Tell congress you demand a strong singlepayer public option

You have nothing to lose by signing this petition. NOTHING TO LOSE.
This petition has REAL political teeth unlike most petitions that so called liberals and progressives have. Unfortunately liberal groups like Progressive Democrats of America, PNHP, Families USA, Health Care for America Now do not appear to me real liberal groups. I consider them moderate groups.
Don’t complain if you don’t sign the petition. Noone that I can see except the people who signed the petition goes after the major reason for the lack of progressive legislation: The companies that give money to conservatives who bought this legislation that appears a give away to drug companies and insurance companies.
Imagine that the United States is a large ship with a hole in its foundation bringing in enough water to sink it. On board are donkeys calling for the hole to be patched, and elephants who insist that nothing needs to be done as the U.S.S. America is the greatest ship ever built. How might different kinds of captains handle the situation?
~
• Astonished that the animals on board would argue over whether to patch a hole, Captain Jimmy Carter would just roll up his sleeves, grab his tools, and begin to fix it himself. Sadly, however, he would lack the physical strength required to ward off the elephants, who would pull him from his efforts, and throw him overboard.
~
• Captain Ronald Reagan would give amazing orations about how the hole in the boat is not the problem; the boat is the real problem. Because we've all become too dependent on the boat, it's time for donkeys and elephants to learn how to swim. Then, as the animals tried desperately to prepare, he'd reserve seats on the life boats for his richest elephant friends, dispense life preservers to his next richest elephant friends, and commandeer the ship for secret military missions for as long as it stayed afloat.
~
• Lamenting that the problem could not be solved by shooting the ship's biggest guns, Captain George H. W. Bush would promise the elephants not to do anything about the hole, but would be bothered by the fact that the ship would probably sink. After a while, he'd propose some lackluster, inefficient ways to patch the hole to see what the animals thought. As the water continued to pour in, both the donkeys and the elephants would tire of his command, and throw him overboard.
~
• Captain Bill Clinton would eagerly and enthusiastically head over to the hole to try to fix it, but would relent when the elephants roared. He'd head back to the deck to talk with the animals, and try to think of ways to keep the boat afloat even with the hole. Most of his ideas would be thwarted, though, as he would have to spend most of his time running from elephants trying to throw him overboard.
~
• After remarking about how cool the water looked as it flowed into the boat, Captain George W. Bush would immediately hand out all the seats on the lifeboats and all the life preservers to the richest few elephants he knew. Then, he would proudly threaten to smash more holes in the boat until the perpetrator who created the first hole confessed. When no one confessed, he'd grab his hammer and bat, and begin to smash the boat apart, cackling maniacally with every bang. As terrified animals asked just what the fuck he thought he was doing, he'd smile and point them to history books from 500 years in the future, which would call his move the greatest and most heroic action of all time. Any donkey that did not agree that his actions would both fix the boat and catch the guy who made the hole would be sent to the Brig for torture.
~
• Convinced that a compromise was possible between the donkeys and the elephants, one that would make every animal on board happy as a clam, Captain Barack Obama would engage in intense negotiations, and agree to install a screen door.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
the new clintonian whitehouse, worse than the old clintonian whitehouse. (R)ahm is completely in charge and Obama has thrown his own people out into the street, starting with Howard Dean, who gave Obama everything he needed to beat Hillary and to bet the RepuglyK K.kans.
Now Obama is finding that after all the changes he made because he did not have the courage of his convictions, if he indeed had any, he is surrounded by people who don't care one jot about this country or its people.
Everywhere you look in his cabinet you find a b0o$h holdover or you find DLC. Obama never had any allies among the media, either, when he appeared to be progressive. Now that he's done so much to emulate the 'center-right' they lied to him about, he's finding that the media is using that against him as well, citing public outrage among other things. When Obama 'succeeds' with the HCR cr@p, he will then be blamed for the subsequent suffering and rightfully so.
Maybe, since he has been a corporatist all along, Obama does not now care and maybe has never cared. Maybe he's just another politician. Like Clinton.
I hope this opens people's eyes to the DLC/DSCC/DCCC and to the fact that these entities are in it for the money and nothing else. The White House is the new K-Street.

Meanwhile, as the boat sank beneath the waves, Congress was called to order to vote on starting the debate as to whether or not holes sink ships.
It was decided not to open debate, however, when it was pointed out that holes are just empty space and it wasn't worth their time debating nothing at all.
Glub, glub, glub...

Goddamnit, John Ensign. Shut the f up. Right this minute, on CSPAN, John is throwing around BS about insurance being the same as dish washers. "If the gubment requires people to buy insurance, what next? Dish washers or cars?" <-not his exact words
Why should the government have the power to force us to purchase something?
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

How much insurance do you want to buy? And do you want fries with that? We're screwed.

For our own good, of course.

Seriously? (Or are you joking around?)
If you're serious, well, . . .
1. Nobody is forced to purchase car insurance under penalty of law. People are forced to purchase car insurance if they are going to drive a car on public roads. No law says that you have to drive. Moreover, They're not doing it for "our own good." They're protecting other drivers from our negligent actions.
2. If the government is allowed to force us to do things for our own good, Ensign has a point. How about forcing us to purchase only certain kinds of food for our own good?
Forcing us to purchase something we might not want is not what government should be about. At least, not one based on liberty.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
Many, perhaps most Farmers and Ranchers have unliscenced(sp) vehicles that never leave the ranch or farm........some are still driveable nyuk, nyuk nyuk ;-)
'Talk to the hand'
How about forcing food companies to actually produce food? Most of what's on the shelf today shouldn't even classify as 'food.'
You purchase roads, schools, firemen(and firewomen), cops, the military, etc, etc with your tax dollars every year. It's all part of that "life, liberty, pursuit of happiness" shtick. How, exactly, is being healthy not part of being alive and happy?
Not to defend Ensign, but I'm not happy with the requirement to have health insurance as it is written right now. Make me pay a higher percentage in taxes. That's fine. Make everyone pay a higher percentage. Give us single payer!
we should ask him how his wife is. Oh, you mean that was his employees wife?
May you live short and be poor!

Respectfully Mr. President,
You are what you DO, not what you say?
Your words had value once. They were precious. Now they pour out like stale coffee.
I'd rather lick an ashtray than listen to you anymore.
This won't matter to you because I am not a beltway insider or a wealthy patron or a corporate lobbyist.
But I can guarantee you this:
1 )not another dime for a Democrat until I see his/her voting record
2) any support for a corporatist bill, even one. I vote them out in the primary
3) if I find any association with the DLC, DSCC or DCCC they do not get my vote
4) 2012 You don't get my vote
I know this won't matter to you because I am not a beltway insider or a wealthy patron or a corporate lobbyist. That's OK. I know now what you are because of what you do.

Well you got it
Darth Vader heads to Wall Street. A Brit priest says stealing is acceptable, if the situation of the individual is dire enough. The Ft. Hood guy isn't allowed to pray. R.I.P. Olivia from Sesame Street. Mexico City's got no problem with gay marriage. Baby car seats get recalled. Now you can get off if a stranded plane takes longer than three hours to leave the tarmac. A Cali board agrees to fuck up more Mexican chromosones. An detailed look at the history on the problem here. Now they're trying to sucker us with "clean" gas. Ford offers to buy out its employees' retirement plans. STDs are becoming common among teen girls. The low-down on health care "reform". Dunno what's worse: That Cali's forced to pay up for not making its roadways more handicapped-accessible or reactions from the anti-"frivolous" lawsuit haters. Anyone want Al Franken to do some more cock-blocking of Lieberman, sign this petition requesting he not vote for the final bill without a public option. Prince William literally goes slumming. Betting on our misery. Parker Griffith can lose his party seat. The Vatican continues its quest to beatify a Holocaust-enabler.
says it's okay to steal if the Gov isn't taking care of you at the expense of others. The Ft Hood guy isn't allowed to pass on secrets in another language. Mexico City goes beyond the rest of Mexico and all other Latin countries in lack of morals. Car seat manufacture admits that their seats aren't as safe as wrapping the baby in bubble wrap and encasing them in a square yard of polyurethane foam, but still almost better than leaving them at home with a pit bull or rottweiler as a baby sitter. Gov says if your plane is more than 3 hours overdue walk out the door. Cali board says if your worried about what we do here go the F'n home(and I agree). Clean natural gas that you cook your food on and heat your homes may soon light them too. Ford being nice offers its employees 70k+ rather than fire them. Since fisting has been promoted in the US std are up to 50%............ I could go on but do you really want me too?

Korea has invested in state-of-the-art hospitals in hope of attracting medical tourism. I have met lots of Europeans in Thailand, there for dental work.

And yes they are traveling to Thailand and getting cheaper care, in an OMG for profit system. Including OMG for profit insurance.
Now we have to think, what is the big difference? Perhaps regulation? And also(although I don't know this for a fact and if someone wants to prove me wrong that's fine) perhaps that most people there don't have insurance so it invites competition? A Veterinarian in the US has as much schooling as a Human Doctor, but I take my dog to his Dr. what does it cost me? About $40, now if I take myself to my Dr. what does it cost me? About $120. Why such a big difference? Especially considering that the Vet spends probably 3x as much time(at least)in the room as my Dr. So I pay 3x more for 3x less care.
Why is there so much of a difference? IMHO it is insurance, for the average person who has it, it pays a large part of everything so they don't have to shop around. Who cares if a checkup costs 50 or 150 if all you have to pay is 15? Let insurance companies offer different policies, everything from catastrophic care only to the so called gold plated plans that cover everything. My guess is that most people would go with the catastrophic and shop around for their everyday med care and costs would drop dramatically.
I hate to mention that I have seen a drive towards pet health insurance and I've seen a couple of Vets that are for it, I wonder why?
A couple of months back a friend cut the end of her finger off. She had no insurance so the first bill from the doctor was around $6500 with an option of a 50% reduction if she paid it off within 2 weeks. An insurance company would have had to pay the extra $3250. She took the option.

What a surprise. Banks which lobbied the most were more likely to be bailed out. Anyone want salmonella-flavored hazel nuts?
these are the results of corp america controlling the mass media
this is the beauty of capitalism it is working almost to perfection.
in a dumbed down society not a stupid society but a dumbed down one this is easy to do.
the capitalists are ten times smarter than the general public
check history they always have been
this is why most of the world is a two class society
americans have not figured out yet that the middle class is a roadblock to the capitalists.
they want and need a 90% lower class to have third world wages to enhance their profits.
the capitalist's cares nothing about people or standard of living only profits.
until americans learn that they will continue to drop in wages and standard of living.
now quit whineing and be willing to work for ever lower wages. americans are in love with capitalism now they can make the capitalists even more wealth.
two jobs go for it is the american way.
and dont forget to bail out wall street with your love of capitalism.
when the capitalists fail they just go to the dumbed down and use their money to bail them out.
ten times smarter and prove it everyday as they control congress and the white house.

After enough generations of dumbed down have occurred, then stupid sets in. I think we're there now. It's okay to say stupid.
President Obama is claiming to be upset that people are so misinformed about the pending health care legislation. He says that 95% of what he campaigned on is in the bill. Really? An interesting figure considering that he's already gone back on two promises that convinced many to prefer him to Clinton, Edwards and McCain (no mandate & no crossing state lines to allow incorporation in states whose laws favor corporations).
He also says he never really campaigned on or promised the public option. Oh yeah?
Heh, there's a famous Berkeley, CA character known as the Hate Man. He's a very intelligent homeless person who will not speak to you unless you tell him you hate him. Maybe Obama's working on a similar principle. Maybe we're going about this the wrong way. Maybe we should call him a Muslim Nazi Socialist Communist Hitler Terrorist so he'll negotiate with us.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
