In the crowded MAGA field of America-haters, Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville stands out. For one thing, the Florida resident can’t be bothered to actually live in the state he claims to represent in Congress.
But it’s his blockade of almost 400 military officers’ promotions, because he doesn’t like the military's support for women’s reproductive rights, that really distinguishes him. The Pentagon and even his fellow Republicans got fed up with him for endangering our military readiness.
And when a Marine Corps commandant had a heart attack after doing two jobs, how did Tuberville react? By ducking the personal responsibility Republicans are always demanding of others.
To top it all off, Tuberville eventually caved. The Defense Department’s policy is still in place and he "accomplished nothing," The New Republic pointed out. “The only difference is that now, all of the department leadership and pretty much every other senator is angry with him.”
It looks like the officers whose promotions were delayed thanks to Florida-Man Tuberville are getting back pay, too.
