Appearing on Morning Joe, Lawrence Eagleburger was going full force at rolling out the old GOP talking point that Barack Obama doesn't have the foreign policy experience to be Commander in Chief. Lawrence O'Donnell quickly fired back asking about the foreign policy experiences of governors Reagan and Bush. Eagleburger tried to avoid the question by saying "what's your point?", but O'Donnell pressed until Eagleburger changed his talking point to saying he "didn't agree" with the foreign policy of their opponents.

Seems like it cuts out at about 10 seconds, where Eagleburger is about to reply.

And:
Ahem...first!

:)

I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.

Thanks for the link, Bryan.

I've posted Karencature conversations like that.

Why won't you vote for Obama?

Because he's inexperienced, and that's that.

But you supported Reagan and Bush who were both inexperienced.

Yes, because overall they were better than their opponents, and experience isn't the only thing you go by.

But you just said that for Obama it is is only thing you go by.

Yes.

But not for Republicans?

What's your point?

Proof that anyone who is voting for McCain simply can't think. They just lack the cognitive capacity to make this decision.

Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

Tom Servo's picture

Thanks for the working link- jesus, the right wing produces some stone ugly people- this guy kept picking at his nose, it was disgusting....And his double standards in regards to giving Reagan and Bush a pass for having minimal foreign policy experience when they ran, but slamming obama is a fine example of the right wing hipocracy..

LeftandLeft's picture

Eagleburger was not only lying, stupid and incoherent, he was also very inebriated.

The sound on this clip is borked.

Pericles's picture

I'm glad to see the word BORKED is still being used appropriately, and in honor of Joe Biden. But the conversation was fairly predictable.

EagleSandwich: "You have to support the candidate with the most foreign policy experience, and Obama has less than McCain."

O'Donnell: "Then why did you support Reagan and Bush Jr., when Reagan had less foreign policy experience than Carter, and Bush Jr. had less than Gore?"

EagleSandwich: "That was different." *cough* *hack* *grumble*

O'Donnell: "How is it different?"

EagleSandwich: "What's your point?"

O'Donnell: "What's yours?"

EagleSandwich: "Where am I, and who the hell ARE all you people? Am I supposed to be signing books?"

"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."

Anonymous's picture

Going on the Sunday morning talk shows to advocate bombing everybody who displeases him isn't exactly foreign policy experience. Gov. Richardson was the only candidate in the 2008 race who actually had foreign policy experience.

Abbybwood's picture

If he is so damned experienced, why the heck isn't he telling Obama to GET THE HELL OUT OF AFGHANISTAN??!!

Rachel Maddow just showed a clip of a reporter embedded with some troops there. There were so many bullets flying around in an ambush that I thought I felt one fly over my head!

Ask the Russians! Any, I repeat, ANY military offensive into Afghanistan is a fool's errand. We should simply put about a BILLION dollar bounty on Osama bin Laden's head and then get the F outta there. (Not that I believe he was responsible for 9/11 anyhow).

It really perplexes me to hear Obama say he wants to get out of Iraq and move our troops into Afghanistan (and possibly Pakistan as well)!!

God, how I do wish Obama/Biden would take a page out of Ron Paul's playbook and just bring all the troops home and let the Taliban grow their poppies and keep their women in burka'd bondage. Not all the blood of America will EVER change the Taliban "war lords", any more than a bunch of Taliban war lords in the U.S. would ever stop all our right-wing wacko fundies from thinking and behaving as they do.

Check me out here if I'm wrong please. Thank you.

I have frequently asked this question of people who say Obama has no foreign policy experience. Of course, the same can be said of McCain and Caribou Barbie as well.

Oh, I forgot. McCain's POW years as a jailhouse snitch makes him experienced.

Lizzy Bennet's picture

Eagleburger. Back-peddling at its worst.

Side note: I am getting quite sick of these liars getting airtime and a pulpit. Also, I cannot wait for this campaign season to be over. It's been so ugly that once the season is over I'm going to take a week or so off from anything political just to cleanse my soul and mind from all the lies and hate that I've witnessed.

Over and over was "What's your point?"

Instead of whining about waste of time, head over to MSNBC Video, select Morning Joe and watch the entire clip.

If it wasn't mundane and simplistic, the GOP wouldn't have anything to say at all.

Wears a polyester suit from his Reagan days and a tie just as outdated. They know this old fucker down at the bar as "Larry". I bet he pisses himself at least 3 times a week.

I think they brought Eagleburger on to make McCain look boyish. Expect to see more of him, unless they manage to dig up Reagan - and now that the Republicans have disgraced themselves in every public way imaginable, I'm not so sure he'd stick to straight party lines.

Uncle Joe Mccarthy's picture

eagleburger is now a befuddled old fool

who cares what his opinion is

Kimberly's picture

Anyone hear how he got nasty and befuddled and called Obama "Governor" Obama? He doesn't even know what he's talking about. Pure partisan hack, plain and simple. Abe Simpson has friends, we get it. Now let's put the friggin' old coots out to pasture once and for all before they start some stupid war.

"The example obviously is John F Kennedy and uh, what's his name, not Breznev"

Seriously? How do you get to be Secretary of State shortly after the fall of the USSR and not know who led the Soviet Union during the tensest time during the Cold War. Countless high school students have more foreign policy expertise than this "expert".

Bauer's picture

"Eagleburger".

What kind of name is "Eagleburger"?

Who would enjoy eating eagle burgers so much, they'd take it on as their family moniker?!

You must really HATE AMERICA, to eat eagle burgers.

mudshark's picture

Eagleberger, Pfotenhauer, Bachman. Them thar names don't sound American too me!
Damned elitists. They look so exotic. They must be socialists or commies.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

Anonymous's picture

...it took O'Donnell about three seconds to take Eagleburger's arguments apart like a cheap suit.

Pericles's picture

That's because it was clinging to him like a two dollar watch.

Yellowbird's picture

I hope I can find it at Youtube.

Thomas Stone's picture

The mpeg cuts out soon into the clip. Found and watched it on Youtube.

Where do they dig up these old goats? Eagleburger sites the Cuban missle crisis but can't remember Khrushchev's name. Then when questioned on comparing Obama's foreign policy experience to governor Reagan & Bush when they ran for president, Eagleburger gets flustered and starts calling Obama "Governor Obama."

Can you say senile? Alzheimer's?

Lawrence O'Donnell is kinda hot.

oldtree's picture

how is radovan there larry? How about slobodan? This dirty piece of human garbage played serbia's side during the 20th century for great profit. He is a spy and a traitor to our country.
Funny how so many of this trash's companions are in the administration?

Stentor's picture

I'm surprised no one remembers Lawrence of Serbia. That's what we called him when Poppy was in office.

Jay Crew's picture

Nice, but O'Donnell also should have asked him if he was comfortable with the real possibility of having a President Palin if McCain wins. And if he thinks that the proximity of Russia to Alaska gives her foreign policy experience.

Limp-Dick Blimpaugh's picture

Hilarious how damn stupid and hypocritical all these old Reslug fucks are!

Anonymous's picture

O'Donnell at least attempted to challenge Eagleburger's logic. This morning on FOX and Friends, "Brain" Kilmeade was in complete agreement with Eagleburger and offered nothing in the way of a challenging interview. That should be no surprise though as Kilmeade, the other FandF hosts and FOX News in general are in the tank for McCain.

kasinca's picture

According to the constitution the requirement to be President are as follows:

1. Be a natural born citizen
2. Be at least thirty five years of age
3. To have lived inside the United States fourteen years.

It says nothing about being a POW or a Senator.
