Another excellent offering from The Full Ginsburg.

BTW I love the term "full Ginsburg," which means appearing on all five Sunday News programs on one day, named after William H. Ginsburg...Monica Lewinsky's lawyer. Cool trivia.

Rushycontin's right. Cheney lied America into war killing 4500 Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's in the process so he could make millions steering no bid goverment "welfare" contracts to Halliburton http://www.rawstory.com/news/2005/Cheneys_sto...

was the prison in Guantamano built? It seems like it was built before 9/11 happened. Can someone help meet connect some dots here?

CoIntelPro.PronktasticlyAgainst.SCLM.E-Voting.Incumbents's picture

it was just a military brig with no national security security purpose. they had to expand it at least fourfold after 9/11 because they did not want to commit torture- the war crime - in the contiguous United States. That would seal the deal as far as criminality. As something "offshore", they hoped it could be put into some legal limbo. the problem is it's still US property, so others were renditioned to the other countries mentioned: egypt, afghanistan, Iraq, at least one baltic country, turkey and others in the 168-country US empire.

the base was leased from Cuba. As far as I know the lease was up long ago, the US refused to move and we still pay a symbolic "rent" every year, the check is something ridiculous like a couple of hundred bucks for the whole place per year. The Cuban government politely refuses to cash each of those checks.

In other words, we're conducting torture on a base which we are illegally occupying on Cuban soil. Which makes the whole Cuban Missile Crisis even the more hypocritical when you think about it...

Andy K's picture

Yes, it is Cuban territory, but it's leased to the US as long as the US wants to lease it, per the 1903 Cuban-American Treaty. It's like the old British lease on Hong Kong: the treaty is still valid even if the governments change. The current Cuban government doesn't think so, but they'd have a tough time getting the treaty overturned in any sort of international court. A bit on that here.

Now you'd be right if you said that the original treaty was signed under a bit of duress by Cuba, since it was a puppet government set up by the US that signed the treaty. But I don't think we're going to see the US government give it up anytime soon, as long as naval doctrine is still based on the principles of Alfred Thayer Mahan.

From the 1970s onwards, the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base was used to house Cuban and Haitian refugees intercepted on the high seas.

And when you peel back the history of the Iraq War Profiteering CRIME you find the planning started way back in 1991, right after the original "Gulf War" brought to us by Poppie Bush and Darth (Sect of Defense) Cheney.

A LOT of advance planning went into this heist.

Of course war profiteering has been a Bush Family specialty since World War One, long before this particular Act of International Piracy, so they've got the whole operation down to an art.

Still, you've got to hand it to them, this was one slick job.

I wonder what mischief they're up to now.

MountainMan23's picture

Well they've still got a War on in Afghanistan, and in Iraq for that matter. Plus the usual profits from the War On Drugs - and their investments in the Drug Trade itself. Gun sales are up in the US, and booming (!!) in Mexico. The swine flu is a real boon for their investments in pharmaceuticals. And then there's the recent "bailouts" (cough, snicker) of the financial industry.

Ah .. but you mean what *new* mischief are they up to.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

7-5?!?!

Don't expect 7 goals from the Hawks in the entire series against Ozzie, Lidstrom, Stuart and the rest of the boys from West Sweden The D.

But my Hawks are in the Conference finals - WooHoo!

I've been Jonesin' for hockey since Cheli went to the Wings; this is so great.

Yeah, the Champs are tough, but I think they were tougher when they were the Soviets played in the '90's.

Go Hawks!

Andy K's picture

Seriously, as great as Bowman's Wings were, this team is very balanced offensively and plays great defense. This time last year I was thinking that these Wings were a lot like Bowman's Canadiens teams in the '70's, and I'm thinking even more so now.

But your Wings still have to win for the right to play my Blackhawks.

Good luck!

AUSTIN, TX – Texas has seceded from the union. Led by Governor Rick Perry, Texans and frustrated Conservatives are clamoring to Texas to start a new country.
Texas’ state congress held an emergency session on Thursday, and in a 180-1 vote decided to secede from the union.
Originally the Texas Senate opposed the actions of the State Congress, until the Congressmen asked if they would like to “step outside.” After a brief scuffle behind the Capitol building, the Senate agreed and ratified the secession.
The new Republic of Texas is actively attracting those who are unhappy with the current US government. Republicans who attended “Tea Party” protests earlier this week are expected to emigrate in droves. Grief counselors had to be brought in to many of the protests as hundreds of Republicans realized they are now the minority. Commercials on Fox News are advertising the new republic as “a Right-minded, God-fearing, *ss-kicking place to live.” The Michigan Militia has offered to act as interim border patrol for the new state.
Texas was a republic from 1836, when it declared independence from Mexico, to 1845, when it was annexed as a U.S. state. Kept in the state’s constitution was a provision allowing Texas the right to secede, which has to this point been purely ceremonial.
Governor Rick Perry made the announcement at a press conference Thursday afternoon. Wearing a navy blue suit and carrying a Winchester rifle, Governor Perry announced that Texas would be its own autonomous republic. The downtown Austin crowd responded with mostly polite applause and confused stares. The same speech delivered in Houston later that day was met with thunderous applause and gunshots into the air.
The first orders of business addressed by the Republic of Texas were to set up a holiday on May 12th where effigies of Gen. Santa Anna will be burned publicly, and to require all state business to be done wearing ‘coonskin caps.

Had snow a coupla (3?) weeks ago too. Started with a clear sunny sky. Snow just started lightly at first, then within less than an hour turned into a blizzard! Nothing stuck cuz the ground was too warm.

And last week 5 inches of hail fell just a few miles north of me!

...than we've had it in Michigan. It's been pretty nice for a few weeks now. High temps ranging from the mid 50's to mid '70's, lows in the upper 30's to mid '40's.

We were on the way to having a bone dry April, but it started coming down in the last week of the month and didn't stop for about 10 days.

And this May is shaping up to possibly be similar.

The first week of May usually is the absolute tail end of the rain until October/November, and then by the end of the month our highs are usually in the 90's.

Last year, and this year, we've started the month already in the 90's. And if this year continues to be like last, we will have a nice rain at the end of the month! :S

The U.S. blames militants for white phosphorous in Afghanistan. And yet it shoots down its messenger by firing one of the generals there. Speaking of failed wars, even an army can't stop Mexican druglords. This comment was attributed to the SLA, but could easily be used to describe neo-cons:

"They were an extremely misguided group of idealists. They really believed they could make the world better by what they did," Jordan said. "I just think they tapped into some mythological fairy story."

Antidepressants are generally a waste of time and money. Millions of American children under five are hungry. Bullying's bad, mmkay? France hates students against the privatization of higher education. Footloose ends up being a reality for an Ohio Christian school. Ken Salazar hates polar bears. Pelosi stonewalls on Torturegate. Which door will the Senate pick for health care? A college graduate gets murdered with the help of the Second Amendment. A soldier engages in unfriendly fire in Baghdad. Iran's not so bad after all.

rule, then.

Celexa has been a godsend for me. But then, Celexa doesn't seem to immediately remove depression, but enables you think about your situation more clearly so that you can do something about your situation. Which is what I really, really needed. I spent years on three other anti-depressants, and none had that effect, with those I just seemed to get worse...

seeing the governor in this video reminded me of several of the challenges he has in california. there's talk of releasing inmates from prison. NOT only is there budget pressures the prisons are dangerously
OVER crowded causing UNconstitutional conditions. releasing prisoners is controversial at best.
approximatley 15-20% of the california prison population are illegal noncitizens. the california prison
population is about 160,000. that's a costly expense for the state and federal government.

Yesterday I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Biscuit, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Wal-Mart won't let me shop there anymore.

Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.

Trump lets the anti-gay queen keep her title by blaming everything on 'mis-communication'. She takes the podium and immediately bitched and moaned about how she's been soooo abused and mistreated- and then directly stabs the heart of Judge #8, for his hidden gay agenda.

Her hate speech proved she was more of a Right wing hate monger than any of us knew before and, we should all not be shocked to see that Trump has not one principled cell in his body.
