I live in Savannah & received on Friday morning a robocall from The US Chamber of Commerce, stumping for Saxby Chambliss, saying he'll lower taxes & correct the economy. The US Chamber of Commerce was specified both at the very beginning of the ad & at the end, indicating they were the ones paying for the call.
Is that legal? The US Chamber of Commerce stumping for senators? And paying to endorse them?
What gives?

With what went on today with a Wal-Mart worker getting stampeded on to death, and other aggressive shopping, I'm glad I didn't take any part in that. Not to mention that I am not so fond of crowds.
It's nice to sleep in and hardly have any pity for those materialistic shopping people who practice a holiday that is really just paganism, where the definition of it is so unfounded.
Too bad people don't look into the better things of life than what can be bought from a store. The intangible things are usually a lot better than those that are tangible.
A free market, which is not a fair or good market, has resulted in Christmas being nothing more than materialistic and paganism.
With so much we are buying and borrowing from China, the worst case scenario in a few years, the USA will become "New China" or the "United States of China" as the Chinese buy our country out. Maybe that would've happened more likely if McCain was the president-elect.
I sure hope that Obama will encourage Americans to be less materialistic and be more content with what they have and what they can do.
Yeah retailers need to extend such deals over a week or something so people stop this be there before the store opens bull shit panic. I'm not so sure I agree C&L's position to support the 'Buy Nothing Day' either.
Considering sales are kind of important to our economy (especially now) it seems to me there are more responsible ways of putting a spot light on the ludicrous nature of black Friday. Such as putting the Walmart fiasco at the front of the news (such as C&L is doing a few posts earlier) or the shooting at Toy R Us today, then using that to make a call to end it. Perhaps writing our political representatives using such examples.
If the executives at Wal-Mart had a f'ing brain they would have had that poor man who was trampled outside in a warm jacket with a scarf and hat putting wrist bands on people with numbers. Then there would have been no reason to stampede through the door.
Same goes when there's a crowd to buy Springsteen tickets etc.
Wal-Mart could have made the shopping experience a fun, festive event by giving out the wrist bands, having workers outside with hot chocolate, cider and doughnuts, maybe had little freebies for the kids so things would be orderly.
It will be interesting to see how Wal-Mart handles the funeral of this man and how they treat his surviving family.
As for me, I got my hair done, came home, ate left over vegetarian goodies (I have a great Pumpkin Cheesecake recipe with brandy if anyone wants it BTW) and I watched "Captain Blood" with Errol Flynn for the tenth time.
No shopping for me.

Saturnalia a Roman winter holiday Christmas is based on (like Dies Natalalis Solis Invictus, Jul, and Alban Arthann.) In Saturnalia boys would get balls, girls dolls, and adults exchanged candles to signify the returning light. It actually sounds more civilized than Christmas.
In fact, Christmas used to be a drunken riot; that's why the Puritans tried to ban it. But Prince Albert, who came from Germany brought their customs to England. They were based on German Paganisnm. That was carols, Christmas cards, and decorated trees, much like Yggdrasill. Victorian England turned it into a family occassion and gift giving, which merchants were only too happy to participate in. Then it spread to America. Interesting thing is the traditional greeting in England was Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year, where the drunken riot was transferred to.

This video is to say dont buy anything on nov 28 and try to change from a heavy hitting consumer into living on what you have instead of constantly upgrading. You may n ot understand but when your grand kids have to pay more for water than oil they will.

C'mon people! Just think about what you buy and whether it is hurting the environment or another being. Does it matter whether you need it or not? It's all relative and if everyone stopped buying things, there would be heck of a lot of good, responsible folks without a job or source of income.
With this mentality, I shouldn't donate to C&L because I don't really need it. Think about it...

I would never sleep with someone I was dating casually. And I never date more than one guy at a time. I cannot imagine sleeping with more than one person during a given timeframe.

But there is stuff you can get WITH condoms (e.g., genital warts). I have little desire to take chances.
I don't have to love someone to sleep with them (I don't love too easily...it has been a very long time since I have loved anyone), but I do have to know that neither of us are or planning to sleep with someone else.

Unfortunately, I have no need for condoms. Women always seemed to assume I was some kind of intellectual with no interest in sex.
When I was in my teens they seemed to really like my long thick hair; it grew in waves of glossy black except for one white streak. When I was studying scripts in the Arts Magnet Center, the dancers would be brushing my hair admiring it, and I had to pretend I wasn't looking at their breasts, because they didn't wear bras under their leotards. Even in my twenties women would say they were jealous of my hair. Although I had one young lady I was working on at a convention say I would've made a good looking women. Later in my late twenties and early thirties when I was body building they liked to grab my biceps.
I was the one they came to (not with) for advice on their boyfriends, husbands and kids. They liked the fact that I was direct and usually accurate in how I read situations. Unfortunately, all the single women were interested in was in shopping, what kind of car you drove, etc. More and more often when I spoke they didn't seem to understand what I was saying.
Judging by what I see, many people would make a better investment joining a gym than buying new clothes. Just sayin'. And no resources consumed.

I'd prefer Obama re-think the entire world situation, our available resources, our national human/infrastructure/economic needs THEN see if there's a REALLY good reason to commit our troops to battle anywhere in the world. Well you bang on your drums not to buy, recycle and blah blah blah. I say we need to buy to support our communities where we all live. Its nice to have a peter pan outlook but this is real life afterall, isn't? We need each other more now than ever. People are having hard times and its going to get worse before it gets better. This is the way of america we must show we can get ourself out of these messes. Yes I recycle cans, newspapers and anything that I can. I have been doing that a very long time now. We are in the lower middle class and we have very things we enjoy doing. This is one to get on the computer. I don't know what else to cut back on.
