyle Instead.

'Change to Win, a group of unions endorsing Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), is calling on Mark Penn, senior strategist to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), to be removed from her presidential campaign
for meeting with the Colombian ambassador about a controversial trade agreement.' 4/5

Yeah, I retired from PG&E just about a few months after that fiasco. It started with Enron and spread throughout, they tried to blame PG&E but that finally got settled. I hope all those pricks have to give back their bonuse, wont happen, but it would be great.

i have absolutely no confidence in a liberal administration getting us out of the current economic crisis (which im sure will continue to get worse right up till the election)

i live in los angeles, a lib stronghold, and i have a client who has been in biz for 16 years, built his biz from scratch, was grossing 3mil per year and employed 50 people

then late last year, it was found that he was running a bakery/restaraunt on a site zoned only for retail

now keep in mind, la was already in the midst of a economic crisis, and losing a good biz would be bad for the already fractured tax base

so did the city council work with the guy? hell no

they pretty much fucked him, causing him to lose the biz, putting people out of work...and killing off one of my sources of income

im totally freaking

Ron, were you around for that massively deleted Open Thread last weekend(I think)? The one that was all locker roomy? Many good, long time commenters complained about the tone of that in the comments, and they named P2B as the ring leader. A few other commenters who chat with P2B regularly asked him to step back on Monday or Tuesday. So did a monitor. P2B seems to be taking some time off. I don't know if it's voluntary or not, but I like him and think he contributes to the community- for the most part(that deletion fest looked ugly).

Whoa, slow down there woodguy.

He might have been banned. But some people who are friendly with him chatted with him the other night, and he may have simply given himself a time out.

He's a good guy, imo, who may have heeded their advice. There was a day not too long ago when I chatted with him concerning his McList. He was posting long updates of the list on threads here- lists that hogged bandwidth that the site must pay for with real $$- and when I suggested he start his own page and link to it using the "homepage" feature (you know, the link in your name that turns your name blue?), he happily went out and started that page.

Like I said, he seems to be a good guy. I'll bet you a beer that he's in self-imposed exile.

Hey, I'd be willing to shell out for a Bemish or a Newcastle. You'd be gettin' off cheap if I won: I'm coming up on three years without a beer or whine, or booze, or anything that ends with the suffix "-bomb". And I tipped the bartenders well enough over the years that they comp me my Coke/Pepsi!

Wait a minute...I whine all of the time! Wine, wine, wine spo-de-o-dee...

There's no question he was banned. I was in on the thread when it happened. We we chatting on Sat. night and things got a little out of hand, you know how he likes double entendre repartee. Well, a few of us egged each other on and the site monitor, correctly I think, thought things were getting out of hand and put in a few choice comments.

Then on Tuesday (April Fool"s Day) he jokingly took X's name and started playing around with it, making comments about people taking a poll to see if he P2 H should be banned,. X came onto the thread and got totally pissed. The site monitor and P2b mutually agreed he'd take a time out. I think that may be when he started his own site

That's the way I remember it , although a few details may be fuzzy. My feeling is that P2b and the site monitor agreed that it would be best, but it wasn't a capital offense.

First- and I'm already hatin' myself for doing this- it's x-o-i-t-e-s(I think it's pronounced "zoyts", told to me by a mutual phone-friend).

I think P2B might have sock-puppeted(posted a handle that spoofed their names in this case- if I recall the SM's edit) a few of the people on that thread, xoites included. I've seen stuff like this before over the years, and that monitor seemed pretty nice, all things considered.

Earlier on that day I saw some commenters complaining about P2B by name- not too cool. I'm not going to be hypocritical on this point and name them, but for you and anyone else who might be reading this, if you've got a complaint about another commenter, write to the site monitors. I know that if I were in P2B's shoes I'd feel uneasy. Hell, I feel uneasy talking about this now, but I don't like reading wild speculation. People assume the worst. How do any of us know that P2B isn't recovering from a tonsilectomy? Taking a sabbatical in a monastery? Writing the Great American Novel? Coming out of the bullpen for the Tigers....wait, that is assuming the worst.

Read my post @ 60. I think too much is being made of this. X was pissed, though, and I can't recall any posts by her since. She didn't take kindly to P2b using her name. He's a joker, though, and I have no doubt he meant no harm.

Wait, that's just asking him to cool off. When I was a brash young whippersnapper a monitor asked me suggested that I take some time off...I did, all was good afterwards. I know a few people who were banned at some point. When you're banned, you can't post a comment at all. Ever been moderated? The screen tells you that your comment is awaiting moderation. I assume someone looks at it before they allow your comment to post. It's happened to me both here- a long time ago- and at HuffPo.

But, according to those I know who have been banned, when you attempt to submit your comment nothing happens. It just doesn't appear. But this can happen when your comment gets caught in the spam filter. That's happened to me, and the SM has found the comment and posted it.

Thing is, unless you're P2B, or you're someone who's spoken to him lately, you can only speculate that he's banned. Speculation ain't proof, however.

And I'm pretty sure he's had the site for a few weeks.

And I hope he comes back, because he's got friends here who obviously miss him.

I talk about this alot, but what we've got here is a community. Not everyone agrees with everyone else about everything, but that's just life. Or the Democratic Party. But we've got a good way to build both friendships and networks that might help save the world some day. I hope that everyone learns a little something from this incident.

I've only been commenting a few years at websites like this, so I think we're talking semantics. I'll say it again. P2b and the site monitor ageed MUTUALLY that he would take a week off. He will be back in probably 4 or 5 days. These are the terms that P2b and the site monitor BOTH agreed upon. I was there on Saturday night, I was there on Tuesday. That's the way it happened. Don't take it too seriously. He'll be back soon, I'm sure.

In fact, say hello to him when he returns. I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, don't have a lap top, so I'll only check in sporadically. I'd appreciate it if someone could say hi to him for me. Thanks.

You may now enjoy these tasty fried treats knowing the pharmaceutical industry is there for you. Gone are the days of counting on lent to control our lipids and body mass.
A lifetime of Statin therapy will scour those Oreos from your blood chemistry, give us the thrill of treating your preventable disease and get the dividend checks to our shareholders in a timely fashion.
This reasonable approach will ensure the continued robust sales of both the Oreo and our fine line of medications.

disclaimer,
Some side effects could include extreme poverty, false hope, enabling bad behaviour, further corporate control of health care issues, spending hours waiting for your turn at the blood analysis lab, much to frequent contact with your doctor, getting talked down to by pharmacists and in some cases actually chocking to death on huge fucking pills.

P2BH had his mcBlog for a few weeks now, it's not new. his double-entendre and his pleasant-but-incisive invective has set off alarms. not too many can textually shred a moron with P2BH's tremendous dexterity. it's not so much a flaming as an incineration. I'm an admirer of P2BH and XDtC. but that's just me.

BTW, how far back is that time-out agreement? date/time of specific thread would be nice.

i have absolutely no confidence in a liberal administration getting us out of the current economic crisis (which im sure will continue to get worse right up till the election)

i live in los angeles, a lib stronghold, and i have a client who has been in biz for 16 years, built his biz from scratch, was grossing 3mil per year and employed 50 people

then late last year, it was found that he was running a bakery/restaraunt on a site zoned only for retail

now keep in mind, la was already in the midst of a economic crisis, and losing a good biz would be bad for the already fractured tax base

so did the city council work with the guy? hell no

they pretty much fucked him, causing him to lose the biz, putting people out of work...and killing off one of my sources of income

im totally freaking

corporatists cannot by definition be liberals. feinstein is a booshbot dem whose hubby is a war profiteer, being a Dem by label doesn't mean she was ever a liberal. The people at the top don't want any middle anything! no middle class, no middle management, no mid-size business. if it can grow, they want to kill it.

that's booshonomics in a nutshell. nothing that can grow can be allowed to survive, especially your hopes.

"that’s booshonomics in a nutshell. nothing that can grow can be allowed to survive, especially your hopes."

Time to renew that Prozac Rx, Bascombe. That is not boosh economics. Scant details that there are, the business broke the law. Letting the company skate by because it employs people and pays taxes is no excuse to break a law. You are arguing exactly the opposite of how a liberal would view this situation, except for the fact you blame Bush- there you are consistent.

Apply your same logic to Enron. Should they have been allowed to be deceitful because them employed thousands of middle class employees and paid boatloads of taxes? Maybe the SEC should've worked with them. Oh, but they're big business- so no middle managers, no middle class people involved there, right, no suppliers dependent on Enron who could be mid-size businesses?

Corporatists by definition cannot be liberals? Really? Fascinating concept to ponder as I start my day.

Snopes is like Mythbusters and other helpful informative sources, its not what they say its how they say it.
Or subtle methods of discrediting alt technologies, like the compressed air sketch they did, knocking off a cylinders valve (on a boat) and using that to discredit compressed air vehicles. Nice try Mythbusters.
Heres some air powered vehicles that work Tata Motors
Tata now owns the British car industry, India's industrial revolution was kicked started by Britain in the 19thc and 20th C, now they are returning the favour, some interesting things might come about now if the various factories and design offices work together. Too long has the UKs car designers been hamstrung by very short sighted bean counters not willing to take risks.

...

Outsourcing avoid many legal and morality problems, inhouse lawyers tend to object in writing about unlawful actions, outside contractors only care about the money.
Outsourcing in government (which follows modern business practices in general) allows incompetent managers to avoid doing much actual work and just tick a box or pick up a phone and magical things happen, in the past with real bosses and real inhouse teams of people doing work and interacting the managers had to manage people and all the problems people create.
Its laziness basically.

About Ms. Maddow... the first time I remember seeing her on the air was as a "guest LIBERAL/LESBIAN" on MSNBC with that Whack-Job with The Bow Tie... I'm sure her presence there was simply to show what a liberal-minded-and-balanced host Tucker Carlson thought himself to be. The IRONIC part about that is that Carlson really DID accomplish a GREAT THING for the liberal/progressive movement of the world. And THAT would be exposing Rachel Maddow to a larger audience.

She is, by far, the brightest light bulb in the room... and I hope her broadcast career continues on the rise that she has been riding for the last year.

The Colombian government is trying to secure congressional passage of the agreement signed in 2006 by Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and the Bush administration.

According to Justice Department filings, Colombia agreed last year to pay Burson-Marsteller $300,000 to help "educate members of the U.S. Congress and other audiences" about the trade deal and secure continued U.S. funding for the $5 billion anti-narcotics program Plan Colombia.

Ah government sleaze in action, explains it all. Wonder who will be the lucky recipients of that $300,000 minus the fees and expenses. Plus the $5 billion flowing the other way into pockets in Columbia.

People would notice if the microcode in CPUs was iffy, there are enough designers, engineers and independent hacker types very keen on nosing into the newest latest greatest cores. The silicon topography would look wrong for a start.
And everything is made everywhere anyway, theres only x number of silicon Fabs around the world, used by everybody for batches of chips, certain ones are purely for Intel or the largest production die makers, but most do work for anybody, so it has to be open.

In the voting machine scandals with the various companies it was purely bad/suspect/tweaked code and closed source (to hide errors and methodology!), plus a possible designed to be !!!! open system for hacking, that and the fact that they used two plain machine screws to secure a card slot cover, if one photograph I saw of a voting scanner is correct and typical.

lots of people do the destructive reverse engineering, just that they never admit it in public, RE to be fully legal has to be clean room and working backwards from specs.
I woundnt worry about microcode on the silicon affecting the results, thats too hard to do reliably esp with multiple sourcing of CPUs and the levels of code differences C++/compiled/assembler/run time mc, its easier for them to have the high level code compromised and the results tweakable by memory cards with runnable code modules, that was shown to be the case in court and other places, in theory and tests, real life results compared to exits polls showed very suspicious anomolies, exit poll and votes swapped, and weird bumps and missing votes in some districts.

Corporatists are by nature elitist, if you're talking about the top tier.

It doesn't necessarily included those who find employment at the lower levels, nor those that meritocracy can be legitimately claimed.

However, liberalism can seem more democratic, but one must remember that IQ testing and forced sterilization of the insane and retarded in the early 20th century were largely seen as being from liberal ivory towers.

However, with the use of corporations we must be careful. In some states, a small family owned operation can be considered a corporation as long as they register as such and follow the necessary rules and appointment of officers. The average corporation of Adam Smith's day was often just a handful of friends pooling their money into a business they might otherwise not afford, and protecting themselves individually from legal claims against their business interests.

But when you get into public issuance of stocks and bonds, international corporations and especially transnational economics, regionalism and world trade organizations you're getting into a whole new ball of wax.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll go clean out my ears.
