If Republicans want it: fifty votes plus one gets you a big tax cut.
If Democrats want it: sixty votes isn't enough to provide health insurance to every American, plus you have to give Lieberman a pony.

In spite of Bush, I actually don't hate this decade. The 90s was fucking overrated. The entertainment consisted of attention-whoring pretentious bullshit, the people I grew up around were shallow assholes, and the politicians didn't even try to make excuses for raping you from behind. At least this decade consists of people who care about doing the right thing, movies and shows I can occasionally stand, and pols who occasionally try to represent voters. And what better way to celebrate a new decade, then by putting the final nail in the coffin of a party which represented the worst aspects of that previous era? So let's all do our best to make the 2010 mid-terms like NY-23, people.
Anyway, a Cali judge demands Barry stop fucking with a 9th Circuit lawyer's right to insure her same-sex wife. Smoking around your Mac voids the warranty. If a random couple can crash a White House shindig, how is continuing to be in Afghanistan going to make us safe from terrorism? Tea-baggers hate the right to a fair trial. Local cops call that Ky. census worker hanging a suicide. Ohio coerces a doctor into executing people. An activist group leaks hundreds of thousands of texts made during 9/11.
the decline cannot be stopped
signing petitions will not fix the problem
the problem is the system or systems
election system controlled by lobbyists.
capitalism system is designed to self destruct
self righteous americans still think they are #1

the list is long
only complete failure and bottom out will awaken a country like america
then too late third world status has arrived
states already bankrupt
federal gov bankrupt borrowing hundreds of billions

stick a fork in us we are done
naw stay in denial and sign petitions.
oh and lets have some more tax cuts for the rich
a bankrupt country doing trillion dollar nation building in the most corrupt country on planet earth and obama wants to spend more of our borrowed and printed money on them. dumber than dumb

It's government corruption. Period
Take the mortgage backed securities. Why has no one at the rating agencies been charged with representing the mortgage backed securities as "AAA" with knowledge that they weren't entitled to that rating, because the borrower hadn't made a substantial down payment, or hadn't verified their income, and so forth?
Take the national defense budget. Why was it that our politicians were voting for defense projects at a time that parents of our troops were forced to finance their body armor?
Take health care. Why does the current health care "reform" proposal require people to buy health insurance from "insurers" when most large businesses self insure? That question is off the table because it's idiocy to pay a risk premium for a nation where the requirement is that everyone should be insured, which is the Democrat's proposal.
It's government corruption, folks. Until that is addressed, there can be no meaningful reform on any other financial issue.

The end of the year seems like a perfect time to stock up on all the stuff you didn't have time to buy during the rest of the year because you were too busy buying other stuff. Remember, all the stuff you don't buy at the end of the year may not be available at the beginning of the year when you're out buying your new stuff.

Grayson does have a point. The use of the filibuster is not in the US Constitution. A simple majority used to be all that was required, even to the point of the office of Vice President was (1) Presidential succession, and (2) as President of the Senate, to break tie votes. Political corruption, the notion of the Senate as a "Wealthy Gentleman's Club & C-Street Choir", and the rise of the Corporatist State has turned this "House of Lords" tradition into a cluster-flock similar to the legislative FUBAR that exists today in California. Super-majority, my ass! Even Grayson's proposal of 55 votes instead of 60 to break a non-existent filibuster is BS. If these Senators want to filibuster, let them do it the old-fashioned way on the floor of the Senate, cases of Depends and cases of Red Bull included. With live streaming C-SPAN, we can see who the real ass-hats in the Senate are, and let them suffer the political consequences.
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
-- John F. Kennedy
The problem is that the so-called democrats don't want it either.
Changing the filibuster rule from 60 to 55 is not going to change anything.
If the dems really wanted healthcare, they could use the reconciliation route.
They don't. They won't.
Obama has been in hiding on healthcare.
The "public option" as presently proposed is an insult to all Americans.
If you want to have an effect, Alan, you have to do more than dump on Republicans.
The Dems are a spineless bunch.

Snip - “Ministers who oppose same-sex marriage say they now feel belittled, ignored and isolated by a government that no longer views the clergy as a mighty political force,” reports The Post. “Activists, political leaders and some ministers who have come to tolerate, if not embrace, same-sex relationships argued that socially conservative ministers just chose to fight a battle they had lost years ago as the city changed around them.”

The FDIC collects fees from the banking industry to cover losses. At least it suppose to, under Bushco it didn't. That is my recollection.
There is a new program (under the Pope of Rope a Dope and no Hope (R-Government Sachs)) which allows it to access funds from the Treasury, up to $500 billion, in other words, from the taxpayers instead of the banks.
It was a Bankster coup d'etat in September of '08. The election was a formality.

I'm not totally vegan since I do eggs, dairy and some fish occasionally.
I'll be having dinner today with the whole family (including the ex and his wife). Of course there will be the ceremonial turkey...and those of us eating "tofurkey?" will make our barbed comments to the others, but sadly I don't think we'll see a change in the way people eat in our lifetimes.
If I had a decent kitchen to cook in I would have whipped up this really great walnut loaf with tamari gravy. It's really awesome. It's actually easy to create an incredible feast without killing/torturing any other living thing.
