that even if there was no candidate I really liked there was always some fool I could vote against. This video puts this idea into a different perspective. There will always be a vote I need to cancel out.
Consider, for a moment, a hypothetical presidential election with two candidates - we'll call them candidate A and candidate B.
Candidate A's educational background:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899
Candidate B's educational background:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude (President of the Harvard Law Review)
Candidate A is a divorcee who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer was physically attractive enough.
Candidate B has been married only once and is a caring father to two beautiful children.
Candidate A met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair with her while he was still married.
Candidate A's wife became addicted to pain killers and acquired them illegally through fraudulent prescriptions.
Candidate B's wife graduated from Princeton and Harvard Law School
Candidate A has trouble reading from a teleprompter, and often misspeaks.
Candidate B is a charismatic, eloquent speaker.
Candidate A is old and has a creepy smile
Candidate B is young, good looking and energetic
Candidate A has military experience that includes discipline problems and a record of crashing five planes.
Candidate A has displayed publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem
Candidate A's running mate's education:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism
Candidate B's running mate's education:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)
Candidate A's running mate has a demonstrated lack of knowledge of domestic policy, foreign affairs and the US Constitution.
Candidate B's running mate has been a member of the US Senate for 36 years, and chairs the Foreign Relations Committee
Candidate A's running mate parades five children across the national stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter.
Candidate B's running mate has commuted 1 1/2 hrs each way every day for 36 years in order to be home with his family each night - which was critical when he was a single father to two young children after the death of their mother
Candidate A's platform is the same as the incumbent administration which has the lowest recorded aproval rate in history (24%), and only 8% of the country feels the nation is on the right track, specifically to reduce or eliminate programs that help lower income Americans in order to provide tax breaks for the top income (over $250K/yr) Americans
Candidate B is running on a platform of changing the direction the country is headed by reducing taxes on the middle class, providing affordable health care and education, and ending the needless occupation in Iraq
Not much to think about. If i was going to vote for someone based on the color of his or her skin i would own a firearm, eschew education, go to church if my neighbors did and expected me to, think the French were surrender monkeys, drive real fast but not very carefully, think God was on my side (whether i went to church or not), eat beef jerky, drink light beer because i like women in bikinis in commercials, not know who my Senator or Congressman was unless he was a radical liberal i hated or was instructed to hate and pick my nose in public. A lot.
I just want to say thank you to all here at C&L. You've helped keep me sane during this incredible general election season, and you gave me a lot to think (and argue--often with myself) about during the primaries.
Decided today to put everything else aside Tuesday to get people to the ballots.
The Vote Grab: Voting machines are unreliable and inaccurate
By Peter Tatchell
As early voting in the US presidential elections gets underway, ES&S iVotronics touch-screen electronic voting machines have been observed in four separate states flipping the votes (more cuts)
Democrats are not the only people who are worried. Stephen Spoonamore, a Republican security expert, explains why electronic voting is inherently unsafe (cut)
Writing in the New Statesman way back in 2004, reflecting on criticisms of the electronic voting systems used in the presidential election that year, Michael Meacher MP pointed out that statisticians, academics and political analysts had highlighted significant voting differences between electoral districts that used paper ballots and those that used electronic systems. These cannot be explained by random variation. The investigators found a much larger variance than expected and in every case it favoured George W Bush over John Kerry. (more cuts)
Research by the University of Berkeley, California, revealed election irregularities in 2004 in Florida. These irregularities, all of which were associated with electronic voting machines, appear to have awarded between 130,000 to 260,000 additional votes to Bush.
(more cuts)
(cut)
This is entirely possible, according to Clinton Curtis, a Florida computer programmer. He has confirmed that in 2000 he designed an undetectable programme for Republican congressman Tom Feeney. It was created to rig elections by covertly switching votes from one candidate to another to ensure a predetermined ballot outcome. (more cuts)
As Robert F Kennedy Jr, nephew of JFK, has exposed, the US is one of the few democracies that allow private, partisan companies to secretly count votes using their own proprietary software.
Moreover, the vast majority of western democracies have independent Election Commissions to oversee voting methods and corroborate the results. The US does not.
Most election ballots next week will be tallied or scanned by four private companies - Diebold, Election Systems & Software (ES&S), Sequoia Voting Systems and Hart InterCivic.
According to Kennedy:
Three of the four companies have close ties to the Republican Party.
(cut)
Kennedy recounts how computer scientists at Johns Hopkins and Rice universities conducted an analysis of the Diebold voting machine software source code in July 2003. "This voting system is far below even the most minimal security standards applicable in other contexts… (it is) unsuitable for use in a general election," the scientists concluded.
"With electronic machines, you can commit wholesale fraud with a single alteration of software," Avi Rubin told Kennedy. He is a computer science professor at Johns Hopkins who received $US7.5 million from the National Science Foundation to study electronic voting. "There are a million little tricks when you build software that allow you to do whatever you want. If you know the precinct demographics, the machine can be programmed to recognize its precinct and strategically flip votes in elections that are several years in the future. No one will ever know it happened."
Electronic voting machines not only break down frequently, their security and integrity is also easily compromised, says Kennedy:

There is no evidence that the voting machine malfunctions, flaws and security risks identified in the 2004 ballot have been fully corrected in time for the 2008 vote. This calls into question whether the 4 November ballot will reflect the will of the American people.
After all the proof put before the American People which confirms the Repugs have fixed elections, they still let four years go by without correcting the problem. They also let Bush and company shred the Constitution, start an illegal war which ruined hundreds of thousands of lives, torture, ruin the financial industry, etc, etc, on and on. The Democrats had their chance and blew it. Do you really think the neocons are going to let Obama win tomorrow after all the debauchery that has been committed. The Neocons have come to far to let all their evil accomplishments slid away. Yes, do vote then pray for a miracle. I predict chaos.
Few voters in the battle ground states are aware of the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline initiative. Voter confusion at the polls is a local problem that is only solved if voters are informed of their rights. The reality is that less than 4% of voters in the battleground states are aware of the fact that over 10,000 legal experts will be deployed on the ground and at the polls on election day to solve voting problems in "real time".
In response to this lack of awareness, 8 broadcast quality video clips were produced by a citizen driven campaign to get the number to the polls and made available for download at http:urteve.com.
The parts needed for your cell phone are the basis of the Congo genocide, er, "civil war". Vets are swamping care centers, and the only "solution" being touted is to cut service.
And for the election on Tuesday if a cell phone helps save ONE vote, it's one vote saved.
We can argue about the evils of minerals mined for cell phone production AFTER the election. Cuz if the wrong party wins on Tuesday due to voter tampering, you can bet that Congo War and many others will continue with lots of dead civilians. More than now.
So save your your concerns, there's a vote to be had. Don't fuck it up with side issues. There's only ONE issue as of Tuesday, and that's voting for Obama and some phreakin change.
Harumph.
And pas the phreakin Hornito's, Tequila. Yer bogarting.
If Obama is a terrorist,big spender,Muslim,too skinny,elitist,hates america,inexperienced,the wrong color,
not a U.S. citizen,only a great orrator,only a community organizer,socialist,big government guy, arab,celebrity.....WHY isn't mcLiar ahead by 15 points? we know why it's BULLSHXT. that's why.
I gotta tell you, I am so excited about Tuesday, that I can barely stand it. Due to my dumbass supervisor getting herself fired this week, I have to close the store Tuesday night and will miss alot of the nail biting. It will kill me not to be home watching if they declare a winner early. BTW, 19 of the 20 people I talked to in my store, voted for Obama here in Nevada.

joe the plumber can fxxk himself. i'm sick of his bullshxt. i would bet he's being given talking points. his
comments about israel is over the top for me. probably also a plant question/answer deal....ok maybe NOT. i just can't stand this manufactured caricature by the mcLiar campaign.
The republican idea of a cartoony role model is usually always good for a laugh as long as they don't have the power to actually influence a properly-functioning democracy.
America needs to flush lots of Tidy Bowl men (and women) just like him down the crapper in less than two days time.
First, anti-coal = sane. So, let's hope the "accusation" sticks.
Second, by my reading of the First Amendment, the Chronicle is free to "withhold" any and all remarks as they see fit. And Palin, bless her screwed-up lil' hed, is free to piss and moan and scream "ter'rist!" and throw a hot-dipped hissy-fit until the white-coats haul her away for an extended "vacation" in a rubber room.
I have no doubts that the Republicans have already flipped many machines. If the turnout is not huge, they will be able to steal this election and claim it happened because of the Bradley phenomenon. This "putsch" by the Republicans is a sham. It is designed to make people believe that this thing is close and thereby make a McCain victory more believable. The only way to combat that is to have a literal flood of people at the polling stations.
An Israeli student of Palestinian decent was arrested this weekend at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for refusing to shake the hand of Shimon Peres, the current head of state. The student explained that he refuses to shake hands with a man responsible for the killing of innocent children.
Consequently, the student was arrested, interrogated and now the University's disciplinary board is reviewing his academic status to decided whether he should be allowed to continue to attend the Hebrew University.
Indeed, Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.
Might as well write some late night comments - I don't think I'll be able to sleep much till Weds. Unless McCain wins, then I may never sleep well again!
Remember folks, it's Republican voter policy to say they'll vote/or voted for the Democratic guy, just to throw off the polling and give the Democratic leaning voters a false sense of confidence, so they won't vote. At least some Republican leaning voters are doing this. That means McCain could be in the lead right now! So VOTE!
The advertizement under the video says "Why is your stomach fat". There are others and they all make the still from the video all the more humorous.

Lou Dobbs on CNN cant believe it.
Funny how real life politics and science fail to match up to Repug propaganda.
If only the poor average 'Joe the Plumbers' out there in Repug land knew what their heros actually did, rather than said.
This Evening a few of us watched the CNNI together and we notice one thing about john mccain that stands out very much. He NEVER TOUCHES his wife or daughter or acknowledge them in any way. He acts like they are stage props and they always stand behind and no hold hands.
Obama is very different, he holds his children hands, always put his hand in small area of Micheles back and leads her in front of him. There is no doubt his family is a strong unit.
Do Any of the rest of you notice this strange psychology, or is it just me and my friends here in Chiang Mai?
Yes, I've noticed this. I saw them give each other a peck on the cheek the other day. It looked like two bricks rubbing together.
No, There isn't much amore in that family.
On the other side, Yes, that is a family unit. Obama's mother would be proud of her son. Sure, she'd be proud of him for the way he ran this campaign. But I think, she'd be the most proud of the way his family turned out. Kudo's to Michelle too.
McCain- Not so much. I imagine his family has been that way for generations. I kinda feel sorry for McCain's mom.
What an awful way to live.
A life without love,is a miserable life.
Hey, Tell that cute wife of yours I said hi.:)
I have thought the same thing. McCain clearly uses his wife as a prop for his campaigning. His daughter always looks bored during his speeches (maybe she knows somethings we don't). He doesn't seem to care about his family and it shows (except when he offered his wife as a contestant at that motorcycle convention "beauty contest" in South Dakota).
As a father of three, I am inspired by Obama's devotion to his wife and family. I just heard an interview where he said that one of the most disappointing things about the campaign was when his wife was being attacked. He loves his family and it shows.
When two people love each other you can see it in their eyes, their actions and the way they treat one another. Love is all over the place when you see the Obamas together and when their little girls are with them.
McCain makes it appear that he feels his wife is a necessary evil as part of his campaign. I see no affection between the two of them.
On Saturday Nov 1st I took part in the "Arizona Divorces McCain" rally and march on McCain's office.
Two blocks away was a McCain rally.
After the McCain rally, the drive-by heckling began.
People in huge SUVs driving by and screaming epithets.
The most popular screams,"COMMUNISTS SOCIALISTS BABY-KILLERS and TRAITORS."
One woman got out of her car and began screaming "McCAIN_PALIN" over and over again into our microphone until a Phoenix Police plainclothesman pulled her away.
Republicans: Bringing honor and dignity to the political debate....
Good morning to all. I'm jazzed about voting for Barack Obama tomorrow, and I know most of you are too
The turnout will be historic and the results will be epic.
A no nonsense young man with love of country and faith in the goodness of it's citizens, a man who worked hard with the help of a supportive family, a man with laser like focus on responsibility and honest governance, a man who has the potential to be a transformational figure not only in American affairs but in world affairs at a time in history where we need such a man.
The status quo led by the worst President and V.P. in our nations history and their willing minions for 6 years pilfered the Treasury, borrowed and spent money as if there were no tomorrow, sent our men and women off to fight a war that was foolishly flawed and ill advised, have spent every penny that I will be taxed in my lifetime and they are now well into spending away at the future of my children.
For my children and for the future of my nation I will cast my ballot for Barack Obama.
Over the weekend, here in Oklahoma, I noticed a lot of long faces. They (republicans) know it's over, let's just hope they aren't completely beyond reach.
Otherwise, this place could be an even worse place to live for a filthy librul like me.

Hundreds of soldiers are returning from Afghanistan suffering from severe and permanent damage to their hearing because of the overwhelming noise of intense combat. Nearly one in ten soldiers serving with one regiment have hearing defects that could bar them from further frontline service and affect their civilian job prospects, The Times has learnt. The number of hearing injuries is one of the untold stories of Britain’s military campaigns, evoking comparisons with the thunder of battle in the two world wars and the Korean War.

Seems that "our troops" now have trouble voting, when, back in 2000, the GOP kept coming up with still more soldiers' votes for Bush at the 11th hour and after. Many of those ballots were too late, and others were improperly filled in--but, hey, that kind of thing would kill votes only when they would have gone to Gore. (Later, it came out that Rep. worked closely with the Pentagon to get those iffy ballots rushed to Florida: a bald violation of the ban on partisan activities by the US military.)

The McCain campaign, during the 2008 election, has repeatedly attacked Barack Obama for advocating that the U.S. federal government seek more wealth equality in America, by "spreading the wealth." But McCain's running mate Sarah Palin is closely associated, as noted in a recent New York Times story, with "spiritual warfare", an aggressive approach to evangelizing developed by the leaders of a worldwide religious movement which promotes a religiously based wealth transfer scheme as a means to implement theocracy.

Go Franken!
Coleman may be better off if he loses!
joe the plumber can fxxk himself. i'm sick of his bullshxt. i would bet he's being given talking points. his

The republican idea of a cartoony role model is usually always good for a laugh as long as they don't have the power to actually influence a properly-functioning democracy.
America needs to flush lots of Tidy Bowl men (and women) just like him down the crapper in less than two days time.
cus I wanna have a beer with some one. very tough thing, every body voting, see where it got us the last two times. maybe an IQ or something.
Twist his words & then pretend the "liberal media" was trying to hide it.
SF Chronicle: Palin suggests Chronicle withheld Obama remarks
First, anti-coal = sane. So, let's hope the "accusation" sticks.
Second, by my reading of the First Amendment, the Chronicle is free to "withhold" any and all remarks as they see fit. And Palin, bless her screwed-up lil' hed, is free to piss and moan and scream "ter'rist!" and throw a hot-dipped hissy-fit until the white-coats haul her away for an extended "vacation" in a rubber room.
It's all good!
:-D
I have no doubts that the Republicans have already flipped many machines. If the turnout is not huge, they will be able to steal this election and claim it happened because of the Bradley phenomenon. This "putsch" by the Republicans is a sham. It is designed to make people believe that this thing is close and thereby make a McCain victory more believable. The only way to combat that is to have a literal flood of people at the polling stations.
And it would show the entire world that Americans care at least as much about America as the world community already does.

So, matters like these always need to be quickly hushed and buried.
No, I'm NOT an anti-semite, so please don't go there, anyone.
Anything but male on male hog copulation!
So VOTE!
If you are voting on a machine make sure that your vote went where it was intended.

The bad news is that people who worked for their money are taking a hit. The good news is that Murdoch is also a victim.
He's trying to stop a woman who lost her arm from a crappy drug from getting compensation.
Most voters lack confidence in Palin as V.P.!
One Cat, One Vote, One Beer...
I could have sworn the guy with the pregnant wife was former senator Rick Santorum.
Anyway, I can't wait to vote!!!
I dunno, seemed kind of apropos for election eve

Palin (R-Airhead): - "We realize that more and more Americans are starting to see the light there and understand the contrast. And we talk a lot about, OK, we’re confident that we’re going to win on Tuesday, so from there, the first 100 days, how are we going to kick in the plan that will get this economy back on the right track and really shore up the strategies that we need over in Iraq and Iran to win these wars"

I can tell you this on the record: Senator Joe Lieberman, who is supposed to be very close to McCain, has said this explicitly and very clearly to me personally." .. This is a startling revelation, considering McCain (R-Idiot) and Lieberman (I-but really R) have attacked politicians who have sought to engage Syria diplomatically.

Deafness is the new scourge of British troops in Afghanistan - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_sty...
Dying for Freedom? Country First?? Troops May Run Out Of Time To Vote - http://www.opednews.com/articles/Troops-may-r...
Steve Buyer, R-IN,
worked closely with the Pentagon to get those iffy ballots rushed to Florida: a bald violation of the ban on partisan activities by the US military.)

Shocking! Global Leader of Movement Closely Tied To Palin Urges 'Godly' To 'Plunder' Wealth of 'Godless.' It gets worse. This is abhorrent, ghastly religious fanaticism. - http://www.talk2action.org/story/2008/11/1/14...
Unbelievable! Two notorious Quebec comedians have pranked Sarah Palin, tricking the Republican vice-presidential nominee into thinking she was speaking with French President Nicolas Sarkozy during a Saturday afternoon phone call. It's incredible and frightful how she handled it

Now that it appears that Obama will win, what are your expectations for his first months in office? What do you think he'll do, or what policy or policies led you to vote for him (as opposed to just voting against McCain)? Please reply here or to comments@mcpheet.com. Thanks.
