The President was absolutely innocent in all this, but the record is not clear on wether or not he intended to be involved at a future date of which we know nothing about.
Ha ha, yeah, I've been waiting for the crazy explanation that would be required to justify Executive Privilege that didn't involve the Executive branch.
I just can't imagine any judge buying this load of horse manure. Even strict conservative judges will have a hard time signing off on this one.
The return of the "cold war" is much more fascinating then the headline about double speak. We all know nothing is going to happen to Bush. Pelosi made sure of that. The man's made of teflon, nothing is going to stick. I'm just sick and tired of hearing about it. Every new revelation of his law breaking, just makes me angry and depressed. I know nothing will be done about it, so I don't want to know anymore. Even Obama has said he won't prosecute the SOB, it would be distracting and divisive for the country. But the re-emergence of Russia as a "threat" is what we should be worried about. It's obvious to me that our military-industrial complex needs for us to have an enemy. If we didn't, then there would be no need to spend hundreds of billions every year for weapon systems. The corporate MSM is playing it's usual propaganda role, emphasizing Russian aggression while minimizing that it was Georgia that provoked the entire thing in the first place. No MSM news source will point out how we've been goading the Russians into this. By expanding NATO right up to their very door steps. Of course the Russians would react with alarm at this, because it's threatening to them. The US would react the same way if someone did this to us. But we will be constantly propagandized on how evil the Russians are, how they are trying to reclaim their old empire. So we will need to sell missile defense systems to Poland and other countries, to counter the Russian threat. It's all part of keeping the weapons manufactures raking in the dollars.
Did Bob Barr just say something I totally agreed with?
I wanted to hear this from Obama.
Bob Barr condemns the Bush administration and others on Capitol Hill to send an expensive aid package to Georgia to help them rebuild after their hostilities with Russia.
“The Bush administration is talking about pumping aid into the damaged Georgian economy, after that nation’s short war with Russia,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. “The conflict between Georgia and Russia was tragic, but it’s time officials in Washington stopped treating the Treasury Department like an ATM for the world. The deficit rose last month after Uncle Sam had to bail out several failed banks and the total federal deficit this year is going to run about $400 billion. It’s time to say enough!”
“The U.S. spent $21 billion on foreign aid last year, not counting money for Iraq,” explains Barr. “Over the years Washington has shipped hundreds of billions of dollars overseas, with much of it wasted. The Third World remains poor, only with a larger debt. Indeed, U.S. aid programs often subsidized socialist and undemocratic regimes.”
“The Saakashvili government in Georgia made a foolish mistake by initiating hostilities in its breakaway province of South Ossetia,” notes Barr. “American taxpayers should not have to pay for that mistake. After all, they already are paying $10 billion a month for the administration’s mistaken invasion and occupation of Iraq. They cannot afford to pay the price for other people’s wars as well,” says Barr.
“Instead of increasing foreign aid, the U.S. government needs to cut the amount of taxpayer money that it sends overseas,” insists Barr. “Most important, it is time to start saying no more. No more international welfare clients. No more foreign governments treating America as a cash cow. We need to put our own fiscal house in order rather than constantly bail out irresponsible governments around the world.”
Barr points out what the press and the Bush administration seem to want to sweep under the rug: Georgia instigated this conflict. Even if the Russian response was disproportionate that fact remains.
*I believe in aide but let's face it we have become an ATM.
*Africa is a big example, Aide is need for poverty and AIDS but the truth you do not hear is Africa is the richest continent in the world in terms of natural and human resources; Gold, Diamonds and oil are just the start.
*It's estimated with proper handling it would be stronger than US and China combined.
*yet, Africa remains the world's poorest and most underdeveloped continent, due largely to the effects of the corrupt governments, failed central planning, the international trade regime and geopolitics; as well as widespread human rights violations, the negative effects of colonialism, despotism and conflict (ranging from war to civil war to guerrilla to genocide).
*Sending Aide is good but sometimes we are just allowing selfish ambitions continue. The government gets rich, while US pays to keep their people alive.

Hey everyone. Above is a link to a local newspaper article about the drug war here in Humboldt, California.
This is an amazing, short read that will make you ask "What is really going on here?"
There were several growers and properties involved in a federal sweep to erradicate marijuana plantations last month. 10,000 plants were seized. There were no arrests, even though the property owners were known. Instead, the Feds seized the properties and belongings of the persons involved. No court case or charges filed. This is how it has worked for more than twenty years here in Humboldt.
Is this the way law is executed these days? Simply taking an individual's property and never having to prove in court why you took it?

As Russian tanks rolled into Georgia, the western-educated President Mikheil Saakashvilli became a fixture on the cable networks.
Mikhail Gorbachev wasn't impressed with the coverage. Writing today in the NY Times, Gorbachev called out the West for leading a "propaganda attack against Russia, with the American news media leading the way." (Yes, that's the former Soviet leader talking about propaganda).
