How BIG was Obama's victory? As it now stands, with North Carolina upping his total to 364, he could've spotted McCain New York and California and still won with 8 to spare. Let that sink in for a minute; a suntanned big city liberal Democrat named Barack Hussein Obama has won the presidency and did not need the New York and California electoral votes to do it.

Can you say wow? [Post lifted from Sandy] Open Thread below...

[Brownsauce, I am banning you for blogwhoring. On open threads, it's ok, but I see you've been warned twice three times in the past last night, paid no heed and pasted your URL all over the site. Now I have to remove them and that wastes my time and irks me. Remember that blogwhores-Sitemonitor]

The link is to a miss-information troll blog, woot.

[Checked it out. Yeah, the internet is littered with them. Not as bad as most-Sitemonitor]

7 million vote beat down. Center right country? My fucking gay ass.

Best Week Evah till January.

"My fucking gay ass."

I think you have that backwards (as it were).

But he couldn't have done it without us in Pennsylvania!!

I was nervous about Pennsylvania, but when Penn went blue early, I knew the election was in the bag. But, who would have believed we'd sweep the Midwest and also get Florida, Virginia and N.Carolina?

Democracy has returned to America!!

Check the local traffic reports for central - south PA the day of the election, they tried as hard as they could to block the vote, traffic was tied up so bad a 25 mile drive took me 3 1/2 hours, both ways. cumberland, franklin, adams, still makes it hard to vote. Seriously I wish I had a camera that day with me, allot of I81 was closed , they were redirecting the traffic threw local towns, total grid lock.

The electronic voting machines are still being used here, don't be so sure PA stays blue in the future.

My old home town, Omaha, gave another electoral vote to Obama today!

I think nagging my family and friends back home may have tipped it our way.

I'm awaiting my appointment to a cushy post in the Bahamas.

Please click here for a nice editorial cartoon from the Omaha Weird Harold:

With bonus map!

Omaha's strong support of Obama in the primary made an important statement to America...Yes We Can!!

am proud to be from Omerica! :-)

Good evening, recovered rom celebrating?

More like recovered from crying. It was a trip on Tuesday night...first there was gnawing off the fingertips, then there was the constant pacing, then there was the OMG, this is going to happen, Palin won't be ANYWHERE near the WH, and then came the tears. Every blog I read had something that just seemed to tear at my heart strings. The next day, I was in class talking with one of my students about the night before, and started crying again.

Man, can you say serious sap? Yeah, that is me, big time.

How about you? :-D

As Ohio fell, I called my buddy up the road. He had fireworks, I had champagne. Best. Hangover. Ever.

That's the spirit! :D

Ladies, I tip my hat to you, if I wore one.

WHAT now ??!!

Summers and His Cute Note to Ken Lay

Click on the link I provide right above and see for yourself - please go to an earlier post by Nicole to sign the petition protesting Summers appointment, BEFORE it's too late !!.
,

He wrote it on the letterhead of The Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, dated May 25,1999

and, after the profuse thanks to Kenny-boy, here's the bottom line:

"""I hope our paths will cross again soon.

Sincerely,

Lawrence H. Summers

[Hand-written scrawl] PS - I'll keep my eye on power deregulation and energy market infrastructure issues.""

I DO hope their paths will cross soon, in HELL.
.

And, I hope Obama for whom we fought will GET some SLEEP before nominating this or another AIPAC whore to anything. Cursing Rahm is more than enough..

Summers, an arrogant SOB extraordinaire was in charge of the U.S.Treasury [July 2, 1999 - January 20, 2001] when Clinton signed off on two disasterous bills sponsored by Phil Gramm.
.

November 12, 1999, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act ended the The Glass-Steagall Act, which had kept a firewall between banks and brokerages. The new Act allowed banks and brokerages to merge and buy and sell all types of junk.

.
December 21, 2000, as Clinton was going out the door, and he and Kongre$$$ were hammering out a $384-billion omnibus spending bill, Gramm slipped in a 262-page measure called the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, which banned the regulation of things like credit swaps and other toxic investments that have now blown up in our faces.

That's the U$ 700 bln from US, the TAXPAYERS, and, counting.
.

And, this from Rachel Maddow:

“It’s hard to imagine the Obama administration wanting to have to devote the time necessary to sell the country on the idea of a guy who made himself famous at Harvard by suggesting that girls can’t do math,”
said liberal MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

I finally feel validated. It feels fantastic to know that so many Americans kept their heads, saw the situation clearly, were not swayed by FOX or DRUDGE or the rest of the usual suspects, and cast a ballot for a healthy future.

Good on us. I can finally feel good about America again.

with the free world the other day and they said the same thing.

I never thought I'd see the day when a company like GM would be broke.
I guess "too big to fail" is just a figure of speech. The country has the worst job rate since Reagan supposedly "saved"
us from that Malaise thing. It's also the worst since Clinton first started cleaning up Bush I's mess. Can rocks stop the earth from being burnt to a crisp? Gun nuts help the industry after Obama wins; it's just a shame that even a child can use one. Obama chooses to apologize for telling it like it is. Palin has the gall to call her critics cowards. So when are you going to enlist in Iraq and prove your courage, Sarah?

Medvedev hails U.S.-Russia ties at new GM plant

Medvedev and the governor of the St. Petersburg region, Valentina Matviyenko, were all smiles for the cameras as they switched on GM's assembly line for the Chevrolet Captiva.

"We are witnessing a project completed in spite of the financial problems which the world is facing today," Medvedev said, before bending down to write good luck on a brand new Captiva.

The new factory, which cost $300 million to build on the outskirts of Russia's second city St. Petersburg, will produce 70,000 cars annually.

Two types of sports utility vehicle, often seen as the symbol of the Russian rich, the Opel Antara and the Captiva, will start production immediately. The plant will commence assembling the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan in late-2009.

My friends and I meet for coffee in the afternoons and all of us supported Obama. There are others that sit at other tables nearby have the same racsist attitudes of yesteryear. We are very adept at putting them in their place, but I have to wonder why they are so negative. They are not just racsists but they hate democrats. They don't seem to realize what has been taken away from them in the last few years. My buddies and I are in our 60s and these other guys are in their 70s. They, if they were in the military, weren't serving during any war time so they don't even know what war is other than what they see on TV. I just don't get it.

id say you never asked them if they served in a war ron, did you? and what when was the korean war ron? every service man who fought in korea is now in thier 70s or 80s, so next time ron ask if they fought in a war dont just guess!

We Know tyree.

dont sound like it when you say if! they were in the military !

i spent 23 years in the military and gov't service. believe me, just because you wore a uniform, doesn't mean you have the right stuff for public service. some of the most narrow-minded, bigoted, intolerant people on the face of this earth have been military veterans. in my opinion, that factor is way over blown.

yes and i agree with you, and that doesnt allso mean you can judge a man by his age or appearence as to wether hes served in times of war, my point was thiers a differnce in knowing that and saying that! its very possible none of thoes 70 some year old men fought in any war and then saying you know thier history , at the same time saying IF these men were in the military they never fought in a war, the key word is IF , that doesnt seem to me like thier history was well known!

How you be?

Sweetie, how are you.

I will be outstanding...I leave the too red state of TX and go home!

You can always boycott Utah...

Did you see how much of the bailout money Wall Street proposes to give as "bonuses" ?

Last I saw, about 10% of the bailout money would go to bonuses. But I am not scandalized. True, the real culprits have long since bailed with unearned golden parachutes. However, the managers who are still around are going to EARN their bonuses -- it will take some real work to get us out of the hole that Wall Street dug for us.

Then maybe bonuses. After the treasury is fully reimbursed.

still flying high and my flag is still displayed on the house above the garage door. Today, I am still a proud American.

Maybe he COULD have done it without California, but just remember that Prop Hate needed a lot of help from his supporters to pass. The Republicans couldn't have screwed their gay neighbors alone, you know.

After a nasty encounter with a redneck in a 4x4 on the way to work today, I took my two bumper stickers off the car.

Bozo hollered "ni@@er lover" and swerved right into my lane.

In north San Diego county!

I know SD is pretty red, but holy shit. That's terrible.

The driver was about 30 yrs old and might have been a Marine.
It was a BIG truck.

the smaller the dick.

I drive a little Ranger.

Army?

LOL

A Ford actually.

You crack me up.

OMG

SWOOON FAINT THUD!

I don't have a car. Hey hey.

I walk everywhere.

Oceanside.

North Vista... East Vista Way

A military town, correct?

Has a firing range WAY too close to my pillow.

I can tell when they give different classes just by the sound.

Military? On steroids.

Macho? You betcha!

I knew it was bad in OC. But SD?
That part of the state is different than the rest of us.
Here in Monterey Co. Obama won with 68% of the vote.
In Santa Cruz Obama won with more that 77% . I think.
I'm pretty sure he won with 77%.

It is my dream to say "adios" to Darrel Issa!

whenever i see a vehicle sporting a mccain or bush or W sticker, i usually make a point to get in front of them to make sure they see my obama/biden sticker. i also have a "god bless the USA" sticker just to confuse the hell out of them.

Uhm

I am completely missing the point of what you wrote.

I just loved Michelle's quote, even at the time. I actually feel that way myself after President-Elect Obama's victory, so I love rubbing this quote into the loser-party's face.

And I love the sentiment!

Petro is pretending black Americans should be ecstatic that their ancestors were kidnapped by rival tribes in Africa, sold to Europeans who shipped them over here in the bilges of tiny ships and sold them into slavery without caring if they split up family members or not. He is upset because they are not thrilled their ancestors were dismembered and/or beaten if they tried to escape, then lynched after being freed on the flimsiest excuses, and are now shortchanged in their education, refused jobs, imprisoned at alarming rates and he blames them for "whining" about "prejudice."

I think, Petro, you need to say it another way.

Um... huh?

another point people don't think about: inheritance. Imagine a group of people who were denied inheritance (i.e., $$$) rights for a couple hundred years, then all of a sudden set free. Gee, I wonder why they are so poor and can't seem to get ahead.

It was bigger than the two pricks who ran the country for the last eight years!

Who's cheeks ache from grinning for almost three days?

Thank the FSM the "giddy" faded in time for work.

a rather common complaint.

Cali Dems are generally DINOs. They'll vote Dem in in most general elections, but that's about it. About the only thing progressive they passed this year was the animal caging reform bill.

Chickens rule...people (if they are gay) suck.

Disgusting.

quarter past nine! going for food. back soon.

in the wrong time zone for a full open thread. Must say GNA.

As I fly out in the AM, I am going to follow Peter out.

GNA. Take good care and enjoy those sore face muscles. I hope we're smiling every day for the next eight years!

Hugs all around!

GN both of you.

Hey now, Missouri STILL hasn't awarded its votes to anyone. If McCain gets Missouri, then that changes everything!

The center-right thing is such a farce. The democratic nominee has gotten more votes than the republican in 4 out of the last 5 elections, but somehow this means the US is really a republican nation...

But seriously Missouri...what is going on there?

Link?

I watched Obama's 1st press confrence as President-Elect - oh it was beautiful...he spoke in complete sentences and pronounced every word! I almost forgot what it was like to have an inteligent person in the White House.

This has been a really good week!

When I went back to work after election day and I turned on the radio, they were playing Tom Petty-Into the Great Wide Open. I turned it on right as the chorus started, and I felt a great sense of peace. I really feel this is a turning point for this country for the better.

Now is the perfect time for a green stimulus. Specifically, if the major solar panel manufacturer on FedEx's transportation hub (Sharp Manufacturing in Memphis) would swing to public-private partnerships asap and take advantage of the tax credits for renewables, a revolutionary energy paradigm would be illustrated in terms that any taxpayer could grasp.

Just a few years ago, it looked like the Cons were going to successfully take over this country for at least the next generation. And they actually very close to it and now? Now their movement is in shambles and it looks like they might be the ones on the sidelines for at least the next generation.

God, I love this country!!!

i wrote about it in my post below...others have too

the new media...the reason why the fairness doctrine is no longer needed

think rove couldve gotten away with destroying mccain in 2000 if within hours of those robocalls, pics and vids of his family with their adoptive daughter had gone online?

think that the smears against gore wouldve held weight had gore had a new media response team to put his comments about the internet, love story, etc in context right there through viral videos?

think there ever is a lee atwater if bloggers can attack him on a daily basis, showing his skeezy ways?

think the repugs get away with their evil during the recount during 2000, when live cams are showing that paid congressional aides are the ones doing the protesting and trying to stop the count?

did you see what cnn did this year? they faked holograms...they had all these new toys and gadgets...why? because they are losing viewership the same way that papers are losing readership...who needs them...we are the new media...why watch it, when we are in it?

with all the fucked up shit going on....im truly excited to be living during these times

Not fast enough!

I wish we had evolved sooner. thankfully, the world is evolving. BTW. jon stewart made mincemeat of the coverage.

personally, I can't wait to see what the fucked up howie kurtz comes up with.

There does seem to be something oddly beautiful about this election. I have the disorienting feeling of being back on my feet, right-side-up.

◊ Two former slave states will give their electoral college votes to an African American;

◊ Missouri, which voted for Bush, has lost its status as a bellwether state, having now split down the middle, unsure of which side of the landslide it should choose;

◊ Nebraska, of all places, went purple, and will give an electoral vote to Obama;

◊ My president-elect spoke intelligently at a press conference, and managed not to embarrass the country.

another reason that obama won...he, his campaign and the dnc understand how to use the new media

i have watched tons of vids and have read a bunch of pieces about how youtube, facebook and myspace changed the metrics of the election...all of this is true

but where are the acknowledgements to the pioneers of harnessing the new media

dnc chair was the first pol who showed that a grassroots org could be created on the internet...that monies could be raised through the internet, thereby making users feel that they were a true part of the campaign...obama may have perfected the use of the internet with his new media team, but dean was the pioneer.

and john amatto...before john, blogs were places to read, write and exchange ideas....embed videos? totally unheard of...nobody was doing this...entertainment sites...porn sites...but political blogs? think of the time that would have to be spent...and the tech still wasnt there...but there was john, uploading stuff from cnn, msnbc, whereever he could find a story...and doing it alone....no one else was doing this....now they all do it, and in doing so, are able to constantly show the people the hypocracy of the right....in their own words

so tonite, i salute the true pioneers of the new media revolution...two people who's vision truly made the obama revolution possible

oh...and one more unsung hero...someone who many of you may have forgotten....one young woman from alabama, who stood up before many had the courage to do so, and said...."this war is wrong"

ava lowery

ava voted for the first time in her life this election. i hope that i live long enough to be able to cast a vote for ava, when this brave young woman runs for president.

if you have the time, and have bothered to read my post...surf on over to

http://www.peacetakescourage.com/page-home.htm

and thank her for her courage

Another former FBI illegal spy job. More
banks which went under this year.

"Beyond Iraq, beyond the economy, beyond health care, there was something even more fundamental at stake in this U.S. election won by Barack Obama: the self-respect of the American people."

Roger Cohen in the New York Times.

How Freakin' True

TX finally investigates recruiter suicides. A change
in American attitudes. I guess Obama took Maher's advice about cracking jokes to ease any differences. Good luck with that one, buddy.

Been saying this for a while. The MSM has become irrelevant for the most part. THIS is the media now. The TRUE voice of the people. Thanks to this site (and others like it) I myself have become more aware and educated on political and social issues than anytime in my whole life. I'm quite sure there are many more like me, which is why this election was such a new mandate.

(sorry meant to post this as a reply to your comment above)

Obama did what Al gore, John Kerry,Hillary clinton, the dem congress could not do, show the country just how stupid, insane and just out of touch the Neo Cons, conservatives, the republicans and all the other dumbasses that think like them are, and he beat them big time, OBAMA, SUPREME DEMOCRATIC LEADER this man's victory will be studied in colleges for a long time

Jihadi Leader Says Radicals Share Obama Victory

Are people getting just a little carried away in their exaggerations now?

a suntanned big city liberal Democrat named Barack Hussein Obama

My understanding is that he is NOT liberal and his voting record is actually more center or conservative, than liberal. Did something change somewhere?

1. Just how wrong was Hill and Bill with their "He can't win!"? Think about all those people who believed he had no chance because he was black.

2. Lets not forget where most of the credit lies. People are not dancing around the world just because we voted for Obama. The people of this country didn't vote the way we did just because of Obama. Lets face it, the results of this election and the worldwide celebrations are far more a negative response to Bush than they are a positive response to Obama.

Right. Especially on your second point. I would add a third. What was the alternative? Right. There wasn't one.

I think the palpable global relief felt at "OMG They picked the right one!" is the final element.

As another person posted Nebraska also voted for Obama (at least enough to get the first Dem EV since 1964) upping the final tally for Barack to 365 at this point.

Send a 'Hang in their Al', to Al Franken, he's still fighting the good fight. They found another 100 votes because someone made a typo error. They have to count the absentee and military votes now.
Here's a place to go hang out and have a good laugh at-
THE G W BUSH PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY

give me a show of yays or nays !how many here would send thier sons and daughters to fight and die in a war george w bush started? and how many here want our troops withdrawn from iraq? all of them? then lets hear from thoes who would send thiers or someone elses kids to afganistan to die in a war george w bush started? obama has told us afganistans the real good war and intends to widen it with more troops taken from iraq, now if im to believe that dieing in afganistans hills is worthwhile and hes going to encourage our kids to join the military and surely these kids will wind up doing the things that the warwhores want then wheres the benifits to our country except to make more war for profit corporations richer, this and stateing iran has no right to produce a nukes just the same old policys the bush gang go along with, iran has every right to get a weapon that will insure we or the isralies dont attack them, still my question remains , will you send then kids in your family into the meat grinder that afganistan will become or the dumb kid next door that believes obamas claims that afganistan is worth dieing for just because we have a new president who says it is?

and with that being said another open thread dies with a whimper and not a bang!what i stated aboves words from barack obamas own lips !

my question is at what point does an american start questoning thier president elects stated policys, and if you cant believe obamas going to keep his word on enlargeing the afgan war then what makes you think hes going to keep his other promisses? when will be the right time to let him know your against this war in afganistan? yes hes not president yet , but as i said when will you start to question his intended policys that only meanj more debt and deaths for americans, are you going to wait untill were in so deep in afganistan that the experts will whine ,we cant leave there because weve destableised the area and if we leave now our withdrawing troops will be slaughtered , the civillians will be killing each other unless were there to stop it , this is madness its going down that same old road in iraq~

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs actually is responsible for oversight of the executive branch, charged with investigating the conduct of the White House.
As chairman of this committee, Lieberman decided not to pursue any accusations of wrongdoing against the Bush administration. Lieberman preferred to let his committee do no real work at all.
Now Lieberman acts as if keeping this chairmanship is the single most important part of his public life - he wants to start using the power of this committee against Obama.

Lieberman didn’t want to hold Bush accountable, but he seems exceedingly anxious to keep the committee that would go after Obama with a vengeance.

Lieberman doesn’t care about “reconciliation,” he cares about going after a Democratic administration.
