A post I almost missed: Brando's top ten Tuesdays: Why are we leaving the Republican Party? My personal favorites are #6: "Was only using conservatism for the tax cuts" and #13 (in comments) "Got a good deal on a new conscience."

Ummmm.....

The whole "Jesus" thing is getting too weird?

Ahhhhh....Rush "Oxycontin" Limbaugh, Bill "The Loofah" O'Reilly etc. are clearly hypocrites?

John McCain willingly....knowingly...ENTHUSIASTICALLY!!!!... chose Sarah "I Love Killing Baby Wolves and Their Mothers From Helicopters" Palin as his V.P. candidate???

If you don't believe in abortion, then....DON'T HAVE ONE!!!!!?????

Etc., etc. etc. ???

They are feeling confused....and alienated.

Perhaps they should consider attending an RA meeting? Republicans Anonymous.

"Hi, I'm Jane and I'm a Republican."

"Hi, Jane!"

And then she confesses her sins to the group. They give her a "Democratic" sponsor and a copy of the Constitution and the 12 steps to personal freedom and true American citizenry.

And then the whole group of recovering Republicans joins hands in a circle and shouts out, "KEEP COMING BACK! IT WORKS!"

Republicans anonymous. ROFLMAO!

my internet access was non-functional here from noon until 4:00 pm today!

I spent a few lonely hours without my beloved C&L to keep me company ...

.

And that's what's worst for me when the electricity goes off here - no internet.

How did we live without it?

For that matter, how did we live without electricity?

o .. btw .. welcome back!

What made it worse was that I fell asleep early last night and missed the C&L boat entirely yesterday.

Things seemed very bleak indeed for a few hours today!

In the space of a week last summer we lost power several times. It meant no internet, no light for reading, no light for crafting, and it was too hot to stay inside the house so I had to sit outside in the dark and watch the people go by.

w/b calgarylady! :D

... no teevee, no internet.

Lucky for me, it was a nice warm sunny day and I soaked up some rays :)

winter then! :D

weeeeet!!!

Enjoy those "soaked up rays" calgarylady!!

Zeds for me. Goodnight to all.

ps, Annaleigh, I want to see those earrings!

:)

purchase some supplies, and will be starting up on the earrings then! :D

Go outside and tear up the garden!!

I'm here in the Berkshires now and the weirdest thing happened today.

I was out running errands (after the gardening thingy) and I stopped at a stop light.

I happened to have my windows open and I could hear LOTS of birds chirping.

Then I had the funniest thought.

This is the first stop light I've been to where the chirping birds (think L.A. blind person chirping birds "It's time to cross" sound), are actually REAL birds chirping!!

Ha!!!

you whip out the mobile phone and surf on it. :-D

The State of Massachusetts (where I am currently ensconced??)), is about to lay down the law on texting, cell phone calling etc. while driving!

I suppose the "hands-free" option will prove to be acceptable.

Massachusetts is going the way of New York and Cali..... "Aaaaahhhhhggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Personally, if I'm driving and someone is calling me I just keep on listening to "The Doobie Brothers Live!!" on my CD player, put some lipstick on at a handy red light, fix the A.C. adjustments when the spirit moves me, place new C.D.'s at red lights, futz around with my recycled bags, check my grocery list, adjust my lipstick again, drink some rotten Poland Spring water, check out the dusty dashboard and wish there was some "Handy Dandy" car wash places here that did the ENTIRE car and not just the OUTSIDE.......

...and then just let the call go to voice mail! Eventually I'll return their freakin' call.

Yeah, Doobies!

new laws in this area.

The Bakersfield news channels sent their camera men to tape people at stop signs in their cars, and a *lot* of them were yacking on the phone or texting.

I take public transportation, and only two of the regular drivers who use cell phones are hands free. The rest talk and text with the phone in their hand, while they are driving. :S

us taxstooges should be able to roar up & down 495 at 80 mph while having breakfast, reading the paper, using the phone, and putting on makeup and/or shaving. Curses to Big Govmint!

Ha ha ha, love it!

just stay put and you will be aided by a lot of so called liberals here on this site. Anti-Obamamiacs and Anti-Pelosiacs abound here!

Is this--> "Anti-Obamamiacs", good or bad? Or, more simply, what is it?

and no desire to correct.

What is fatfingering? (I live in Asia, 'member?)

Its

typing with fingers that sometimes get in the way.

I have a friend that teaches in S. Korea. Can you say where in Asia?

In Seoul. I teach too. Been here 12 years. I'm behind in the current lingo: English changes quickly.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, a Democrat with a lead role in crafting the proposed overhaul, said he saw a 75 percent to 80 percent likelihood that legislation will pass the U.S. Senate with broad support from Democrats and Republicans.

"I think at the end of the day, every Democrat and a good number of Republicans will agree," Baucus said.

Congress has struggled for decades to expand medical coverage to uninsured Americans and President Barack Obama has made healthcare reform an immediate priority.

Baucus said lawmakers were now motivated by "sobering" projections of rising health costs and millions more uninsured Americans, now estimated at about 46 million, if they fail.

Baucus spoke as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, an independent healthcare research group, released a study that said the number of uninsured Americans could soar to more than 65 million in 10 years as healthcare costs more than double.

If there's no public option, there IS no reform. If we are not given the option of government healthcare, the healthcare deniers (which pose as insurance companies) win.

There must be a public option.

Period.

i am in agreement of course. problem is that $512 million is spent on lobbyist that represent the healthCare insurance industry. i find it interesting that the healthCre insurance industry is crying that a public plan will have an unFAIR advantage. NOT sure what they're worried about since they also say it will be inferior. i say socialize the insurance NOT the care. you're correct though all we can do is be heard.

Private insurance companies for years simply out of principle!

The second there is a true "Public Health Care System" I will be among the FIRST to sign up and pay a FAIR amount if the coverage is reasonable and the agenda is in good faith.

Otherwise, my personal boycott will continue.

Obama’s Health Care Charade
By Glen Ford | Black Agenda Report

President Obama has gone to extraordinary lengths to suppress advocates of single-payer health care. He has choreographed a grand theater of faux-change, in which he "seeks to create a façade of unity along lines that do not threaten corporate power." The goal is to "sidetrack, possibly for decades, the most broadly supported idea in American politics, today." This "requires elaborate reconstructions of reality," starting with "methodically erasing single-payer advocates from the picture, with the enthusiastic collaboration of the corporate media." Thus, Obama and compliant Democrats on The Hill stage "summits" and "public roundtable discussions" on health care from which majority U.S. opinion is totally excluded.

More at the link

Let's just have a national bake sale/car wash month and fund national health care for everyone!

Perhaps we can grovel to the American Indians and ask them to help us finance health care for everyone through some creative travel plans to their casinos??

Oh, nevermind.

I'm going to bed to watch the end of "Jane Eyre".....

Fox News interviewed John McCain immediately after Obama and Cheney gave their speeches Thursday.

Don't be put off by the interviewer's attitude at the beginning nor by the down-hominess (!) of the first coupla minutes.

McCain clearly rejects Cheney's world view ..

Waterboarding Is Torture! NOT Enhanced Interrogation! Senator John McCain

Friday .. John & Cindy McCain attended their son Jack's graduation from the Naval Academy where Obama gave the Commencement Speech!

Philadelphia Mississippi elects first black mayor

James Young is just old enough to remember the era that seared his small Mississippi town of Philadelphia on to the national consciousness.

The infamous murders of three civil rights activists in 1964 laid bare the bitter racism and official complicity in the lawlessness underpinning segregation in the south, and years later prompted the film Mississippi Burning.

But the racists soon lost the struggle to prevent Philadelphia's black residents from voting and this week it resulted in exactly what old Mississippi had tried to prevent – the election of Young as the town's first African-American mayor with white votes helping deliver him victory.

The Times They Are a'Changin ..

Suh-WEET!!

Now if Mississippi can elect a black senator if/when Thad Cochran retires/dies........

And I hope every racist in that town that has passed away, and Reagan who gave it his endorsement by speechifying are rolling in their graves.

why?

[Comment Deleted By Administration For Violation Of Terms Of Service]

Hannity from his embarrassment. He doesn't have to undergo waterboarding. The p...y Hannity just didn't have the huevos!

Here kitty, kitty!

I did not get to see that. I DVR Countdown every night except Friday. Darn my maternal unit and her novelas! *sigh*

The intertubes come through again.

podcasts.

I have not had tv for six months. I only used to watch Keith and Rachel anyway but was spending 1200 per year. Now, with high speed internet, I am able to just download and watch on my schedule. I am watching now as I keyboard.

The link I gave was for streaming, but it plays the same commercial in between each segment. Not too bad, unless you watch Keith and Rachel back to back. Then it gets more than a bit annoying.

Do I go to a different spot to download?

Yes

You get Rachel and Keith without commercials!

Then click wmv.

/

I'll have to save the links and watch at a better time. I've got dialup still, makes watching things hard, unfortunately. But at least I'll get to see it! ;)

You are pretty Quick!

You...are most welcome!

have that going for me. That and it's a 48K modem! :)

And here I was feeling sorry for calgarylady.

How do you upload music for the Late Night Music Club from your gramophone?

Just kidding. I'm in the Siskyou Mountains: no cable T.V., no T.V. signal to speak of, and no desire to cut down trees for DirectTV. One electric line and one phone line (fortunately it's also DSL)

,

I live in the sticks too (love it!) and get DSL over the phone line.

jealous! But I have to pay my mortgage!

Way kidding. The economy is a complete wreck here. Very beautiful, but very depressed.

I live in one of the most densely populated and most heavily wired places on earth-- central Seoul. I can touch the houses all around me and we're stacked 3 to 6 floors deep. The lane in front is about 10' across. The only living things are in my rooftop garden (which I would die without.); it's all concrete everywhere.

installing DSL then. :) Right around the time I first had internet several years ago, we had just stopped using a rotary telephone, so I am always behind the times! :D

Awesome fiver. I didn't know you were in the siskyous. doesn't get much more remote than that.

I live in humboldt.

I know Humboldt is justifiably famous for its produce, but Southern Oregon does pretty well too.

Full disclosure: I still split time with Chicago.

Chicago is one American city I'd like to see. I've been to NY and Boston, and the rest don't interest me, but Chicago is real. I'll get there one day.

"Liberty U. bans College Dems"

Some posts need little explanation.

(that was the post)

It's another outgrowth of the church/state incest that evangelicals have going. *sigh*

During the campaign I had signed so many things I have been getting tons of e-mails every day. I'm in the process of unsubscribing. If they ask for a reason I say, "I have no faith left in America."

I'd suggest using two email addresses. One for personal use and one for signing up for things online. Cuts down on the spam in the personal address.

I do. Yahoo for junk and Hotmail for private. I never get junk mail in my Hotmail inbox, only family and friends. I guard that address; had it for years.

A better search on Google shows that it's a gardening term very, very specific to wingnuts, especially for rapture-ready wingnuts. There's an article.

I'm old fashioned, and sane, so I refer to mine as a Victory garden! ;)

My compañera has not had tv for 10 years and she is the most sane person I know. Keeps me in check!

I think the more that people are able to go without TV, the better...it can be a toxin sometimes. I am glad that I have the DVR, it allows me to watch things I enjoy on my own terms and I just go on with life in the meantime! :)

the the oligarchy figured out a way to brainwash and dumb down the populace. A crying shame.

I remember when it was entertainment, albeit with ads, but we didn't complain because it was basically free. Now it's crap mixed with propaganda-- TOXIC.

you must be getting up there in age too.

like wine!

stay strong. Oh sorry, you said wine.

Very tough populace to dumb down.

What we have to be on guard against is the move to stop sites like this. This is true free thought, and is a pretty powerful tool. You can bet it will come under attack.

channel, TDS/Colbert Report, Olbermann, Maddow, etc. Things that are at least somewhat better for me than some of the garbage out there. I went to the gym today and the TV in there had Jerry Springer on. :S I can't imagine what idiot kept it on that channel. I'd have changed it myself but I'm too short and can't reach!

don't be shy. Yell out, "Would someone give me the remote or change the f**king channel?"

background was painful. :S

Ditched my TV in 1989 .. never regretted it.

Arnie gets ready to terminate Cali's social services. Pelosi thinks that Dem support will save her job at the polls. NH's governor supports gay marriage. Mullen implies we'll be in Afghanistan for at least two years. Green Day is too hot for Wal-Mart. Barry's de-Gitmo plan needs work. The Army rewarded KBR incompetence. Meanwhile, the Pentagon was caught off guard over swine flu. The Catholic Church has more sex abuse scandals. Speaking of abusing children, that kind of thing went on at a TX disability school. Meanwhile, an Ohio Christian school is worried about its students being corrupted by the prom. Chicago bans baby bottles with BPA. McCain's son shakes shakes Barry's hand. Ridge and Gates trash Cheney. Bush admits that it's hard out there for a prick.
Barry indirectly admits there was no justification for the Iraq war. No separation of church and state for Paul Broun. Psycho Dad...
WHO says to watch out for the flu. PTSD strikes again. More Cheney bs. Don't Ask, Don't Tell, but pink boxers are fine. Psycho mom. Fifty detainees are to be transferred to other countries. Crappy Intelligence Agency. Wyeth ripped off Medicaid. This kid went to college, and all he got was food stamps. Cali cares more about children getting access to video games than children getting access to vital social services.

me when the illness is used to try and excuse horrendous violent crime? There's this soldier getting to live when he didn't extend his victims the same courtesy, and I read a post by a blogger on HuffPo trying to suggest that the woman who raped and murdered little Sandra Cantu here in California was acting out of PTSD. The blogger claimed that this was her perspetive as a survivor and survivor advocate, but I am the same two things and she really ought to know better.

don't have the link, I read it in the paper but there is a new mental illness that has been coined. It is called Post Traumatic Embitterment Disorder. It comes after you have worked at something for a while, like a job or relationship, and it blows up in your face. Apparently the shock and let down produces similar results to PTSD.

Full disclosure: I am embittered.

can figure out the power of a united front (and some of the commenters here!)

I was a registered independent since the 70's. I finally figured out I was pissing in the wind. I went with the Dems because the repugs were nowhere close to my interests and I will not vote against them (my interests).

Unless and until there is a better position, I will continue to do what I can to defeat the likes of Cheney and company.

Me too, for the sake of the planet.

We foreigners have a different perspective on your politics. For you it's Rep. vs Dem., for us it's America vs the rest of us, and self-preservation.

No one, not a single soul, has forgotten, "Your either with us or against us!!!!"

Those were the babblings of a Texass moron. I wouldn't take them too seriously.

It did throw a bucket of cold water on all of us, and we aren't sure much has changed; just new packaging. It, the whole 8 years, were a wake-up call to the realities of the American Empire.

I can't speak for everyone, but I do get around to many countries, and meet lots of world travelers, and...

Over 70% of Americans disapprove of that monster. I get the anger over U.S. aggression in Iraq; I share it.

But British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell had as much to do with this war as Exxon or Chevron did.

I don't believe the problem is America. IMHO the problem is that America's power has been hijacked by very powerful, multi-national interests.

I know these things didn't get much play in the media, but I was with many thousands (tens of thousands) of the finest Americans (Chicagoans) protesting the Iraq War before it started. This happened in the face of an almost universal propaganda machine that was stoking hard-core fear after the 9/11 and anthrax attacks.

America is hardly the only country vulnerable to such manipulation, and I hope that C&L (to name only one example) should demonstrate that plenty of us are still fighting.

BTW when is South Korea going to elect an African-American president?

They seriously dislike all 'darkies' over here. Anyone darker than them = bad.

But the anger has somehow overcome the racism - and the fear. I've been more than disappointed in this President thus far, but I'm very proud of my country for putting him in office.

BTW, I'm curious. You mentioned "them." I've been guessing that you're an ex-pat American. Close?

A Canadian living in Korea, that often wishes he could be a citizen of no country-- cuz they all suck (to varying degrees).

I actually really like Obama, and it does look good on America to elect someone who isn't an old-pasty-white-pseudo-Xian. But just cuz I like him doesn't mean I'm too impressed with his foreign policy, or the detainee and torture issues under his leadership (thus far, at least).

And, I like to vent in the open thread. There's too much madness here everyday for any one soul to bear. And sometimes, I think it's good for you to hear from someone who is neither pro-Dem or pro-Rep. (Both parties suck.)

So... there we have it. Let's find a remote, uninhabited South Pacific island and make a new country, and start our own sacred (can't be dissin' it) heavily-marijuana-based religion.

suck but I don't go overboard against the dems because the repubs suck to the maximum. We had some exchanges over Tyree and I still remember your comment about hugging a dictionary. Can't remember the exact context but I hug dictionaries too!

Bottom line is that I as a Chicano, do not toe the line if I believe that those who so require it are full of shit.

Find the island and I will join(t) you!

There's no doubt they both suck, but the Repugs suck 100X more. It's like being asked which bully, that beats on you, do you like best.

Three for the island. Check.

or Morning!

(4:45 pm.)

I thought people were harsh on tyree. He's been here a long long time, and is entitled to his opinions. He paid his dues in the Korean war, and hoped he was fighting for a better America, but...

I'm glad tyree's here.

Anyway, I'm out for tonight.

GNA

P.S. Edwin, definitely check out Chicago. I'm a homer, and very biased, but Chicago is a great example of urban beauty (and some blight). People are friendly, and the Cubs are going to win the Series (some day). Buddy Guy's Legends should still be there, somewhere, and the soul food is almost as good as the blues. Manny's corned beef is as good as it gets, and we have almost as many beaches as Miami.

Peace.

You are a good person for sticking up for him.

Have a good day!

Thanks. I'll take that as a compliment.

there's no doubt everyone to include tyree is entitled to their opinion(s). he certainly does have an opinion at times. in my opinion he can be somewhat clever but more often short sighted.

too!

Yeah, whatever. You don't need a high IQ to be in the Senate or to post at C&L.

(For the Senate bit, I cite a Colbert interview with a Senator.)

I'm glad Tyree is here too. I do miss Orangutan though.

I miss Orangutan too, as he always had great comments and links.

And I like tyree's comments; I may not always agree with him but I appreciate his contribution to this board.

If so, I'm in.

matches!

For the candles, of course!

I know that, and you know that, but the world at large is getting the same soundbites. Few, outside Canada and the US, visit here. How many people worldwide do you think investigate beyond what they see on their TVs?

I'm extremely disappointed in Canada, ashamed even. The people, in their stupidity, re-elected Harper, because Canadians seem not to be paying attention either. But there's no contest ofter 8 years of the BushCo. junta.

Here in Korea, I consider the new president a fascist fear-monger, but... (they're everywhere: HELP)

too much to read here. I'll be back.

Thanks agave product!

Time to get the dogs to bed and go myself. Nitey nite! ;)

Why don't the real conservatives - the fiscally responsible, and the prudent (but not prudish) social conservatives - start a third party? The first argument against it would no doubt be, "It will split the vote!", but more likely, some democrats who are more right leaning might join and its membership sizeable.

The US is the only large democracy in the world that has only two major parties. All other stable democracies have at least three with large political bases, and some countries have as many as ten. The myth of "political gridlock" from minority governments is just that: a myth. Minority governments are less affected by lobbyists because the politicians are forced to think of their constituents first and what sort of compromise is possible second.

The US is also different with its fixed election dates. In parliamentary systems (e.g. Canada, England) where national elections can happen six months apart. That couldn't happen in the US, so it's not an issue.

to belong to anything other than the repugnant party.

In the 60's and 70's there were people openly professing to belong to the likes of the Workers Socialist Party, etc. Now, it almost seems that one risks arrest (an exageration but close to truth) to profess membership in anything but the Democratic or Republican parties. Where the hell did American freedom go?

because of the sheer numbers of potential voters, and the amount of potential fraud and the efforts to prevent it.

The POTUS and Senatorial elections could be fixed in time as they are now, but the Representative elections could follow a more UK style of format, along with the POTUS picking the ruling party from the party with the most Reps.

The POTUSes seems to think they are kings anyway, so why not go back to that method. It works in other parliamentarian systems, and keeps the Reps/MPs on their toes.

The current system worked in its own warped way when only male land/property owners of a small Republic existed, this modern America needs a facelift and a more modern workable system of cabinet gov.

Constituent, I noticed in your link that a PUKIE used the talking point, 'He keeps looking backward....to justify what he is doing now'. Proves to me that O-bought-ma is sticking to the PUKIE agenda when O-bought-ma says things like that, then in the very next stroke, says, 'We're going to target Holocaust deniers'. This is the US being run by BLOODYISRAEL, again!!!!

I was fully logged in and now I had to log in again. The last few days there has been some strange stuff going on here.

Cheney is monitoring!

Yikes!

he doesn't like anyone that can think for themselves.

log

i've experienced that also. as far as 'strange stuff' couple days ago it was an ongoing battle with a person by the moniker Naval Officer. this person was rationalizing and defending beck. it was somewhat comical and strange.

and I wondered!

Me too. The site just disappears. It doesn't bother me, but I always picture the NSA making lists for Cheney; who goes to the worst camps.

has banned Democratic student organizations on their campus!

I wonder if they have any non-Caucasians either.

GNA

sorry that I was dislocated earliar. See you tomorrow.

This song is "Amazing", but I'll only post it if you promise to use headphones while you listening. I uploaded it today.

http://www.imeem.com/people/GYU0ecn/music/Bfk...

How did it feel to see Cheney so victorious this last week?

"Harry Reid's Democrats are in a panic" the wingnuts cried, as a result of the stupidest pro-Guantanamo move I've ever seen out of them. All of the Dems are now on the offensive, including the Prez., caving in under the oppressive weight of the Moderates follies

Reid failures as a ML are growing more horrific by the day. Senate Republicans continue to kick Harry's ass, in spite of their shrinking numbers.
Even with Frankens 60th, Harry will never cut it as a bold forward-thinking leader.
Selling out to the highest bidder is his only talent, and one that must be stopped.

Love to see Dickhead Cheney out there desperately lying and helping out the Dem's. If he wants to make a complete ASS of himself be my guest.

With The GOP hate monguering liars like, Limp-Dick Blimpo, Gingrich, Steele, Fattity, Olielly and Dickhead Cheney, I can see why the Reslugs continue to be the bedwetting, crybaby losers they are.

Thanks for the linky love, bluegal!
