(h/t Heather) The team here at C&L were a bit confused earlier today when we heard that Kathy Lee Gifford was dating Levi Johnston. No no no it's Kathy GRIFFIN. We love her.

And unlike Sarah Palin, Kathy keeps it real via Twitter (yesterday): "Spooning with Levi (my new very serious lover/boyfriend) now. "D List" season finale is tonight. Coincidence? Of course not."

Now this could turn out to be pretty damn entertaining.

There would be a whole lot of layers of makeup flying around if that happened. Some might call it shrapnel.

This is the most honest thing I have ever heard from anyone remotely connected to the Palin family.

John Dean in search of 'Big History' books at Truthdig here

Big history is a relatively new approach which examines human history in wide frameworks.…

Big history was introduced in the late 1980s by scholars like David Christian, who make a powerful case that to understand human history, we must look beyond our borders and our species and our planet to “the whole of time.” Accordingly, many big history writers begin with the Big Bang, tracing, examining, and compressing the historical record from the beginning to the present as they probe for insights. A well-known explanation of this multidisciplinary approach is found in Fred Spier’s “The Structure of Big History: From the Big Bang until Today” (1996).…

The big history unfolding before us presently is the parallel and soon to be converging catastrophes of climate change and peak energy.

"..we must look beyond our borders"

Ha!! Good luck with that. Americans are not so much xenophobic (though many are) as xeno-apathetic. It is just oh-so-easy to criticize "the French" without ever having been to France or even being able to find it on a map of France. Or, to make up shit about Canada's health care system without a grain of knowledge on the subject. Intellectually, you might as well paint the non-US parts of the globe white and label it "here be dragons."

(BTW, I'm Canadian. We love you guys, but geez-us.)

It's okay to only love some of us lol!!! As you can see, many of us in America really don't like each other and the feeling is pretty much mutual on both sides!!!

everyday. The dumbing down of America is especially acute in the midwest. You would not believe not only the rightwing ignorance but the complete lack of interest in anything that could benefit this country, to say nothing the citizens of this town. Letters to the local paper are printed almost daily that makes one wonder just how it was possible to sound so irrational. The only local radio station that has local commentary on it is sandwiched between hours of Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Beck.....it is truly demoralizing.

with one of those kooks yesterday, I told him that the rest of the world has "socialized" medical care so why wouldn't we have it?, it would mean more jobs by making us more competitive in the world market.

He started spewing Tush Lumpboil talking points then and I said by listening to him you are listening to the legacy of Edward Bernays, the father of telling Americans how to think for the last 60 years and told him to go look him up on the net.

The confused look on his face was priceless.

Grow some gravitas.

I bring up two topics of the first magnitude and you go off on a tangent.

but so very true.
I am Canadian as well...lived in the States many years ago. Sure things have changed...but as I'm seeing & reading & hearing...changed, but alas, in many ways still the same.
So very little interest in anyone or anything beyond the borders...I do know that there are many who are curious & compassionate, but at odds with an incredible number who really think there is no life outside of the great old U.S. of A. and if there is, well it is meaningless.
I could go on with stories of being asked if, for example, 'do we have telephones in Canada'...this was in the 60's, yes there had been television for quite some time at that point & yes, there was supposedly higher education as well, nevermind that Canada wasn't some remote country way, way far away.
I'm going to a 40th high school reunion in Louisville in September...as much as my opinions matter to me...I will be totally hushed on topics of politics, religion, guns & healthcare...I want to just have fun & see my old friends.

That alteady happens on the TV weather. You see the USA, but north of that is an amorphous grey zone of ether. I guess they figure why waste paint showing Toronto.

(Maybe we do the same thing on Canadian TV?)

No, we don't. Not where I live anyway. And as far as the news goes, you see as many US items in a CBC Nightly News broadcast as you do Canadian ones. As a matter of fact the Canadian networks do a better job of covering US news in a half hour than all the 24/7 cable news outlets put together. Unless of course you want GOP talking heads wall-to-wall.

I bring up two topics of substantial intellectual order, and you go off on a tangent.

Who is the intellectual featherweight here?

...I've read a couple of the books, but I'll be checking out his list for the others. I've always been interested in the larger perspective, the big picture - and I've found that the truth in the adage about 'not seeing the forest for the trees' has been plaguing humankind since .....forever.

I've posited my thoughts about climate change on C&L before - I think we should certainly work to stop polluting our atmosphere and waterways, as those things definitely affect us in the near term. But, knowing 'a little' about the history of the universe and the geologic/climate patterns that the experts have discovered, I think what is happening is just the next cycle in the evolution of the planet - not a phenomenon caused by humans. (and, I'll also add, that the 'guns and germs' are, once again, poised to 'intervene' in human history)

I've been interested in some of the work done by the Venus Project, and think all of us had better get on with working on plans for what to do 'when' the oceans rise and the fresh water and aerable land is in short supply > cause we can;t stop the changes.

(Just as an aside, my favorite expression (since high school in the 1960's), generally used when trying to point out the short-sightedness or absurdity has been: In the scope of the universe, how does this matter?)

By Gary Brecher at the Exiled.

"This is crap, of course. There’s nothing unbelievable or even unusual about what these Blackwater mercs did in Iraq. It’s what mercs always do, wherever they go. The only way you can be surprised about what happened is if you’ve been lying to yourself for your whole life."

"So officially we love Iraqis, but the people saying that didn’t volunteer for Blackwater. You know why? Because everybody, and I mean everybody, in America knows that the “I heart Iraq” thing is a total lie and always has been.

The guys who volunteered for Blackwater didn’t go there to build peace-corps girls’ schools, they went to get rich in a free-fire, no-rules video game."

Reasons why Blackwater never has trouble filling its quotas.

I wanted to be the one to spoon Kathy Griffin.

She's funny, vulgar, atheist and a hottie.

I would let Levi to spoon me. Not the brightest flame perhaps but like Kathy I wouldn't give 2 shits.

Levi is hot. He amy not be the brightest, but he does act just as himself. I hope he makes a pile of money after being dragged into the public spotlight for the QUITTER.

;D

Kathy Griffin: hot, hot, hot!!! Cougars are more fun than the entire run of "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" on a five-strip of acid, and Kathy is more fun than THAT!!!

That boy is the best thing to come out of the Palin family (other than the Palin son serving in Iraq who Sarah Palin recently said was a Democrat, he probably enlisted to get away from the mother, being shot at is better than being around her) and he's not even real family since he never married the unwed teenage baby momma.

The rumor is he enlisted to avoid a jail sentence.

The judge gave him a choice.

Ah, choices...

he faced two years for destroying at least one school bus, Vandalism at least.

there was someone his age arrested for vandalism. But as they were a minor at the time the arrest and court records are sealed. So there is no proof that he did it, that people can see.
If I remember correctly one person was named because they were 18 at the time the other three were just listed by age. Unless you have a link to prove different?

WATCH: Matthews To Obama Town Hall Protester: Why Did You Bring A "God Damn Gun"?

Kostric was wearing a (legal) handgun strapped to his leg and holding a sign referencing this Jefferson quote: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

which were just shallow publicity stunts anyway, before Beck & Co. starting raving and foaming at the mouth.

But if they continue to hold their democratic meetings, perhaps Liberals and Dems should attend the meetings wearing squirt-guns and an occasional super-shooter water gun. Only fill them with urine, or- I dunno, something icky.

I was thinking more we should have a flash mob full of Democrats with George Romero zombie makeup on, like these guys do:

http://www.zombiewalk.com/

I just would worry that Repukes are too dense to appreciate the social commentary that the zombie walks and Romero's films feature...

advocating an illegal action? Spraying someone with bodily fluids is considered battery in most states.

Why not? Its his right as enumerated by the constitution. And legal under the laws of his state.

... you have the right to go in there on a pogo stick, but why?

Why was he there with a gun holding a sign about murdering tyrants? WTF?

Also, if he were a lefty he'd be in all kinds of a mess right now.

why not? If he wanted to be on a pogo stick that's fine by me also. And he did actually state part of the reason in the interview, a right not exercised is a right lost. And his sign said "its time to water the tree of liberty" Which references a quote by Thomas Jefferson, that the tree of liberty must occasionally be refreshed by the blood of tyrants and patriots. So you could also say his sign was about murdering patriots.

I carry on a daily basis, and in the summer usually openly its more comfortable(I'm lucky enough to live in a state that allows it to be concealed or not). And I carry in part for the same reason, and also for protection.

... and this guy displayed it next to a loaded gun. I suppose I could say: "his sign was about murdering patriots." But that seems a bit unlikely.

What is more than likely is that this gut brought a gun to a town meeting with that sign as a threat. An armed threat.

I don't see it as a threat, he states he carries that way quite a few places, as do I(well I don't use a drop leg just a owb holster). And as for it being loaded, I carry a gun for a reason, if I wanted to carry a club I'd carry one a lot more effective than my P95. I see it as a person exercising there rights, is it wrong to exercise more than one of them at a time? He could have the sign but not the gun or visa versa?

One more time. Why shouldn't he have done so? I've given a couple of reasons why he should, a right not exercised is a right lost, self defense, open carry because its more comfortable than concealed. Oh and why would he be in trouble if he was a lefty?

Because you sure come across like one. I applaud the fervency with which you're practicing your right to defend yourself from those who have their tyrannical eyes on your giant bag of Twizzlers. God bless you.

LOL

nope not a mall ninja. And how do I come across as one? I'm not advocating duct taping armor plate to your back or outfitting your armored golf cart with shrike missiles. And if they want my Twizzlers I'll be glad to share. Just don't let me catch any of them eying my mortal combat arcade game. And for the uniformed here is a link with some of the posts from the original 'Mall ninja" gecko45.
http://lonelymachines.org/mall-ninjas/

Maybe it's statements like:

(well I don't use a drop leg just a owb holster)

and

...if I wanted to carry a club I'd carry one a lot more effective than my P95....

You're throwing around acronyms and abbreviated model names as if you spend all of your time leafing through arms catalogs and calculating the cold wrath you'll employ when you strike down those who invade your space. Sure, you don't talk about shrike missiles, but you only differ from those legendary mall ninjas to whom you linked by a meager few degrees of fantasy and paranoia.

BTW, the founding fathers didn't get it all right, clear evidence of their faults in the 3/5 Clause of the Constitution and their failure to ban the practice of slavery. But they did get one thing right in that document: They included a method with which we can amend the Constitution and correct their mistakes.

use of acronyms, just used to using them, like you using BTW, they are pretty common among firearm owners. OWB is "on waist band", a holster worn at waist level outside the pants, compared to a IWB which is "in waist band" a holster worn at waist level inside the pants. A drop leg is a holster like the guy in the video was using one that attaches to the belt and hangs down and straps to the leg. And for the abbreviated model number would it have meant more if I put "my ruger P95PR manual safety model auto
loading pistol" or did I get the point across without all that?

And I agree that they did right by putting a way to amend the Constitution, and they also did right by making it hard as heck to do so.

I see one of those 10-4 types in our midst, Mall Ninja is better tho

IMO an annual psyche eval should be in order for these "carry permit" people...the cops have to do it, why not them?

need a psych eval for any of their other rights? Would you be willing to undergo one to be able to exercise your right to free speech? Or vote?

No

just for kooks that carry around lethal weapons, there is an underlying case of paranoia there

kooks who are driving around in their lethal weapons? Or people who buy knifes, bow and arrows, baseball bats etc....

I'm just glad I have a lifetime license to carry a handgun.

Go and find a teensy amount of LSD and swallow it. Tomorrow you'll feel differently

what is going on with all the progressives? They are hallucinating? That would explain a few things.

hallucinate, thats why I said a small amount. It will get rid of your unsubstantiated need to carry, your paranoia will diminish.

That's why they outlawed it, it caused people to think critically and the powers that be don't want that. They like their sheep the way they are

wandering around dazed thinking they're protecting something....

Only in America.

It'd be funny as hell if it wasn't so sad and dangerous.

At least in a few years when most of this idiots are burried or locked up somewhere there'll be some great yard sale deals on ammo and reloading supplies.

someone a weak fearful clown, if they choose to exercise their rights? Your weak and fearful, because you know what your capable of, and what your not? I know I can't effectively defend myself and my family against someone with a gun, if I don't have one myself. Or against 3 or 4 unarmed thugs. Why am I weak and fearful? Or a clown for that matter?

The contraction of "you" and "are" is "you're".

As in: you're packing heat but I'm not.

The word "your" is the possessive as in:

Your gun or my gun, if I had one.

Just so you don't look so shabby next time.

for the grammar lesson. Now do you have anything to say about the context of what I said or just my spelling?

.

.

Because no matter his political bent or amount of safety training or sense of moral responsibility, any unhinged nutjob near him could grab the thing and use it in a way the otherwise responsible licensee never would.

So the police shouldn't open carry? You never know when an unhinged nutjob could take it. Heck it is their job to confront the nutjobs, by that line of reasoning they shouldn't carry at all. Try to relieve me of my open carried sidearm, you will be very unpleasantly surprised.

What if he fainted? What if somebody sucker punched him in the face? A gun in a crowd is a risk whether it's carried by a cop or a law abiding citizen or a crazy person. Granted, the amount of risk among those 3 isn't equal, but it's still there. You are never 100% in control of every situation, no matter how big your balls feel with a gun on your hip. If you think you're invincible, you're probably not a good candidate for a carry permit.

I say all this as someone who owns multiple firearms, although I'm not what you'd call a gun aficionado.

a license to carry, I don't feel invincible. For the fainting, well I never have yet but.... who knows what may happen. And I agree you are never 100% in control. But explain the difference between a trained citizen and a LEO carrying. Or do you think any LEO in a crowd shouldn't carry? They can faint also, or be sucker punched, etc. Yes I agree that there is some risk. But where do you draw the line. Should I not carry if I'm going to be around more than 5 people? 10? 20? 50?

Don't carry at all: free yourself.

I don't like cops having guns either. But the USA has so many guns, I think you're stuck with them.

that's why I carry. And England where they just started selling non-stabbing knifes has police that carry.

or some of his fellow protesters.

think that? The sidearm was safely in a holster. He wasn't handling it in a inappropriate manner. Or ignoring any of the safety rules. He seems from the interview to be a responsible gun owner. Nothing to worry about.

Is it really that dangerous that you need to carry a gun around? Aren't they heavy and awkward, besides being ugly? I think you think the chicks will be checking out your package more.

live no its not that dangerous, which is why I moved here. But to use a worn out cliche, "there's bad people everywhere" not to mention where I live dogs, coyotes, and strangely enough a black panther has been spotted repeatedly not all that far from where I live. As for heavy, depending on what you carry, there are some that weigh less than a average wallet loaded, up to a several of pounds(just weighed mine 3.5lbs loaded with holster and 3 extra magazines). Same with awkward I carry a full size semi-auto strong side hip and it rarely if ever gets in the way. For looks well beauty is in the eye of the beer holder so...
And for chicks checking out my package, I'm happily married and can care less.

Married or not, you'll notice when they stop looking. Just you wait.

That sounds like a lot of gear to carry around. Are people afraid of you? I would just think you're crazy, but I'm Canadian and we never see that. Some guy with a gun would be very unpopular in Canada, even ridiculed.

say I didn't notice. If they do stop looking then maybe I'll care, but for now no worries.

And that's not what I usually carry. But the most I do carry at times on myself(training and competition). Usually its my firearm and 1 spare mag in case of malfunction. And its not that much really, a holster with my sidearm and spare mag on my right hip, and a holster with two spare mags on my left.

And no people aren't scared of me, I'm a nice guy. Say please and thank you, hold the door for people all that stuff. Never had anyone run screaming or even flinch when they seen it. And you would be surprised how many people don't notice it, even when its out in the open. A girl that had been working for a couple of months at a gas station I go to, finally noticed. She looked down and said "is that a gun in your pocket" I told her yes its a gun but it's in a holster" She said that's a first for me, someone bringing a gun in here. I told her I had been carrying the same way for the past two months she worked there. Including two days before when I was there. I don't think she believed me.

And I assume your from southern Canada in the cities, not up north out in the wilderness. They do carry up there.

Yeah, I'm from way down southern Canada, Niagara Falls, where parts of America are north of us. We never see guns, nor do we want to. A very large majority would be 100% anti-gun.

Since I've been away I see we are starting to get problems in our cities. Unheard of when I was a boy. No one had guns in Korea, and everyone likes it that way. Only in America do people carry openly. Maybe some other banana republics carry too, but...

The reason I say banana republic is something must be done about torture. The land of the free now runs a string of international torture camps, but the biggest debate it's received is from pundits on the MSM, and people at Youtube.

based on the interpretation of the quote he was carrying... patriots blood must be spilled... We know that he doesn't think Obama is a patriot.

(I was being rather snarky in my original post.)

Glenn Beck's Hate Speech, Brought To You By...

On her show last night Rachel Maddow was talking about the shadowy entities behind all of the scare tactics being used against health care reform. Towards the end of the segment she speaks of "an organization that promotes itself as non-parmesan but appears to be anything but."

Was she secretly accusing that organization of having mob affiliations?

The answer HERE.

and much of what they do is illegal.

As someone who has done video both with the luxury of re-takes and without, I am 100% certain this was just a live on-air flub. It didn't really come off to me like Rachel said that intentionally.

She is right, though: these guys are heavily funded. The protesters themselves are often not paid, but the organizers ARE. And a large share of that funding, as I often stress, comes from big insurance companies who are awash in TARP money. Real cute.

In fact it's easily explained by the graphic that was up behind her head (and in her monitor as she read the teleprompter) which said "Big Pharma" in large letters. The speech centers in her brain just integrated it inadvertently and I tried to milk what humor I could out of it.

I like what I saw of your blog actually and I was going to ask you if it was okay for me to blogroll you :)

I've already blogrolled you. I never ask, figuring people would rather have their position on Google and such go up (one of the things the googlebots do is count how many incoming links you have.) Even if you're not monetized, more hits is good.

I love you man!!! One thing: I can't seem to locate your RSS feed...

All the bloggers themselves really did was quote me and call me crazy, the real insanity was left to the first person to comment, and check out the comments on that page BTW, these people are NUTS!!! Anyway, here's what the guy (Air2air) said:

but AIG's PsyOps labs have used TARP money (quotes me - ed)

Actually your side bailed out AIG and is behind TARP (his words -ed)

Uhhh, yeah... last time I checked, Paulson was the one who engineered TARP and he worked for Bush... And it happened back in September when Bush was still in office... Here's a typical article, you'll find a dozen more with Google:

Is it me, or is the Right not even TRYING to look like they're telling the truth anymore?

since noxin.

I had a post singled out by Jonah Goldberg himself once. The comments threads filled up with delusional wingnuts for about a week, but when they realized they were never going to get any traction they moved on.

"Is it me, or is the Right not even TRYING to look like they're telling the truth anymore?"

No, it's definitely not just you.

I checked my bandwidth allocation about an hour ago and a WHOLE BUNCH OF THEM have been on that page long enough for the flash video game I have on that post to load to their computer, and judging by visit times in the 10-20min. range they do rather like playing it... it takes, say, about a minute for the game to load and since I'm not saying much on there they MUST be playing the game... And it's not even the best zombie flash game I have...

so they scorched the earth and burnt all the bridges, a monster poison pill for the next administration.

I've refrained from saying that directly, but more privately I think so as well.

The really horrible thing is that this will screw up the next TEN administrations, if not destroy America altogether...

Way to go, Team Bush!!! NOT!!!

Of course they knew. Bush said we'd need 50 years...

The Wealthy Elites Play the Racists for Pawns at a Town Hall Meeting in Maryland
BuzzFlash Guest Commentary

By Maria Allwine

On Monday night, Maryland Senator Ben Cardin held a town hall meeting at Towson University, just north of Baltimore. A long-time BuzzFlash reader and Baltimore activsit, Maria Allwine, provided this account.

I was at the protest before Monday night's town hall meeting on healthcare hosted by Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin. Here are my impressions of last night:

I went to the rally and got there about 5:35 –already there were signs posted saying the event (a huge line already waiting to get in) had reached capacity. I hoped members of Healthcare-Now of MD were there early.

The organized right-wingers were there in droves – I estimate (and I am not the best guesser) at least 1,000, maybe more. They were bused in from all over MD from what I was hearing. There were maybe 500 of us, perhaps more –again a guesstimate. Osler Drive was lined up on both sides for a very long way but the majority of them were the right-wingers. They were all along the west side of Osler and a good deal of the east side where we were. I’ll be interested to read the estimates from a more reliable source than myself.

I have never seen such hatred, vitriol and racism in all my life – and I do not say that lightly. It made me physically ill – I could stand the heat, but I couldn’t stand the hatred and racism. We all read about it, we know it – but having it in your face in such large and angry numbers is hard to deal with. There were posters of Obama as Hitler, the Democratic Nazi Party, Keep Your Laws Off My Body (except for abortion – I asked) and various and sundry examples of ugliness. Some Lyndon LaRouche supporters along with anti-immigration and tort reform. Also a lot of “killing the elderly, euthanasia” type signs. And of course, our favorite – “No Socialism.” As I looked across Osler at these people, they were screaming and angry – and they often came over to where we were to provoke us and to out-shout us. The comments to me as I walked up and down with my signs were appalling. Just ugly, ugly, ugly.

I am telling you this for a reason.

Folks, this is NOT about healthcare or anything remotely resembling policy or any particular issue. This is about the naked anger of the right wing being out of power and not accepting a black man as President combined with their own racism – it’s thinly veiled at best, but it’s racism. I venture to say that this is the least thinly veiled racism I’ve seen for a long time – they have taken those gloves off.

Spot on. Thanks for sharing that.

Yes, they've taken off the gloves and the mask and what is left is pretty repulsive, but hey, PUKIES are repulsive and nothing more unless it is pedophilia which they also excel at.

Now, Fred Phelps church hates Jews

'Minister' of 'God Hates Fags' church now hates Jews, for some reason.

I'm reminded of a history program in which a guest said that Christianity's original sin was anti-Semitism...

oh please...this man has always hated jews and minorities

they picketed the adl while i was working on their computer system

i believe in tort reform only because of these aholes

they make all their money by suing people

I never thought I'd agree with you. But what you say is the truth on this. But with one small correction, he hates jews, minorities, and pretty much everyone outside his little group.

I was hoping C+L would have a tribute to Eunice Kennedy Shriver. No wonder Bush looked the other way on Mexican drug cartels. They gave him a five-finger discount on oil. Experts warned Arnie about the crowded conditions in a Chino prison which just rioted. Young 9/11 officers have acquired immune system cancer. Sanford broke state law on plane use. Why do I feel FOX News would praise this idiot? Yes, it's really "socialism", and not race which has got the birthers up in arms over Obama. I guess that's why Rep. David Scott had a swastiska painted on his office. So a guy on a drug trial gets six months, just for yawning. Myanmar sentenced one of our Americans to hard labor. Palindrone's so popular in Alaska, that the legislature overturned her veto of the state's stimulus money. The Arctic continues to melt.

From the L.A. Times on her new move to KFWB:

"Dr. Laura is one of the crown jewels in all of talk radio, and now she's the centerpiece of our radio station," said Ed Krampf, senior vice president and Los Angeles market manager for CBS Radio, KFWB's parent company. "You need an anchor, and there are very few of them in this industry. She's the kind of anchor that can make this station successful."

Of course, the irony is that she only ranks second, but who cares about being #1?

her move means that her ratings arent good enough for the station

kfi has been slowly moving from wingnut all the time to more middle of the road...so this is a good thing

nobody listens to kfwb

probably a ddos

I'm glad somebody else noticed.

I'm watching MSNBC the other day and I've got the sound on the TV cranked up to its highest level (60) and I can barely hear the conversations. So, on a lark, I switch to Fox. that might be the problem.

It's good to see that Kathy stays honest, beautiful and happy with her present status in life--well, as to her love status too, she makes it more obvious that they are good together. The way she talks also makes it clear that she's happily contented.

America has always been known for its tasteless excesses. In Palin's case, she's the poster girl for American brash and trash: loud-mouthed American chick, that wants everything in the world.

I agree. And while you're there, get some help for your Meth addicted mother.

So, even though the firings were clearly political, Rove and Lamar Smith absolve Rove of any wrong-doing.

But Birmingham's mayor pardoned civil rights protesters.

remember this

WTFC .

And it's a happy thought.

On Scarborough's show this morning he and Mika are whining because no one asked tough questions of the President yesterday and suggesting the audience was picked. To his credit, Chuch Todd, explained to them how the audience was chosen and it was at random. He said when you request a ticket you are asked for your name, ss number date of birth etc. They do not ask if you are dem or rep or anything like that. I would imagine the reason no insane questions were asked would be because in his speech Obama debunked all the ridiculous rumors. And the audience was well behaved because as Chuck said, they know that secret service people are all over the place and they don't want to do something stupid.

Sometimes if Joe and Mika would use common sense and do a little homework they wouldn't look so very uninformed.

If what Todd is saying is true, then it is more proof that these other town halls are packed with organized protestors.

stupid. It's the masses thar are uninformed, Joe and Mika are stupid thinking all of us re uninformed.

Actually, I suspect that there were no true crazies in the audience since they are a very, very small percentage of even the GOP population. The odds of their being drawn are small.

"I performed in Iraq and Afghanistan and stuff".

Tomgram: Mark Engler, Protesting at Climate Ground Zero - http://www.tomdispatch.com/post/175105/mark_e...
We're so past the Roman Empire by now that it's probably time to update the phrase "fiddling while Rome burns." What about, for instance, "writing fake letters ostensibly from real non-profit groups to weaken a climate-change bill while the planet burns"? It's true. According to the New York Times, the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE), a coal industry and utilities trade group, "indirectly hired" a lobbying firm that did just that,
sending piteous letters to congressional representatives from, for instance, the Albemarle-Charlottesville chapter of the N.A.A.C.P, claiming: "Many of our members are on tight budgets, and the sizes of their monthly utility bills are important expense items." (Hilary Shelton, the N.A.A.C.P.'s perfectly real senior vice president for advocacy and policy, "called the fake letters 'outrageous.'")
To add insult to injury (or is it to fiddling?), the ACCCE then hired the very lobbying firm that hired the subcontractor that sent out those letters to run a million-dollar campaign to influence Democratic congressional representatives to give the coal industry yet more concessions via further "grass-roots" efforts. ("We're not going to throw the baby out with the bath water here," commented a Coalition spokesperson.)
To anyone who has been following the health-care debate, the tactics to be wielded will surely sound remarkably familiar: "The new project will use 225,000 volunteers dubbed 'America's Power Army.' They will visit town hall meetings, fairs and other functions attended by members of Congress and ask questions about energy policy."
As for that burning planet, while the ACCCE's hirees fiddle, the Millennium Project, a Washington-based think-tank supported by the U.N. and other organizations, just issued "2009 State of the Future," a massive 6,700-page report that called on 2,700 experts from 30 countries. With its focus on the condition (perilous) of our burning planet, it got hardly any attention in this country.
The report lays out the "seven terrors of the world," of which it ranks climate change as number one, and warns that, in the not-so-long run, civilization itself may be at stake. The report also calls for an Apollo Project-style decade-long effort -- by China and the U.S. in particular -- to tackle the various issues surrounding climate change. But we all know that just ain't gonna happen.

The Sun revolves around the earth update: Tin Foil Hat Brigade: Right-wing global warming deniers protest Clean Energy Summit. One said President Obama is an “Anti-American Arab” who “is not a natural-born citizen.” Many others said that global warming is a hoax, that Obama is a man of divided loyalties and questionable associations, and that the country is headed toward socialist decline.
Update The number of activists who supported clean energy reform vastly outnumbered the deniers. "Organizers of the demonstrators who backed the energy agenda behind the conference said they counted about 275 supporters on hand."
Sorry progressives...we all have our right wingnut con-servative contingents that we slam for being morons & insanely stupid....but the Extinctionsists/Deniers/'skeptics' anti-science & reality meth/crack mongers are without a doubt...the 'winners' of the magic bean sweepstakes...they're special...they take the cake by a mile...

Zogby Poll Confirms That Americans Want Strong Action on Climate and Energy - http://www.desmogblog.com/zogby-poll-confirms...
A new Zogby poll commissioned by the National Wildlife Federation found that 71% of respondents supported the Waxman-Markey energy and climate bill recently passed in the House of Representatives. Only 19% of respondents said they were “strongly opposed” to the House bill, indicating that polluting industries and their front groups have failed in their grandiose efforts to convince the public that the House bill amounted to a sinister, hidden “energy tax”.
But that doesn't mean that Big Oil, Big Coal & Dirty Finite Energy Pimp outfits won't keep impersonating charities, orchestrating & funding town hall terrorism, and muddying the waters of reason & reality...all the way through September when the vote in the Senate takes place

Ever since the Nixon Southern Strategy, race has been the seedy, reprehensible political card played by the GOP whenever they need to win in a tight spot.

Imminent Divorcee & Special Olympics defunderer Palin Steps Up To Lead Nazilike Campaign Against Health Care Reform - http://manifestojoestexasblues.blogspot.com/2...
It's a departure from historical norms, but nobody ever demonstrated that a fascist movement couldn't be led by a pretty middle-aged woman. (She's not my type, but Sarah Palin has what could be described as generic good looks.) And it's happening -- I don't think she can ever legitimately vie for high elective office again, but sundry Brown Shirt types, jackbooted thugs and brainwashed hillbillies may be lining up behind Palin.
Its a shame these idiotic right wingnut con-servative morons (the ones that aren't getting paid by Big Pharma & Health Insurance Syndicate) don't know their history (or the history they're re-enacting)....and its because another con-servative moron started the war on education in the 80s....called Ronald Reagan....see what happens when you let giant corporations rule the text book world....

MUST READ: My 1933 Nightmare: by David Michael Green - http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/08/11
The events of recent decades have been ominous. The events of recent weeks more so. It's not so much, I guess, the visage of obese, over-fifty, white men angrily wrecking even the tattered remnants of the democratic process in this country that is most disturbing. We've seen that before. -- I think it's the willful ignorance translated into incoherent, and in fact ironically self-defeating, rage that I find most discouraging.
Can we really live in a country populated by so many fools, people who can so readily, proudly and belligerently be made into tools of their own destruction? Can the greatest political, economic, cultural and military power on the world's stage possibly be so incredibly backward at its core? --
What seems to me new about this moment is the political road rage, the thuggishness of masses of Americans who not only are venting about insane nonsense, not only are undermining their own interests acting as marionettes of laughing corporate predators, and not only are taking down democracy around themselves in order to do so, but are in fact also destroying the entire Enlightenment project of rationality-based management of public affairs as well.
-- The single most frightening characteristic of this movement, to my mind, is that fact that no amount of evidence or logic could persuade these folks to abandon the lies they've attached themselves to, like a pit bull clamped to the leg of some poor SOB's pants.

Robert Parry: False Republican claims about President Barack Obama’s health-care initiative, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s demagogic charge about a “death panel,” are part of a pattern of systematic lying that has marked the GOP’s political tactics at least since Ronald Reagan’s presidency in the 1980s
- http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/081109.html
Facts don’t matter in this environment. “Hot buttons” – and repetition of the "themes" by numerous media outlets – matter.
“Perception management” is working, too, in building hysteria about Obama’s health-care initiative. Republicans and medical-industry-funded P.R. groups are spreading almost any wild rumor that might stir up the GOP “base” and scare easily frightened citizens.
So, in defense of real “death panels” run by insurance company bureaucrats, the Republicans conjure up make-believe “death panels” run by the government. It all makes sense in the world of perception management.

Con-servatives Find Town Hall Strategy in Leftist Text - http://washingtonindependent.com/54554/conser...
Those principles are the ones that the late left-wing activist Saul Alinsky outlined in his 1971 book “Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals.” Leahy’s book, “Rules for Con-servative Radicals,” boils them down and scraps Alinsky’s more “amoral” suggestions. “The problem that con-servatives have with Alinsky is that, for him, the ends justified the means,” explained Leahy.
“I’m suggesting that we take the successful Alinsky rules, we update them and apply them to new social networking technology, and we execute them in the Judeo-Christian tradition.” Thirty-eight years since the publication of his handbook and 37 years since he died, Alinsky has found a thriving and surprising fan club in the modern con-servative movement.
