It's a tragic statement on American politics and politicians. As per Colin Powell (20 years ago): The gay and lesbian women in the military have been wonderful and there is nothing against them. **There's so much prejudice against them it would be disruptive.**
Is that how you politicians decide shit?. Cave to the hateful knuckledraggers to keep the mob quiet. In the mix, just toss out equal rights for 10% (+/-) of the population. And keep the law in place for 20 years, until a judge says it is unconstitutional-- as if they didn't know. Nice. I find it funny that SOME people in the USA like to deride Canada (examples: Fux entertainment, Ann-fucking-Coulter, Republicans, the right-wing, etc.). Yet, we have gay marriage and gay rights (and a lot of other things I need not mention here), and where is the news of Canadian catastrophe. No thunderbolts have struck. The earth hasn't opened to swallow anyone. Everything continues as normal, without any notice, and some people are happier and married.

I agree with Fry that one should not go overboard and become a "grammar nazi" about poor language. But while he may have an argument against "correct language", there's no argument against apropriate language.
Who would want to hire someone who can't speak properly? How much respect will someone lose by speaking poorly and being unable to write properly. The choice of words doesn't just express thoughts, the words display the speaker's education and self-respect, or lack thereof.
I've got a problem with msnbc's new "lean forward" motto. The "forward" meme was started by none other than president Obama, one reason I don't support him wholeheartedly. I cringe whenever I hear this meme in media or Obama himself because it means trying to excuse America's war crimes under gw bush, and to be honest under obama himself as he continues the damn wars.
As reference when questioned about holding gw bush accountable for war crimes, here is the forward meme as originated by Obama and much copied by a center/right Village.
Let's move forward with justice for past evil, if not America "moves forward" with tainted souls.
