SCOTUS hates gays in the military. If the media is so "liberal", why does Obama have to play defense for stopping Bush's disaster in its tracks, just because his plan didn't automatically produce a lot of jobs? How many jobs did Bush actually produce in his term?
It's Obama's team arguing FOR DADT, after all that big campaign talk about standing behind Gays and Lesbians wanting to serve...
:(
on a campaign promise...
How many extremely qualified and competent soldiers have been discharged because of this BS?
How many are kept in due to the stoploss program that want to leave?
It's wrong.
Obama, you are letting the nation down by continuing the antiquated DADT policy.
On a different note...anyone catch Colbert last night?
created a lot of jobs building bombs and bullets.
And widows, and orphans...god...I really do hate that man.
.....I'm really having trouble believing in........:(
Superb article.
Alfred W. McCoy: Back to the Future in Torture Policy
The US "does not torture."
We know we don't torture because we wrote our special exemption from International Law.
It's really not all that far of an extension of Dirty Harry. The "tough " guy always gets it done. If it weren't for those darn "technicalities."
Of course, it helps if the "tough" guy isn't
torturinginterrogating an innocent guy like Boumadine.you can go to the prime example that the
religious reich likes to torture.....
they nailed their god to the cross.
and then continue to commit heinous acts
towards anyone that won't follow their narrow views!
what a bunch of bastards.
the "felons and other criminals" who are being recruited for the military are really building up that "cohesion" in the ranks....
...NOT.!!!!!!!!!
What is going on in New York:
Upstate NY school board president ‘regularly’ sends offensive e-mails, including one calling Obama a ‘negro.’
Yesterday, the Buffalo News reported that Lewiston-Porter school board President Robert J. Weller is being criticized for “regularly” forwarding offensive e-mails to friends and former members of the board. One e-mail contained a list of a dozen male chauvinist “jokes,” such as an explanation that women have smaller feet to allow them “to stand closer to the kitchen sink.” Other e-mails included:
– A photo of Barack Obama, depicted making a campaign promise to deliver jobs to “everyone who can work.” In the background of the doctored image is a group of African-Americans running away.
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/06/08/schoolboard...
Not that I have much room to judge. One school board member from a nearby town wants all of the existing gay marriages in California to be nullified. He's said as much on our local news....
School Boards are ALL elected locally.
So ANYONE can run for Local School Board.
On the down side that means some terrible people are on our School Boards and probably do more to harm education in America than any other single force.
But on the up side this means that the Local School Board is a great place for political change to happen in America. Progressives, Democratic Socialists, Greens, even Pirates (Swedish Youth Party) ALL have a chance to both get a foot in the political door AND bring sanity to our Public Schools.
The Right Wing THUGS took over the Republican Party from the inside.
Local elected offices - School Board; City, County or Town Council - are the perfect starting place for doing the same to the Democratic Party.
"Infiltrate!" - Thom Hartmann
volunteering for the campaign of a good candidate for the school boards next election. I was crushed this last time around when a retired teacher and a now former school board member who'd been my aunt's teacher and my best friend's teacher failed to win re-election. He rocks.
Also, there is a guy on our elementary school board who is my age (late 20's) that shows you don't have to wait a very long time to get elected to the board....
These are just replies to Bonnie and PoP from last night's comment of mine in Open Thread about the local situation with animals (and something on the side to PoP as well).
Bonnie:
Thanks for the advice, I'll try and find an animal rescue center in the area who can help calico kitty. In the meantime I just won't discourage her from partaking of Jeremy's food and water. At least he has a stable source of food and water; she doesn't, so yeah...
PoP:
Grrrr. How rotten that someone would abandon those poor kittens. But the kitties are lucky in having camped out in yard and now they've got a foster home! :)
Btw, I saw that Martini is coming along with you on vacation and he's fixing to go on a shopping spree for it. ;) I signed up my furbrood for the PetSmart online discounts program since it's hard to get to a pet store here. Evidently the program now entitles them to cards from PetSmart on their birthdays. Crossing my fingers they don't get any big ideas from that. With my luck they will want the specially made dog/cat birthday cakes that are sold on Etsy! :P
That reminds me of something kinda funny. When we signed up at PetSmart we only had a cat at that time. When it asked for Fred the Cat's birthday, I had no idea when it was since we took him in as a stray, so I put my own birthday as his. I didn't know anything about the discount birthday card or anything PetSmart had in mind. Well, this past April on my birthday we got a card wishing Fred a happy birthday. For a couple of minutes I couldn't figure out what the hell that was all about.
Not to worry about Martini and his online shopping spree. I hid my credit card from him.
..so the right thing would be to let her sit on the Supreme Court.
Awful joke, sorry all

Limbaugh: Would a white male judge have fractured his ankle in the same circumstances Sotomayor did?
why would that be the question, you dumb fucking son of a bitch!
Hah! For Rush, that's a compliment.
ya think? you are probably right.
The thrills of an NK labor camp. Panetta asks a judge not to stop the CIA from getting caught on torture.
our torture techniques would inform the enemies about everything they already know about our torture techniques.
The first best way of advertising was word of mouth. Now there is the internet which makes word of mouth even easier to spread. Leon, you have heard of the expression about closing the barn door after the horses have already gotten out, haven't you.
... on the Lieberman-Graham detainee photo suppression amendment being dropped.
What would Pat Buchanan have to say to get himself fired from MSNBC?
They think that people can choose not to buy insurance, and that they can afford to have their benefits taxed.
they just don't want to give up the large donations they get from the health care industry.

President Palin laments about the deficit and about China holding out debt.....now that Obama is president. When Bush handed the Chinese our economy President Palin was silent. When Bush took Clinton's record budget surpluses and turned them into record deficit President Palin was silent.
Sean admits sneaking into the even to stalk Sara. Guess Greta was busy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFV1vQwMlpU
It was really annoying watching Sean get his petty digs at Hillary and the Obama's have a date night. What a smarmy doughy pantload. Sean still hasn't had his date night with the waterboard and if Sean likes low tax Alaska so much why doesn't he leave librul New York and move there? Guess a conservative elite like Hannity wouldn't feel as comfortable around so few millionaires and so many rubes.
Let's ask Palin how she and McCain would have handled the economic crisis. Somebody please ask her that question.
"Well, ya know....the economy like up here in Alaska....is something that we have to trust to honest hard working Americans....no government bureaucracy....also....we here in Alaska know the economy isn't about socialism and expecting...also....the government to take care of our problems....heck like up here in Alaska......besides, Obama pals around with terrorists....you betcha. *wink wink*"
Thank you governor Palin for that indepth explanation. So each American should start their own pac like SarahPac.com and that way people could donate to us so we could afford things like trips to NYC to see a baseball game and such? By the way governor, killed any innocent animals lately?

Climate bill would be a net gain for federal budget, says CBO - http://www.grist.org/article/2009-06-08-cbo-c...
The report finds that the bill, sponsored by Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.), would raise roughly $845.6 billion in federal revenue from 2010 to 2019, while it would call for about $821 billion in direct federal spending over that period. Bottom line: a $24.4 billion net gain for the Treasury.
So tell all the Deniers/Extinctionists/'Skeptics' to put that in their pipe when they yell about 'the costs'....
More than four-fifths of people support the introduction of a nature reserve in our seas to protect stocks of fish, according to a survey published today on World Oceans Day. The poll came ahead of the launch of a film, The End Of The Line, which reveals the impacts of overfishing on the world's oceans.

Obama's Stimulus Promise: More Than 600,000 Jobs - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/08/obam...
President Barack Obama promised Monday to deliver more than 600,000 jobs through his $787 billion stimulus plan this summer, with federal agencies pumping billions into public works projects, schools and summer youth programs. Obama is ramping up his stimulus program this week even as his advisers are ramping down expectations about when the spending plan will affect a continuing rise in the nation's unemployment.

Ostroy Report: I Love Obama - http://ostroyreport.blogspot.com/2009/06/i-lo...
Full disclosure, I am a recent convert. I am not an Obamaton, nor am I an original member of the Obama Nation, whose members the right wing attack machine vilify as a bunch of kool-aid drunken hero-worshippers who blindly follow their "Messiah." I was a Hillary Clinton supporter. Readers of this blog know that I actually had several major reservations about the relatively young unknown politician who sought the most powerful job in the world.
To be sure, in the first five months of his nascent presidency, Obama has shown incredible tenacity, resolve, vision and statesmanship. He's truly the right guy for these troubled times, and I suspect the history books will judge him accordingly many years from now. Let's just say he's won me over.
