WASILLA, Alaska - Sarah Palin plans to resign as governor of Alaska in a few weeks, KTUU-TV reported Friday.
Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, made the announcement at her home Friday morning, the station said.
Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will take over at the end of the month, KTUU reported.
This raises many questions. Palin says she thinks she can be more effective outside of government. Really? More effective than being Governor? Hell, Mark Sanford was caught with a mistress and is in the midst of a major, public meltdown and he's staying in office. We'll stay on top of this and bring you more information as it happens.

It was downright frenetic, wasn't it? She was saying her platitudes at a breakneck speed without engaging her audience at all. I've never seen her make a speech like that before.

Yes, I did, but this was an entirely different circumstance. Take a look at how involved she was with the audience at the RNC convention.

It isn't the entire tape of her speech, and during the first two minutes the crowd is cheering her, but you can get an idea of the tone. She speaks at a pretty good clip and certainly spews a lot of political platitudes. But she wants the crowd with her and does a great many things to ensure that. She didn't do that in this announcement. Instead, she's "on send" and doesn't much care if anybody's with her or not. Almost as if she wasn't happy about doing it, quite unlike her acceptance speech at the convention.
but that was an enrapt audience of 20% faithful and paid off. It was not, obviously, as well prepared a speech today, but the circumstances were also different. at the convention, she delivered an equally disjointed speech and was a shoe-in as VP-(R) nominee. this time there is much uncertainty. knowing she can't solve the problems in Alaska, she blames the socialist gubmint takeover. She is still the same P-O-S. but this time, there's no place to go and she was trying to play to her audience through the media. I wonder how many of them were looking skeptically at her as she spoke.
it's time for her to get the coulter boost and write a book, so melon-scaife can buy 15,000 of them and put her on the times best-seller list.
It was like she was talking only in order silence, or deafen her ears to, an inner voice of panic and gibbering hysteria. It also sounded like an empty recitation of points that not even she believes, but recited whilst flying off into a manic bipolar episode.

I listened to the NPR spot on her resignation. They mentioned her "rambling" then played a couple of clips. The only way "rambling" covered it is if you were to go back and listen to Steve Martin's "Rambling Man" skit.

Her speech was a rambling, disjointed, confusing mish-mash of nonsensical babble.
Her public speaking "skills" are on par with an 8th grader...and that's being generous. Even after I listened to her speech 3 times, I still had no idea what she was talking about.
Can you imagine if she were POTUS? I thought Wubya was a disaster...but next to her, he's downright eloquent.

Lobbying is hard assed mofoing work. You can have all the political connections in the world, but 'effectiveness' is the lobbyist's badge of honour (using 'honour' loosely, or in a relative manner) and really their bread and butter and the key to longevity in the field. You are only as good as the amount of legislation you get passed on your clients' behalf.
And you have to be careful, when you have multiple clients, not to fuck one at the expense of another, keep negotiations separate. She's not organised enough.

her resignation CAN'T just be to prepare for 2012. Her gubernatorial term is up next year anyway. If she simply didn't run for reelection, she'd already be freed up just in time to have a full year to fundraise and dealmake before the Iowa Caucus. Something else has to be going on. I mean, she has just a year more experience now than she did when McCain picked her to be VP, and that pick was challenged vociferously (and quietly by many Republicans) because of her lack of experience for the job. Now she'll be both experience-lite AND too flaky to commit to a full four years as governor. I can't imagine anyone advising her would think that that combination wouldn't be a significant handicap for her if she tried to run for president. Hell, it might be too much to run for Senator.
