Obama’s Brilliant Plan to Win Over the Undecideds
that even if there was no candidate I really liked there was always some fool I could vote against. This video puts this idea into a different perspective. There will always be a vote I need to cancel out.
Consider, for a moment, a hypothetical presidential election with two candidates - we'll call them candidate A and candidate B.
Candidate A's educational background:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899
Candidate B's educational background:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude (President of the Harvard Law Review)
Candidate A is a divorcee who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer was physically attractive enough.
Candidate B has been married only once and is a caring father to two beautiful children.
Candidate A met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair with her while he was still married.
Candidate A's wife became addicted to pain killers and acquired them illegally through fraudulent prescriptions.
Candidate B's wife graduated from Princeton and Harvard Law School
Candidate A has trouble reading from a teleprompter, and often misspeaks.
Candidate B is a charismatic, eloquent speaker.
Candidate A is old and has a creepy smile
Candidate B is young, good looking and energetic
Candidate A has military experience that includes discipline problems and a record of crashing five planes.
Candidate A has displayed publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem

Candidate A's platform is the same as the incumbent administration which has the lowest recorded aproval rate in history (24%), and only 8% of the country feels the nation is on the right track, specifically to reduce or eliminate programs that help lower income Americans in order to provide tax breaks for the top income (over $250K/yr) Americans
Candidate B is running on a platform of changing the direction the country is headed by reducing taxes on the middle class, providing affordable health care and education, and ending the needless occupation in Iraq
And finally (think about this one carefully):
Candidate A is black
Candidate B is white
Who would get YOUR vote?
If Candidate A were black, in this country, he would never have been allowed into the running for his party's nomination.
Not much to think about. If i was going to vote for someone based on the color of his or her skin i would own a firearm, eschew education, go to church if my neighbors did and expected me to, think the French were surrender monkeys, drive real fast but not very carefully, think God was on my side (whether i went to church or not), eat beef jerky, drink light beer because i like women in bikinis in commercials, not know who my Senator or Congressman was unless he was a radical liberal i hated or was instructed to hate and pick my nose in public. A lot.
That would apparently make you 44% of America....well, except those one issue voters
I just want to say thank you to all here at C&L. You've helped keep me sane during this incredible general election season, and you gave me a lot to think (and argue--often with myself) about during the primaries.
Decided today to put everything else aside Tuesday to get people to the ballots.
Let's go win this damn thing!

The Vote Grab: Voting machines are unreliable and inaccurate

Democrats are not the only people who are worried. Stephen Spoonamore, a Republican security expert, explains why electronic voting is inherently unsafe (cut)
Writing in the New Statesman way back in 2004, reflecting on criticisms of the electronic voting systems used in the presidential election that year, Michael Meacher MP pointed out that statisticians, academics and political analysts had highlighted significant voting differences between electoral districts that used paper ballots and those that used electronic systems. These cannot be explained by random variation. The investigators found a much larger variance than expected and in every case it favoured George W Bush over John Kerry. (more cuts)
Research by the University of Berkeley, California, revealed election irregularities in 2004 in Florida. These irregularities, all of which were associated with electronic voting machines, appear to have awarded between 130,000 to 260,000 additional votes to Bush.

This is entirely possible, according to Clinton Curtis, a Florida computer programmer. He has confirmed that in 2000 he designed an undetectable programme for Republican congressman Tom Feeney. It was created to rig elections by covertly switching votes from one candidate to another to ensure a predetermined ballot outcome. (more cuts)
As Robert F Kennedy Jr, nephew of JFK, has exposed, the US is one of the few democracies that allow private, partisan companies to secretly count votes using their own proprietary software.
Moreover, the vast majority of western democracies have independent Election Commissions to oversee voting methods and corroborate the results. The US does not.
Most election ballots next week will be tallied or scanned by four private companies - Diebold, Election Systems & Software (ES&S), Sequoia Voting Systems and Hart InterCivic.
According to Kennedy:
Three of the four companies have close ties to the Republican Party.

Kennedy recounts how computer scientists at Johns Hopkins and Rice universities conducted an analysis of the Diebold voting machine software source code in July 2003. "This voting system is far below even the most minimal security standards applicable in other contexts… (it is) unsuitable for use in a general election," the scientists concluded.
"With electronic machines, you can commit wholesale fraud with a single alteration of software," Avi Rubin told Kennedy. He is a computer science professor at Johns Hopkins who received $US7.5 million from the National Science Foundation to study electronic voting. "There are a million little tricks when you build software that allow you to do whatever you want. If you know the precinct demographics, the machine can be programmed to recognize its precinct and strategically flip votes in elections that are several years in the future. No one will ever know it happened."
Electronic voting machines not only break down frequently, their security and integrity is also easily compromised, says Kennedy:

There is no evidence that the voting machine malfunctions, flaws and security risks identified in the 2004 ballot have been fully corrected in time for the 2008 vote. This calls into question whether the 4 November ballot will reflect the will of the American people.

Few voters in the battle ground states are aware of the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline initiative. Voter confusion at the polls is a local problem that is only solved if voters are informed of their rights. I have no doubts that the Republicans have already flipped many machines. If the turnout is not huge, they will be able to steal this election and claim it happened because of the Bradley phenomenon. This "putsch" by the Republicans is a sham. It is designed to make people believe that this thing is close and thereby make a McCain victory more believable. The only way to combat that is to have a literal flood of people at the polling stations.
And it would show the entire world that Americans care at least as much about America as the world community already does.
An Israeli student of Palestinian decent was arrested this weekend at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for refusing to shake the hand of Shimon Peres, the current head of state. The student explained that he refuses to shake hands with a man responsible for the killing of innocent children.
Consequently, the student was arrested, interrogated and now the University's disciplinary board is reviewing his academic status to decided whether he should be allowed to continue to attend the Hebrew University.
Indeed, Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.

This Evening a few of us watched the CNNI together and we notice one thing about john mccain that stands out very much. He NEVER TOUCHES his wife or daughter or acknowledge them in any way. He acts like they are stage props and they always stand behind and no hold hands.
Obama is very different, he holds his children hands, always put his hand in small area of Micheles back and leads her in front of him. There is no doubt his family is a strong unit.

On the other side, Yes, that is a family unit. Obama's mother would be proud of her son. Sure, she'd be proud of him for the way he ran this campaign. But I think, she'd be the most proud of the way his family turned out. Kudo's to Michelle too.

I have thought the same thing. McCain clearly uses his wife as a prop for his campaigning. His daughter always looks bored during his speeches (maybe she knows somethings we don't). He doesn't seem to care about his family and it shows (except when he offered his wife as a contestant at that motorcycle convention "beauty contest" in South Dakota).
As a father of three, I am inspired by Obama's devotion to his wife and family. I just heard an interview where he said that one of the most disappointing things about the campaign was when his wife was being attacked. He loves his family and it shows.
When two people love each other you can see it in their eyes, their actions and the way they treat one another. Love is all over the place when you see the Obamas together and when their little girls are with them.
McCain makes it appear that he feels his wife is a necessary evil as part of his campaign. I see no affection between the two of them.

On Saturday Nov 1st I took part in the "Arizona Divorces McCain" rally and march on McCain's office.
Two blocks away was a McCain rally.
After the McCain rally, the drive-by heckling began.
People in huge SUVs driving by and screaming epithets.
The most popular screams,"COMMUNISTS SOCIALISTS BABY-KILLERS and TRAITORS."
One woman got out of her car and began screaming "McCAIN_PALIN" over and over again into our microphone until a Phoenix Police plainclothesman pulled her away.

Good morning to all. I'm jazzed about voting for Barack Obama tomorrow, and I know most of you are too
The turnout will be historic and the results will be epic.
A no nonsense young man with love of country and faith in the goodness of it's citizens, a man who worked hard with the help of a supportive family, a man with laser like focus on responsibility and honest governance, a man who has the potential to be a transformational figure not only in American affairs but in world affairs at a time in history where we need such a man.
The status quo led by the worst President and V.P. in our nations history and their willing minions for 6 years pilfered the Treasury, borrowed and spent money as if there were no tomorrow,sent our men and women off to fight a war that was foolishly flawed and ill advised, have spent every penny that I will be taxed in my lifetime and they are now well into spending away at the future of my children.
For my children and for the future of my nation I will cast my ballot for Barack Obama.
Over the weekend, here in Oklahoma, I noticed a lot of long faces. They (republicans) know it's over, let's just hope they aren't completely beyond reach.

I really really really hope this union card-check notion doesn't become reality.
I'm just a working level person in a manufacturing operation. I am not a manager of any kind, and have no subordinates, hourly or otherwise. But to me, the privacy of one's vote is crucial in ensuring that one votes as one truly sees fit, and not as pressured by popular or intimidating shop floor personalities.
