Pakistan leader slams US after border gunfire

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) — Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari lashed out at the United States after their troops traded gunfire sparked by claims Pakistan forces shot at two US helicopters for alleged violation of airspace on the border with Afghanistan.

The US military said the helicopters were within Afghanistan territory providing cover for patrols in pursuit of militants when it came under fire from Pakistani troops, resulting in the exchange of gunshots by the two sides.

Pakistan's military said its troops fired warning shots at the helicopters, which it insisted were "well within Pakistani territory."

In a speech to the UN General Assembly, Zardari said Pakistan would not tolerate violations of its sovereignty, even by its allies.

"Just as we will not let Pakistani's territory to be used by terrorists for attacks against our people and our neighbors, we cannot allow our territory and our sovereignty to be violated by our friends," he said without citing the United States or the border flareup.

"Unilateral actions of great powers should not inflame the passion of allies," he further said, cautioning that any cross border raids could be counterproductive.

his eyelids have become so puffy, it's hard to believe he can see much of anything these days.

i don't think he's quite built for the modern era. and i DO think he's still a little flummoxed over the drubbing he and his wife-in-name-only received in the primaries.

he's still a heck of a lot smarter than say, james imhofe, but he's got nothing on john negroponte.

(i don't know if some of you out there quite get why i'm a negroponte fan. it's because he is literally one of the smartest men in america. i'm not convinced he can shoot lightning bolts out of his arse like braveheart, or demolish mountains with the click of a mouse, but i know he can beat dick cheney in chess. or checkers. or connect four.)

Classic dialog. Carter started America on the road away from oil dependence. Now, we borrow tens of billions from the Chinese to pay the Arabs for oil to power our cars to go shopping at Walmart for things made in China. Somewhere between this bankrupting behavior, we are also supposed borrow more from China to give to just a relative few who lost 10% of our GDP.

Don't have to be a Republican to stick one of those on. It would drive Rush and the other rightards if Democrats all started putting these on their vehicles. Kind of reminds me of an old story about two politicians, a Conservative and a Liberal who share a cab to Parliament. When they get out of the cab the Liberal offers to pay for the fare, gives the cabby a twenty dollar tip and says: Remember, vote Liberal. As they're walking in he says to the Conservative: I always do that. Votes are where you find them. The Conservative replies: Yea I do something like that except I stiff them on the tip and say: Vote Liberal.

Cops are pretty much the same everywhere. Our Mounties pulled a similar piece of stupidity a couple of weeks ago. The had a drunk underage female in custody. Apparently she pushed one of the officers so a bunch of them held her down while one administered multiple crotch shots with a taser to teach her some manners. Naturally they've investigated themselves and, surprise, determined that the tasering was within the guidelines for proper use.

Paulson Retreats on Pay, Equity Measures in Bailout

it's kinda funny how a rotten-child family can spend 228 years building a pyramid, only to have the whole thing go down like a house of cards just as the last brick is about to be set in place.

But will they? They know Obama is going to kill them, as will most dems in the downstreams. Did you watch this video about military being brought back from Iraq to patrol US streets? I keep asking myself why. Well, does anyone think that these neocon assholes are going to let this happen?

I am more and more fearful for Obama's life...and the result should anything happen to him.

I think by the constitution, that it is illegal for them to use the military but, when has that stopped them before?

i pray for obama every day. i also pray for mccain, cheney, rumsfeld and many others.

prayer might be total bull$#!+, but i figure, why not, it can't hurt.

CBS News reports that McCain’s alternative proposal includes “fewer regulations and corporate tax breaks”

Isn’t that what caused all this in part? What happened to his new found “regulator” bullshit?
========

I caught that too.

It's totally pro-banking industry: US Treasury take over role of insuring the banking industry's worthless paper (that's what this is all about - the industry's insurers can't cover their losses) PLUS fewer regulations PLUS additional corporate tax breaks.

WTF ???

Regarding John McCain's erratic behavior and his "eye" thing which no one was explaining to me what it could be a symptom of.. Well I found a possible answer over at Reddit...

"McCain has had a mini-stroke. Think about it. Recently, a rumor floated out into the ether that McCain had had a stroke. Then, he's suddenly off tv, needed to "help fix the economy". DOES NOT want to debate, and sat very quietly in the White House meeting today....

update-addressing the reporters after the WH meeting, he sounded slightly confused and very subdued.

I hope he's taking care of himself. If He's not doing well he should really take it easy."

it's impossible to describe how deranged it is trying to understand what the hell is going on in this country (except to know that the BushFelons are robbing us once again). I thought a moment of sobriety may be in order by getting a British view of the matter:

"I would sum up his two terms in four words: hubris followed by nemesis. . . .

"The irony of the Bush years is that a man who came into office committed to both celebrating and reinforcing sovereign, unbridled national power has presided over the weakening of that power in all three dimensions: military, economic and soft. . . .

"The massive, culpable distraction of Iraq, Bush's war of choice, leaves the US - and with it the rest of the west - on the verge of losing the war of necessity. Here, resurgent in Afghanistan and Pakistan, are the jihadist enemies who attacked the US on September 11 2001. By misusing military power, Bush has weakened it.

"Economically, the Bush presidency ends with a financial meltdown on a scale not seen for 70 years. The proud conservative deregulators (John McCain long among them) now oversee a partial nationalisation of the American economy that would make even a French socialist blush. . . .

"As for the decline in American soft power, . . . [h]is arrogance, his unilateralism, his insensitivity, his long-time denial of the need for urgent action on climate change: all fed directly into the plummeting credit of the US around the world. It would have been a different story with a different president.

Maybe that's why he's not as involved in this election as some might want him to be. He just looks like a man whose time has past him by. Whatcha' think?

Well, he's not young, but he's younger than McCain.

I didn't think he looked that bad. He still has it. He gave a pretty rousing speech at this Millennium thing today. See my link above.

wtf is Willy doing lately with excusing and understanding McCain's debate bailout? The way he can barely bring himself to even mention the name Barak leaves no doubts

.
This guy has a good answer

A Note to Bill Clinton

,.......We see your rage, Bill, it's too huge to hide. We see that -- as Chris Rock so brilliantly pointed out -- it pains you to even speak Obama's name. We see you petulantly rooting against him even as you go through the motions of doing the barest minimum on his behalf to avoid being blamed if he loses.

You're not fooling anyone, Bill. You've gotten so caught up in yesterday that you've stopped thinking about tomorrow.
..................
If Obama loses a close election -- one in which even one state where you could have made a difference goes for McCain because you sat home and pouted -- it will be on you. We will remember that you couldn't be bothered to rise above your petty resentments for something as trivial as saving your country from the enemies of everything you profess to believe in. We forgave you for Monica, Bill, but we won't forgive you for this.

The Washington Post have just published a newspaper story documenting the $25,000.00 worth of gifts,

that Gov. Sarah Palin has received from assorted Lobbyists with pending regulations and petitions for state money allocations.

Can we now call her Mrs Ted Stevens. And will there be investigations by the FBI GAO DoJ etc.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has made a crackdown on gift-giving to state officials a centerpiece of her ethics reform agenda, has accepted gifts valued at $25,367 from industry executives, municipalities and a cultural center whose board includes officials from some of the largest mining interests in the state, a review of state records shows.

expensive artwork

free travel for a family member

more than $2,500 in personal items from Calista, a large corporation with a variety of pending state regulatory and budgetary issues

a jewelry valued at $1,200 from a lobbyist from Nome with heavy interest in municipal, local and capital budget matters

On forms disclosing the gifts, Palin, who is the Republican vice presidential nominee, routinely checked "no"

when asked whether she was in a position to "take official action that may affect the person who gave me the gift,"

and a spokeswoman for Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign said the gifts had no undue influence on her.

I've been saying it for years. We are like ANTS. Look down some time and look at the similarities. The one thing that scares me though in the comparison is, there are so many of us and we are dispensible.
The power people are politicians, wealthy businessman and media, make no mistake about it. They can make things happen, make things known as to what they want you to know.
Thie closing of this movie was amazing. It reminds me of that scene in Hunt For Red October when the captain says to the KBG admiral........"Your arrogance has killed us".

Bush May Be Stupid, But He's No Fool: The Bailout and the Final Repeal of the 20th Century

As I write this, there has been no bailout passed and enacted, no $999 gazillion dollars has been deposited directly into Henry Paulson's off-shore account, and no CEOs in the last 48 hours have been granted $800 septillion dollar bonuses for turning their once-vibrant companies into a fecal smear. And yet, friends, as John McCain might say, my friends, look at the Big Board: The Dow is up 200 points in lively trading and we're back up over the 11,000 mark. So forgive me for asking, but: Is this particular Handout (I mean Bailout, sorry!) really necessary? As electoral-vote.com put it this morning:

As electoral-vote.com put it this morning:

When you read that this "crisis" is about economics, don't believe a word of it. It is 100% politics, pure and simple. Yes, something needs to be done, but if the markets know that Congress is working on it, they will wait a few weeks before dissolving in a puddle.

McCain: the temperament/judgment to be president? What can we conclude so far?
- He chooses an inexperienced running mate when he knows his health is an issue, putting politics before country
- He injects himself into a delicate crisis to politically grandstand and derail the negotiations, again putting politics before country
- He sacrifices moderate positions on women's rights and other issues to garner republican base votes, putting politics before his own principles and his country

McCain will be shown to be a temperamental, impulsive decision maker, dangerous for this country, dangerous for the world, with a cynical self-serving personality.

The movie "The Unforgiven" teaches us
.............................in time, every bully picks the wrong fight!
For the USA, it's there....right around the corner. The corner being November 4th.
