Bang Bang Update

Thanksgiving weekend seems like a weird time to bring up something morbid, but maybe there's no better time of the year to memorialize all the Americans who can't say thanks this year because of guns. Especially after today's shootings in Colorado.

Today's shootings started at a Planned Parenthood center, and, even though there were armed cops, it went on for 5 hours. The 5 hours is crucial. That means that tomorrow, Republicans won't be able to say that the shooter would have been stopped immediately if everyone in Colorado had a gun. The armed cops obviously had guns. And it still took them a while.

Their backup argument might be that it wouldn't have happened if Planned Parenthood didn't exist. And they might even say that Planned Parenthood caused the whole thing because there are women in the world with reproductive organs. Or that Eve ate an apple a few thousand years ago when the universe happened, so there.

But it's more grave than that. Regardless of when the universe happened, and Planned Parenthood aside, we have a lot of gun victims in this country who didn't have a way to say thanks this Thanksgiving.

There's about about 12,000 people who didn't say thanks in 2015 because they died at the end of a gun. About 1,200 of them died from police bullets.
