"Sen. McCain likes to talk about judgment, but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush was right more than 90 percent of the time?
Despite ad released telling Obama "How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we'll be back at it. But tonight Senator, job well done." John McCain waited all of 2 minutes before attacking Barack Obama and his speech.
McCain released harshly negative response at 11:02 PM. Typical Repuglians slime machine, and pretty typical of the McCain campain and their double-talk express.

I tried to read it, but my brain translated it into that "wha wha" sound the adults make in the Charlie Brown cartoons.
A war criminal gets away with involuntary manslaughter. Workers haven't been this depressed since Bush pre-9/11. Rove was the one who threw Lieberman under the bus.
The Democrats skipped the head this time and went straight for the heart, producing a convention that will be inspiring people for weeks and months to come. Great job, Democrats!
I expect to hear a lot about God from Republicans. And Israel. And brave soldiers. And a particular POW. It's going to be very boring.
Well it's time for them to own their failure. It's time for us to change America. And that's why I'm running for president of the United States.
You see, we Democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes progress in this country.
We measure progress by how many people can find a job that pays the mortgage; whether you can put a little extra money away at the end of each month so you can someday watch your child receive her college diploma. We measure progress in the 23 million new jobs that were created when Bill Clinton was president -- when the average American family saw its income go up $7,500 instead of go down $2,000 like it has under George Bush.
McCain is going to be utterly depressing to listen to.
Not to mention Hurricane Gustav bearing down on the convention...
Don't worry folks, under a McCain administration, you will be fine, stop whining, it will be just:
1-War with Iran.
2-War with Russia.
3-War with Germany since Putin is president of Germany and giving cold-war style speeches.
4-War with North Korea.
5-and my friends, we have to stand up to China too.
6-$100 Trillion deficit.
7-No oil for you my friends, you don't need to drive a car, play some sports, start jugging [c expletive].
but that's all, I mean, come on , nothing dangerous. he will not attack Pakistan, my friends Pakistan is a sovereign nation, shame on you, SHAME ON YOU, you want attack a sovereign nation in the 21st century? is this logical? you are warmongers and bunch of whiners, now go back to work and leave POTUS ALONE!! , unpatriotic crazy leftist liberals who want to destroy our nation.
Actually, the biggest favor we can do us all is not to watch any major TV networks and pay no attention to the old man behind the curtain.
JimboSlice @ 2:
It's a pretty good sign, actually. They said they were going to hold off on the negativism for one night, but had to break their promise after Obama's speech. (And honestly, was it really worth it for THAT stale list of recycled talking points?)
Thank you John Kerry for picking Obama as the keynote speaker in 2004.
What RNC? I heard on MSNBC that it might not happen "because of Gustav."
The republicants suffered a severe head injury tonight. I think the DNC and the Obama campaign have been throttling their forces until after the convention. Joe Sixpack doesn't start paying attention until now. And now it's time to set the record straight.

"my friend", Poster #8,
McCain knows firsthand the terrors of war, probably better than Sen. Obama. Because of this, he will not go around looking for wars, but he also knows that sometimes War is the only option.
About the ad, John McCain's comment about the houses and economy are taken out of context. Senator McCain does not live in all those houses, and might even have relatives living there. When he said the fundamentals of the economy are strong, he didn't mean that everything is nice and rosy, but that the United States has the long term capacity to emerge out of this downturn stronger than before.
I dislike any time the comments of either Senator are taken out of context, including taking out of context Obama's vote on abortions that has been publicized recently.
The most frequent anti-Obama talking point I keep hearing is : " He's a great speaker but the fact is he's setting the public up for a huge let-down should he become president ."
A huge let-down ? We've had eight years of "huge let-down" . There is nothing, repeat NOTHING, that Obama could do that would surpass the let-down the world has experienced since Dubya was selected .
And you Hillary backers who say you'll vote for McCain ...... stay home. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face, especially if you can't afford the health care .
David @ 15:
To quote John McCain, "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb
Bomb, Bomb, Iran."
This does not sound like a man seeking peace to me.
Why is that?
Rovethrew ieberman under t bus? I hve leanedfrom ln exerience that Rove will do pretty much the opposite of what he says. I put even odds on a John Sidney/Holy Joe ticket.
sorry, keyboard batteries oing, oing, on...
Barack. Keep your pimp hand strong...
David @ 15:
Well, McCain's own comments and behavior don't jive well with the "not looking for war" claim. "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" and cigerettes are a way of "killing them [Iranians]" were two comments to name a few... And whether you feel McCain meant something else with the economy, a $4,999,999 income being considered middle class says otherwise...
McCain lies about "Russian aggression."
Obama lies about "Russian aggression."
McCain. McSame. McBush....they both suck and I can not wait til the RNC to see them fail. Ps I hope he picks Pawlenty ha ha that would make the McCain campaign even more boring but follow right along with their agenda to change nothing!
xoites defends Constitution @ 17:
McCain doesn't know shit.
He has proven to an unreliable narrator of his own life who can't be trusted on the issues, he's beholden to any corporate special interest that comes begging (can the man ever say no?), and he's totally indifferent to human suffering (bomb bomb bomb Iran - he probably relives his North Vietnam bombing career every night after dinner when he's nodding off in front of some John Wayne movie).
In short, not presidential material.
In any way.
GOP considers delaying convention
I'm laughing so hard I can hardly think of an appropriate comment .. there are so many to choose from.

Right after the major combat ended either Medyedev or Putin said they figured Cheney was behind Saakashvili's decision to shell Tshkinvali.
I think Putin is spot-on; I've agreed with him before he said it!!
But I'd go one step further. It wasn't just a campaign trick to help McCain get elected. It was another effort by the Neocons to destabilize the region to ensure there will be plenty of conflict for them to continue to manipulate for their profit.
Poland rushed to initiate the "Missile Defense Shield" - a highly provocative move, but also sheer lunacy from a realistic perspective. The American Missile Shield is an enormous defense department boondoggle. It doesn't work, but it is an open ended project with unlimited spending potential.
Check out who is the Polish Minister of Defense who signed the deal - Sikorski.
Just before he went back to Poland to become the Minister of Defense he was a Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute - RIGHT WING AMERICAN THINK TANK.
Saakashvili - Columbia Law School, NY Lawyer, then Pres of Georgia.
Sikorski - American Enterprise Institute, then Poland' Minister of Defense.
Very tight little group rocking the boat - for profit.
Check out David Brooks' reaction to Obama's speech. Simply shameful.
MountainMan23 @ 28:
McCain made a speech in New Orleans saying that he would be different from Bush, and would never let something like the Katrina response happen again. Yet, on the day that New Orleans was drowning, McCain and Bush were eating birthday cake.
That cannot be SPUN, it can only be COVERED UP. Which is the idea behind announcing his VP pick on Friday. New Orleans is being EVACUATED tomorrow at noon, to get out of the way of hurricane Gustav. The Republicans can't allow the images of New Orlean being evacuated to dominate the news cycle so close to the Repub. Convention. They have to put something else on the airwaves to compete with those images. A high schoolish SQUEE party over McCain's pick for VP might do the trick. (They're doing that because they have no choice, but they also run the risk of CONFLATING those two images in the public mind. *shrug* What else can they do?)
bobby Dem @ 29:
No, the problem is that the POTUS doesn't care about the economy...same with McPOWPOWPOW
@ 29,
The president might not control the economy, but his policies sure in the hell can dramatically effect it.
I am fleshing out an argument that can encompass the magnitude of our collective despair. Maybe our predicament is sufficent to provide me the inspiration I need, in order to convey something that is devoid of accusations, but filled, instead, with observations that many of you can share.
My girlfriend and I just bought a home a little over two months ago. Just now, I was outside enjoying the cold air of New England thinking about the age of our home (built in the 1920's), along with the evident craftsmanship that went into piecing it together. This brought me to the realization that we don't strive for quality, in general, but rather, the MBA-inspired and CEO-approved term of productivity. I work for an IT company, whose products are obviously produced in Asia and the Pan-Asian handle. However, getting back to the bit about our home, am I the only one that thinks a great many of our companies are out to build the homes of today on the cheap, in order to make a lot of money ? Not only that, but it also goes without saying that those people involved with the process of building our homes and many other of our infrastructure projects are not given the conditions necessary to exercise their jobs in a manner where they can improve their craft to where they become, like during the Renaissance, masters in their field.
Nowadays, if you can save a company money, like our good friend Al Dunlap was with Sunbeam, you suddenly are rewarded by the board of directors with a massive salary and even bigger bonus... What have you done to ensure the long term survival of your firm, but most importantly, your people ? That is what I feel most of modern politicians don't grasp. Yes, the senior management of any large Fortune 500 company can donate vast amounts of money to your compaign, expecting that you vote in their favor come policy or bill drafting time. That said, what about the workers of those companies ? The collective purchasing power of that mass of people employed by those Fortune 500 companies has been diminishing for some time now (since Reagan).
I have no problem with you making a large sum from the stock options (as long as they are not illegaly back dated so that you can basically appear to have made the best financial desicion for yourself, with the benefit of hindsight), but what about also giving the workers a share in that productivity increase ? The software engineers, the welders, the mechanics, the doctors, the nurses, the teachers, and everyone else who spends a lifetime studying or learning to become great at what they do. Shouldn't all these people expect some kind of financial reward for their efforts ?
I hear many conservatives rail against the liberal agenda of sharing the wealth as being patently unjust, unfair and against market principles. However, did the market cause Bear Stearns to collapse or was it fraud (the latter is more like it, but those responsible might not be held accountable for years), in which case, there is always an easy excuse to whisk away the lasting and pervasive devastation that this collapse has wrought. I, for one, wouldn't mind scaling down from $100 Million a year to maybe $1 or $2 Million, because at what point does the greed that supposedly drove you to the top, also drown out the noble efforts of others that enabled you to accomplish your goals ?
I harken back to the argument that your fortune wasn't made out of thin air, but rather, you benefited from our systems in place, such as the public schools, the clean air you breathed along the way, the highways, the public servants that took your patent applications, etc. It's time that this idea of the market fixing all our worries was exposed for the fraud that it is. I know, certain special circumstances have prevented from that theory from being fully expressed.
I have only one thing to say about this. My parents escaped a communist country on foot and hiked the mountains of Italy to seek refuge in the west. Sure, as a now staunch neo-conservative high school acquaintance of mine told me about the noble idea of communism at time, it's a great idea, but never realizing that once applied with people, certain variables shifted the end result dramatically. I just wish we could all be a little better informed about our government, its failings and how all of us might be best suited to pitch in.
But returning to the idea that quality appears to have left our daily pursuit for productivity, leads, sales and many other financially-measured motivations, can we incorporate other elements like sustainability and quality into the model ? I wonder.
Cheers,
k

I was sitting in a local bar watching Barack on the television. Next to me was a Rupublican who won't vote for Obama because he thinks Barack will raise taxes on people like him. We couldn't agree on much, except that Dubya has been a disaster. When Barack took the stage and started speaking, I said "It's a wonderful thing that a young black man can be nominated to the highest seat in the land. We've come a long way as a country." The gentleman next to me lifted his pint and said "Amen to that brother!"
It was an inspirational moment.

McCain camp responds
DENVER -- John McCain's campaign has released its response to Barack Obama's speech here tonight. The statement, attributed to spokesman Brian Rogers, reads:
Tonight, Americans witnessed a misleading speech that was so fundamentally at odds with the meager record of Barack Obama. When the temple comes down, the fireworks end, and the words are over, the facts remain: Senator Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year, and still voted against funds for American troops in harm's way. The fact remains: Barack Obama is still not ready to be President.
― Alex Koppelman

it's a good move because the (R) won't compromise so they won't get what they want.

I lived under intense bombing several times when I was a child and again when I became adult, the people living under the bombing feel much differently from people who operate the bombers, just in case you haven't noticed that. I don't say McCain didn't suffer, obviously he did as a POW, but he is not the only one in the universe, and it is not an excuse neither evidence of opinions. being under war, I support war in some contexts when there are no other options left, but I think it is not a joke, or appropriate for a song.
McCain showed well beyond doubt that he is like Bush or even worst, cares nothing about diplomacy, at least Bush tried to see the "soul" in Putin, McCain even before Georgia invasion, he was talking about kicking Russia out of G8. whatever you think about Russia, you should try diplomacy with them and not lecturing them or provoking them or threatening them, they are not kids, they are a sovereign nation too with plenty of nuclear weapons, does McCain think it is appropriate to make more enemies to the US when the War On Terror even haven't been won? Do you think it is wise to make more enemies?
Can anyone tell me the need for the missile defense system in eastern Europe in a rush way disregarding Russia concerns? I know Russia is bad, but why not try to engage them into diplomacy instead of going ahead with your plannings anyway.

It's all about profit and politics.
First, it's provocative of Russia. If peace breaks out a lot of "American" military-industrial corporations will stop making obscene profits, and creating fear of Russia by provoking Russia will be very profitable for them.
Second, the missile defense system doesn't work (shh!) but it is a VERY expensive ongoing military industrial project with an open ended budget and no time limit for completion, so by making it "necessary" the military industrial profiteers guarantee their project will continue to be funded.
And third, it's election season, and McCain's perceived "strength" is foreign policy - specifically, talking tough to get his supporters all worked up.
But - as you question implies - it is an act of insanity if world peace and prosperity are your goals.

I almost posted the same sentiment about the retired nurse.
She - and maybe a couple of dozen "ordinary citizens" like her - were the "glue" that held the whole convention together. They provided the reality check that brought all the high-minded words right back down to the ground.
I watched all of all four days on c-span and heard from posters here how badly the MSM talked over and chopped up the major speeches, and heard that they completely left out precisely these "ordinary citizen" moments.

You can destroy any dumbass argument for a missile defense system in europe with two words: PATRIOT MISSILES. We have had them for 27 years. It has been 17 years since they were PROVEN WORTHLESS in an actual WAR. The only things they've ever shot down in combat have been ALLIED AIRCRAFT. And...we're STILL spending money on them! Thus, it's a PERFECT example of the military-industrial complex in action. Junk that costs too much, increases world tensions, and worst of all, doesn't even DO what it's supposed to do.
There is absolutely NO REASON to put an anti-missile defense system in EUROPE. 1. It doesn't work. 2. If the Russians fired even TACTICAL nuclear weapons at europe (which they could easily do from an altitude below the range of any anti-missile system) the fallout would end up in Russia anyway. They may as well just blow the damned things up in the silos, and save the rocket fuel.
I can sort of half way buy the argument that an anti-missile system might be useful for the U.S. in the event of the odd rogue state accidentally firing a missile. Okay. If you think the odds of that happening justify the 500 billion dollars that it would cost to develop the system, then go for it. But putting one in europe as a 'defense' against Russia is a joke. Russian missiles are not a threat to europe. Russian tanks, maybe.

Thanks for the link - I picked it up from one of the other threads & read it.
Right after the major combat ended either Medyedev or Putin said they figured Cheney was behind Saakashvili’s decision to shell Tshkinvali.
I think Putin is spot-on; I’ve agreed with him before he said it!!
But I’d go one step further. It wasn’t just a campaign trick to help McCain get elected. It was another effort by the Neocons to destabilize the region to ensure there will be plenty of conflict for them to continue to manipulate for their profit.
Poland rushed to initiate the “Missile Defense Shield” - a highly provocative move, but also sheer lunacy from a realistic perspective. The American Missile Shield is an enormous defense department boondoggle. It doesn’t work, but it is an open ended project with unlimited spending potential.
Sikorski - American Enterprise Institute, then Poland’ Minister of Defense.
Very tight little group rocking the boat - for profit.
Absolute best part of the speech: obama wiping smirk off bill the bloody kristol 's face on faux news.
I also wanted to give a big hug to Barney Smith...
The pundits quacked their duckspeak, but I'm inspired. It's after midnight and I'm making preserves (figs are in season here).
Happy 72nd Birthday, McCain -- give yourself a present called RETIREMENT.
MountainMan23 @ 83:
i think that's an interesting point.......destabilizing the region....this i believe is the same off/on strategy in the middle east. now they trying to get iran to bite.
It may be called a missile defense system, but as with SDI, it can be used offensively. The standoff in the 80s with Russia was the result of the doctrine of mutually assured destruction. The last thing America needs is John McCain in a dick-swinging contest with Putin. Yecch!

" I think Putin is spot-on; I've agreed with him before he said it!! " WOOOW - why do you think KGB Putin is your guy ? Like boosh, you can read his mind ??!
Mr ARMCHAIR Expert: You are quite PATHETIC in your SUPERFICIAL bs 'analysis'.
Which US NON-right-wing think-tank offered these people ANY chance to get into Western ways of thinking after FIVE decades under the Soviet yoke ? Can you name ONE ? Who were the fellow/scholarships offered to, of what duration?
Sikorski is married to Anne Applebaum, with whom he attended Oxford Uni in the UK. her parents are wealthy Washingtonians - Sikorski and Anne had small kids and grandparents wanted to have them around - that's the link to the American Enterprise Institute. He never had a US work permit to be employed otherwise. He is considered a provincial prick in Poland (comes from a blue-collar provincial town, very low on Polish scale), but fluent in English (useful in foreign contacts), and paid his price being in opposition to the communist government. Ended up at Oxford stranded in UK when the 1981 martial law in Poland was declared, could NOT go back to Poland for over 10 years, would be imprisoned - was sentenced by commies in absentia.
You have not a hint what is left/ right wing here vs. Europe, and how different it's between the West and Eastern Europe. And, still different in Scandinavia. All the flavors.
What's wrong with Columbia Law School ? What's wrong that these people long for independence from Soviets/Russia ?
What are your degrees/experience that you are such an expert in international affairs? What foreign languages do you use, what level ?
And, one has to be lobotomized to TRUST KGB Putin, even over Darth Vader. You've lost your senses in your TUNNEL VISION.
How about Putin is manipulating the weakened US in pre-election mess to ADVANCE the Soviet/Russian LEBENSRAUM he's been consequently realizing for years ? For both domestic and international consumption. How long have you lived in
Soviets/Russia that you are so confident with your theories? How's your Russian to study the original sources ?
There is ONE common thing between the Americans and Russians: know-all-experts, knowing NOTHING, gulping propaganda for breakfast. No other nationalities display such instant arrogance. It became much worse under boosh.
Obama has the good sense to get it all, hopefully the message will trickle down: study/think first, maybe some day you will become more knowledgeable.
Forgive me. One more time because the RNC is the subject of this thread:
Introducing the
REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION DRINKING GAME!
In order to truly enjoy the RNC convention, invite some friends over and follow these simple rules:
1) Every time a major speaker avoids even mentioning George Bush or Dick Cheney in their speech to avoid reminding people that McCain is of the party who brought you the last eight years, take 1 drink.
2) For every major speech that includes a reference to McCain having been a POW in Vietnam (because, you know, you may not have heard…), take 1 drink. *NOTE: PLEASE JUST 1 DRINK PER MAJOR SPEECH; WE DON”T WANT TO KILL ANYONE!
3) For every major speech that FAILS to harp about family values to avoid reminding voters that Obama is still married to his first wife and is devoted to his kids while McCain is an adulterer divorced from his wheelchair-bound wife, is estranged from his children, and married to his home-wrecking mistress…take 1 drink
4) For every major speech that STILL tries to blame Clinton for problems eight years later, take 1 drink
5) For every major speech that trumpets McCain’s support of “The Surge” but fails to mention ANY of his previous positions that: A) Iraq will be an easy conflict; B) We’ll be greeted as liberators; C) Iraq presents a WMD threat to the U.S. D) Afghanistan needs no further attention because we’ve won; E) A timeline for troop withdrawal would be disastrous F) Getting troops out of Haiti soon is more important than establishing peace or democracy (why isn’t this all over Obama ads: http://video.google.com/videop.....&hl=en)…take 1 drink
6) Every time McCain flip-flops and espouses a different stand on an issue than he’s held before (Examples: Bush’s tax cuts; overturning Roe vs. Wade; climate change, immigration, etc.) take 1 drink
7) Every time a former critic reverses his position to praise, take 1 drink. Scratch that; that might kill you, too. For every five reversals, take 1 drink.
8) Finally, for every ten times someone calls Obama “inexperienced” just like they did Clinton, take 1 drink.
I promise 2 things: 1) by the end of each night, you’ll be hammered. 2) You’ll be so, so glad.
-Pass it on!
Why can't McCain just do like Bob Dole and make a new career out of pimping Viagra? At least that way he'll only be torturing his wife -- not the whole country and the rest of the world as well.
yecch, blecch!
I don't mean to drag everyone away from the Conference, but this bombshell is worth a post:

i want to know about the lobbyest secret parties that were held
i want to know why dean and the leadership allowed them to occur
i want to know that reid and pelossi will be turned out of their leadership roles
i want to know that holy joe will be kicked to the curb
i want to know that a real war crimes tribunal...not the bs trial that aquitted the marine of murder...will be held for bush, cheney and ashkroft
i want front row seats to their executions

No special knowledge here, but Putin is former KGB. I wouldn't put too much stock in this article he's a shrewd bastard and has a motive for shifting blame away from himself.
McPOW had better be very quick with the teleprompter when he gives his speech. Maybe he'll choose a green background again? One can only hope.
Mitt will have a perfect suit, but we'll all be wondering if it's dark blue, or black (as it can be hard to tell), and not hear him screeching, "DOUBLE GITMO" (every hair in place).
El Gordo @ 92:
I don’t mean to drag everyone away from the Conference, but this bombshell is worth a post:
In an interview with CNN, Putin, seen as the main force behind Russia’s hammering of Georgia, amplified conspiracy theories aired in the Russian media - that the war was created by Dick Cheney, the US vice-president, and McCain to create an international crisis and fan anti-Russian hostility that would undermine Barack Obama’s chances of getting to the Oval Office. “The suspicion arises that someone in the United States especially created this conflict to make the situation more tense and create a competitive advantage for one of the candidates fighting for the post of US president,” Putin said.
The White House said Putin’s allegations were “patently false” and the state department said it was “ludicrous” for the Russians to say they were not responsible for what had happened in Georgia.

No special knowledge here, but Putin is former KGB. I wouldn’t put too much stock in this article he’s a shrewd bastard and has a motive for shifting blame away from himself.

Bush I was CIA: isn't that the same?
I believe Putin. Where was ROVE when he was being called to testify? Georgia. And he's only a stinking FOX reporter now.
All you lib-labs need to chill out. He forgets how many houses he has. So what? He's old. Let's see what you remember when you're 72. I explain it all for you here.
First Cindy has no sisters, now Johnny McAlzheimer can't remember he has sons. Support our troops?
I truly hate the media. I hate them. The only thing they have revealed at the convention is that they hate anyone opposing the reichwing agenda and that they have absolutely no respect for the american people.
TrePorcellini @ 72:
No matter how Russians are aggressive, there should be more diplomacy, may be if their economy become more open and their wealthy people had more interests to keep around the world, they will keep their government in check better. because the missile system will never keep them in check, it only provides them with an excuse and nationalism fuel. Russian can destroy the system in their neighborhood, in matter of hours I guess. US will never help Poland if attacked, who wants to enter a war with a country armed with too many nuclear warheads and inter continental missiles? Not even Bush, Bush can't give up his golf for such a war. but maybe McCain, he lose nothing anyway, he is 72 , he've seen it all and enjoyed wealth, two women, children, media and fame, why he would care if the world got messed up because of him?
"Putin invaded POLAND!!.
President McCain: What? Germany did it AGAIN!! Nuke Germany NOW!!. Call Merkel of the Soviet Union, let them help us.... my friends I knew president Putin of Germany would do that. "
President Bush and John McCain might not be at the Republican Convention this year. Both are waiting to see if their needed in the Gulf Coast as the Storm comes. Remember the area changed after Katrina and many Republicans got the property from those who couldn't afford to repair. Yes it the Government sold property for one dollar as the owners were turned away. The Government is building homes for new owners and we see boats docked for enjoyment. All those that lived in the area were kicked out with nothing. Now Kanya West has proof to his statement that Bush doesn't like Black people. McCain will do the same. We watched Americans who happen to be black beg for help even so dying on TV while the Government and the President watched and did nothing for 5 days. Now that Republicans have gotten the property the Government and President are willing to step in before the Storm and use tax dollars to make sure things go well. Yes make sure those blacks pay their taxes but don't bother to help them when they need it just take what ever they have earned or shoot them in the back.
Bush Senior was CIA, but I've never heard his idiot son was. What would he have done for them? He was a drunk until 40, was a C student so we know he didn't excel at anything like math, speaks only tortured Spanish etc. I just don't see it.
Then there's the little matter of the legality of doing this. I know Bush isn't much on the concept, but this would be serious shit and he has to know that if Obama wins, this would have the potential to come out. If it did, this would be an open and shut case of high treason. He could be put to death for it. Junior has lots of courage with other people's lives but never his own, I just don't think there's anything to this except Putin playing mind games with the press.
what the hell is going on, all the democrats speaking seem to be in monotone, they dont seem to me to be really into what they r doing anymore.....something is weird?
this entire deal sucks
Excellent! I just just hope the system isn't too far gone already that even Obama is unable to Change it.

(Repeat of my post right after the Event)
I Watched the GREAT Scene from Denver in a hotel lounge here in Chiang Mai. The place was packed with Germans, Brits, Aussies, Americans, Indians (dot) and an assortment of others. The place just went crazy, I fortunately live two blocks away and could escape the crowd right after.
USA … The World is Watching and Hoping for the same change you are.
I couldn’t believe the response of so many people not from the USA, but from all over the World.
Has anyone seen LA Confidential since he flipped over to the our side after the speech?
What the heck can they say at the RNC? They can't say they support Bush. They can't say they oppose Bush. All they can say is
"The surge is working"
"The surge rules"
"Patriotism rules"
"American Americans are great Americans"
"Obama sucks"
"Obama sucks"
"A couple of economic numbers that don't matter to normal people were sorta good, if you pick the time window carefully enough"
That doesn't fill a lot of time.
Daily Reading pt 1...
First off...must say, that last night was excellent. Great speeches, great atmosphere and in a word...hope. Now its up to all of us, especially the progressives to push Obama to keep his promises and change the direction of the country. The best way we can do that is to elect as many Progressive Democratic reps and Moderate Democratic reps in the House & Senate. The GOP will do everything they can to block leglislation, hopefully our new Majority Leader Hillary Clinton will be able to play political theater along with the Republicans and make sure the general public knows who is blocking action... Short daily today, but I hope everyone has a great weekend and get involved, stay active, and take our country back!

a good topic for the Repugs to debate in front of the worlds cameras in Minneapolis.
and of course Afghanistan the forgotten war/occupation, 'Katrina' New Orleans the forgotten people 50% who still are displaced with their NOLA homes still wrecked or missing, oil company profits, stock market tanking, weak dollar.
NBC News has just reported that Pawlenty has been told he WON'T be the VP nominee.

'our' or 'other' !?
NOw they're saying that the Mittster won't be there today either.
Who might it be?
Sounds like Romney is out as veep. They are talking about it perhaps being Sarah Palin of Alaska. If it is her, talk about pandering to women.
They are also saying Pawlenty is out.

which means Lieberman+Hagee as VP nominee, let the fun begin :)
ferrofluid (Obama + Biden = 2008) @ 117:
Egads, what a thought for so early in the morning. But for some reason I'm laughing at the fun it might be.
I swear, I have a buzz left over from Obama's speech. Can't remember when I felt this good about the political world and life in general.
ZBig on Obama's cabinet shortlist is a problem, though. he's a Tri-Lateral warmonger in the mold of a neocon.
The one moment in the GOP convention that I'm waiting for is the last night, after Mccain's acceptance speech where the crowd always goes into their "Four more years! Four more years!" chant. It'll be interesting to see if they have the kahunas to do it this year. Of course, if they don't, that sends a message loud and clear of what they think about their own product.
I'm not sure I can stomach watching the RNC convention.
When the oldest celebrity in the world calls the "biggest celebrity in the world" not ready to lead, that lady announcer just makes my skin crawl in those McSame attack ads on Obama and his so-called celebrity status.
Seems Gustav isn't the only Swedish-named visitor this week. Their Social Democratic Party leadership apparently attended the Democratic Convention for a crash-course in American politics. Mona Sahlin, their leader (and probable next PM), expressed admiration for the strong grassroots organization of Obama's campaign.
(Sahlin also expressed bewilderment at the American fixation with personality and family in politics, since, as she explained, it'd be unthinkable in her country for her non-politician husband to get on the stage with her)
Of course, what with Sweden being Scandinavia and all, even their current conservative (by their standards) Prime Minister is an Obama supporter.
Gotta love 'em.
http://store.johnmccain.com/v/vspfiles/photos/PNR2879-2.jpg
Whoops.
great ad!
MSNBC is reporting that Republicans are considering postponing their convention if Gustav hits NOLA hard.
There is also lots of speculation that Alaska Governor Sara Palin may be McSame's Veep pick. A private jet from Alaska landed at a small local airport last night and unloaded some people, including a woman and two kids.
It makes sense; he wants to steal as many Hillary supporters as possible, and a woman on the ticket would sway some fence-sitters.
over on the mccain blogs, there is frequent use of the acronym BOHICA (bend over here it comes again) followed by "McCain '08!" by supporters. so, they are essentially equating a mccain presidency with sodomy, which is odd, because that is what most of us would equate it to as well.
pissed off patricia @ 115:
He'd also be pandering to guys like me who thinks she's tough as nails and as hot a woman politician as there is, patricia. He'd also be pandering to voters who like executive experience, and voters who like their candidates to have respect for the unborn, or in the case of Obama's Born Alive Infants Protection Act vote, respect for the born, too.
She has a lot going for her in too many respects for it to be called pandering.
McCain adviser on issue of health insurance:
But the numbers are misleading, said John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right-leaning Dallas-based think tank. Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care.)
"So I have a solution. And it will cost not one thin dime," Mr. Goodman said. "The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care.
"So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved."

Gov. Sarah Palin is McCain's VP choice. What does this mean for the Obama Camp?
Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton
What makes Palin qualified to be Commander in Chief?
Isn't she under investigation in Alaska?
Kelly O'Donnell from MSNBC wants you to know that we may have had some inexperience questions about any one of MCain's other picks - but not Ms. Palin.
Oh really?
American people have nothing to say about an inexperienced wealthy white woman -who was only Governor for 18months -under investigation by her own state's official?
But that's OK - John really just wanted another secretary anyway- someone to "inquire after his health".
Actually, her questionable eithics and wealthy oil and gas pals make her the epitome of a female Dick Cheney.
And you thought it was just going to be 4 more years of Bush??
dennis @ 131:
Still hoping to get "Property of the State" stamped on all uteruses, huh, lil' d?
This is a gimmick pick, pure and simple. It's like McCain is trying to throw it away, even though he knows he can't lose.
Rusty Shackleford @ 138:
That vote is gonna be problematic for him, Rusty. I'm sure McCain saw an opening big enough to drive a truck through with Obama's horribly weak 'above my grade' reply to Rick Warren at the Saddleback Conference. She had her baby knowing he had Down's Syndrome, so she walks the walk, too, even though I don't think she's been an outspoken proponent of abortion rights.
Plus, she is Aitch-Oh-double T with 3 exclamation points, Russ. I don't know to what extent, but the youth vote will tilt back R's way with this pick. Kids are still very visual, at least the guys.
Not a gimmick. Not at all. Very smart and very sound pick.
McCain may have stolen Change, but you still have Hope.
Meant to say 'opponent of abortion rights'.
McCain picks Palin.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/08/mccain-palin-vp.html
Actually a pretty good strategy to capture the more moderate Hillary supporters.
dennis @ 139:
I've already told ya who's gonna win, lil' d, and why. Why are you still fretting over all this? Why the fear?
But I'll grant you that Palin is attractive. Cindy better watch her back. They say a leopard never changes his spots. Good thing she insisted on that pre-nup, huh?
As for the "infanticide" vote, let us know when that gets traction with the general public. I don't think it's even reached Ayres-level awareness yet. And nobody outside the Hannity fanboy choir is paying any attention to that.
Rusty Shackleford @ 142:
Russ- I think Obama still wins easily, this just makes it interesting. Why do you mock me with what will be important. You did it with the John Edwards.National Enquirer stuff. I told you, I'm not big on abortion rights, but a lot of people are, and the ones who are, are excited by this pick... Evangelicals go bonkers for this pick.
And just take a gander at some of these scorned Hillary supporters, Rust. Hell hath no fury...
dennis @ 143:
I know you're not big on abortion rights, lil' d. You're always careful to point out that you personally aren't concerned with whatever the subject is of your attempted smear, but that you know many who are. That's good trolling strategy. Golf clap.
But I'm glad that Gov. Palin is going to bring the "family values" discussion into the forefront in this race. I'm sure that's a discussion that Sen. Obama would love to engage Sen. McCain on. For that I applaud his pick.
