AlterNet :

NY Congressman Gary Ackerman, confronting Condoleezza Rice on the military's firing of 300+ Arabic and Farsi translators, asked whether the State Dept. wouldn't be interested in them.

Or does the State Dept have a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy like the military?

Rice had repeatedly talked up the importance of hiring translators.

According to The Frontlines, speaking to the intersection of the military's policy and the State Dept's needs: "Ackerman wondered, 'Can we marry up those two - or maybe that's the wrong word - can we have some kind of union of those two issues?'"

A short time later, as he says in the clip posted here, Ackerman says: "For some reason, the military seems more afraid of gay people than they are against terrorists, but they're very brave with the terrorists. ... If the terrorists ever got a hold of this information, they'd get a platoon of lesbians to chase us out of Baghdad."
