Because these idiots have nearly destroyed the country, and they have no intention of stopping.

They are so freaking clueless, they think it was FDR's fault, even though he eliminated the huge wealth discrepancies, kept Wall Street theives in check for 60 years, and helped create the pro working class envitonment that produced the largest and most prosperous middle class the world has ever seen. All, despite the completely commited resistance of the republican party.

Unemployed? Yeah tea baggers, the conservatives will help with taht. After all, they are the ones who had your job shipped overseas to begin with.

Ron Paul won the straw poll at the CPAC Convention and took the mantle away from Mitt Romney:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/20/cpac...

Here's Ron Paul's speech at CPAC (three parts):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfY1wXo_Sz0&fe...

It's interesting. The guy's calling for shutting down all the military bases world-wide, not going to war without a war resolution from Congress, shutting down the Federal Reserve (his bill to audit the Feds passed in the House already and is moving through the Senate, I believe), being more tolerant of other people's political philosophy's, respecting the Constitution, he's into personal freedom and doing away with the War on Drugs, and on and on.

When it was announced that he had won the straw poll some in the audience (the Palin neocons who are calling for an illegal "pre-emptive war on Iran"), booed him.

So, here we have an anti-MIC "best friend to Dennis Kucinich" winning the Conservative PAC's straw poll for president as he denounced NEOCONS.

Interesting times....

I kinda wish Obama and the Democrats would back some of Ron Paul's positions....

republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness!

NoBuddy's picture

This infatuation with Ron Paul is where a little knowledge is dangerous, of course, depending on your perspective.

My problem with Ron Paul is his opposition with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which, among other things, meant that, for example, a luncheonette couldn't deny service to a potential customer based on the prospective customer's race. Similarly, a hotel couldn't refuse accommodations for racial discrimination reasons. Ron Paul believes the bill violates the Constitution, based on a "freedom of association" rationale. The Supreme Court upheld the Civil Rights Act under the theory that the "commerce clause" within the constitution gave Congress the authority to forbid racial discrimination.

This position has made Ron Paul the darling of the neo-confederate branches of the libertarians and tea party people, as well as white supremacists everywhere.

Currently, populism is taking over both the Democratic and Republican parties, which in no small sense, prompted the Supreme Court to go beyond the issues being litigated to create this "corporations are people" concept, in an effort to retain corporate control of both predominant political parties. In looking for alternatives, it is important to look "under the hood" to see how much bathwater is mixed in with the baby.

So far, I don't see a lot of bathwater with Kucinich. However, the Civil Rights issue with Ron Paul is a showstopper. We need to confine our championing to issues, not the man.

The prevailing issue we have is the corrupting influence of Big Money and Big War on the government. Seems Massachusetts just elected Big Money to the Senate, as I'm hearing that out of state banks financed Brown's campaign in opposition to Obama's proposed tax on banks. That's what paid for the surge in campaign ads on television in the last 5 days, so I'm told.

Milquetoast's picture

audit-prosecute-incarcerate

NoBuddy's picture
BS

Whether Ron Paul is a racist is irrelevant, and I don't think that he is. The issue is whether he thinks that the Civil Rights Act unconstitutionally prohibits others from discriminating on racial grounds.

This YouTube clip is quite disingenuous. In addressing the racist charge, he deflects the position taken on the Civil Rights Act to the so called "War on Drugs", which is only an aspect of racism. My opinion on the War On Drugs is that it is really a war on personal freedom.

This clip has the BS meter pegged on the 100% mark, since it doesn't address Ron Paul's opposition to the Civil Rights Act based on a "freedom of association" basis. Listen to this clip, "talk about that", meaning the war on drugs. I'm not interested in talk on the war on drugs, even though I oppose this war as well.

You need to post the YouTube clip on the position taken on the Civil Rights Act, particularly "The federal government has no legitimate authority to infringe on the rights of private property owners to use their property as they please and to form (or not form) contracts with terms mutually agreeable to all parties." It is this position that has the white supremacists wrapping their arms around Ron Paul, and that is the issue requiring addressing. The YouTube clip doesn't address this issue.

Dire Lobo's picture

Well said.

Timjoebillybob's picture

absolutely no problem with a private business owner discriminating on the basis of race or religion or sex or anything else. The Govt that is a different story.

Hell if I had my choice I would open up a bar that only allowed large breasted, green eyed, redheaded nymphos. But my wife would I think have a problem with that. Besides that small problem. I don't think the Gov should have any say who a business owner employs or allows in.

REMOVE THE SS CAP

Timjoebillybob's picture

a cap on what you can get back? If so, why shouldn't there be a cap on how much you pay in? How is that not paying your fair share? If you want it to be "fair" people should not be able to receive benefits of more than they(and their employers) paid in plus interest.

A self employed person paying the maximum capped amount, would pay over 13k a year. And maximum payout per year is 8,088.

Terrible's picture

reach the max. If you still think not Joe the not a plumber makes $250 grand a year then you're still living in a dream world.

Timjoebillybob's picture
Max

is currently capped at $106,800. You don't think a lot of self employed people out there make that much? Gross?

ron's picture

get your information because it is completely bogus.

Terrible's picture

Hell even me making about 20 grand a year I'll receive a little over $12 grand a year when I retire at 67 IF I live that long AND the crazy America hating Republicans don't finish destroying the SS system.

But of course you know timjoebillybob is a "conservative" and they don't like the truth because it makes them feel dirty, bad or something.

Timjoebillybob's picture

years until you retire at 67? The numbers I listed were for 2010.

Terrible's picture

NOT worker Social Security benefits!!! TRY and pay attention. Surely you know at least ONE person who collects Social Security who can clear your ignorance up for you.

I worked in a very busy H&R Block office for 5 years back in the late 90's and saw thousands of 1099SS forms which show the amount paid out to retired workers in benefits that started LONG before 2010 and they ran anywhere from around $8 grand a year up to $15 grand a year.

Timjoebillybob's picture

I was looking at the wrong chart. Current max at retire age of 65 is about $26k a year. But that is if you earned the max since age 22.
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/COLA/examplemax.html

But neither of you answered my original question. If the amount you can get back is capped, why shouldn't the amount you pay in be capped also?

ron's picture

Do you make more than the max and if not, why would you give a shit? If the cap is lifted perhaps the the benefits would be lifted. Try thinking out of the box.

Timjoebillybob's picture

I don't. And why do I give a shit? Because I don't feel an individual should have to pay in more than his "fair share". And as for the benefits being lifted? Yeah right.

I answered your questions, would you please answer mine?

Timjoebillybob's picture

their fair share. Look at this chart to see how they figure benefits. Up until you start getting into the higher income brackets your earnings are indexed. Which means they figure your benefits as if you earned more and therefore paid more in.
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/ProgData/retirebenefi...

miss_kitty's picture

but you can draw on it for decades. Long after the amount you put in is gone. SS was designed to pay four years past retirement. People had shorter life spans then, and making it past 4 years was less likely than going on until you were 100. The odds were with the house, in gamblers' terms.
The other thing, is that someone like Bill Gates, who has no need for the money, can draw on the system long beyond the time HIS pay-in amount is exhausted.

It's what I like to call 'Bad Math.'

ron's picture

If you live forever, you can collect forever and there is no cap on the amount you collect.

Timjoebillybob's picture

limit the amount that SS will pay out, to what the person paid in. With interest of course.

My stepfather, who worked all his life gets about $600. a month in SS and he's 81.

ron's picture

over $15,000 as we speak so take your information and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Timjoebillybob's picture

Over 15k? I'm assuming your not getting SS but SSI and you have a couple of kids right? Current SS for a couple is just over a grand a month or 12,132 a year.

ron's picture

no kids.

Terrible's picture

COMPLETELY backwards. Just as we have come to expect from the fake conservative radicals.

Terrible's picture

"For example, a person who had maximum-taxable earnings in each year since age 22, and who retires at age 62 in 2010, would receive a reduced benefit based on a PIA of $2,413.30."

Reagan was a good frontman for the Republican machine.

Somehow I doubt he ever had an original thought, nor actually made any of the decisions within his own administration.

He projected a kind of reassuring warmth and toughness that made people feel secure.

So I think it's easy for those who were captivated by his charm to idolize him, and associate that comfort of reassurance with a time gone by when St. Ronnie ruled the Land.

He was an excellent frontman for the Republican machine.
