Not only did 9/11 happen on Bush's watch. But he tried to avoid an investigation of it. Suppressed the evidence. Appointed Henry Kissinger after much pressure to have an investigation. Refused to testify and then refused to testify under oath or alone. Then the Anthrax happened on his watch. And that investigation never turned up shit except bad things for the administration. And all the while too many citizens remained too silent. And the story is still playing out.

Busses and car pools. I guarantee you I am on list, I haven't tried leaving the state since being on the list, but I think it is just a watch list. Cops pull you over more often, they scan your house with x-rays, monitor your calls, ect ect ect. I don't think it stops you from driving or moving, at least I hope it doesn't.
I think the list is given to the local churches, just going on my own personal experience. They have a network of vigilant Christians set up, I do remember Bush saying that was exactly the plan. Good post bluegal. I'd say from what I've seen the opposition has the upper hand when it comes to argument. Rush and Bill o etc. We could learn a lot from this clip. Mainly our lack of capability in the arena. Room for improvement so to say. John Kerry and Al Gore sure got it handed to them. George Lakoff was successful at diagnosing part of the problem. And here's a good example of how to do it and how to stand up for oneself amidst oppositional attacks. I stalk the halls of CNBC like a shaved baboon with a peptic ulcer. The power's been out for weeks, "redistributed" to god knows where. We've got Ratigan on an exercise bike in the basement trying to power the coffee machine and Erin Burnett's laptop. Smart girl. While scavenging for food and fresh rat beneath Madison Square Garden last week she found a cellphone in the breast pocket of an old suit on an old corpse of an old banker. She soldered the wireless card to a couple of rusty forks and we now get Internet for two or three hours a day. It's our only window to the outside world.
And what a world it is.
I blame myself. I should have known better. I should have said more. I should have done more. I should have spent entire episodes of "Mad Money" with my face to the camera, one eye staring balefully into the darkness behind the lens, screaming until blood flecked from my throat like the spittle of a rabid dog. "OBAMA!" I should have cried to the unseen masses. "OBAMA WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING!"
I tell myself this as I shift the rotting corpse of Carl Quintanilla to get at the cache of Mountain Dews I've been hiding beneath his body. I suck one down greedily. The can smells like death and taco meat but the caffeine sustains me. Like a cigarette to a smoker it calms me. I can think again.
Something squeals. I look down. A small dark shape nibbling on what remains of Carl's ear. A rat. LUNCH.

I sit down in Sue's chair. The papers rustle at my feet. I pick one up, take a contemplative bite of rat belly, and begin to read. They're old papers. They chronicle the days after Obama's election. The days before the American dream died. I howl like an animal, in inchoate rage. Ratigan, who fears me now, pedals faster. As the lights flicker, I continue reading, reading these blessed pages, all that is left of the last days of capitalism.
Sure is funny (OK, maybe not ha-ha funny) that these very same people who complain that government inspections and health regulations "hurt their business" until one bad apple (or pile o' legumes) spoils their entire business. Suck it up, assholes!

Close to 7 million pounds (3.2 million kg) of trash -- the weight of 18 blue whales -- was collected from oceans, lakes, rivers and waterways in the 2008 cleanup, the group said in its report "A Rising Tide of Ocean Debris and What We Can Do About It". It warned of a "tidal wave of ocean debris," calling it a major pollution problem of the 21st century. Topping the list of the 11.4 million items of trash collected were cigarette butts, plastic bags, and food wrappers and containers.
In the Philippines alone, 11,077 diapers were picked up and 19,504 fishing nets were recovered in Britain.

Think of an electric car that can accelerate swiftly to cruising speed, laptop computers that can recharge in a couple of minutes rather than hours and a generation of super-miniature mobile phones. That's the vision sketched by a pair of materials experts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), unveiling an invention that they say could lead to a smaller, lighter and more power-packed lithium battery than anything available today.
The invention, which was supported by US government funds, has already been licensed by two companies, MIT said. Because the material involved is not new -- the difference is the way it is made -- "the work could make it into the marketplace within two to three years," it said.

What they have picked up on instead is that Obama’s tax cuts provide some redistribution of income to favor the rapidly disappearing middle class at the expense of the super-wealthy, who have profited wildly from Bush tax cuts. Which brings us back to Gingrich’s complaint that Obama is importing European socialism. If that means a system of governance in which a robust middle class is rewarded for work with a strong social safety net supported by higher taxes on the most affluent, well, let’s get it on.
