WASHINGTON - Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr launched a Libertarian Party presidential bid Monday, saying voters are hungry for an alternative to the status quo who would dramatically cut the federal government.
His candidacy throws a wild card into the White House race that many believe could peel away votes from Republican Sen. John McCain given the candidates' similar positions on fiscal policy.
Barr, who has hired Ross Perot's former campaign manager, acknowledged that some Republicans have tried to discourage him from running. But he said he's getting in the race to win, not to play spoiler or to make a point.
"I've heard from Americans from all walks of life ... they want a choice," he said at a news conference in Washington. "They believe that America has more and better to offer than what the current political situation is serving up to us."
Barr first must win the Libertarian nomination at the party's national convention that begins May 22. Party officials consider him a front-runner thanks to the national profile he developed as a Georgia congressman from 1995 to 2003.
If he wins the White House, he said he would immediately freeze discretionary spending in Washington. He also would begin withdrawing troops from Iraq and consider slashing spending at federal agencies such as the departments of education and commerce — as well as at overseas military bases.

"This is a country that was damned by the Americans the moment they stepped on our soil"
As with any difficulty now, many Iraqis believe that the occupation forces want it this way.
"It is obvious that the prices are up and life is difficult in this city and all of Iraq because it has been so planned," Sheikh Ala'in, a cleric in Fallujah told IPS. "Occupation planners designed this poverty in order to make Iraqis work for them as policemen and spies. Iraq is floating on a lake of oil, but there is no gas to run water pumps. What an irony."
Whatever the reason, residents simply want relief. "We just want our lives back," said a college student who gave her name only as Nada. "We want to eat, buy clothes, get proper education and breathe pure air. No thanks to Americans for their effort to bring us democracy that killed half of us by their bombs and is now apparently killing the other half by starvation. Can you pass this message to the American people for us?"

It's very hard to find the true these days.
You could say corporatist, fascist media, but it might confuse the issue even more. What we do know, it is propaganda.
Only if Arnold Schwartzeneger (sic) can be destroyed. :)
Can we destroy a Gov. of Cal? We are in deep shit.
We can always elect him prezdent and then hope alzheimer's affects his brain tissue.
Naw, we already tried that, then they let the SCOTUS appoint someone that had less intelligence than someone that lost his mind. Let's see if we can get a real intelligent person elected. I know, how about that new black guy. I think his name is Obama. Why not try him?
I'm not a fan of Whole Foods, since their food was already overpriced, compared to the stock at a grocery chain or independent; and their parking lots tended to attract yuppies in SUVs who clogged major intersections, too; but, nonetheless, organic food prices are on the rise.

interesting mayorial election occuring in sacramento california
kevin johnson, better known as kj, former hoop star turned community activist, is running in the primary against the incumbent and 4 other challengers
dont know his party affiliation (its an open primary, just like sf) but they are going after kj with unfounded sexual assault charges, one stemming back all the way from his playing days
plus, kj has gotten into trouble with the gay community for stating that his religious beliefs are against gay marriage, but that as a public servant he would not stand in the way of an individuals rights....
what bugs me, is that gay marriage is not a local issue (it shouldnt be part of the presidential election either, as laws are made by the state legislatures) so why are gays up in arms with a guy who has helped to turn around a school system (his work has helped his alma mater now have a 70 percent college acceptance rate) and his work to revitalize his old stomping grounds
i dont know if kj is a dem (most basketball players are not) but if he is, and he wins this election, he could become a rising star in cali politics
his only prob...he isnt married...and as gavin newsome has found out, the single life for an attractive male pol in cali, leads to pitfalls

we didnt lie, but we did withhold evidence from the american people
we went to war with iraq, because we didnt want an absurd hypothetical ever to occur (that absurd hypothetical, that sadaam would use nukes on america)
we knew that going into iraq could very well turn into a quagmire, but we had to go in when we did and without postwar planning, because of the above absurd hypothetical
there is more, but my head hurts after listening to that guy
kudos to stewart for not reaching across the table to slap his lying ass
btw, he used the term "misremember".....as in, "i wrote this book because most people misremember what occured in the run up to war"

please god...take me now....cuz that guy had a high paying government job...and i helped to pay his salary
There is no reason we shouldn’t pass the 21st Century GI Bill that is being debated in Congress right now. It was introduced by my friend Senator Jim Webb, a Marine who served as Navy Secretary under President Ronald Reagan.. His plan has widespread support from Republicans and Democrats. It would provide every returning veteran with a real chance to afford a college education, and it would not harm retention.
I have great respect for John McCain’s service to this country and I know he loves it dearly and honors those who serve. But he is one of the few Senators of either party who oppose this bill because he thinks it’s too generous. I couldn’t disagree more. At a time when the skyrocketing cost of tuition is pricing thousands of Americans out of a college education, we should be doing everything we can to give the men and women who have risked their lives for this country the chance to pursue the American Dream.
The Army Corps is clueless when it comes to levees.
At the moment, the US military will protect you against.. nothing..
Dont worry go google the 'Civil Assistance Plan' the Canadian army will save us.
That was illegally signed into effect on February 14th 2008 breaking Constitutional Articles one and two in the process.
I can only hope that in the REAL future, humanity will have moved beyond the "bad perm."
With the way the economies are going, probable food / water / energy shortages and environmental pollution issues,
hair care will be the least of our worries.
At a time when the skyrocketing cost of tuition is pricing thousands of Americans out of a college education,
Could it be that in the present brave new outsourced world, that there are too many people going to college...
People dont need degrees to flip burgers, clean nice peoples houses, or die in overseas wars of aggression.
And the last thing any regime needs is too many 'educated' nosy annoying people asking questions and demanding a 'slice of the pie',
When the greater mass of the unwashed is 'uneducated' they are easier to ignore or oppress.

Republican War on Science & Reality Update: Whitehouse Withholds DSCOVR Documents - http://www.desmogblog.com/whitehouse-withholds-dscovr-documents
The Bush Whitehouse continues to stonewall around the critically important Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR).
NASA 'strangely' mothballed this unique spacecraft after spending over $100 million building it. It remains fully completed and in a box at the Goddard Space Center in Maryland. Senior scientists believe this spacecraft could almost immediately resolve any remaining honest debate about the seriousness or causes of climate change.
An investigation by DeSmog Blog earlier this year showed that this mission could be launched and operated at a cost to NASA of only $55 million – less than 0.3% of NASA’s annual budget.
In contrast, the Bush administration seems much more interested in having NASA mine the moon - and actively suppressing rather than advancing climate science. One thing is certain – this administration is not shy about imposing its will on the scientific community.
Would the thirteen documents withheld by the Whitehouse prove that the Bush administration killed the DSCOVR mission? We may never know, but we will keep digging.
"Barack Obama's wave of superdelegate endorsements puts him within reach of the Democratic presidential nomination by the end of the primary season on June 3 — even if he loses half of the remaining six contests.
The Illinois senator has picked up 26 superdelegates in the past week. At that pace, he will reach the number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination — 2,025 — in the next three weeks."

First, Donald Rumsfeld couldn't be bothered to personally sign letters of condolences to the families of fallen troops. Then we find out the Pentagon shipped home our war dead as freight in order to save money. N
Now we come to find out the Pentagon contracted a pet crematorium to cremate the freight that is our war dead. The pet crematorium is near Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, where our fallen troops arrive before their remains are sent home.
Pols fail to comprehend breadth of infrastructure crisis - http://www.scholarsandrogues.com/2008/05/12/pols-fail-to-comprehend-brea...
America's public-works infrastructure continues to deteriorate as Congress dithers. Only disasters move our representatives and presidential candidates to act — and in an election year, those actions seem spotty at best and disingenuous at worst.

A piercing indication of how infiltrated the Bush family has become is news that the Methodist minister, the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, who'd married Jenna Bush and Henry Hager, is openly a Barack Obama supporter.
This is a curious turnaround for a Republican family so clannish and partisan that one half expected the top of the wedding cake to feature a miniature bride, groom and Karl Rove. Such an infiltration would've been unthinkable four, perhaps even two years ago.

Stupidity is as stupidity does: Hannity And FOX News Blame Al Gore For Global Food Crisis - http://www.newshounds.us/2008/05/12/hannity_and_fox_news_blame_al_gore_f...
Hannity is correct that increased demand for biofuels is part of the problem. According to Time magazine, there are three other factors: One is the chronically low productivity of farmers in the poorest countries, caused by their inability to pay for seeds, fertilizers and irrigation.
Another is the growing demand for food and the third, which Hannity would probably rather die than admit to, is climate change. Time reported that recent droughts in Australia and Europe cut the global production of grain in 2005 and '06. New York Times columnist and economics professor Paul Krugman says that high oil costs play a big role, too.
Hannity also failed to mention that U.S. policies subsidize the conversion of food into biofuels and are also to blame. Time criticizes that policy but notes a possible win-win solution: “There may be a case for biofuels produced on lands that do not produce foods--tree crops (like palm oil), grasses and wood products--but there's no case for doling out subsidies to put the world's dinner into the gas tank.”
'War on Terror scam update': 'The number of Americans being secretly wiretapped or having their financial and other records reviewed by the government has continued to increase as officials aggressively use powers approved after the Sept. 11 attacks. But the number of terrorism prosecutions ending up in court -- one measure of the effectiveness of such sleuthing -- has continued to decline, in some cases precipitously.'

Because no contribution below $200 is publicly reported, the vast majority of those names are in Obama's exclusive possession, to be shared as he wishes.

So we are going to be saved, right?
Ron @ 50:
I think that I have been using the term "corporate media" instead of MSM, it seems more apropos.
It's very hard to find the true these days.
Ron @ 52:
Only if Arnold Schwartzeneger (sic) can be destroyed. :)
LibertyLover @ 53:
You could say corporatist, fascist media, but it might confuse the issue even more. What we do know, it is propaganda.
McSame says he'll reduce carbon emissions if elected. Where have we heard that before? Oh, wait...
BUSH REVERSES PLEDGE TO REGULATE CARBON just 53 days into his first term. PSYCH!
Boy, fool me once...shame on...shame on you. Fool me twice... ....Lucy, hold still with that football. I really just might kick it this time!

LibertyLover @ 58:
Naw, we already tried that, then they let the SCOTUS appoint someone that had less intelligence than someone that lost his mind. Let's see if we can get a real intelligent person elected. I know, how about that new black guy. I think his name is Obama. Why not try him?

I'm not a fan of Whole Foods, since their food was already overpriced, compared to the stock at a grocery chain or independent; and their parking lots tended to attract yuppies in SUVs who clogged major intersections, too; but, nonetheless, organic food prices are on the rise.

interesting mayorial election occuring in sacramento california
kevin johnson, better known as kj, former hoop star turned community activist, is running in the primary against the incumbent and 4 other challengers
dont know his party affiliation (its an open primary, just like sf) but they are going after kj with unfounded sexual assault charges, one stemming back all the way from his playing days
plus, kj has gotten into trouble with the gay community for stating that his religious beliefs are against gay marriage, but that as a public servant he would not stand in the way of an individuals rights....
what bugs me, is that gay marriage is not a local issue (it shouldnt be part of the presidential election either, as laws are made by the state legislatures) so why are gays up in arms with a guy who has helped to turn around a school system (his work has helped his alma mater now have a 70 percent college acceptance rate) and his work to revitalize his old stomping grounds
i dont know if kj is a dem (most basketball players are not) but if he is, and he wins this election, he could become a rising star in cali politics
his only prob...he isnt married...and as gavin newsome has found out, the single life for an attractive male pol in cali, leads to pitfalls
holy fucking moly....i just watched the feith interview
he may not be the dumbest person on the planet, but he is the worlds biggest asshat
if his book reads anywhere near his onset thought process, i am amazed that stewart was able to get through it, and glean any real information from it
here is what i got
we didnt lie, but we did withhold evidence from the american people
we went to war with iraq, because we didnt want an absurd hypothetical ever to occur (that absurd hypothetical, that sadaam would use nukes on america)
we knew that going into iraq could very well turn into a quagmire, but we had to go in when we did and without postwar planning, because of the above absurd hypothetical
there is more, but my head hurts after listening to that guy
kudos to stewart for not reaching across the table to slap his lying ass
btw, he used the term "misremember".....as in, "i wrote this book because most people misremember what occured in the run up to war"
whahahahahahahahah
please god...take me now....cuz that guy had a high paying government job...and i helped to pay his salary
Actually, I like this better...

Obama to McCain:

So why has the MSM ignored Clinton's 'troopergate' attack advert on Obama !?
Are they so coked up or in the pockets of, that they missed it !

Dont worry go google the 'Civil Assistance Plan' the Canadian army will save us.
That was illegally signed into effect on February 14th 2008 breaking Constitutional Articles one and two in the process.
That really breaks my heart.

GOP 'supporting the troops' update: Cremate the Freight - http://welcome-to-pottersville.blogspot.com/2008/05/cremate-freight.html
The next time some Fair Tax idiot or some tax hating Republican says something stupid, throw this in their face...and remind them that privatizing it will make it 1,000X worse...what incentive does a profit driven entity have to 'get the job done'? Exactly....ex: Iraq.
The Bush 'Presidency' encapsulated: 4000 Funerals and a Wedding - http://welcome-to-pottersville.blogspot.com/2008/05/4000-funerals-and-we...

Jonathan Alter: Let me introduce a new ace in the hole for Obama. For all the talk of numbers, there's one that will be most important for superdelegates: 1.5 million. That reflects the 1.5 million names of donors that the Obama campaign has on file. Because no contribution below $200 is publicly reported, the vast majority of those names are in Obama's exclusive possession, to be shared as he wishes.
