let's declare war on the MSM. If you have a video camera start ambuching the likes of Hannity, BillO, Rush, all the right wing congress and pundits. It's time they got a taste of their nown medicine. We are sick of it and were are not going to take it anymore.

great Vanguard programming, are being held against their will in North Korea after being arrested for trying to film there.

I love Vanguard and hope Ling and Lee will be ok!

NoBuddy's picture

The courts have held that our democracy depend upon "an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will prevail" - a marketplace where there is a "wide diversity of viewpoints from a multiplicity of sources."

So, if we have a corporate oligarchy, the diversity of viewpoints necessarily needs to be curtailed. Take Aljazeera - banned from most U.S. cable systems. If people thought that Aljazeera was lying, they wouldn't watch them. But, if people can't see them to find out if they're lying, that leaves no alternative on the U.S. corporate media, although PBS fills part of the gap. The broad void somewhat filled by the Daily Show indicates a huge gap in coverage and shows that the fourth estate has been marginalized.

Then there is "net neutrality". We've see an end to regulated UNE, which recognized that the copper telephone wires entering most residences was built under monopoly conditions, and should be shared among a multitude of internet providers, and instead are the property of the consolidated telcos, who can resell these lines, but control the underlying costs. And cable, under most circumstances entered communities as an exclusive coax distributor. What we have is restraint of competiton, resulting in a duopoly between telco and cable.

So, there is the push to end "net neutrality", where the internet model changes to that of television, where providers of content, such as C&L would have to pay Comcast, AT&T and Verizon to connect their content to end users.

The end of net neutrality is the corporate oligarchy's best shot of curtailing the "diversity of opinion" created by the internet. Pretty much contained in the broadcast medium. But, with faster internet speeds, internet has become somewhat a broadcaster in its own right.

CoIntelPro.PronktasticlyAgainst.SCLM.E-Voting.Incumbents's picture

such as truth. too much judge selection from the right. corporatized media does not help.

The phrase stands in stark contrast to the
hysteria following Sept. 2001, across the US.

Typical understatement.

Wonderful, isn't it, how understatement makes
the point more strongly than hysterical ranting.

And the conservative media still don't get it--
hence their persistent shouting.

Atlanta Private Investigator's picture

I agree totally.

Amitola's picture

That's why they keep shouting >>>

fear, fear, fear;
socialist, socialist, socialist;
left-wing liberal, left-wing liberal, left-wing liberal;

Much easier to steer a fearful, unsure populace in the direction you want: whether just to the right, or right into pens.

An ex-Bushie admits many Gitmo detainees are innocent.
A Dallas high school doesn't want to talk about its Fight Club. The U.N. says Afghanistan's elections might be rigged. Birds are dying from our over-consumption of energy. New food labeling law. Food allergy labels aren't always accurate. Senate Repugs don't mind blaming Dems for AIG, but have a problem with holding AIG accountable through retroactive taxes on bonuses. Kellogg, having lost $70 million on recalls last year, wants more government regulation of the market. Barry apologizes for his "special Olympics" outburst. So when are Rush and Savage going to be forced to apologize for their attacks on Parkinson's Disease and autism?
Meanwhile, a "special Olympics" bowler just shrugs, and trash-talks Obama's score. The suckonomy forces students to spend Spring Break on a budget.

The government of Canada declined to bar known war criminal George Bush from entering Canada. Canadian law specifically states that known or suspected war criminals are not to be admitted to the country.
Yesterday Canada barred George Galloway, a noted anti-war protester and British member of parliament, from entering the country.
So, war criminal = good, war critic = bad?
I'm so ashamed and disgusted.

Me too. I sent a letter to the mayor and the hosts of the event. The mayor's office said, "He's not hosting it." I sent back, "As mayor,I certainly hope he spoke up in disapproval," but they didn't respond to that one. They don't give a shit-- obviously

That Georgie is a member of the gang that cannot be touched. Right up there with Obama's "looking forward" comments. The leadership of the world supported Bush in all he did. They won't punish him now. The only justice that will be done, is Bush will go down in history as the clown that began the final push to poverty of the United States of America. Unfortunately Obama's name will be linked in there too.

My grandparents were from the Montreal area, so, consider myself Canadian as well, and I was very sad to see WARCRIMINALBUSH allowed to enter, but not Geo. Gallawy??? Sadly the SELECTED-animal-Bush contaminated Canada, as well as Guatamala, El Salvador, Colombia, France, etc. You get my meaning.

is a GAS! We take our Special Ed. class bowling every other Friday morning here in Austin as practice for Special Olympics tournaments.

Obama WAS RIGHT! When I heard him make that comment it just made me chuckle and I nodded in agreement. It's a BIG DEAL for one of our kids to break 100 and when they do, it's HIGH FIVES all around!

The president wasn't putting down Special Olympics. He sounded like he was COMPARING HIS ABILITY (or lack, there-of) to the ability level of kids in my class. Seems FAIR to me!

Hell, I'm sure they're still pissed off (rightly so) about the Vincennes blasting that Airbus out of the sky, "mistaking" it for an F14 (right...)

EL SEGUNDO's picture

you people do realize that this poster was and remains propaganda.
just because someone is cynical enough to try to make money while at the same time grinding a bootheel into the hopes and fears of the less fortunate and even those who have so far escaped the carnage.

mudshark's picture

You do realize that this is from the early 40's. You know, the Battle of Britain. The Germans bombing the fuck out of London. Fire bombing Coventry. You do realize that this poster is from that time period, right?

What is your conceptual, continuity?

glzgowlass's picture

Maybe as a transplanted Brit I appreciate the "propaganda" of WWII and the idea of a stiff upper lip, but I went to Barter Books and bought the t-shirt.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

glzgowlass's picture

I go home every year. I haven't been over since it hit the fan. am planning to go this year. Funny you mention Motherwell as I grew up in Wishaw which is right next door. Friends and family are still there and say unemployment is getting really bad. They've weathered it before, the will again.

Very interesting, thanks much for sharing this slice of pop culture with an historic twist. Just think if this country had a national slogan of working together, something might actually get done. We should show the Republicans by example and continue to gain the disaffected from their ranks

I am beginning to think that this one line from an Ice Cube song would be a good motto for myself and for a lot of people right now, "You can do it; put your back into it." True, it was a just a dance song, but there's some truth to that one line!
