I'm a proponent of DADT.
I spent 14 1/2 years in the military and served with several gay people. They served honorably and were no different than the other Sailors I served with, except a few of them were subject to a lot of inappropriate treatment.
The upside to DADT is the program is an out for gay people in the military to get out quickly if they are in a command with homophobic people in authority positions who are not afraid to abuse their authority.
Believe me, it happens.
Here's something that happened in Oklahoma on May 24. The DA says that he won't charge the ambulance supervisor - what a reasonable guy! The cop is on paid administrative leave, i.e. vacation.

Whether that trooper has PTSD from his time in Iraq or if he's just some kind of control freak, that guy should NOT be in anyone's police department.

It seems more and more that we're seeing this sort of action from the police. Many times, in cases where a word and an understanding gesture would pacify, they instead go straight to violence. The police don't seem to even try to ask people what's up, instead, they whip out the taser and the handcuffs.

Have you read or heard Palin's response to Letterman's latest apology? She manages to bring up the troops over there fighting for our freedoms. She just never knows when to stop.

to win the debate on torture, we have to stop letting the torture-enthusiasts frame the debate. 1st, it's not "harsh interrogation", it's not "enhanced interrogation", it's TORTURE. and torture is an INTERNATIONAL WAR CRIME.
secondly, we can't continue to be duped into endless debates about "waterboarding". the correct term is "water TORTURE". japanese soldiers were executed for it by america after world war 2. it's TORTURE. furthermore, keeping the debate primarily focused on water torture is probably a shell game to keep the public's eye away from the extent of the international war crimes committed in our name, and on our tax dollars.

Someone above says "IOKIYAR". This attitude from some here on this blog disturbs me and doesn't seem progressive, liberal, or even reasonable. We know better than most how corrupt, evil, and dishonest republicans are so we should be the last ones to excuse their behavior. We must make them know they are wrong, not the so-called "right". We must bring them to justice, morally and legally. Put them in their place, not above the law, within the law!
