As a liberal, it pains me to say this, but we are still a center-right nation. Look at the losses for gay rights and all the extremely close elections. I mean, if it took screwing up every element of our nation from foriegn policies to economic policies double on top of an inept campaign with a moron runningmate for America to veer left a bit, than I think we're all deluding ourselves that the nation is suddenly and magically progressive now.
The Mormons spent millions of dollars on ads to defeat gay rights. Don't be discouraged. We are not a right wing nation.
Change doesn't happen overnight. In 2 years, more of the repuklicans will be gone. Besides, prop 8 is unconstitutional and will not survive under the equal protection clause of California or the U.S. constitutions.
