Australian Economist Steve Keen with Max Kaiser 1 2.

We need a 21st century debt jubilee.

Let the parasitic banks all go bankrupt is his phrase.

Speaking of Wall Street, get them out of health care.

Socialist Worker:

The health care swindler - Sen. Max Baucus, the man behind the latest version health care "reform" legislation, may be the most corporate-entrenched Democrat in Washington.

Joshua Frank here

---

Keeping real reform off the table

The problem is a public option would still leave private insurance intact, and enjoying unhindered profits from the market for employer-based health insurance, which covers the majority of Americans. Since 78 percent of people who had to file for bankruptcy in 2007 because of overwhelming health care costs started out with insurance when they got sick, it's clear that the health care crisis isn't just about insuring the uninsured.

---

Making excuses for health care non-reform

Mandates, along with billions in government subsidies for the uninsured, with no effective controls on the costs of insurance or medical care--could turn health care reform into a bonanza for insurers.

If the insurance industry tried to sell this massive corporate welfare scheme, it couldn't get away with it. That's why the liberal wing of the capitalist political establishment, the Democratic Party, serves them well.

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

I'm glad to see that Froomkin has landed on his feet and is writing for an actual news outlet now. Here's hoping the WaComPost goes bankrupt.

Not likely if Obama gets his way. The president said he is "happy to look at" newspaper bailout proposals. The Hill

That article is simply charming. Here's one snippet:

Sarah would call Trig—who was born with Down syndrome—“my little Down’s baby.” But I couldn’t believe it when she would come over to us and sometimes say, playing around, “No, I don’t want the retarded baby—I want the other one,” and pick up Tripp.

At least this Afghani boy is better off, 'cus of us...Obama throws ACORN under the bus. Why do rich tax cheats get more time to pay their bills than working-class house-owners? Palindrone tries her luck @ the Facebook. The NYT wants to levy a fee to read is articles online, even though it's already proven to be a failed model. Scientists help a paralyzed rat walk again. A court halts a second lethal injection attempt on the grounds of cruel and unusual punishment. Are scent identification line-ups worthless? More Arnie fire-prevention mismanagement.

Top U.S. Commander For Afghan War Calls Next 12 Months Decisive

Get out of Afghanistan NOW!

The mission is already a failure.

(Why is the military going directly to the press, the civilians are in charge, or are they? Now I remember…)

About 42 states lost jobs in August. Birth control can help with that global warming thing. Apparently, animal eugenics is now acceptable in British education. A heckuva job on jobs, Arnie.

just more proof that the corpora-fascists running the US and the rest of the 'civilized' world are just continuing their polices of:
arm, incite and sit back to rake in the cash.

The so-called 'leaders' of this world are all despicable!

Democrats have now joined Republicans in approving expanded presidential powers and even -- in the case of wars, military strikes, lawless detention and rendition, warrantless spying, and the obstruction of justice --

What I've said before, more of the same. Far from turning this shithole into a Socialist Paradise, we've got a fucking third bush term. I knew he was too good to be true, and since corporate media picked him I stayed home on voting day. Of course McWars would have been infinitely worse, of that I am sure.

I just may forgive his crappy bush policies if Holder pursues war crimes up the food chain though.

True, but then the McWars would at least have a fairly strong opposition in the Democratic party, instead of the rubber stamp we're currently seeing. Maybe some opposition is better than no opposition?

ctalk's picture

The dems lack of spine is part of the system at this point, traditional liberalism was killed off by Reagan. I thought Obama might lead us out the darkness of the wrong wing but he doesn't seem to have it in him.

how many of you have republican representatives and senators that you have called and emailed to let them know how you feel. You know the right wingers are, why not you too? It's justifiable to let the democrats know you're dissatified but why don't you let the republicans have it too. They are just as spineless because they only go party line and are not representing us.

ctalk's picture

In a just society they would care. Nice thought though.

ron's picture

it's not a just society but that doesn't answer the question. I have democrats only and have contacted them but, who is contacting their republican representatives and senators? Why aren't we hammering them?

ctalk's picture

We should, it's at least worth a try. G'nite.

Watching the Bears-Steelers game yesterday, there was an advertisement for a $1.00 cheeseburger at Jack in the Box and it looked good to me. I wanted to get one, and then she wanted one too. We ended up leaving in the middle of the game and getting five of these cheeseburgers.

As a long-time fan of fast-food dollar specials, I can testify that this was the best fast-food dollar special I have eaten to date, and the truest sign yet of deflation. The hamburger patty was large, probably one quarter pound of meat, and there were two slices of cheese, one American, and one whitish in appearance.

This is a good cheeseburger. We ordered ours without mayonnaise.
