The only disappointment, as KO pointed out in his DK diary, is that there was no pie.

I wonder who's going to substitute for Olbermann now?
i hope she is able to maintain her edge.
Go Rachel! Off Topic. AP: Senoir Military officials and Iraqi Leaders make a deal to let troops leave the cities by June of next year. Mmm..., If I didn't know any better, I swear that's a timetable.
I hope she stops trying to imitate KO's voice. :-)
someguy @ 1:
So does he... :)
" Sweeeeeeeeeeeet"
I'm surprised Dan Abrams kept going as long as he did. What a no-talent. This couldn't have happened to a nicer gal. Maybe Keith can ge Obama to guest host after he loses the election.
Sure there was ..............
There was Rachel ..............And she's a cutie pie
theWalrus @ 7:
And when Obama wins , maybe he can get McDepends to shill for Ensure ..............And to shit on-cue and on camera
Joe Scarborough must be foaming at the mouth. Excellent!
Let's see how long before the corporate crooks get to her. She is the most intelligent TV commentator on the news today.
Rachel is great and has done great work on Countdown. I know they couldn't use Countdown with Keith Olbermann but how about Countdown, Part deux with Rachel Maddow? or maybe, the mind of Maddow! Maddow's take on the world! All right enough.
Sorry Keith, looks like no more vacations for you!
Craig@10, I almost forgot about good ole Joe. Is his morning show still on? After watching Rachel pull punches with him before, I bet he's stomping around because she's on Prime-time while he hangs around with Mika and Buchanan.
I wish that Rachel would have replaced Chris Mathews and they could keep Abrams on. Oh well, it's a start.
Ed in Socal @ 4:
I agree, no scripting and more "raw" Rachel is much better. Wow, her grandmother's and my 44th birthday, nice gifts indeed.
No word on the Situation Room about the troop withdrawl plan. I wonder what McCain thinks about our troops out of Iraq by June of next year? I guess there goes his 100 year occupation idea. MSNBC is the only news page talking about it. Let's bring our soldiers home!
Yes!!!!! Go Rachel!
No slam against KO, but she'll pass him in ratings. She's smarter and is more insightful.
Rachel,
No body has worked harder with more humor and class all the while expertly "jabbing a stick into the soft white underbelly of the radical right." Your getting this MSNBC gig is a breath of fresh air for all of us frustrated with the status quo of everyday corporate media and the hate speech spewing endlessly from Clear Channel's cesspool of lying creepy talking heads.
You should feel very proud and I am very proud of you. Oh, and by the way, go ahead and continue to imitate KO's voice and anyone else's voice for that matter. I mean, what the heck. It hasn't worked out so badly for KO, Matt & Tray or Harry either :) Ht:Ed
wonder how fast she'll sell out to the GE korporitka
To bad she's not on Fox so the nut jobs could get a dose of reality! The Wingers don't watch MSNBC.
Well done Rachel. You've earned it.
How awesome that he posted a blog on DailyKos. That is cool. I hope to see more of that in the future :)
goldenjoe @ 20:
Y, like all the other shills on MSNBC.
I know she's tough and very smart. I hope she brings on right wingers and knocks them on their asses with her knowledge. I love Keith, but he only brings on liberals and that gets very boring, I need to see Republicons squirm AND DONT TELL ME TO LOOK IN MENSROOM STALLS FOR THAT. LOL
bluegal @ 5:
How about Joe Wilson?
(hussein)moondancer @ 18:
i'm going to go with they are both smart and insightful.
off topic:it's looking like we are going to get screwed on fannie mae/freddie mac....look out...
I'll be there!
Subbing for Keith?
I'm pulling for Ed Shultz, Thom Hartman or my dream pick: Sam Seder. Hell, I'll watch an hour of Sam and Marc Maron trying to figure out their webcams... wait... I've done that.
Major Congrats to Rhodes Scholar Rachel!
It is a little bitter sweet; I've long hoped to see her with her own show, but I was really starting to feel those Press Sec. nominations.
I'm also a little sorry that Dan Abrams is the one losing his show. It wasn't the greatest, but as far as talking head shows go it was tolerable, and that says alot actually. He also did great work with the Siegelman case and should be commended by Dems/Libs/Progressives everywhere. Ironically though it did make the actual Democrats in congress look pretty bad by comparison.
MSNBC needs to follow through with this one very, very great move and keep going. Put Abrams on in the morning and dump out that stale NeoCon coffee show.
Then replace MC Rove's Fly Girl (baby-Dick Gregory) with, hell, anyone would be better than him. Maybe give Jonathan Alter a shot? He seems to be one of the good ones.
someguy @ 1:
Bill Maher?
If she's looking for some suggestions for the show...
Maddow Now
The Fair View
Just the Facts, Ma'am
lastly.... how about "It's not Countdown, but I'm better than Olbermann and waaay cuter than Scarborough"
Smart, positive, thoughtful, cute, don't take any shit from right wing assholes....too good for me...even if she were straight.
Congratulations Rachel. Good move MSNBC.
I LOVE Rachel, I just hate she took Dan Abrams spot, I liked him alot.
Don't get me wrong. I'm very pleased for Rachel.
Rachel is smart and quick, and has the genre down,
but the problem is the genre itself. about as deep as a thin crust pizza.
people who get into shallow stuff might learn something from her that they certainly won't learn from Chris Mathews, but every sentence is a segue to some bumper sticker soundbite.
America needs to learn to think critically again.
I wonder if his well deserved rant on Siegelman against Rove had anything to do with his replacement?
ysbaddaden @ 31:
He's to much of an asshole.
I agree with much of what he says but he's still an asshole.
Ed Shultz or Mike Papantonio might be good.
someguy @ 37:
Bill O' Reilly!!
Dennis Miller?
Liberal AND Proud @ 38:
lol
Rachel will be awesome. Very few people combine smart and perky that well. As for fill ins, there are no shortage of "analysts" out there.
How about this guy?
He might be a little green at first.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRvhRhWWE44
Finally, there is a commentator who has integrity, intelligence and has credentials.
WTG, Rachel, looking forward to watching you.
Wonderful @ 43:
Olbermann already has those qualities.
I've been sending emails to MSNBC to get Rachel her own show since she started appearing on Olbermann! She's so smart and has a good heart!
Now, let's switch in David Shuster for Chris Matthews!
I don't know much about her, but since everyone here seems to think she deserved a shot, I'll just say good luck...
You'll need it...
1e47Kansaskowboy @ 14:
You know, when I first heard the news, I was quite excited at the prospect of MSNBC having shows by Keith Olbermann, Dan Abrams AND Rachel Maddow, but finding out that Abrams is leaving has tempered that excitement a bit. However, I never miss Rachel's show on AAR, so I'm still pretty stoked...
Congrats Rachel, Looking forward to checking out your show...
Don't hurt at all that you're easy on the eyes either.... And that's about as sexually insinuating as I'm gettin on this today folks. JD
Nice, so MSNBC is now officially in the tank. Nobody will take their news reports seriously anymore, just like with FOX.
This is how McCain wins in 2008. I am very worried and shtuff like this doesn't help any.
It is about time!
ysbaddaden @ 39:
The x-comedian?
MSNBC is trying to attract viewers.
As a close personal friend of Tory the intern, I wholeheartedly agree with the doctor.
someguy @ 1:
Stephanie Miller!!! = )
WHAT!?! NO PIE? Forget it then...
Heh. Actually, I'll leave the channel on another hour, as long as she doesn't have to have the piggy Buchanans on. That would be much better than no pie. That's why I couldn't watch the Abrams show, as much as I liked him. Pat B is more than I can stomach.
Liberal AND Proud @ 38:
If Billo was ever forced to sub for a guy like Keith Olberman, he would implode into a self consuming ball of hatred.
I have to wonder how the folks at Fox are going to react to the news? Rachael is an intelligent, knowledgeable and formidable debater. Fox hates to see those qualities in a woman.
It's only a matter of time before they make some kind of smear about her.
Comrade Rou @ 11:
Neck and neck with Jon Stewart and Bill Moyers, anyway. Holy crap, get those three in a room together and watch the building melt down from all the brainpower.
commenter 49 frets too much.
must be afraid of balance, as if Obama wins if all TV offers is right wing claptrap?
Forge @ 53:
I like her but her degree is in theater.
Numinous @ 55:
Oh she will be easy pickings.
And fox is a 24 hour network as opposed to her one hour show.
How about "Rachael's Anti-Propaganda Hour"?
theWalrus @ 7:
Them's fighting words, Bush Leauge Justice was worth its wait in gold. If anything he was the only newscaster to follow Siegelman's side and be such a craw in Rove's side that he had to publicly complain about him.
Not to mention Siegelman liked Abrams so much for putting light on his plight that he gave the exclusive for him.
Give Abrams a spot on Rachel's show to do that, beat the press and the P.O.'d box. Combine the best of both worlds.
Forge @ 56:
IMO, Stewart is brilliant but he's not in the same league intelligence-wise as Rachel. Moyers is the elder stateman of true journalism. Rachel is in a class all to herself. It will be interesting to see if she can continue to buck the corporate narrative.
There you go, the next 20 years is starting to look up. 2 progressives on tv back to back, what will we do?
True facts no spin, Honesty and Integrity, True and correct........ I could go on.
I am loving it.
hello you are a &**#@$
[Back at you tarheel girl. You are so witty. Bub bye-Sitemonitor]
vc
It's about time.
Now we need to replace the 7pm Hardball repeat (which is insane to show a repeat of the 5pm show at 7) with another progressive voice. I vote for someone like Cenk Uygar from the Young Turks or Sam Seder.
A leading voice of the independent "progressive" movement is hired to work under GE (with $3 billion pending in government contracts to murder men women and children in Iraq)? and you all are rejoicing? Thy blogs must be crazy!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but with her and Kieth O, that makes two actual liberal or progressive voices on the television, albeit cable, versus how many conservative or neutral (and that's being extremely kind) voices on tv?
Comrade Rou @ 62:
Also you have to remember Stewart has his writing team, I originally thought he lorded over the script, but when the writers did a Daily show-isq report on the strike for Youtube, they used ALL the mannerisms that Stewart does on the show. Not to say he's bad, but Stewart is only the face of the team.
I heard Rush Limbaugh today telling his moronic audience (I'm not his "audience" - I don't swallow a single word he says!) that Rachel Maddow was a "failed liberal radio talk show host".
He continued to say that Abrams ought to be ashamed and embarrassed that she "had more testosterone" than he does.
What a fucking moron.
Rachel got to TV by being a failure on radio?
On a side note, you ever get into an argument with a wingnut moron and they'll bring up what a failure Air America is?
The thing is, it's not really a failure...but Rush and Sean say it is so that's what they (think they) know.
Maybe now MSNBC can flush all those ridiculously lurid "prison documentaries" so they can find a new spot for Dan...
Make themselves a more serious news network.
Rush is a failed TV show host. He failed on Monday Night football and he failed when his radio show went on the air.
Music Snob @ 69:
And she's keeping her radio show. Rush is jealous because his tv show tanked. And he got kicked off of that football show for being a right wing dick (Whose idea was that? No doubt the same Einstein who thought Miller would do well in that spot).
Music Snob @ 69:
BTW Thanks for listening so we don't have to. That's quite a sacrifice on your part. :D
I suppose after Countdown could come Blast Off.
Nah. Too corny.
How 'bout, Critical Thinking with Rachel Maddow.
The BEST news!!
Music Snob @ 69:
It's just what the right wing blatherers do.
If Colin Powell endorses Obama (there are rumors), to the Rash Limbos of the world, he will instantaneously become that failed general whom great leader Bush always mistrusted, and whose responsible for the mess in Iraq.
If Gen. Patton were to rise from the grave to criticize the Busheviks, the Bull O'Really?s and Sheer Insanities of the world would scream about how the anti-American failed WWII general hates the troops.
If Ben Franklin were alive today, his list would include death, taxes and right-wing defamation.
My two favorites, KO and RM.....thanks MSNBC and KO, the neocon lies are coming down at last. To thoes in the MSM who have mis-led us for so many years...read the ratings and go hide your heads in shame. (I'm having a very good day!)
goldenjoe @ 20:
You should not assume everyone lacks morals and conviction, like you and your friends. To make such an asinine comment like that, you clearly do not know a damn thing about the lady.
1e47Kansaskowboy @ 71:
True he's stupid shill but pure joy for the wealthy class, who by the way never listen to him. His instincts for being a brown nose shill is worth $400 million to the rulers.
Karen @ 74:
Actually, I rather like that.
I'd really like to see her do a segment called 'connecting the dots' or 'following the leads' or something like that.
One of the core problems we have right now is that 24-hr news has become a 24-hr fustercluck.
We know the cycle: Some White House "source" on deep background "leaks" a part of the administration's agenda, waits for it to circle the newsbowl a few times and then administration officials cite reports based on the leak as a basis for their conclusions.
"The New York Times is reporting that Saddam has WMD." (because I told them)
Well, this has been a very exciting, bold and new dynamic and there's no reason to suspect it's limited to the Bush White House. Everyone from corporations to celebrities will be doing this soon.
Jon Stewart had a good one last night about oil drilling. How is it that we've gone from "new drilling won't help us for 20 years" to "new drilling will help next year?" WHO is responsible for reducing these timelines? Exactly who? And when you find out its, say, "a report in the Boston Globe," well, then, okay, what were their sources?
And if they refuse to reveal their sources, well, fine, okay, then we no longer take those assertions as being SHOWN, we take them as being ASSERTED and we ask if there's an CORROBORATION.
Reporter shield laws were intended to protect the flow of credible information to the public, not to cover up ponzi schemes.
When you pay a source, that's dubious. When a source pays YOU, that's propaganda.
congrats Rachel!!!
guest hosts for Keith...
Bill Clinton. He needs an outlet for his anger.
wisedup @ 77:
I would like to see Rachel give a 5-10 minute commentary by Bill Moyers, and/or John Dean. That would really be a killer addition.
Comrade Rou @ 79:
WHICH, by the way I'd like to ask you guys about...
All of these wingnut asshats love to talk about how liberal radio has failed - it's advertisers fail - they fail in the marketpalec of ideas blah blah blah -
SO I have a question, is Rush Limbaugh worth $400 million because he'll make that up to them in advertising / ratings whatever?
OORR do they cushion and subsidize that? Are there evil fuckers out there willing to pay him that because it's worth it to them in other ways?
Music Snob @ 84:
I couldn't find his ad revenues but my guess is that Rush is central to the wingnuts keeping America stupid.
Yay!
Bravo!
Smartest move since... ever!
Great news.
Well, since they've got "Countdown," with Keith Olberman...
How about "Lift-Off" with Rachael Maddow? The show that lifts the rock and peeks underneath, elevated discourse that reveals what's really going on in America with the nation's sharpest social and political commentator.
People that think it's sexual innuendo, they're just evil...;-)
Good for her! We need more like her and KO!
Still can't believe it. Seems the MSM is finally recognizing that Teh Libruls have wallets, too. That there's even an audience out there for news through a progressive lens. Incredible. I'm stunned.
Keith lost a great guest host but gained a great duo partner. At last the possibility of republican being taken down with twice the power. WOOT WOOT GO Rachel!
If Rachel Maddow is searching for a show name my suggestion
Rachel's 9@9
How about "soundbyte"????????????????
[Deleted. Banned. site Monitor]
First of all, she won't get the numbers in a week that Rush has in a day. Secondly, you listened, you are in his audience. Last but not least, everything about Air America was a failure. Financially or commercially, it didn't work!
miss_kitty @ 72:
O.K., show of hands.
How many of you think intelligent woman are incredibly sexy?
Congratulations, Rachel.
Great move. Make that two shows that I would actually watch on cable news, KO and Rachel. They could have dumped Gregory and Matthews as well and been better off, neither of which actually pretends to have an audience beyond the usual suspects of pundits prattling at each other.
How wonderful for "us" to have a brilliant mouth-piece get a show and be on OUR side!
Go Rachel!
Go Rachel,
TV and Radio. Girls got UMPH......
Now what to suggest for naming her new TV show?
Where it counts? Political Alphebets? Insight? Political Potpourri?
On the issues, with Rachel Maddow? News essentuals with Rachel?
Ok Maddow, you are a lesbian. We get it. Enough with the butch haircuts. And wear a dress once in a while for christssakes. Geez, you're on network TV...not hanging out in a lesbian bar.
woot to the woot Maddow! I disagree with orcas--wear what you want, you look great. I'm so happy that MSNBC took the good advice of Keith and so many of us and gave you your own show. I will be tuning in for its debut with a big smile. (I like the name Reality Check.) You will be a big influence on this generation, just as Olbermann is and Russert was. Go get em!!!
now that I am reading the comments, I see many other good name suggestions in there for Rachel's show
Dear orca,Fuck you!
Sincerely.
Dnurse
. . . and Abrams for Morning Scarboring Joe!
orcas @ 100:
orcas @ 100:
Oh for god sakes. You just put yourself right up there with the falafel-sporting faux-men on faux news. WE like her just the way she is.
Abrams should stay on MSNBC in some capacity. Although I think that Rachel is a much better choice than Abrams for the time slot, in turn I think Abrams is a much better choice than Joe (Dan at Daybreak? Daybreak with Dan Abrams? Morning with Joe is like morning sickness :), Chris or Gregory (he should especially replace Gregory...Abrams is dynamite with special interest stories...very passionate and is not going to spin the details. Gregory is so creepy).
Damn...if MSNBC would just listen it could be an incredible line-up!
Refreshing! Both seem like a breath of fresh air!
P.D. @ 13:
Rachel "pulled punches with Joe Scarborough"?I don't think so! Every time those two bumped noggins, Rachel wiped the floor up with Joe all the while making Scar. look like the idiot he is!
1e47Kansaskowboy @ 14:
Just like Olbermann became a HUGE pain in Bill O'Lielly's ass Rachel will do the same thing to Sean Hannity! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! GO RACHEL!!!
good msnbc. rachel is terrific!!!!!now if you could replace morning joe.PLEASE
Why not call her show "The Left's Ann Coulter?" No decent person should
ever forgive Maddow's crude, sick attacks on Hillary Clinton. Her claiming
that Mrs. Clinton was a "goul" who want Obama assasinated was discusting.
Indeed, her brand on know it all, win by any means while claiming
the high road has not been good for the Obama campaign, patheticly
now neck and neck with McCain. When Oberman turned into Limbaugh,
sensable voters started turning away from the Dems. It's sad, but
Rachel got her T.V. show from Jack Welsh. In the cluch, She declared
Chris Matthews a great man.
Rachel, you might want to give a real close look at using the phrase "post soviet world". Given the situation in Georgia, methinks soviet Russia is reconstituting.
Right on. Rachel is such a breath of fresh air. Smart, witty, and able to take right-wing BSers to the mat with fact and good humor. A new generation of left leaders is emerging!
i'm in love with rachel maddow!!!!!!
orcas @ 100:
Amen.
Take a tip or two from Ellen. You've got the brains don't spoil it by drawing attention to the package that they came in.
Finally, a smart articulate woman in prime time. I have been listening to Rachel's show for a long time on Air America and MSNBC could not have done a better job of picking a new show host. She will be a light in the darkness.
I think they should call her show the Rachel Maddow Chronicles or the Chronicles of Rachel Maddow.
I can't wait to watch no matter what they call it.
Jewel
Houston
She has the Andrew MCarthy (circa 1983) haircut!
