If the Speaker of the House, Madam Pelosi can justify ordering an investigation into Florida Rep. Tim Mahoney for having secretly paid his former alleged mistress and campaign staffer to prevent a sexual harassment lawsuit from going forward, then how can she justify NOT ordering an investigation into George W. Bush and the multitude of obvious crimes exposed through the laborious time and effort that Congressman John Conyers has spent penning them?
LOYALTY PERHAPS?
Most certainly NOT priorities!
... NO?
Stevens is finally gonna lie, er, testify, in court.
McCain's only interested in helping you out for six months. The poor are going to get screwed the most by the Greater Depression. The Army decides to train recruits in more polite approaches to occupation and war crimes. Palin is more concerned with voter fraud than her own fraud. Has Hillary thrown in the towel on a future run? The Bush Administration is the pot calling Mugabe corrupt and partisan. The IRS is finally going to give over 250,000 married people their stimulus checks. The deficit went up to $450 billion. Obama is the first Dem(and politician?) to embrace video game players, rather than alienate them.
Yeah, that's all they can talk about, but nothing about election fraud which has screwed us for the last few elections and we will feel the pain for years to come.
Ted must have thought he was pretty smart. He did actually pay for the “renovations” on his house. That's his defense. The problem now is just how much did he pay, and what were those renovations. You can’t run into the local car dealership, drop a 100 bill and drive away with a pristine new BMW without it looking suspicious. Ted Steven’s renovations look suspicious like that. But Ted at least tried to make it look hunky-dory.
I don’t know if the Palins are that smart.
Sarah, by all accounts but her own, was very close to Stevens. She worked on his campaigns, he on hers, and they shared lobbyists and managers. I guess Alaska is just tight that way. But I can almost hear the Palins talking over moose on the dinner table about how Ted got his house. “Let’s go fer it Todd!”
CNN reports on Sarah Palin's connection to, and her husband, Todd Palin's membership in an Anti-American fringe group, the Alaska Independence Party (AIP) which was founded by a domestic terrorist.
The McCain campaign was NOT happy about a MSM outlet reporting on this!
I am very glad that the story of Palin's involvement with the AIP is out there. May it remind people that this woman is a hypocrite every time she opens her rotten mouth about Mr. Obama. And when this woman says she's a patriot and chides other people for their dissent, I hope that her "attachment" with this group is brought to mind.
And when someone calls Mr. Obama a "terrorist", I hope others remember that Sarah slept and bore children with a known secessionist. And there's proof of it, unlike the sham they try to push on the public about the Democratic nominee.
As the Alaskans tell it, when Sarah is back, she will have hell to pay. I just hope it happens in spades.
By one of Murdoch's own sub-divisions, no less! Anyone think we won't get some sort of conflict-of-interest watered-down crap like that "Charlie Wilson Funding Osama Wasn't That Bad" movie?
For being owned by Rupert Murdoch and being called "Fox", Fox Searchlight/2000/etc. has a great reputation for having movies that completely represent anti-right viewpoints. It's like having the smart person in the Simpsons rally against Fox on the network, or how Family Guy constantly bashes its own paycheque providers. It's sort of "balance" in their minds.
Yes, just after midnight EST. There's finally peace in the middle east and gas will be free for all Americans from now on. I heard the Iranians were greeting the bombs as liberators as they fell.
Even though I detest the tone of this election and the threats to Sen. Obama, I can't help but feel a little bit giddy watching those Republican sons-of-bitches flounder around as they have the last week or so. What the country and world are seeing right now is what we've been saying for years. The Republican party is the party of Racists, Bigots, and Hate. Seem's no one took us seriously until they saw it first hand.
It's hard to fool people when it's put on display for the world to see.
Even an idiot like myself can stay current and properly informed thanks mainly to liberal blogs like this one and the comment sections. I for one am very grateful for that.
Imagine if the Republicans ran against a Democratic Party, a Socialist Party and a Green Party, as well as the "Texas Party" that only represented Texas. Oh, and votes were not proportional to the amount of people who voted, but who won their ridings in every area (not province, riding. There is sometimes several ridings in one province, like Quebec, which has 75).
So its the Republican Right vs. the Democratic Central/Left, only the Democratic Central/Left is broken into several parties.
Yeah, you think its hard for the Democratics to win already? Think of your system looking like that.
It's just not a good time for an election to be called. When Harper dissolved Parliment and called an election, most Canadians thought "What the hell are you doing? Get back to work!"
Now that the election is over Canadians have resoundingly stated "What the hell was that about? GET BACK TO WORK!!!"
Fortunately as a nation, Canada basically functions on auto-pilot 90% of the time. Sometimes being boring has it's advantages.
Maybe that's part of the reason the voter turnout was the worst ever at 58%. I hate to say it, but you Yanks have a better system in this regard. Let's say I'm in Ron Paul or Roscoe Barlett's district, two GOP guys I'm dyed in the wool for as individuals - I don't like their party. Here in Canada, I'd not only be casting a vote for them, but I'd be voting McCain/Palin along with it!
The Bloc in Quebec got 10% of the popular vote and got nearly 50 seats. The Greens - who I did some campaigning for - got 6.6% of the vote nationally, and ZERO seats. In 1993 the Conservatives got 19% of the vote nationally...and TWO SEATS in parliament!!! It's ridiculous!!!
A condom also allows for protection from disease and less unwanted children while you screw and/or are screwed, whatever your choice.
Or you could choose not to do either.
Good luck with your battle with your biology.
I have never heard anyone argue The Emblem Of America should be replaced, because it serves a larger protection.
Or at least, it used to.
When are you going to start paying attention to the interests of your children and grandchildren instead of the interests of Big Money?
Before it is too late?
Yes, the hard working deserve their share and everyone should be hard working. Yes, some of us have gifts more than burdens and some of us have burdens more than gifts.
But, no one is immune from our common burden which is to leave a future for those that come after us.
We are going to be at 7 billion people soon. The last time our planet was without oil, there were 1 billion. Oil has dropped in price recently, yes, but the truth is we have taken close to half of it out the ground within 140 years of its discovery of its usefulness to us. And that was the easy half. It won't be long before we can't afford to fill our cars, whether it be in 50 years, or 25.
Or 10. Or 5.
Or next year. Or maybe you are one of the unfortunate ones who can't even afford it now.
How will our grandchildren live without oil? What can we do to prepare them?
You may or may not believe global warming is real, but surely you recognize that man has created substances, chemical compounds, that are dangerous to us. It's the reason why the collection of chemical plants between New Orleans and Baton Rouge is called Cancer Alley, the second highest incidence of cancer among any comparable size land in the world.
And Asthma has become a growing problem as a result
How can we leave a planet for our grandchildren to live on and protect them from physical abnormalities and other environmental disasters, but also use human ingenuity to continue making the products that make our lives easier, that make it possible for almost 7 billion of us to co-exist?
These are the discussions we should be having.
You see, I can understand Barry Goldwater, but I can not understand the modern Republican.
I can understand when an intellectual conservative says, "The only way for us to get past race, is to not acknowledge it. "
I can understand when an intellectual conservative says, "The larger a government is, the less we are free."
And then you intellectual conservatives had to go join the No Condoms Because Jesus Is Coming Back Within Our Lifetimes crowd.
And the Police State Is The Only Way To Protect Us crowd.
I'm sorry guys, but we are here, and we are now. We can pray, and we can also try to solve the problems in front of us as if there is no Knight In Shining Armor, whether in the sky, or in the White House.
Let's unite in common interest which is The United States Of America, our community.
p.s. Yes, I get the humor. Didn't laugh, but that doesn't mean I don't whenever I can. Just made me want to engage you. Keep your replies civil and inform me and I will reciprocate.
So this is what the phony charges against acorn are about. The Republicans have sued to invalidate 660,000 new voter registrations in Ohio. The state has until Friday to "verify" all of the new registrations against other records -- like motor vehicle registrations and Social Security records.
This is patently absurd. It took me three weeks of 15 hour days to verify just the delegates to our Legislative district here in Washington. We had a hotly contested primary and it was unclear if one of the campaigns was going to challenge the other's delegates (based on where they live, etc.) It was under 2,000 people but contacting them was a nightmare. People don't update their registrations, people get married and change their names, and people have bad handwriting.
Validating records against DMV records is a waste of time (does everybody own a car in their own name?) and I believe that using social security records is illegal.
The Republicans just want to create a huge mess so that they can slow down the election and then challenge it if it is close.
The consequences for the country could be catastrophic. Country first, my ass.

As a guy I know once said, "The one with the biggest tits."
Is it my imagination or have Palin's jumped a cup size in the last week? Maybe it's the tight tops, but I suspect Victoria's Secret is providing more than support. Distraction, distraction, distraction.
...Palin is the real life equivalent of the old Carol Burnett secretary character, Mrs. Wiggins-- whom I did have the hots for at the time (circa '73?). I was only 13, so sue me.
Palin told Rush Limbaugh that she has nothing to lose in attacking Obama....
I have to disagree. She has lost her soul, she has lost the respect of the people in Alaska (her constituents), and I suspect that she will ultimately lose this election and her re-election as Governor as well.
kinda pushed her into the coming out -- if you excuse the expression --- against gays... but who really knows what her real thoughts on the issue are? In some ways, her public stance allowed the whole subject to be brought out into the open.
But I suspect you are right about Palin... once a person in the public view has established a perception in the public's eyes, as she has done for herself, it is not easily replaced.
Hopefully we won't have to endure her again in 2012.
I don't think that one ever had a soul. As a woman, I've seen her type before. She's the kind that will befriend you to get what she wants. Once you've served her purpose she'll stab you in the back. Her rise to the top is littered with the bodies of those that stood in her way. Sociopaths don't have souls.
How is it that THE most important news story of the day not being covered anywhere? Don't you all realize it's october 15th? That means that a mile-wide UFO did NOT appear in Alabama on october 14th as was predicted by Blossom Goodchilde!
That's front page news people! A psychic made a prediction that didn't come true! Scandalous!!
Not a psychic, but a native american mystic channeling the cosmic spirit of light. I mean....geez!
And you don't know it didn't appear. After all, it was the Alabama in the SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE. I spent the day straining my neck looking up, and I only saw 1 black helicopter and 3 of my own mystic visions. The 2nd vision told me the 1st and 3rd visions weren't true, but never pay attention to the middle visions anyway. I'm going to look all day tomorrow too. My mystic calendar may be off.
'Tis late, I must retire for the evening. Too bad about the Harper victory but, as Lyon noted above, nothing much will change and at least the election is over for canucks.
We can go back to being boring on the outside, sizzling on the inside!
Sammy has a Norsk Skogskatt cousin in Norway named Nøste (ball of fluff), with much the same coloring. Nøste's a complete joy, as I'm sure Sammy is for you.
Such marvelous huge beasts they are, Andhakari. Distant Norwegian cousins of the exquisite Maine Coon cats, they are treasured for their strength of body and gentleness of soul.
No really. My one year-old Captain Bebe and your Sammy could be related. She is orange and white, and her orange pattern makes all the sense in the world somehow. Her sister, The Marbles, is a mackerel tabby and she's lovely. I adopted them both from my local animal shelter on 9/11, because that day needed hope. My life is currently complete.
I lost three cats to the Melamine in cat food, a white male and a male and female orange tabby. They were siblings and Hemingway Cats. They had six toes on each paw. After my ex-wife passed away last year I took in her two cats and they are normal. http://cats.about.com/od/felinegenetics/a/pol...
Sammy reminds me of my Juliet. When I first saw her at the shelter, my reaction was, "My goodness! You have the biggest ears of any kitty I've ever seen." I hope Sammy is as as sweet as Juliet.

Neo-cons like Frum advise government leaders and they fail. Later they are paid by the networks to be interviewed as experts?!
Why is Frum paid to give his opinion on the election? The only thing Frum should be interviewed on is why the policies he promoted failed.
If I am a failed teacher, or law enforcement officer, or whatever, do I get to go around and be interviewed for my opinion on teaching? Or law enforcement?
Frum tells Maddow to get Wolfowitz on her program? Why? Does Wolfowitz need the money?
Why do failures and criminals like Ollie North, Wolfowitz, etc., why are they given a platform as experts?
I guess I just don't understand the world anymore.

ExxonJohn McBush's Nuclear expansion plan would be an economic disaster - http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/10/14/8...
The 45 reactors would cost taxpayers $315 billion, because most of the funding would have to come from taxpayer-backed federal loans. They also found that expanding the nuclear industry would create less than a quarter of the 700,000 that McCain promised in the first presidential debate. And since the Nuclear Energy Institute, the industry's trade association, estimates that it takes about 10 years to bring a new nuclear power plant online, it would do little for short-term energy concerns. Nuclear power is also resource-intensive -- 45 nuclear power plants would use between 200 billion to 350 billion gallons of water per year. And, of course, there are the outstanding concerns about safety, storage, and disposal.
John McBush's plan to build 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030, and 100 over time. Their report concludes that McCain's plan would be "an economic and environmental disaster."

Time's running out for reaching a security agreement with the U.S., and an accord is unlikely before the end of this year, Iraq's Sunni Muslim vice president said Monday. The United Nations mandate that authorizes the U.S. military presence in Iraq will expire on Dec. 31 and without a so-called status of forces agreement, it's questionable whether the U.S. will have a legitimate right to maintain its troops in Iraq, Vice President Tariq al Hashimi told McClatchy.

We got a new kitten this summer off of Craig's List. Darling skinny black guy with big ears so we named him Obama. He's looking forward to tonight's debate.
I keep thinking about the adjective "Politically Correct" since seeing an intro to a Mitt Romney speech when he said "Now, I'm not going to try to be P.C. in telling you what I think." The crowd cheered.
P.C., to me, generally means to be polite or politic by avoiding stereotypes which demean groups of people. Take the "N-word" which isolates the word as an object, a word mostly used to insult. An admirable thing, I would think.
That cheer of the Romney audience seemed to be a response to a messiah, saying "free us from the ties that keep us from truly expressing ourselves. We are tired of holding back the poison we have for those "other" people, we are forced to keep bottled up because we have to be 'PC'." Most of them probably aren't PC among their friends, but want it to be something that they can use in public, without being condemned for it. They are glad to be in a group that might allow them to express what they feel about those "non-(white)Americans" who are trying to damage that America that was on television in the 50's and 60's. Their hatred is the true patriotism, and why its alright to scream "kill" in the crowd.
I heard something interesting this weekend. Maybe everyone already knows this but I heard Ken Jennings on our local NPR station this weekend rattling off a bunch of trivia during a pledge drive. One of the things he said was that the pledge of allegiance was written as a marketing gimmic by a flag manufacturer. They just wanted to boost flag sales. What a scam. Forget taking the "under God" bit back out. Let's just dump the whole stupid thing.

CIA Tactics Endorsed In Secret Memos

Obama, I can't help but feel a little bit giddy watching those Republican sons-of-bitches flounder around as they have the last week or so. What the country and world are seeing right now is what we've been saying for years. The Republican party is the party of Racists, Bigots, and Hate. Seem's no one took us seriously until they saw it first hand.
It's hard to fool people when it's put on display for the world to see.
Thank the internet and our fellow bloggers.
Just-- YEAH!!
Even an idiot like myself can stay current and properly informed thanks mainly to liberal blogs like this one and the comment sections. I for one am very grateful for that.
Is he already 14 points ahead of McCain?
Well, Conservatives won by a pretty large margin.
Never listen to a Canadian bragging to you again.
Maybe they need more time in the selection process.
We really need to get our proportional representation on.
It's ridiculous!!!
www.fairvote.ca
We desperately need electoral reform in Canada.
Consider this notion for two tenths of a second: Quebec in an electoral college system. Still seem like a good idea?
The system is fine, it's the politicians who are broken.
sez hi,,,,LOL...
was Sammy a stray kitty who adopted you? Cats are notorious for that, you know.

You are The Boss... which team would you hire?
As a guy I know once said, "The one with the biggest tits."
Is it my imagination or have Palin's jumped a cup size in the last week? Maybe it's the tight tops, but I suspect Victoria's Secret is providing more than support. Distraction, distraction, distraction.
...Palin is the real life equivalent of the old Carol Burnett secretary character, Mrs. Wiggins-- whom I did have the hots for at the time (circa '73?). I was only 13, so sue me.
Goodbye Sarah!
You too, Johnny!

Priceless!!!
Palin told Rush Limbaugh that she has nothing to lose in attacking Obama....
I have to disagree. She has lost her soul, she has lost the respect of the people in Alaska (her constituents), and I suspect that she will ultimately lose this election and her re-election as Governor as well.
Bless her Heart.
She will be tomorrow's Anita Bryant. No political office but plenty of fringe support. Maybe she can try for Fuhrer next time.
kinda pushed her into the coming out -- if you excuse the expression --- against gays... but who really knows what her real thoughts on the issue are? In some ways, her public stance allowed the whole subject to be brought out into the open.
But I suspect you are right about Palin... once a person in the public view has established a perception in the public's eyes, as she has done for herself, it is not easily replaced.
Hopefully we won't have to endure her again in 2012.
She will never run for a national office again. Her political career as far as elected office is already over.
Why didn't she?
Them's the breaks...
That may not be all that's off! :)
Full Moon tonight! hehe
Is X bending over and dropping his drawers again?
'Tis late, I must retire for the evening. Too bad about the Harper victory but, as Lyon noted above, nothing much will change and at least the election is over for canucks.

Is that a cat or some sort of spider monkey? Sammy looks like he'd do well on an experimental spaceship or undersea explorer. AND he's damn cute.

31 and without a so-called status of forces agreement, it's questionable whether the U.S. will have a legitimate right to maintain its troops in Iraq, Vice President Tariq al Hashimi told McClatchy.

so cute :)
We got a new kitten this summer off of Craig's List. Darling skinny black guy with big ears so we named him Obama. He's looking forward to tonight's debate.
I also have a cat old enough to retire.
Greetings from Cosmo and Markey in Redmond, Oregon.

I don't know what the purpose of the cat is, but man, he's ADORABLE.
Do you know how old Sammy is?
Our oldest is in his early 20's.
Take good care of him, John.
