to call the Secret Service today (along with other people calling the SS too evidently), because some sick bastard was making threats on Twitter against the President and the First Lady.
I was especially horrified and sickened by the specific threat against Mrs. Obama.
Based on what another caller heard about from the SS, they are looking into it and Twitter is cooperating.
I guess you can say I've seen with my own eyes how crazy the color of our President's skin makes people. It's scary.
Edit - I'll let you all know if I hear from them tomorrow.

watching Michael Moore's new dvd and it almost makes tears come to my eyes. If you are not a follower of what has been going on in our country, you may end up crying like a baby. It's pretty good at disclosing every thing that has happened because of the capitalist corporatist neocon greedy bastards that run our country.
could be a year or two further but not much longer. The wagon wheels are coming off, the news reports the hard reality (of course 5 pages back in the business section) every day. Yet it appears politicians, the FED and people in control with exception of a few are all standing around with their thumbs up their ass doing nothing about it.

Did I hear him right? Kucinich was acting like Nader, should be held responsible for people who die for lack of health care if HCR goes dwon to his voting "no,"'that he wasn't representing his district, and should get a primary opponent if he votes no.
Is he a corporatist tool without a pair or stones or what?

saying that is some putdown, he IS a fucking corporatist tool. While many people here would never want to admit it, when Nader ran for pres, every plank in his platform was the same as what everyone here is yelling for. Every plank was progressive.
And supposedly ex CIA. I don't think you ever leave the Company, and I've known some spooks in my time. Even after retirement, they were still spooks, on boards of spooky corporations and still traveling and going to spooky locations.

Dennis Kucinich was advocating for health care reform long before Moulitsas ever conceived of Daily Kos. Moulitsas and guys like Joe Stein from Huffington Post presuming to go on TV and lecture us about DK is the epitome of someone who has become enamored of their own celebrity. They are infants compared to Kucinich. They should show some respect or lose any they have. Then they have the nerve to insult another veteran politician like Nader by invoking his name as some kind of insult to any one that disagrees with the almighty Barack Obama, saviour of Rome.
Makes me want to vomit.

Nader's platform than his role in electing Bush as the price paid for getting to enjoy the purity of his platform. He was pretty adamant about the point of people needing coverage or access to coverage right now being more important than making a purist statement. At least that was my take. If you want my opinion I have found Ralph Nader to be an insufferable self righteous asshole ever since I became associated with his devotees while in college. I had one roommate in PIRG and another in Scientology and it was hard to figure out which had become more cult like. Fortunately they both outgrew their masters.
Do I hold Nader responsible for Bush? I hold him responsible for everything bad that happened to America since he drove the Corvair off the assembly line. I firmly believe this is just as rational as at least half the things that get blamed on Obama here daily. Blaming Nader, that is. It really isn't rational to suggest he literally drove a Corvair off the assembly line. He probably never drove one himself. Does he even drive?
“Why would anyone with a functioning brain believe this guy?”

But I can't blame him for 2000. Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris effectively purged tens of thousands of legitimate voters from the rolls, some asshole- not Nader- came up with that confusing butterfly ballot, and worst of all: The SCOTUS put the kibosh on a recount that Gore would have won.

critical of either Nader or Kucinich for their views.
He was saying there were consequences to Nader running for President that were unpleasant, namely helping Bush get elected, and there would be consequences in Kucinich voting against health care if the bill goes down, namely some people not getting some of the immediate benefits in the bill.
As for Andy's point, I don't blame Nader for the theft of Florida., I blame him for Bush winning New Hampshire, which made the theft of Florida matter.

It's amazing how someone who was never elected president, hell never even held office, has had such an influence on american politics. You base your opinion on your experiences with a couple of individuals? You really don't do much research before coming to conclusions do you?
Do you really believe the corvair was a safe car? You think seat belts haven't saved lives that otherwise would have been lost if not for Nader's persistence? You think corporations are good for the country? You think the bloated defense budget is necessary, as are the wars that Nader objected to?
I fully realize that I am wasting my time asking these questions, but such a biased comment like yours, so devoid of critical thinking and slathered with subjective, Glenn Beckish opinionating, cannot go unchallenged. Not while I have the ability to type.

I admire Trantorian. He's a dude nostalgic for the good old Sixties. You know, when Nader created the NTSB, the agency from which graduated the two staff guys who were able to cover up the recent Toyota defects.
Hey, don't tell him that it was the insurance industry which made seat belt use mandatory.

we are now the majority, why are we running scared?
You're thinking long term, something professional Democratic operatives are loathed to do. At any given moment in political time, Democrats are only thinking in terms of what they need to do to win their next election. And that's what's happening here, especially with the heat Dennis Kucinich is attracting.
Democrats only see the albatross for not passing something they can call reform. And it's not that they're too stupid to understand that the bill has a high chance of not working. That's why it won't go into effect until 2013.
See, in 2013, they hope Obama will have already been reelected. By which point, there will be plenty of other issues with which to distract Americans. They'll have forgotten something was passed back in 2010 that would have a real effect on their lives.
Moreover, what they're really shooting for here is not fixing the health care system. It's passing something they can point to for their angry electorate this November. Of course, they don't want it actually to take effect by then. If it's a big backfire, and insurance companies are simply enriched, that would be the albatross you fear. So, they've made sure it won't go into effect by then.
Of course, not everyone is buying it. Like Kucinich and those of us who support him. For us, they have already trotted out the "Don't worry, we'll add a public option later!" meme.
Riiiiigggghhhttt!
Anyway, long story short, they're not worried about that albatross because if their hand has been played right, it won't matter until Obama's second term. As Seinfeld once put it, "That's not my problem. It's tomorrow Jerry's problem."
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
It would appear that "our" Democrats need to pass Something||Anything that they can call can call Health Care Reform, even if it only benefits the Healthcare Insurance industry -- as if the voters can be duped into the belief that "Well, they tried, and this HCR package was the best that they could come up with" while blaming the Republicans. And since the "benefits" will not kick in until After the next general election in 2012, the Democrats can parlay their HCR bill, no matter how badly it stinks, into some net benefit for 2 whole election cycles.
All this, instead of passing Real (TM) Health Care Reform that actually benefits the voters instead of the Democrats true constituency, the Corporations, who will definitely be upset enough with their proteges in Congress to turn off the big money spigot. Many||Most Democratic politicians are counting on the voters' short memories, or else some other emerging disaster, to take voters' minds off their intransigence.
So, here's the $64 USD question: If politicians need vast sums of money to convince voters to vote for them in leu of actually performing "good works", but the politicians do their duty, perform those "good works" and win the admiration and votes of their constituents, why would they then need that vast sum of money to convince their already won-over constituents ?? What am I missing in this logic ??

did Nader pick Lieberman?
did Nader lose, as an incumbent, to the idiot son of a failed ex-president?
did Nader fail to out debate a chimpanzee?
did Nader roll over and take it from the Bushies in Fl?
What did Nader owe the corporate stooges we call Democrats?
They wouldn't even allow him in the debates with a ticket.
If these inept, bought and paid for democrats can't pass a bill with more than a ONE VOTE MAJORITY it's not Dennis' fault.
I'll never go back to daily kos...he's way too full of himself. and full of BS to boot.
I don't blame 2000 on Nader. He had little, if any, effect on that dreary election cycle.
But I'm not sure I agree with all of your statements either.
No, but Lieberman didn't have any effect either, except maybe to drive some to Nader, but hardly enough to switch the result.
Did Gore?
Gore took the fought the case every step of the way, all the way to the Supreme Court. At that point, what would you have done? (I'm not actually defending Gore here. Perhaps there was a way for him to continue fighting, and there may be many arguments for why he should have, even if it meant a Constitutional crisis and a civil war. But rolling over and taking it from the Bushies? Not a fair characterization in my opinion.)
Never liked Kos much myself. ;)
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
I'm not talking about simply Florida with the Lieberman thing...you underestimate the racism of the Amurikan public. Plus, we've seen what a gigantic scumbag he is...nice choice Al.
Did Gore lose? I never saw him take the oath. HE LOST, no matter how adly it was stolen. It should have never been close. How did an incumbent VP who oversaw that much prosperity lose to a nitwit who's biggest achievement was daddy buying him a baseball team.
Gore fought every step of the way? Tell me Rove & Cheney would have capitulated like that? We would have been bombarded with screams of a new vote and stories about the voter rolls being purged. Or have NOT heard about how HIS daddy appointed the judges that were anointing him president? You're dreaming if you think the republicans would have given up that easily.

What stood out most glaringly about the ceremony was the extent to which the realities of life faced by millions of people were absent, both in the films honored (with few exceptions) and the program itself. The world and the country are gripped by the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, bringing with it high levels of unemployment and social misery, the Obama administration is prosecuting two neo-colonial wars and threatening more, the US seethes with social frustration and discontent, and yet none of this found the slightest expression in last night’s broadcast....
For the super-wealthy liberal milieu, the election of an African-American (or a woman, or…) is the apotheosis of their politics. They have reached the limits of their vision. This was reflected in the awards ceremony—the lack of genuine humor, sarcasm, let alone anger. No matter that the Obama administration is one of the most right-wing in modern American history.

Post WW2, on the matter of the economy and foreign policy, only Reagan and Bush2,IMO,exceeds the right wing character of the Obama administration.Certainly you've taken notice that Obama have done very little to roll back the Bush excesses and in some areas, have added to them.
to roll back the Bush excesses doesn't make him the most right wing in modern American history. Geezus Kriste, he's been in office just over a year. Do you honestly expect even Gawd to be able to clean up the mess the neocons have made for over 30 years?

Not to defend Obama from charges of right-wingery, but, there haven't been all that many administrations since WWII. There have been 12:
Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama.
I dunno if Ford even counts, since all he did was finish out Nixon's term. And everything progressive Johnson did was from Kennedy's original agenda anyway, and everything else he did included escalating unwinnable wars around the globe. (Not dissing Johnson here -- what he accomplished on the progressive side was fantastic, but even he said he was just doing what Kennedy would have done, or at least wanted to had he lived to finish his term.)
Then I have some questions about whether Obama is really more right wing than Nixon or Bush I were. I know a case could be reasonably argued, but it could easily be more a function of how Congress used to act vis-a-vis the executive. Congress did not subordinate itself to the executive in their times, whereas George W. acted like a dictator with little resistance within D.C. Once those powers gain any semblance of legitimacy, no president, Democrat, Republican or other, is going to easily give them up.
In any case, I think the administrations could arguably be listed from left to right as follows:
Kennedy/Johnson --> Truman --> Carter --> Clinton --> Eisenhower --> Obama --> Bush I --> Nixon/Ford --> Reagan --> Bush II
Yeah, you could knock Obama rightward a couple spaces (and even Eisenhower leftward a couple spaces), but it's all academic. What's really evident to me is that the Democratic Party has itself become increasingly right wing and corporatist since WWII. It is neither an accident nor the will of its constituency. That's what we should really pay attention to, since that's why we have President Obama.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

I still want to watch SiCKO, but I am well aware that his work contains a high degree of sophomoric behavior to exacerbate the situation. Moore's work has have many characteristics of propaganda, which I found to cheapen the truth of what he was saying. I'd advise renting this from iTunes or Net Flicks instead of buying it if you haven't yet seen it and know you want to own a copy.
Democracy is the road to socialism. ~ Karl Marx
in any respect. Look at what is going around in other areas other than your suberbs or gated community.
Do you really dare to assume that much while knowing nothing? Have you not even bothered to educate yourself on methods of propaganda? Did you even read what I wrote? No, I didn't think so.
Moore uses propaganda techniques in his films. As I said, I find their usage cheapens the truth of what he is talking about. I didn't say that he was a Left-wing nut-job hack. Next time, read was was said and think about something before you bloviate and make a fool of yourself.
Democracy is the road to socialism. ~ Karl Marx
Moore is a Film Producer which puts him in the category of artist... Artwork has always been a platform for political propaganda. I find myself agreeing with Moore's messages; but, whenever I watch his films; I feel like a little kid touring an aquarium on a school field trip. He is really bad about giving his audience the feel of being led around.
His style doesn't particularly appeal to me for that either. I had the same sensation watching Bill Maher's film. I'm an atheist, like Maher, and I found myself shaking my head at the method by which he was dragging us around on his personal mission to mock religion. When I want to watch a documentary, I prefer a matter of fact presentation of information and a clear timeline of events. "So-and-so did X, which then led to Y, and that is why we are at Z." The sophomoric stunts don't really serve any intellectual purpose either, but as a propaganda technique they do serve to ratchet up the emotional content. And all of this is Moore's right to do as the filmmaker. I just think his arguments would be better served by a more matter of fact method that could breach the walls of closed minds and expose them to the facts rather than bombard them in a way that forces them to become more entrenched in their ideas.
Democracy is the road to socialism. ~ Karl Marx
seen one Moore movie and that was enough. The way he twists and edits is outrageous.
I don't know if outrageous is the word I'd use, but the presentation does leave something to be desired when trying to reach people who most need to hear the facts.
Democracy is the road to socialism. ~ Karl Marx
I saw was bowling for columbine. He talks about how the NRA came there shortly afterward for a gun rally. It had been planned about a year in advance and they were required by law to have it, they canceled just about all the events, everything but the vote on officers. According to NY law they had to give the members 10 days notice of change for the vote, it was scheduled for 11 days after the shootings. How were they supposed to give the members notice? He also talks about Heston going to Flint MI for a gun rally. It wasn't a gun rally it was a get out the vote rally. Hestons speech was so heavily edited it wasn't funny, he literally cut words from different sections and spliced them together. OH and the beginning where Heston holds up the muzzle loader and does the "my cold dead hands" part was footage from another speech a year later, and not in CO.
And the Lockheed plant was funny, those missiles he talks about being rolled down the street when the children sleep. They are for launching satellites, those are the only ones they produce there.
There is more if you'd like to hear it.
Honestly, I don't because there is nothing here that is surprising to me. The laundry list of details doesn't matter to me. The man uses a large number of propaganda tricks when making his films. I find that their use cheapens the argument, but most people are so stupid they don't see what's going on. It becomes even harder to spot when we agree with the conclusions from the start. I'd really like someone to make a matter of fact list of cause and effect events instead of propaganda pieces.
Now, for a shocker: I consider myself far more Left-wing than most Liberals because I a much more Socialist than most, but I am a firm believer in an armed citizenry. I have questions about the degree of access to military grade weapons and I'm appalled by the inept fire arms awareness and training we have in this country. I don't believe we need to be armed to protect ourselves from the criminal element, although it is a definite bonus, but rather to protect ourselves from a totalitarian government. I was thrilled when the DC handgun ban was tossed out. I'm hoping the same thing happens in Chicago. But I also think we need a national registry of weapons, mandated training for owners AND their co-residents, and other serious and meaningful methods of educating people about them. I also want to see improved methods of limiting illegal weapons, but I'm not an expert on how to go about doing that.
Democracy is the road to socialism. ~ Karl Marx

They are having a full membership vote on this question: "Should MoveOn support or oppose the final health care bill if it looks like the plan recently proposed by President Obama?"
Corruption favors the wealthy.
RE: Guns vs. Butter thing. If our cops and soldiers are constantly worried about their families dying from being denied insurance, I'd imagine that makes us a lot more vulnerable to terrorist attacks than if we bring in "socialized" medicine. Barry wants to get "tough" on health care "fraud". BofA's debit card fee "reform". Is Greece basically America 1.0? The Pope looked the other way on child abuse allegations. John Roberts has no decorum in critiquing Obama. Continental will just cancel your flight if it can't get you off the tarmac. Peak gold? Tony considers rationing ambulances. For people eager to use the "s-word", Republicans have a lot in common with Kim Jong-Il's family. What retirement?
Just watched excerpts of Beck interview W/Massa on Huffpo.
Just two thoughts:
Two very creepy guys
Two intellectual equals
'Talk to the hand'
I love the part where Beck asks him "did you grope interns" and he responds with the body language and emphasis that make you expect an emphatic no but its actually an emphatic yes. "Yes I groped them! and tickled them too!!"
RECALLED
Just watching some of this on Countdown. Holy fucking shit! The look on Beck's face is priceless, I can just read the thought bubble "this guy is crazier than I am"
How do these idiots end up in congress?
someone needs to find the clip from Tosh.0 of the 2 weightlifters tickling each other in the bathtub. "all good fun until someone gets a b*ner"!!!!!!!!!
