Wouldn't it be amazing if Harry got fired up? Ready to go?

No more Mr. Peabody, Harry.

Go get 'em, Harry !. Give 'em hell !. Sock it to 'em Harry !. Knock their blocks off !

It's his boy, Sherman. He could probably use a visit to the Mustang Ranch and Peabody wants to shut it down? Peabody's being such a dog.

I guess i should have used 'Walter Mitty', but something about Harry and his glasses made me think of Dr. Peabody. But then again, Harry also looks a bit like Sherman, so i'm confused. Let's just say they all look somewhat alike and leave it at that....8(0)

Americans are now in far worse shape than the citizens of a nation without any news media at all.

Well, yes and no.

On the one hand, yes, the news media is absolutely terrible.

On the other, for the first time in this nation's history, the news media is not the only source of information. We don't have to rely on the newspapers or the TV talking heads anymore, we can get the information straight from the source, as it happens.

Ape-Man's picture

Well ya, thank god for the internet and the social networking that it facilitates.

It will take some doing to ween everyone off the corporate TV news though. In the mean time they will continue to masquerade as the fourth estate that they once were, and that makes them a powerful destructive force.

Americans have plenty of news available, but citizens need to take an interest first, and then seek out the right news (which is NOT on teevee.) Also, people (everywhere) seem gullible to believe what they see on TV, like there's some kind of rule it must all be truthful. The teevee is an entertainment box, not a truth machine.

Teabagger asks: why do freeway construction jobs in california take so long? The DMV why is the service so shitty? The Post Office is losing money. The bagger blames the public sector unions.

I suppose with regards to the post office the teabagger is thinking about the inability of the p.o. to close offices because of previously negotiated union contracts, but this would ignore that the initial reason for the p.o. "losing" money has more to do with email and other form of communication that make traditional mail "obsolete".

Also, with the DMV and freeway construction jobs in california.

How should I debunk and/or what should be my rebuttal?

fiver's picture

Are you trolling? Tough job for a lefty.

But why accept a teabagger's "facts"? Do California projects take longer than necessary? Are they being done by public sector union workers? Are private contractors doing the work and making more money with the delays - and maybe with non-union labor?

But moreover, this isn't a "are unions good or not" debate. The solution to problems with unions isn't getting rid of unions - it's addressing those problems. Is the teabagger willing to debate problems with the private sector on the same basis a he/she is with unions? Do problems in the private sector justify the conclusion that the private sector is bad and should be eliminated? Should problems with "management" be debated to determine if management is bad and should be eliminated? Of course not.

It's a faulty premise. A problem with something is a problem that should be addressed. The baby shouldn't be tossed out with the bath water.

Just some thoughts. Good luck.

syme's picture

check my cred, if there is such a way.

I thought i might come off as a troll. But no...

I made the point to the bagger that he should not be angry with those who are wise enough to realize that they have mutual self interest and through that self interest they create unions and are able to bargain for better wages.

Also made the point that being union allows one to get paid for the work one does, to which he responded with the crap about freeways and dmv and post office, i suppose to "show" how these unionized places all have crappy labor and they don' t do the work they get payed for.

Your right, I shouldn't take what baggers say as facts.

(And yeah, you can check that by how long a poster has been here and other comments they've made. Just click on a commenter's "name").

I meant trolling on RedState or such. In other words, being the lone lefty in a crowd of righties. It's tough. It's not their arguments, those are simple, It's their volume - both in the amount of attackers and the constant use of allcaps. I've done it and still have some valid nom de guerres stashed here and there. I'm also pretty sure I've seen Alerta_Alerta giving them hell in there own space. But it's tough.

Sorry I put it so poorly. I've been doing a lot of that today, Oops.

Corruption favors the wealthy.

syme's picture

It was my mistake, I didn't observe the context of the question.

But, nah. It was a facebook bagger. I don't really go on any of those right wing toilets.
I don't think people of the left are physically, emotionally, or intellectually capable of being trolls. Mainly because being a troll requires one to suspend one's grasp on reality. Lefties have an annoying habit of needing to bust through the cognitive dissonance of reichwing rags, rendering their awesome logical prowess useless!

It was my fault for not reading twice or thrice.

ron's picture

complicated issue to deal with. Sometimes you drive by a site and see 1/2 dozen guys standing there waiting for 1 guy to complete a job but they can't do anything until that person is done. Then you have an operator that can proceed and a truckdriver who can back up and load or unload. These guys have the system down to where most of them are pretty busy most of the time. If you go into a supermarket or Home Depot you will see some of the same type of behaviour. Most likely you will even see it in a Wal-Mart but I won't because I refuse to go into a Wal-Mart.

the post office. I even renewed my passport (just in case I need to flee) and did it right in the office, they took the photo, did the mailing. There can't be another service in the U.S. you can get so much for so little.

DMV's are horrible, but much better if you take the time to make an appointment.

As for road construction, you got me. They've been working on this two mile stretch of the 71 for at least the past 6 years and it looks like they've got at least another two to go. Seriously, I think they're using sporks.

The "poor service at the DMV" or "how long it takes for CalTrans to fix stuff" they are all based on qualitative arguments, and those are never meant to be won. So the easiest way to tackle these sort of arguments is to request the usual teabagger to provide actual statistics with DATA to back up their assertions. This is, the only way to conduct a proper discussion in these matters is under quantitative grounds, not qualitative.

E.g. can they provide a study in which private contractors have been shown to finish large scale projects, like the ones tackled by CalTrans, offering better quality, speed, cost, etc? Also Freeway construction jobs are a fairly complex endeavor in terms of the blame game, since they involve large number of private contractors and vendors. Not just CalTrans personnel.

CTHULHU 2012 "Why vote for a lesser evil?"

ron's picture

if not all of the construction is bid out to "Private" contracters.. The only things that the government is involved in is the planning and supervision. They don't own equipment that can perform the job. Tere is no government construction job that isn't done by private industry.

Governors speak out against state cuts. Hollywood rallies for unions. Ruffalo hopes to ruffle the frackers with blue pin. Academy doesn't consider companies which try to shut down documentary to be a gas. Via @ebertchicago, I think, Wolfoputz blames the families of the Lockerbie victims and Obama for our lax scrutiny of Gadaffi. To be "fair", he also mentions Shrub. And either @ebertchicago or @tomtomorrow noted that Newt is lying about Obama's executive role in regards to DOMA. How we're all fucked by corporatism. [Link might take a while to reload.]
Also, my ever- weekly optimisic weekly Horoscope had this to say:

Take a look around you... It's like the parents are on vacation & the kids are running the show... We're seeing all the usual problems that are to be expected... Fights... Power Struggles... (etc)... All this is because Saturn is on vacation (retrograde)... He's left town & left it up to Jupiter to mind things while he's gone... Jupiter is about as free-wheeling & self-righteous as it gets, so he encourages the "revolts" that you're seeing on principles... But soon afterwards, realizes that it hasn't got anything really better to replace things with... "Meet the New Boss... Same as the Old Boss".
With all these planets so tightly grouped in the sign of Pisces... There is so much emphasis upon theories & ideology... It's the time for dreaming new dreams... But before you start to tear things down, you have to make sure you have something much more solid & proven to replace things with or else it can begin a downward spiral really fast!! We're seeing the mirror image of that taking place out there in the Big World, the idea is not to let that madness happen in our own lives!

The best part about Saturn retrograde is that it allows us to be a lot more adventurous & experimental... As long as we're not being "reckless & erratic", the universe tends to reward our actions & efforts to build & test new ideas or possible answers/solutions that can make our own lives better. Like that one fateful day when someone had the idea & acted upon putting chocolate syrup on ice-cream, chili sauce on a hot-dog or adding bacon to a cheeseburger!! Hehee... (hey, I'm a Libra, we think in terms of food... So Pass me the olives for a change!)... hehehe...

Whether you realize it or not... This whole energy pattern is designed so you can allow your inner soul to step out & soar... The main theme is personal freedom to do & be what you've been created to become!... That's why Saturn is stepping back, so the restrictions are removed so you can truly discover that you are Nature's Greatest Miracle!!... It's like being able to leave the human-existence for once to experience what "heaven" might be like... And once you do, there is no turning back as that is a feeling you want more & more... Every day & every moment of your life!

This is one interesting transit that there is no telling where it all might lead us... (the suspense is killing me, I hope it lasts)... But what would expect when we're dealing with energy that rolls around every 20-30 thousand years or so... Anyway... Thanks for stopping by!!... (((CHEER)))... Hope you keep telling your friends about us here... and naturally, I'm sure each & every one of you are going to want to Sign Up & Become a Member!!... (wouldn't that be awesome!)... That's it for now... And as always...
