Some stuff you can't make up!
Dear Democrats

I have three quotes from Harry S. Truman for your consideration:
"Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home-- but not for housing. They are strong for labor-- but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine-- for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it."
"The Republicans believe that the power of government should be used first of all to help the rich and the privileged in the country. With them, property, wealth, comes first. The Democrats believe that the power of government should be used to give the common man more protection and a chance to make a living. With us the people come first."
"I don't like bipartisans. Whenever a fellow tells me he's bipartisan, I know that he's going to vote against me."
You know what else Harry Truman can tell you? Don't start land wars in Asia. So, everything you really need to know about how to proceed can be learned from Truman. Here's a bonus quote:
"Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive. And don't ever apologize for anything." -Advice to Hubert Humphrey, NY Times, Sep 20, 1964
You want another one?
"Men make history, and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better."
Take this for advice or inspiration, or whatever. But take it.
Some stuff you can't make up!
Harry Truman would be horrified at the death of the "greatest democracy on earth". It is frightening to the rest of the world to see the utter depths to which the Supreme Court has consigned you. Your democracy is over, unless there are some very courageous politicians (not likely) and millions of very outraged voters. Even so, it is difficult to see what could be done.
I'm just amazed that i lived through the downfall of the USSR and the USA in one lifetime.
"I was there when the rich finally got America and her armies. and waged a war against the poor with their indoctrinated mindless drone army.
Maybe in a few thousand years we will call them 'necromungers' from that Riddick flick.

More likely the House of Representatives would impeach them, and the Senate hold the trial, but the question remains who would sit in judgment over the trial?
And then presumably the court could overrule the verdict, but since the Fed has troops, and the court does not, it could lead to a Constitutional crisis.
But they have breached the Separation of Powers in the 2000 election when the Constitution clearly gives it to the Senate to decide, and in the case the other day, the powers listed for Congress in Article I, Section 8 for setting the rules for their elections and of state electoral boards running theirs.

I'm back after a good night's sleep. David Swanson wrote a piece about impeaching these activist judges, at his journal here. I still think the amendment would pretty much strip corporations of most of their corrupting power in government and media.
Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity. Albert Einstein
the impeachment process. Seriously, if the Supreme Court can't be trusted to honor our constitution or the very essence of our republics foundation, then they need to be removed.

All fiat currency in history has always returned to it's intrinsic value of zero. "ALL OF THEM". History has proven thousands of times there is probability of zero we can print our way out of this mess, yet here we are doing it again. What did Einstein say the definition of insanity was? LOL!

that democracy is, still.
"The Left needs to organize the rest and they need to do so without the Democratic Party. "
Don't buy into this BS. What the left needs to do is take over the Democrat party. In part, the Supreme Court decision allowing unlimited corporate spending to influence elections is designed to prevent that, because the former mind control of the corporate media through the broadcast media has been compromised by the internet. Leverage the problem the Supreme Court and the Corporations are concerned with.
Go third party and be as successful as Nader. Instead, the left, in controlling Democrat party policies, needs to take a lesson from the Teabaggers initiative in controlling Republican policy, by turning out in primaries, as well as every other election. Don't sit out any election, no matter what. If there's no one to vote for, there may be someone to vote against.
The incumbents have constructed things so that the two parties will prevail. I favor "instant runoff", but I don't see any champions among the incumbents. We need to take control of the Democrat party in order to institute "instant runoff".
Nobuddy. Great comments.
... the other aspect to the Supreme Court opinion is the elimination of "Net Neutrality", currently underway.
Remembering that finding the truth depends on "an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will prevail"¹ - a marketplace where there is a "wide diversity of viewpoints from a multiplicity of sources"...", this access to a multiplicity of sources is going to be under attack, through the elimination of net neutrality.
Corporate America needs an environment where there is no multiplicity of sources. Obama didn't take "single payer" off the table, the corporate owned media did. The corporate owned government needs to take everything off the table that they're not bribed (lobbied) in supporting.
---
¹" ' It is the purpose of the First Amendment to preserve an uninhibited market-place of ideas in which truth will ultimately prevail, rather than to countenance monopolization of that market, whether it be by the Government itself or a private licensee.' Associated Press v. United States, 326 U.S. 1, 20 (1945); New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254, 270 (1964); Abrams v. United States, 250 U.S. 616, 630 (1919)"

My repug relative writes me back:
"Well I can't too excited about that supreme decision because the corps. have always been able to fund PAC's as much as they wanted. Now they can fund their causes directly.
No change."
I'd appreciate any acurate info I can toss his way to let him know the Supreme Court decision isn't "business as usual" for corporations. I'm just not savy enough to know how to address his comment.
Seems "simple" is how the republican friends and relatives I have keep things...even if it's bull shit, plain and simple.
it's legislating from the bench and the neocon right wing fascists usually hate that.
I did a quick search and came up with 5k and 15k respectively, and according to wiki, the money was only supposed to be used for the PACs administrative expenses. Which of course it wasn't.
Someone who knows more about this than me (which is most everyone), should be able to give exact details.
Pac ( phony front groups ) money directed to campaigns was /is limited , now there is no need for Pacs the corporations are free to go balls out directly as much money as they want in campaigning and support via the media and that's what costs the money , a million dollar television spot ? Hey no problem ! You remember the deal we made right ? Lobbyists and big money ( bribery ) have been out of control as it is , like Durbin said " these guys ( lobbyists ) own this place " but this phony court decision is the coup de grace .
They are making sure that citizen involvement of elections is moot.
So... What kinda of Democracy 'for the people' do you have left?

According to Fox the founding fathers are smiling over this Supreme court decision . They are probably rolling and writhing in their graves now . They could not have possibly imagined that someday the Republican party might become a party of fascists , so radical and evil as to become saboteurs and traitors who plant fascist activist judges on the Supreme court who dare to call a corporation a person and under the guise of free speech give them the right to pour unlimited money into any campaign and support any particular candidate they chose . There were people in Germany , German citizens , who were horrified as they watched Hitler and the Nazis gain popularity and support , they could only watch helplessly , right now I'm feeling just as they did .
It really sucks being an intelligent person and living in Fox nation. Watching all the unemployed rightwing morons turn on each other is really sickening.
The corporate fascists must really enjoy watching the idiot tea baggers do their evil bidding. Now that the entire middle class has been brought to it's knees, all they have to do is throw out a piece of meat, and watch the rabid packs rip each other to shreds trying to get to it.

Vote against the incumbent! No matter which party he is from. No matter how good you think the job he has done. The only way to fix government is to make not profitable for these greedy bastards to run for office. If we put new people in every time they are up for eiection after about ten years we will get our country back!
The only other thing you need to know, is no matter if they are on the democratic or the republican ticket. republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness and it is killing America.
With the shit the supreme court has done we are left with two choices.
remove every member of the house and senate and the supreme court. by the ballot box or the bullit box! But we have to clean out washington!
Time to strike, protest and raise hell with corporate America. Hitting them in the pocketbook is much more effective. Last resort is to overthrow the government if it goes against the will of the people.
Republicans are liars and simply cannot be trusted.
running against them. For years I haven't been able to vote for anyone other than Feinstein or Pelosi.
Are corporations really persons?
Do corporations think?
Do corporations grieve when a loved one dies as a result of a lack of adequate health care?
If a corporation ever committed an unspeakable crime against the American people, could IT be sent to federal prison? (Note the operative word here: "It")
Has a corporation ever given its life for its country?
Has a corporation ever been killed in an accident as the result of a design flaw in the automobile it was driving?
Has a corporation ever written a novel that inspired millions?
Has a corporation ever risked its life by climbing a ladder to save a child from a burning house?
Has a corporation ever won an Oscar? Or an Emmy? Or the Nobel Peace Prize? Or the Pulitzer Prize in Biography?
Has a corporation ever been shot and killed by someone who was using an illegal and unregistered gun?
Has a corporation ever paused to reflect upon the simple beauty of an autumn sunset or a brilliant winter moon rising on the horizon?
If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a noise if there are no corporations there to hear it?
Should corporations kiss on the first date?
Our lives - yours and mine - have more worth than any corporation. To say that the Supreme Court made a awful decision on Thursday is an understatement. Not only is it an obscene ruling - it's an insult to our humanity.

What I want to know is if the SCOTUS is part of the Christian mafia. If they are no wonder they made the ruling they did last week. Their leader had a new revelation that God was for the rich people and not the poor. With all those in power associated with this group good luck in getting anything for the working man.
http://www.deviantart.com/print/9788/ Here is the new flag of the united states of the corporation.
Been to the D.C. Mall a fair number of times starting as a kid with some great memories, so I'd really hate to have to tell any of mine, "These buildings are where the evil people plan the bad things they do to us."
places where the depraved honor the lie, kill with indifference, compromise the truth, and party along with the crowd.
I am not sure why everybody's making such a fuss over the Supreme Court's decision. All they did is make official what we already know - the government is owned by Korporate Amerika. If recent activities in the Congress and the White House didn't convince you, the Supremes just put their stamp of approval on it all.
these f*****s wear Nascar style uniforms when Congress is in session with the corporate logos of their sponsors on them so we can easily identify who they are working for.
Because Red/Blue no longer matter. Conservative/Liberal no longer matter. Everything stops here. There is no issue of greater importance. I don't care about quasi-Health Care anymore. What the talking heads have to say is so much goose crap shooting its way to the bottom.
Left - you need to be clear on the importance of what will happen if this stands.
Right - ARE YOU EFF'ING ME! seriously, do you think corporations are on your side? they don't care about abortion or religion or family values. you don't recognize that you have been used all these years? who made the morning after pill? who makes condoms? who promotes violence for profit? who poisons your land and makes you love them for it? government may not be looking out for you but who do you think is doing the robbing? And hey, guess what? Small business hates the corporate giants, you like small biz well I like small biz too. There aren't enough small biz out there and soon there will be fewer. Agribusiness is already killing the farmer.
We need to unite. We need to organize. We must fight for OUR democracy. This is not a Tea Bagger joke, its not a 9/11 conspiracy, this ain't a Jesse Venture episode. This is the real deal.
oh, and Libertarians - children, go sit in the corner while the adults try to fix this. We need rules and limits whether you like that or not. Unless you can justify Hitman as legitimate career choice then you've set limits on personal freedom. No compromise!
There's only one way to be sure -- nuke 'em from orbit ! ( or Predator drones ? )

they don't care about abortion or religion or family values."
Actually corporations do not even care about America.
They are chartered for one reason and one reason only.
TO MAKE MONEY.
So if it makes the more money to move living wage jobs out of the country and American families are torn apart or damaged by their actions, SO WHAT?
They were not created to help make America stronger or to thelp the American family, they were created to MAKE MONEY.
Haliburton move the headquarters to Dubai.
That how much they care about America or being Americans.
Ok, so I said lets be clear. This is start of what I'm talking about. Many people have posted that they don't see this as anything new except the corps have to id themselves. While its true they get much of what they want, they don't get everything they want. Here is a post I submitted elsewhere which I hope illustrates my point (and the frustration of my last post here):
"They don't care about Right/Left, lib/repug so forget that line of thought. Think like a corporation...
Copyright Laws - they own a BIG chunk of our culture now, in tens years, ha. Writers, artists, musicians, architects, etc., - if you create, they own. Want it, pony up!
Liable Laws - tough now, but try saying something as innocuous as "I don't enjoy the flavor of Coke." in a public setting. Bye, bye house.
Monopoly Laws - how about a Wal-Mart in every yard, where else you gonna shop? Mom&Pop are in line ahead of you. And Wal-Mart wants your property, ten cents on the dollar - as long as you don't bitch. Which brings me to...
Eminent Domain - what?
Public Protection Laws - huh, your kid was born with two heads and a beaver tail? Can't prove it was the corp. since they wont have to disclose product ingredients anymore. Cut your arm off with a defective saw? Dang. New Personal Responsibility Laws will ensure you suck it.
Consumer Protection Laws - credit card limit of 50, 60, 90% too much? Try complaining on YouTube -while it exists for free that is.
There will always be Debtors' Prison (run by corp.s).
Minimum Wage - Dollar an hour! I don't mean McD workers, I mean you d-bags who think minimum wage is a bad thing. See MW gives your employer and you a base of value for a given job. I know my job is harder than fast food (I've done both) therefore my job should pay better. If corp. McD pays $1 instead of $7.50, my corp. will think it's overpaying me by $6.50. My, and your, wallet lighten.
Get it now?
And this is just the start of where my imagination takes me. Corporations have huge imaginations. A whole boardroom full, a whole lawyer division full, a whole shareholder -- you think you will
benefit as a shareholder -------hahahahahahahahahaha, that's funny. Remember, when it comes to power, a corp.'s imagination knows no bounds."
See, there is SO much more corps want that have nothing to do with Right/Left/Conservative/Liberal.
P.S. Glenn Greenwald is wrong but not as wrong as Jonathan Turley, though I respect both gentlemen.
with Right/Left/Conservative/Liberal.
The nature of humans is that there will always be greedheads among us.
If you've worked in the corporate world (or anywhere else for that matter) you've seen them.
They're the people who want their paycheck.....and YOUR paycheck too!
What they get is never enough for them and they will use office politics, backstabbing, inappropriate affairs, whatever they have to do to get more money and power.
What we are seeing in politics is the same thing played out on a national, actually global scale.
The game is to return to the model of Medieval style society with the CEO's and their upper management residing away from the masses in their mansions, vacation homes and gated communities ruling over a nation of serfs and peasants.
We've gone quite a ways down that road already with living wage jobs that were dissapeared to increase corporate profits being replaced by menial servitude jobs that will not support a family.
The middle class is being broken on the wheel, so they can be transformed into a powerless peasantry.
been flipping us the bird as SCOTUS did to us this week.
Corporations have been buying everything for years. Remember when a Stadium actually had a non-corporte name? Hell, even Jimmy Freakin' Buffet's Corp name now adorns "Joe Robbie Field". Remeber when you used to watch "The Ornge Bowl" and "The Sugar Bowl" etc. Now, it Taco Freakin' Bell Bowl, Doritos, and WTF else?
We are fuck-ed, mis amigos...oops...
"A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life."....Muhammad Ali
?
The first thing President Obama should have done the first week in office was to launch investigation into the actions of bush Cassidy, Sundance paulson and that thug cheney. The repugs would have thrown a fit but it would have forced them to take 4 steps backwards and would have sent a clear message saying was not going to put up with your bull shit. Not to mention it would have probably united the base across the board but until the Dems grow a back bone, we are screwed.
As far as this ruling goes, yes it sucks. With all the crap going on in this country today this was the last thing we needed. On the positive side at least now we will get to see these “honorable” men being bought and sold.
Thanks SCOTUS!
While right-wing paranoids were railing against the supposed Government "takeover" of the Health, Auto and Bank Industries, etc., multi-national (read "Foreign") for-profit corporations have been allowed by the Supreme Court to "take over" the government by buying, selling, controlling or punishing every politician they want with a tidal wave of money and lies.
Government of the Corporations, by the Corporations, and for the Corporations. They want to vilify the "Government" as some dark force, when what they fear is any kind of legislation that would protect the American people; any attempt to regulate, control or punish their greed, abuses and the total lack of accountability for their "Profits Before People" behavior.
Government is not perfect, but it's the only thing that has acted on behalf of public safety and kept Corporations from being more dangerous and out of control than they already are. How is trying to protect us from harm "taking over"? (Don't tell me that government restrictions on greed and unethical behavior are somehow worse than letting Americans die because they can't get or afford insurance, or global tragedies like Bhopal.)
There's a lot to be upset about, but we need to be smarter and blame the right people. We hear paranoid lies about government-run health care "bureaucrats" coming between you and your doctor, when what they are fearful of is already being done by insurance company "bureaucrats", who take your money and then deny you care. The less they spend on you, the more profit they make. If anyone is going to "kill grandma" because she's "too expensive" it would be a private insurance company. The government is made up of politicians who want your vote. "Killing grandma" is not a good re-election strategy, people!!
I also find it astounding that the same people who complain about "libruls" spending too much on free social programs to help undeserving poor people are the ones who are trying to convince you that if you are "too old" you will face a Democratic "Death Panel" because you cost the government too much money??!! The lies aren't even consistent!
Anyway, isn't it the conservative view that unless you're a fetus, you're on your own? "If you're sick, it must be your own fault? Why should I have to pay 1/300,000,000th of your medical bills? If I can't make money off of you, you should drop dead to make more room for me!"
Be aware of those who try to create fear. They benefit from deep, irrational fears. Fear keeps people from thinking clearly and allows the facts to become irrelevant.
A new professional basketball league boasting rosters made up exclusively of white Americans has its eyes set on Augusta, but the team isn't receiving a warm welcome.
The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening...
"Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league," the statement said....
Clint Bryant, athletic director at Augusta State University, laughed when he heard the news.
"It's so absurd, it's funny, but it gives you an idea of the sickness of our society" he said. "It shows you what lengths people will go to just to be mean-spirited. I think at any basketball level, no matter if it's all black, all white, all Hispanic, all Asian or anyone else, the players should just be a basketball team."

Horrific isn't it? Although I must say, in my youth I could dunk and I'm only 6'1".
