Lieberman To Attend Republican Convention?

There's been some speculation, fueled by the candidate himself, that John McCain would consider Joe Lieberman as his running mate on the Republican ticket. Yesterday, Lieberman dismissed the talk -- but raised eyebrows anyway by hinting at which convention he may attend.

“No, I’d tell him, ‘Thanks, John, I’ve been there, I’ve done that. You can find much better,’ ” Lieberman told the Associated Press. “I’m not seeking anything else.” The Connecticut independent, who had switched from the Democratic Party after losing the Democratic presidential primary in 2006, had fueled speculation by endorsing McCain in December and campaigning with him in New Hampshire, Michigan, South Carolina and Florida.

Lieberman also told the AP that his endorsement of McCain isn’t a step toward switching to the Republican Party. “I don’t have any intention of leaving the Democratic Party,” he said. “I want to be a senator.”

Still, he left open the door to attending the Republican convention if McCain wins the nomination. “I’d probably be more welcome there,” he said. (emphasis added)

Don't be surprised to see Lieberman as 2008's Zell Miller.
