Senate President Stephen Sweeney now vows to go nuclear and shut down the state government this summer if Gov. Chris Christie breaks his core promise on pension reform.

And so the crisis that budget experts have predicted for years is finally upon us.

The question is whether New Jersey will live up to the commitment made in 2011, when Christie signed a reform that remains his landmark achievement, assuming it survives.
