or heart wrenching? I'll say one thing. Obama must be one power hungry guy. Who in hell would want to inherit this mess? There is no way that he isn't going to be blamed for what is about to happen. No way. It is going to be beyond catastrophic economically, and there is nothing he can do about it, even if he wanted to. I do not envy the man. He'll be lucky to survive the first term, much less have a second.

I agree that one would have to be a little strange to seek the highest office if you knew what's coming but the process starts so early you never really know what you're gonna get as President. I don't see any bowls of cherries lying around.
Damn, I'm tired of you and other pessimists talking him down. He has said that it's going to be a long hard struggle to get things going again and he's going to need all of us to get the job done. I don't expect miracles and neither should you.
FDR didn't have any cake-walk either. Obama will also have to work against the barking dogs in the "librul" media, and the bigot idiot crowd (republican base), but he is smart, and I am looking forward to seeing how history unfolds!
That doesn't matter to the reichwing carnival barkers and their idiot followers. They will say it actually started the same day Obama won the Iowa primary. Reality and stupidity are mutually exclusive in the GOP brain.
"The only good thing (in a weird way) is the economic meltdwon started and progressed squarely on Bush's watch-- no denying it!"
Yes but that doesn't mean they won't deny it. Fox and their ilk in the MSM have no regard for truth. Look at the fact that Bush apologists regularly state one of his acomplishments as keep the US safe from attack since 9/11. No one ever challenges -- but what about 9/11 which happened on his watch and which he had plenty of warnings about?
"I'm sure, if they knew it was shaky (which how could they NOT????), the plan was for it to tank starting January 21, 2009."
One of the classic mistakes of people on the left is assuming that the right is some omnipotent secret cabal. If they run a crappy candidate its because they really didn't want to win. If they display utter incompetence and let New Orleans get wiped out it was really a secret plan. No one planned for a melt down let alone exactly when it would happen. They aren't really that smart or that all powerful.
Power hungry? This guy can see exactly the express train coming direct at him, and he is right there, ready to stop it. That in itself requires balls. Black balls for that matter. Is he planning to get rich in the process? I doubt it very much. But, if he does and at the same time puts America back to its glory, then he deserves it. Think for a minute. For 24 months he got up and crisscross the country to bring his message to us. 24 months, night and day. In that area alone, I tip my hat to that old dude McCain. I can hardly get up every day just to go to my office. Obama is not looking for Glory. Obama wants genuinely bring America to what it use to before this Bastard ruined it. He might died in the process, but I truly believe God is behind him. See the difference in Christianity between Obama and Bush? Bush has never been a Christian. It was really a facade that he used profiting from Clinton "blow job" and indignation of right wingers who were desperately waiting for an excuse to take over the country. Clinton was the excuse and Bush was the perfect puppet. It all fitted together. And then Obama came. Power hungry? Please. Right now his wife can see her partner will not come to bed with, like he used to because in his head, the new lover is America. Obama is obsessed with America, and I thank God for that. I go as far as to call him the Messiah, a word which nothing to do with religion as most people think. That's a Greek word. How do you spell Messiah in Greek? Christ.
So Christ means the anointed, basically the liberator. The Jews were fucking with Romans big time. They couldn’t defeat the Roman Legionnaires. So, they were expecting a leader who will set them free from the Roman, a christ, a messiah. Well the man showed up. He claimed to the messiah and then what? They killed him. The Jew were never able to defeat the Romans. The Romans moved troops from barbarian Germany to Judea and wiped out the Jews out of Jerusalem causing the "Diaspora". But the vacuum created at the German borders left without protection, brought the barbarians all the way to Rome. The Roman Empire was died. The Jews were dispersed. That was a good thing because the Jews then went into every corner of the world to teach civilization how to go about business, religion, culture, family, monotheism etc, you name etc. No, the Greeks did not invent Democracy.
What a hell this got to do with Obama? I think he has a very unpleasant task on his hands. The Jews are at it, again! They are fucking with everybody. The world has been pissed at Israel for the longest. Are we going to have another Diaspora again? They are teachers. They are not meant to be together. If they don't fight with somebody else, then, they start fighting among themselves.
I'm very intrigued why a Jew is the White House Chief of Staff.
Obama power hungry? In the next eight years we are going to see a few things that will stand up every hair on your body. Oh! And meself. I'm an Italian Jew descendent from Lacio parents. So, don't get any ideas. Like the Catholics. There are good Catholics, honest to God good people. And then, there are the Belfast Catholic , or the American Catholic Bill Donahue. Not all Jews approve Israel policies which created Bin Laden, who caused to hurt America…and are creating thousand of Bin Laden every day. Can anybody see the connection? No, Obama is not power hungry.

What a rediculous suggestion! And every journalist and pundit is following this same stupid logic track!
The SURGE has only succeeded in CONDEMMING 130,000 American troops to this idiotic mission for another unspecified period of time! That's not success... that's idiocy. All the SURGE continues to do is put living and breathing American service men and women ON THE STREET CORNERS between the Shia and Sunni. I HOPE new troops going into Afghanistan are going to have a better-defined mission that the Occupation/Stalemate that Bush and Betray-Us created in Iraq.

It's always this time of the year my optimism returns and perhaps too my blissful ignorant side. I try to think "This year will be different, we can do it this year" Usually I am wrong, but I really do think 2009 will be a changing year for the America that has disappointed the world in the last 8 years.

As the Middle East explodes, the economy tanks, Tennesee drowns in waste, we bid a not so fond, get the fuck out of town, to our twisted little shrub. Sure Obama has his plate overly full, but I think he's just the person for it. Maybe the only person who could handle it. We'll know soon enough. It's just so damn nice to feel good about the prospects (in spite of the circumstances). I hope all had a merry Christmas or whatever floats your boat and I wish you all the best for the coming year!
I have point to make to people who blame Bush totally for the economic meltdown we are currently experiencing. If you look back and be honest, its the result of years of excess and bad policies spanning several presidents. Not to mention people buying houses they cant afford. I realize many blame the Lenders for predatory lending, but you cant absolve some personal responsibility here. Theres also the point that markets move up and down, and theres very little anyone can do about it. I am not absolving Bush of total responsibility, he certainly shares some of it. I just dont think we can blame the entire thing on him.
Before you shred me, I dislike the guy just as much as the rest of you do. The Iraq war is reason enough to hate him.
Blaming Bush is fair. Even if it wasn't totally his fault, his attitude is what got us here. And it's not just the economy. By pulling back the watchdogs of the environment, product safety, food and drugs, the SEC, etc., etc., by ignoring the terrorist warnings, ignoring New Orleans, ignoring the Middle East..... I will feel quite comfortable blaming him more than less.
I blame Bush for everything, even if I stub my toe. I just feel certain I can find a way to link it to him, if I set my mind to it. It really isn't that hard. People want to believe me, too.
Don't blame the puppet -- blame those holding his strings.
The same groups of people have been setting U.S. policy for the past 27 years. Reaganomics, as conceived by Milt Friedman, and implemented by Alan Greenspan is the reason the economy is in the tank.
Reagan/Bush canceled Carter's progressive energy programs, and kept the U.S. dependent on Big Oil
The Cheney/Wolfowitz doctrine, which led to wars on multiple fronts, originated under Reagan/Bush.
Are you searching for reason to kiss bushes ass, He fucked up the world not the houssing market. Those boys got their money back, remember the suspension of the campaign mccain got his boys the money they deserve. he suspennded his campaigng to get those boys their money
It's pretty tiring how some people seem to feel that everything in the world was perfect until George came in and ruined everything. Bush is just the latest in a line of presidents who've been deregulating everything in sight. Don't forget as well, all the union busting that's been going on since Reagan killed the air traffic controllers union.
If seems to me that if you take off every regulation from anything, that things will eventually go to hell. Reagan started in with the deregulations and every president since nibbled away just a bit more until we end up with a total financial meltdown.
In the late 1970's interest laws were loosened up in several states. The credit card companies jumped on that and helped start the credit disaster that we're seeing today. Before the loosening of regulations, credit cards were not very easy to get and the interest rate was pegged quite low. With deregulation, credit card companies could charge pretty well whatever they wanted and get away with it. Now we have people with a half dozen or more credit cards, getting deeper and deeper into debt. It's so easy to get a credit card today that many times people will jokingly send in an application for their dog or their toddlers and then get a credit card in the mail. For some, the fact that they have a credit card means "free money". Shop till you drop and worry about the bill in the future. I was a cashier for awhile and would see people with a wallet full of cards trying to remember which ones were ok to use and which were maxed out. The credit card companies love it when you max out. They call the people who pay off their balance every month "deadbeats". That shows where their thinking is.
In the past a credit card was something that was usually used just for emergencies and then payed off as soon as possible.
It's just one small part of the disaster that the economy is in. http://www.crosswalk.com/finances/11550138/
The 2005 legalized loan sharking rules that Bush and the GOP congress gave the banks, is one of the main reasons many people have lost their disposable income.
was so envisioned that Bush and his master could make trillions, not millions of dollars of profits on this investmment as Condoleza Rice calls it. So stop bullshitting me. Clinton gave him a Goverment with the Balance sheet in black. See what we got. And what happened in his last six months?
What a fucking coincidence? NO! It was the final clean up. Ask the banks to account for TARP money. Their response? We don't have to.
So for God's sake stop making fucking excuses for that fucking loser.
The surge consisted of the Iraqis laying down their arms for money. The media not reporting violence and w Drinking again. If the surge was such a sucess why didnt we do it sooner
The situation in Iraq is getting worse again, but of course the MSM doesn't want to contradict their own "the surge worked" meme so expect a whole lot of silence about the bombings, the shootings and the mounting death toll.
The KUMBAYA feeling dosen't extend to ARABS or Palestinians , they are the unfortunate victims of U.S. foreign policy , that will never change and by attending AIPAC convention , giving them a " position paper " and giving direct assurance , that the victimization of Palestinians by IsRael , will continue .
No pragamtic solution will ever happen , when israel gets the green light to bomb civilans , kill over 200 , cut off electricty , cut off food and medicne , steal land for settlements , roads , highways and walls and Obama is no better than the cowardly Israeli soldier that denies pregnant Palestinian women to pass through a check point , causing human suffering .
government of Mike Harris did the same thing in Ontario when they were in power. What happened? Let's just say it was a major f*ckup. Private companies that took over former state owned roads and utilities, have done nothing but grab massive profits at the taxpayer's expense while giving back nothing in return.
... and share a house with two other progressive Dems. That's 3 votes Jeb's NOT getting! And we'll convince as many others we can that this or ANY Bush is not a choice to make.
Thank you for posting this article, Tequila. Any little bit someone can bring of awareness to this issue, helps. I am horrified by what survivors of human trafficking have been through...
That is the day when Obama takes office. And some of you are already disappointed with the man. Maybe that's the reason why Bush got "reelected twice". The flakiness of the American public is pretty much well known.
Something Dem supporters, and Obama supporters on here, don't seem to understand, is NOT disappointment. He's a politician, not the global saviour. Sure he was the best available, but this "Obama thinks this..." "Obama thinks that..." mentality is wrong. No matter what any politician says to get elected, you need to keep up pressure, or the corporate lobby will have their agenda implemented quicker than GW chokes on a pretzel. Listening to people say over and over again "but he isn't even in office yet", is a ccp out. He and his staff are the ones jumping all over the media and internet, saying exactly what they'll do. Nobody is jumping to conclusions, but when you openly state your goal is to surge into Afghanistan and kill people, well, then that is what you are going to do. He has surrounded himself with his new staff of same old, same old political hacks. That signals exactly what he is going to do. Even the staff at C&L are questioning his actions/speeches/selections. That isn't disappointment. That is "WTF?". I truly hope he is very successful. But most people are sick and tired of politicians lying to get elected, then doing whatever they feel like until it's time for re-election, like they have some kind of entitlement and superiority.
Here's hoping 2009 doesn't turn out as crappy and disappointing as 2008, and that everyone who has questioned Obama is proven 100% wrong.
"A Bakersfield family says they were discriminated against by a UPS driver...
...Anant Singh says his father is a member of the Sikh religion and wears a turban. When his father signed for a UPS package last week, the driver asked for his signature as usual, the younger Singh said........"
Isn't it just a wonderful thing for so many of us on the tubes to be so easily able to instantly witness injustices like even this particular one?
Normally, something like this would have been buried in the back pages of even Bakersfield newspapers and no one would've heard a thing about it ever again.
OMG, I'm going to have to check out this video when I get a chance. I live in Kern County, and I'm disgusted but not shocked by the stupidity. Sikhs and Muslims were victimized in this county right after 9/11 as well...
But when I read this: "Since he’s not about to rescind the invitation, what happens next?", something came to mind.
West Front of U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C, Inauguration Day: Thousands on the grounds of the Capitol with possibly millions gathered on the National Mall watching large TV screens. The invocation is announced and Warren rises to approach the podium. Then it starts. A low rumbling that builds and builds, cascading down the grassy plain of the Mall. "Boo!" "Boo!" Growing louder and rising in volume. "BOO!" "BOO!" Warren cannot speak over the din and must stand there waiting for it to lapse. On national televison. Just standing there.
(Sorry. My imagination has a flair for the melodramatic.)
Whatever comes, I think of my friend who said in all seriousness, that if McCain/Palin had been elected, she would have checked into a residential facility. It goes that deep!

I got a Cardigan sweater for Christmas. It was bad enough when I joined AARP, haven’t had a real spontaneous erection in months, couldn’t name one of the top five songs of the year, ran for five months than lost the conditioning because I threw out my back, am now making less money per hour that I did right out of high school, have a twenty one year old with two years work experience as a supervisor, have not been able to save enough money over the last four years to cover expenses for five months, and can’t find a single 7 Bone roast that doesn’t look like it was carved from road kill; but getting an old man’s sweater is the last straw. I am not going to take this aging sh*t anymore. If I have one more old man experience in the next three months I am going to go bat sh*t crazy.
It’s like what William Powel said in “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid”,
“Fifty is the youth of old age.”
Oh Great It, that’s a really old movie too!
Thank you for the comment. The fact is I posted as a bit of a joke. The truth is that for the things that matter to me, things are going well. I have a great public library that is flexible and varied, with a great staff. My health is good. I have work that covers my expenses, (“sufficient unto the day…”). The most evil parasitic pile of human waste that has sat in the Oval office for eight years is going away.
But I am concerned when my supermarket tries to sell Round Steak as though it is in fact a steak. I take the Hebrew dietary laws as laws in fact when it comes to round; anything that close to an asshole just isn’t Kosher.

Before you shred me, I dislike the guy just as much as the rest of you do. The Iraq war is reason enough to hate him.
Get off the pity party. Don't blame the victim.
People want to believe me, too.
..mostly to my own, long suffering family.
If the devil indeed exists and walks the earth, then you won't find GWB and his neocon sychophants following too very far behind.
Bush is evil incarnate here on earth. Him and V.P. Satan, are responsible for everything that is terrible on this planet.
Those boys got their money back, remember the suspension of the campaign mccain got his boys the money they deserve. he suspennded his campaigng to get those boys their money
come on we are on to your pandering remarks take it to a righty blkog

But you keep hitting that jump shot homey ...
Yeah. So much for the change we could believe in. I guess America really is screwed.
States are selling land for income.
government of Mike Harris did the same thing in Ontario when they were in power. What happened? Let's just say it was a major f*ckup. Private companies that took over former state owned roads and utilities, have done nothing but grab massive profits at the taxpayer's expense while giving back nothing in return.
He might be running for Senate after all...
Thanks to elecotral-vote.com for the link.
... and share a house with two other progressive Dems. That's 3 votes Jeb's NOT getting! And we'll convince as many others we can that this or ANY Bush is not a choice to make.
here, except maybe at the strip clubs... Good riddance!
Story.
And it is rather depressing.
I think they're just worried Obie will flip-flop like Clinton. But I'll look at the big picture before I nit-pick.
"A Bakersfield family says they were discriminated against by a UPS driver...
...Anant Singh says his father is a member of the Sikh religion and wears a turban. When his father signed for a UPS package last week, the driver asked for his signature as usual, the younger Singh said........"
To see the video click on the link: Patriotic American Driver Targets "Muslim" Sikh

Sending it along to every xtian I know ;-)
Obama and Rich Warren, as usual Frank Rich is spot on http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/28/opinion/28r...

Been riding the bus here a lot lately. Was surprised to see at first, but grown accustomed to them. Have yet to hear discussion, positive or negative, with any fellow bus riders, however.
That's gonna turn the wingnuts upside down. I can hear it already.
Miami, home of homegrown terrrrrists.
Give it time, Shammity will be spewing it soon.
so shitty, "terrorists" couldn't afford anything more than a couple of Saturday Night Specials or a box of road flares anyway...
is boxcutters, is the official line, isn't it? And people will believe it. "Oh man, it was so scary. We were held up by terrists with extra sharp pencils!"
Sorry to hear about your predicament, bobb, but that was a funny post. Especially the "old man sweater". :)
