I was really disheartened to see Ed give this creep lowlife any legitimacy and air-time.
There's just no getting around it. I stopped watching after a couple of weeks. He is an intellectual lightweight who gives goopers way too much lie time. His rebuttals are often non-existant. He either doesn't know how to counter the lies (lack of knowledge or intellect) or simply does as told. Who knows, but his show sucks.
is still testing the waters as far as going left and Ed is still testing the waters to see how far he can go. I get a little of his program over the internet but not enough to make a judgement. I did meet him at a town hall in Seattle once. Give him some time to really work on his delivery because I really believe he is sincere.
I do know that he does one thing that the right wingers on talk radio hates. He kicks their ass in cities that have radio that let him compete. Many areas don't have any progressive radio.
he has been coming down hard on democrats for caving to 40 republican senators on single payer or public option. He is really pissed at how this has been played.
He isn't a lockstep Democrat...if there's even such a thing.
He calls BS when he sees it, no matter who, what, when, where or why.
And that's what we need. Not someone who supports the Dems no matter what.
I don't know what Ed Show you're watching but he I anything but call bullshit. He let's his many gooper talking heads get away with lies that I could discredit in a heartbeat. He has a show, and he should take the responsibility to know the GOP talking points and how to rebut them. He doesn't. I think he is passible on healthcare (I still feel he is not Hartmann/Maddow knowledgable) but on other issues, he doesn't cut it.
I have no idea who you're watching but it certainly isn't the Ed I see.
I do admit that as a positive. I guess it's that I'm comparing him to Thom Hartmann, and IMHO there is no comparison as to who really represents the left.
I do agree that Ed's better than nothing (or less than nothing, which is the case of the Conservo Talk Show Hosts)
That Hartmann was going to be in the timeslot Ed got. Thom is brilliant. His addition would have been a one-two punch with the then newly added Maddow. Shame that he didn't get it (not that he would necessarily have taken it had it been offered, but still ...)
Radio isn't often the career of choice for a brilliant, educated person, so Hartmann is a bit of a mutant as a wise, old businessman/professor/whatever-else-he's-been who is smart enough to use short words in his talk so he doesn't come off "smart." Schulz was nothing _but_ a radio host when he started. Basically, a concept in his "progressive" rebranding. Unlike that prep school, Harvard-educated, glasses wearing New York comedian Jew (now Senator) who had his show when Ed started, you could have put Schulz's knowledge of history, political science and current events into Franken's little finger. BUT Schulz understood that the "huntin', fishin' meat-eatin' leftie" branding with a little sports talk from an old college football player would resonate with main street America. All about the branding. Fortunately, he seems like a somewhat less intelligent Jesse Ventura to me -- which is to say that he is trainable. I didn't think much of some of Jesse Ventura's views when he became governor either but he grew in the office. Ed's growing in his job as well and seems sincere on the radio about public health care in particular.
He is far better on the radio than on the tube. That's why he's such a disappointment. He manages to mostly hold his own on the radio. He's almost dumb on the tube.
I like Ed. He is all democrat and he has been getting on Obama's ass for caving in on single payer and a lot of other things he is continuing on with that were Bush policies. He lets rethugs speak without interrupting because if you get to hard on them they cry and don't come back on your show any more. Just like asking tough questions at a press conferences. Ask a hostile question and never get called again. But Ed is all democrat. Hope we give him a chance. I would like to see his show make it.

......that we aren't as concerned about the 21 people who were kidnapped by Israeli warships in INTERNATIONAL WATERS off the coast of Gaza......including former congresswoman Cynthia Mckinney......but first things first I guess.......:(.........is there just no end to Israel flipping off the entire world???
True, and as of yet, I don't really see that we have any intention of making that distinction now. We keep bankrolling their expansion under the guise of security, and the situation festers.
I didn't read anybody here say that Arabs are not contributing to the problems.
Still, we give Israel a shitload of money, right? I'm sorry, but adding a room--or an apartment--IS expansion, and yet that entire argument is fairly irrelevant. We all know that Israeli settlers have every intention of continuing to expand their territory, and their government supports it--both implicitly and, often, openly. We're not talking about adding a bathroom--and neither are they. You know this already--it doesn't need to be said that this information comes directly from the mouths of the settlers themselves.
Obviously, the problems of the Middle East are complex and intractable, so blaming them wholly on one side or the other--or the other, or the other--is disingenuous. But so is ignoring the fact that the United States continues to fund one of the sides that refuses to compromise in any way. We could be using our money as a bargaining chip more effectively than we are.
You won't agree. That's fine. That's how I see it.
Maybe so, but I've never considered myself to be a citizen of Israel. I totally consider myself to be a citizen of the United States (since I was born here)(and as such I place my citizenship of the USA totally above any possibility that I could possibly move to Israel without a problem.)
Joe doesn't always say we're nazi, sometimes we're simply anti-semites. I grow tired of the one-sided, blind, cheerleading for Israel. It's too emotional to be rational.
every single post that appears on this site and other "progressive" sites, seemingly only attacks israel
and im sorry...but i guess you missed all the monies pledged and given by the us to the pa
i would suggest that you do some research about how aide is exactly doled out to israel and other countries before making statements you cannot back up with fact
and i have said this before, and i will say it again
the best thing for israel would be for america to cease all aide
they are not a 3rd world country...they dont need it
and then they too can join with all the other countries...america being one on the list....of debtor countries
no amount of AIPAC propaganda would change my mind since, at one time long, long, long, ago, I drank the AIPAC kool-aid, and learned about the BLOODYISRAEL Empire of other people's blood, other people's land, other people's rights, other people's $$$$$$ (US)...........need I go on????
If Israel were to honor the lengthy list of UN Resolutions that she's ignored since her illigitimate birth it would go a long way toward quelling the Arab anger.
The Brits injected the Zionists into the Middle East as a cynical ploy, coupling their virulent anti-semitism with their lust for global expansion and oil.
In the run-up to World War One the Brits promised the Zionists a homeland in Palestine (if the Brits won the war) in exchange for International Jewrie's financial support for the Brits against the Germans, and in gratitude for a Jewish chemist's contribution to the British ability to manufacture explosives.
The Brits ALSO promised the Arabs (then subservient to the Ottoman empire) their own Pan-Arab Nation if they were to rise up against the Ottomans, leading to a British victory in the Middle East.
In 1920, having won the war, the Brits chose to establish a Jewish Homeland in Palestine, create the Nation of Iraq (which had been three separate provinces under the Ottomans) .. and a host of other decisions that totally violated their pledge to the Arabs to create a Pan-Arab Nation.
By the way, the AntiSemites closed the door on the British "gift" of a Homeland in Palestine by backing the Third Reich - killing one third of the world's Jewish population and forcing a few million more to flee to their "Homeland in Palestine."
Like sadistic boys who put cats in a sack or tie their tails together and toss them over a clothesline, the anti-semitic Brits and their American allies (ie Bush, Ford) cynically set the Jews against the Arabs in the Middle East .. with Oil and Global Domination as the goal.
But now is now. And so long as the Israelis continue to deny the Palestinians right to exist .. within secure borders, secure air space, etc .. then there will continue to be turmoil in the Middle East.
You are really lookin at that situation with rose colored glasses.
I agree with you on alot of topics Uncle Joe...but not this one...you seem to be minimizing what the Israeli's are doin.
I do agree there is plenty of blame to go around on both sides.
I just bought the house next door to you. I'm adding an apartment onto my house, for my grandmother. Unfortunately it will encroach into your backyard a wee bit, but don't think of it as expansion, I'm only upgrading an existing structure, so my extended family can stay forever.
Actually IMHO, with the main-stream media being the "conservative media", he really shouldn't have even have come close to beating Coleman. I'm very pleased that so many see through the conservative/main-stream media.
it depends on what brand of electronic voting machines they use in Minisota for the count to be inaccurate. Oh wait, it doesn't matter which brand they use, they all are able to be manipulated.
I do think that Al has a new appreciation for folk that were warning about the voting machines that he didn't seem to care too much about when he had his (most excellent) radio show.
I watched two film by Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami over the last week, Taste of Cherry and Close Up, both of which I've seen before. Both are still wonderful and quite moving.
ATLANTA- A majority of the U.S. House of Representatives is now in support of a historic bill by Republican lawmaker Ron Paul to audit the Federal Reserve (the Fed), the privately run central bank that sets monetary policy for the United States.
A similar bill in the U.S. Senate was proposed by Democratic Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, and has three right-wing Republican co-sponsors.
Meanwhile, a House committee recently approved an amendment offered by left-leaning Democrat Dennis Kucinich to a bill granting more oversight to the Government Accountability Office, which would audit the Fed's response to the economic crisis specifically.
Notably, the amendment passed committee unanimously, with broad bipartisan support, and now heads to the full House for action.
...
Over the past six months, President Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner have worked tirelessly to rescue the U.S. economy from our nation's longest and deepest recession since the Great Depression. As the administration has shifted from crisis management to regulatory modernization, it has sought to vastly expand the powers of an opaque institution: the Federal Reserve. This is a mistake.
...
Okay, I don't understand why Paul and his ilk don't like the federal reserve. It's a private institution controlling our money...you'd think the Libertarians would be all over that! Shouldn't they be AGAINST gov't meddling in it?
(not that i'm defending the Fed, but it seems like they may be confused by the word 'federal' in the title).

'Mistimed coup' in Honduras? - BBC NEWS - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8125726.stm
The removal of President Zelaya was expertly planned and orchestrated. Yet, for its proponents, it might have been disastrously mistimed. They are now left in nominal charge of a country. [The new Honduran government remains unrecognised by any country in the world]. Their nemesis has been turned into a symbol of Central America's long, unhappy, struggle against military dictatorship.
And questions remain as to whether, assuming it was his intention, he really could have altered the Honduran Constitution in order to prolong his rule. Even highly popular leaders, such as Hugo Chavez, have discovered that such an undertaking is not always successful. Might the generals and judges and politicians who decided that Manuel Zelaya had to go, now be wondering whether they would have been better off doing nothing?

Supreme Court reconsiders McCain-Feingold, implications are enormous for Democracy - http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0609/243...
The result of the argument, which is scheduled for September 9, could reshape the way American political campaigns are waged on the precipice of the 2010 midterm and the 2012 presidential elections.
“That would be a sea change in federal and state campaign finance,” said former Federal Election Commission Chairman Michael Toner. “The stakes will be enormous. And this will have a direct bearing on the 2010 midterm elections and the 2012 presidential elections.”
Monday’s developments also increase the impetus for the White House and congressional Democrats, who generally favor restrictions on corporate cash, to move quickly to confirm Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, who has a long history of supporting stricter money-in-politics rules.

Oklahoma Republicans Ready To Blame The Recession On 'Debauchery' - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/30/okla...
Dave Weigel at the Washington Independent catches a bizarre resolution introduced by Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern (R) in Oklahoma, whose state legislature he describes as a "petri dish for wingnuttery." The proposed "Oklahoma Citizen's Proclamation for Morality" would blame the economic crisis on moral collapse.
The resolution specifically cites President Obama's policies as well as his celebration of LGBT Pride month and his decision to end the National Prayer Day service at the White House as key causes of the current recession.
Considering recent history of the GOP, this is just another one-way trip to hypocrisy-land....

On a global climate treaty: "We can start by ratifying the Kyoto Protocol. One of the dumbest things that President Bush said—and that’s a high bar—is that Kyoto would cripple the U.S. economy. I think the opposite is true. A commitment to reducing emissions will spur the manufacturing sector to produce the necessary technologies.
A recent study finds that creating the renewable energy capacity to achieve such an emission reduction would create over 18,000 jobs in Minnesota alone. We need a new global agreement on emissions and climate change and we need to engage the entire world. The only way that countries like China and India are going to come to the table on an agreement is if the United States does it first.
We must return to the days when we were a shining example for the rest of the world."

Israel Approves 50 New Settler Homes in West Bank
I wonder how much money we gave them to do that.
We have never distinguished between aiding Israel's security with aiding Israel's territorial expansion.
It's the expansion that is keeping the Middle East situation unstable.
True, and as of yet, I don't really see that we have any intention of making that distinction now. We keep bankrolling their expansion under the guise of security, and the situation festers.
because it benefits the folks (like us/US)who want to continue pillaging the rest of the ME to steal all the energy resources.
all that happened was that the israeli navy stopped a political stunt from taking place
nothing is stopping medical and food aide from getting into gaza
only bomb making materials
and adding a room onto a house....or adding another apt onto a building is not expansion
funny how its the settlements that are the block to peace...but not the arabs refusing to accept the legitamacy of the state of israel

And it's American and Canadians who are funding the expansions.
They are "Israelis" only because every Jew on the planet holds dual citizenship.
It's exactly the same kind of expansion that occurred throughout North America as "settlers" arrived and took land from the Native Americans.
It's Chapter Umpteen Eleven in the Expansion of Western "Civilization" into lands populated by more traditional cultures.

over-reacting and assuming that because someone doesn't agree with you, and automatically they're a nazi?
How does that help?
HUZZAH
no amount of AIPAC propaganda would change my mind since, at one time long, long, long, ago, I drank the AIPAC kool-aid, and learned about the BLOODYISRAEL Empire of other people's blood, other people's land, other people's rights, other people's $$$$$$ (US)...........need I go on????
every single post that appears on this site and other "progressive" sites, seemingly only attacks israel
Myth
And so long as the Israelis continue to deny the Palestinians right to exist .. within secure borders, secure air space, etc .. then there will continue to be turmoil in the Middle East.
seriously,
your take on world history is seriously skewed
Good thing yours is absolutely correct and unbiased, isn't it?
.
Why is that?
Ever heard of Mother Russia?
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
I rest my case.
but not the arabs refusing to accept the legitamacy of the state of israel
And are the Israelies ready to accept the legitimacy of a sovereign Palestinian state, complete with a military to protect themselves?
NO.
I think she's hot. Maybe I have her number (8675.309) ...

CalgaryLady!
You've just made my day!

It's about time Franken got declared the winner. He should have trounced Coleman. Oh, well, better late than never, I suppose.
Oh wait, it doesn't matter which brand they use, they all are able to be manipulated.
in my post. I hope you all got the meaning.
I do think that Al has a new appreciation for folk that were warning about the voting machines that he didn't seem to care too much about when he had his (most excellent) radio show.
it has been awhile. So many of our friends have dropped off it's hard to keep track.

I should mention, my 2nd. place choice for the slot was Cenk (Young Turks.)

Brent Budowsky: Republican Sex Hypocrites Owe Bill Clinton an Apology - http://pundits.thehill.com/2009/06/30/republi...
These Republicans crack me up. The same people doing their own lascivious deeds were demanding the president of the United States be impeached. The same party that fought for Clinton's impeachment fights for their oversexed studs to stay in office. Give me a break.
So lets get this con-servative 'logic' straight....(apologies to Larry Craig & Mark Foley)...when Clinton did it, it was a travesty, but when a republican does it, its a red-blooded american man thing....ah, the hypocrisy runs deep....
Why the 'current' Supreme Court is BS: Supreme Court rules protests at troops' funerals can continue - http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0629/p02s07-usj...
A Kansas-based church has won a fight to continue holding antigay protests in Missouri near funerals of American troops killed overseas. The US Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up an appeal that sought the enforcement of a Missouri law regulating protests at funerals.

When even The Economist says that our health care system needs overhauling — calling it the costliest in the world but with patchy quality — and (shock!) Walmart supports reforming health care — including a mandate that requires large employers to provide health insurance — you know that America wants real health care reform.
