Cheney and his staff were given doses of the anti-anthrax Cipro right after the 9/11 attacks

Somehow W managed to get all sorts of shit done. Why is it that Obama can't get a damn thing down without begging, cajoling and whining to the party of NO. Like you said Savannah, executive order.
How is it that when the Republicans want to pass a bill they can get almost all of their members to vote yes? Yet when the Democrats want to pass a bill a quarter of their caucus votes with the Republicans. Who is holding those Democrat/closet Republicans feet to the fire to get them to vote with their party?
and some independants don't always think clearly so, O'Donnell says that the media is going t attack her and they are. Are they going to vote for her because she is being attacked or because that proves she's qualified? Enquiring minds want to know if a witch is qualified to be a senator.
"I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do," O'Donnell told Maher.
"One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn't know it. I mean, there's little blood there and stuff like that," she said. "We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar."

If you don't have time to read the open thread today, you can watch (parts of it) in this short movie: Two presidents shoot the shit in the Whote House den. .
I left a reply to your comment about god giving me a heart in the value voters thread. If you read it I think you will understand my philosophy and my beliefs a bit better.
It's hard to read emotion sometimes in text. But I get the feeling you disapprove for lack of a better word my stance. Can I ask why? I can't see much of a problem in it. I'm more than willing to give something to someone in need if I am able, but I'm not willing to let someone take it without my consent.
I can't say I disapprove, I'm just nothing like that. I see myself as passing through. Life is transitory and I am a caretaker on the planet (not an owner). The planet is to be shared with all creatures and people (and I feel we need laws to stop people from destroying it.). I often give things away or get rid of things so I don't form strong attachments to material things. They are a burden I don't want or need.
I'd prefer if people don't help themselves, but if they do I try to understand why. I might have a few cross words for them, but that's it.
When I was in Thailand a few years ago, I woke up to an intruder in my room (a thief). I asked him what he was doing. He looked surprised and apologized. Then he left the room, backing out the door. He seemed genuinely ashamed. I think he was just desperate and maybe I should have given him a few bucks. I went to sleep again. I was not angry.
Did you watch my movie?Starring (the comments of) Annanleigh, Alerta_Alerta, Moi, Andy K, luwslips, RickinSF, savannah43, and some others. I can't recall all right this moment)
(And PS: it's should have not should of-- a common mistake. We use "have/has" and the "past participle" to form the present perfect tense. Eg: I should have known. The confusion comes in the contraction we use/make (only) when speaking, should've. Sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but I teach that stuff.)
just got done watching it now. I opened it up last night and got distracted. I liked it, but to tell you the truth the Palin one was funnier. But I'm sure both were a lot of work. Oh and I still have it open. It may be deleted on the web but it's stored in my cache. Muahahahaha.
And I have no problem with you correcting my grammar, I believe you do it to educate I'm fine with that. As a matter of fact, thank you. Some others do it to belittle or to attempt to refute someone ie their entire premise or ideology is incorrect because of a mistake in grammar or spelling. And I do know it is incorrect but it's habit/laziness.
And I can't say I disapprove for the most part with your ideology, except where it infringes on others.
I do believe in ownership, mainly because I believe I own myself. If I own myself I own responsibility of my actions and I own what I acquire with my effort if it doesn't infringe upon someone else's right of ownership iow take without their consent. It's not that they are taking an item, it is that they are in effect making me a slave. The only difference between a slave owner and a thief is a matter of degree. Or and this is a rude example but apt. If I have consensual sex with a woman we both consent and neither is a slave, but if I were to hold her down and rape her against her consent I would be in effect making her my slave for the time for my own pleasure.
If I woke up with a thief in my room, I would probably respond quite differently than you. Because if they are in my home uninvited in that situation, I would have to assume that they are not attempting to make me or my family a slave in a small degree, I will have to assume that they are planning to do serious harm to my family or myself.
But if I found someone in my garden at night stealing to feed their family, I wouldn't hurt them. Hell I would probably feed them. But since they attempted to take without my consent they will have to work for it. They can come over and pick weeds/mow my lawn etc. If they cannot do physical labor I will find something for them to do.
I know what you're saying, but I'm just not that attached to stuff. I understand your slavery analogy. It's like lying is stealing someones right to truth. Stealing is wrong, but I felt sorry for the guy and I was sleepy, so I just went back to sleep. It's not OK to steal, but I just didn't care that much. .
See, in yoga, it goes like this, if you want to be free. There are 5 steps to ignorance.
fear of death (all fear)
hate
attachment
ego
ignorance (of self, etc.) (bliss)
I'm working on diminishing ego. The top 3 are not big issues for me. Ego is hard to do.
attached to most stuff myself, the few things I am attached to have sentimental value. Well except for what seems to be this permanent bond with the keyboard at times :)
Such as my grandmothers/great grandmothers and now my wife's ring it's not really the ring itself it's the I won't say the memories it contains but perhaps the memories it evokes, I know I would still have the memories if the ring was gone it's just....
Or I have a .22 revolver that was my dads, it holds some sentimental value, but it is also a physical reminder to myself too make sure I stay close to my own son.
I was just watching c-span and Lindsey Graham spoke yesterday to the people at AEI. Toward the end of his speech he said the Patriot Act was set to expire the end of this year and no one was talking about it. Is that true? Is it about to expire and will they allow it to?
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
For some reason this guy pisses me off even more than people like Kristol. At first I thought it was because Friedman is actually admired at times by some people on the left. That may be part of it but I think I realized the bigger reason just now. I work in IT consulting and Friedman reminds me of the worst kind of business strategy consultants. They guys who don't actually know shit about anything but are really good at slick talking and throwing around a lot of nonsense with such confidence that senior executives will listen with rapt attention and make major changes to their companies based on the business fad of the month.
II agree with MikeD that Tom Friedman (TF) is utterly loathsome. The fact that such a stupid, brainwashed nonsense-spouter can get so much press and coverage tells us enough about US journalism or even, in many cases, scholarship. I disliked this hateful clown from the very first time I had witnessed his frightfully lightweight gibberish, I believe on Charlie Rose (CR), more than 10 years ago. Then, and since, I have noticed how CR routinely brings in obnoxious establishment figures and bearers of hate-propaganda.
I felt suspicious of this vacuous entity that very first time- even more so when they said he had won a Pulitzer. It further devalued that dreadfully dubious honor in my mind.
The crowning revelation of how such tragic empty-suits find resonance in vacuous corporate-types (idiots cloaked in suits) occurred for me when, about 4 years ago, I heard the newly self-appointed Provost at my own university singing high praises for this bigoted, narrow-minded zealot's great literary creation, The World is Flat, and recommended it as a must read for all. It boggled my mind to think the level of intellectual debasement that has become routine even on college campuses these days. Who can ever forget the freak show on the Columbia University campus when an Ivy League University President openly insulted the head of a sovereign nation (Iran) with obvious, shameless political motives. It was a spectacle beyond pathetic. However, I have long convinced myself that so-called prestige institutions are also dens of vicious ignorance, bigotry, glorification of stupidity over wisdom, and the lowest forms of pandering to money and power. The brainless occupant of the WH from 2000-2008, an Ivy League product, is a perfect example.
TF belongs in the hallowed group that includes Judith Miller, David Broder, Bill Kristol, David Horowitz, and the entire gang of corporate press-whores that infect American media. These soulless profiteers and hate-mongers have caused countless deaths of decent, innocent human beings around the world with their baseless, manufactured propaganda, and racial and ethnic bigotry. These are cruel death-dealers in the same ranks as (possibly worse than) a sweet-talking Ted Bundy. The damage they have done is far worse than anything the latter ever did.

"There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down." - Buffalo Springfield

Executive order, darling. Just do it. Sheesh!

I left a reply to your comment about god giving me a heart in the value voters thread. If you read it I think you will understand my philosophy and my beliefs a bit better.
Yeah. I do. I'm nothing like that.

Did you watch my movie? Starring (the comments of) Annanleigh, Alerta_Alerta, Moi, Andy K, luwslips, RickinSF, savannah43, and some others.

I deleted a series I made, and it was in there.

just got done watching it now.
Ego is hard to do.
far left loon >.<
attached to most stuff myself, the few things I am attached to have sentimental value.
PS I'm not surprised the Palin movie was funnier. Those were largely her own words, the dipstick.
The other was made with erudite comments of C&L posters. ;)
Oh, and my sister used to use should of, and I corrected her. (teacher here)

I'm sure it won't be allowed to expire. Sadly.
