Oh, and hi everybody. My move was postponed at the very last minute this morning. The move was coinciding with an inspection of the trailer park, but the inspection has been postponed due to Ahnold's budget cuts. So I'll probably be moving just after New Years.

And I was so ready to get settled in the new trailer too!

We can do better. Mostly on style; she didn't do well.

I'm thinking we need to fight this bill, and the sooner we realize this, the more likely we'll succeed.

Probably it's too many people. We can't agree on anything. Why do European countries have universal healthcare and we are nowhere near it? Smaller countries. Easier to get a consensus.

to agree on, especially the health care issue...

that is why it should be left to the states? Well that and the Constitutional issues.

I'd say it's because the "elites" are so deathly afraid of socialism for the people. Of course, they love it for themselves. That goes without saying.

bonsai pajamas's picture

and a big percentage of teabaggers love socialism too. The ones who are retired on Medicare. But they rail against nationalized healthcare, go figure.

Annaleigh, I guess what I should say is the country's too goddamn big AND STUPID.

First semester since 1988. I am poli sci junior. My adviser totally fucks up my schedule and so the second day of class I am drop/adding 3 classes. Next day I witness a fatal car accident, save one guy but watch is wife burn cause we can't get her out of the car. Great start.

So one of the classes I picked up was an American Literature I class. At the time I was considering an English minor. The class is cool, but my buddies on campus say I fucked up hard by taking this instructor. They tell me that if you don't agree with her old, skinny, neocon ass, you get a shit grade. Great start.

I stick with it and get a low A on the midterm. My fault I didn't read this one text enough because, and I mean this, it was stupid. So I am like sweet, I got this! NOPE! She assigns a 5 page paper (not on the syllabus btw) on a piece of text we haven't covered in class. I am still happy because I have Eng 3090, Intro to Criticism, which is all about taking apart a piece of text. I have high As in that class so I am stoked. This paper is worth as much as the midterm! And thinking all is well cause I participate and my quizzes are solid.

I write the paper on a text about a woman who is kidnapped by the Natives in 1675. You can imagine what a Puritan woman kidnapped by "heathen savages" would write. Not to complimentary. My thesis is that although the story was hailed as a pious and heroic narrative, it was at its base a piece of propaganda. I explain propaganda and write an A paper. NOT! Evil neocon professor absolutely loses her mind and gives me a D. Says I totally hate America because I call the Pilgrims "invaders" and our colonization "a brutal war".

Now I am scared shitless because I feel something I have not felt in a long time. Fear. This bitch is gonna give me a C, even if I ace the final, which I will. I don't know what to do. Worse off I look her up on the university website, she isn't even a phD. And her undergrad was fucking THEOLOGY.

Great start!

ron's picture

in high school sophmore english. Worked two jobs and didn't have a lot of time for reading but passed all tests with As and Bs and she flunked me. Another guy that read all the reading assignments and didn't take the tests passed with an A.

She's obviously biased and unfit to teach.

miss_kitty's picture

she can't allow her stuff to get in the way of her objectivity at your expense. If it's a poorly written piece, a second party (an academic dean or the dept head) should concur, if not, they should point out to her the error of her ways. With a decent class history, you shouldn't be viewed as a 'whiner.' It's not the patriotic course; it's the writing course.

I had to do that. We had a misogynistic ahole who didn't think women folk should be arborists, unless they were 'cool' in his eyes. He totally fucked over a load of us 'chicks' when it came to grading. Proof: He gave As to two total wastes of male skin who barely showed up for class, one a total alcoholic, the other a guy who said the grossest shit about his wife's cooch, since she'd had the 4th kid. Four of us who'd gotten As on all of our tests, showed up for and participated in each class inexplicably got Cs. The teacher actually was not asked to come back.

Bonus: After my cancer, I went back to school the same dept about 7 years later and they wanted to hire a person to teacher the advanced pruning class. I said well don't pick so and so, told the dept head the story and he thanked me.

Bigger Bonus: This guy hated people asking what he was doing when he was working on trees. He was working on some spectacular willow in my hood that was easily viewed from the street. He especially hated 'meddlesome old bats.' I sent 3 his way to ask him all about it. "They like it when people ask them questions," I told the old dears as I sent each of them over. :P

A little uncoordinated in my college career, I got the Freshman semester of English at one school and had to take the second and third quarter at another school. That second quarter all the classes were filled except for this one section that still had a number of openings. First day, he gives us the, "You will create excellent work in my class or you will be humiliated" speech. Screw that. There's always another quarter. Had enough problems at the time without Mr. Miyagi from Community.

Obama promises to pay Indians $3 billion for our raping and pillaging of their land, even though they were low-balled by a court into only accepting $455 million out of their $47 billion claim. Americans don't buy the "recovery". Even McD's is having problems getting by. Baucus claimed his gf wanted to be an attorney, long before she boinked a nomination out of him. At least manufacturing's a bit higher. Oz meets an iceberg. Barry extends the bail-out, even though it's already cost us $61 billion. Anyone need some chihuahuas? The House keeps the tax breaks going, but only two Republicans supported 'em. A tiny island doesn't have the dough to buy its way into emission reform. TIME finally tells it like it is about college. Cali's economically fucked until Arnie leaves. Greece going down? Beck's got a conflict of interest. Iran learns from the West how to use "national security" as an excuse to stifle dissent. Obama will pay you to play with your caulk. Will a state which, until now, banned vibrators accept a gay mayor?

Liberalicious's picture

back in the eighties, we had a mayoral race in Houston, where one of the candidates (a right-wing a-hole) was caught LIVE on camera making a joke about how the cure for AIDS would be to "shoot the queers". He lost by a landslide and was publicly humilated and Houston got its first female mayor. But now, with the Black male candidate having no problem being endorsed by anti-gay groups, it's a nightmare. Oddly...fiscally conservative groups are endorsing lesbian Annise Parker. I hope she wins, but this city is NOT what it used to be.

Annaleigh's picture

OMG, there's no way I could deny that that story isn't true. I see homeless chihuahuas and chihuahua mixes all the time. My Jeremy was one of them, even. And I cared for a teeny pup this summer that was found my neighbor children by the side of the road. People in this town take in dogs all the time but kick them out at the slightest provocation, whether that's behavioral problems, or their losing their cuteness, or whatever.

It's really sad.

Edit - And Jeremy still has some health issues from being abused during his time on the streets...

Makes me so mad...

I was working as a cashier in a large chain a couple of years back when Chihuahua's were rampant with the Paris Hilton clones.
One of the them (P H clone) came to my till and without my brain being aware it was going to happen, my mouth spouted off with: "where's your little dog"? She looked amazed and said that her boyfriend was walking him, and asked how I knew she had one. I stammered something about how she must have been in the store with him before and I'd seem them.
I need to learn to turn off my mouth sometimes. Or else keep my brain one step ahead.

This is a big deal, but i am not hearing much noise about it. Uganda may start executing Homosexuals and the American Right is to blame.

The Family which includes members of Congress and their anti gay agenda have moved the Ugandan Parliament to consider passing a law that would make Homosexuality a crime punishable by death. The two members of Parliament who are pushing this bill are members of the family.

If they can't stop them from marrying over here will they settle for killing them over there?

Yes, if we let them.

We need to raise our voices and raise a fuss about this before it is too late.
