Now take it a step further and reconsider the smack you talk about "mental illness" all the time, throwing it around as an insult. There are good people living with mental illness, getting treatment, who agree with you on a lot of things. They don't deserve to be "collateral damage", getting stigmatized when you joke about mental illness.
It's just a slightly different kind of xenophobia, fearing or hating people who don't share your level of mental health. Please be consistent and see that if you don't like Dr. Laura calling people the N-word, it's not a huge step to think about the similar insults and discrimination aimed at people with mental illness, and stop doing that too. Be consistent.

Let's pretend you were qualified to assess whether a person is delusional or mentally ill, based on five minutes of video footage that you saw on the internet. Let's pretend that it would be ethical for anyone to broadcast someone else's diagnosis of mental illness in a public forum, even if it's a qualified person making the diagnosis. Setting aside those two important points, wouldn't you want to help the mentally ill person? Do you think that broadcasting your unsolicited diagnosis in public would be helpful? Do people with mental illness decide to change their ways and seek help because they get called mentally ill?
No. So even if you or John Amato or blue gal were sincerely concerned about all these people to whom you offer your unsolicited amateur armchair psychiatric diagnoses, it should be pretty obvious to all of you that insults and public broadcast of that diagnosis are helping no one.
What I don't think you realize (or care about?) is that there are other people with mental illnesses who may read John's posts or blue gal's juvenile photoshops, or your comments, and they will take it to heart. They may be other liberals, decent people, who are getting treatment for mental illness, and now they have to feel like shit because you and others reinforce the stigma against mental illness by using it as an insult. Or there could be decent people who need to get treatment for mental illness, and your comments remind them that they will be stigmatized and discriminated against if they talk about it or maybe if they get treatment. Maybe their boss or co-worker will see them on their way to a hospital or a psychiatrist's office. Maybe they decide that it's not worth getting treated that crappy, so they avoid treatment.
Please reconsider whether you want to contribute to that kind of atmosphere, with your flippant jokes and insults.
